Abstract The field of nonlinear optics is briefly introduced, followed by a review of quantum size effects in small semiconductor particles, with special reference to the linear and nonlinear optical properties. Experimental methods, especially the “laser induced grating” technique are described. Semiconductor (CdS x Se1?x ) doped glasses are examined, both the commercially available niters and a specially made experimental CdSe doped glass. Both linear and nonlinear optical properties are discussed. Colloidal and polymers systems are also briefly discussed. 相似文献

从实验和理论两个方面,探讨了金属Ag不同掺杂浓度对Ag:Bi2O3复合膜线性和非线性光学性质的影响.用吸收光谱研究了Ag浓度与Ag:Bi2O3复合膜表面等离子体共振带之间的关系;用皮秒Z-扫描技术研究了共振和非共振情况下(激发光波长分别为532 nm和1064 nm),金属Ag浓度与复合膜三阶非线性极化率的关系.基于表面等离子体共振理论和局域场增强理论对复合膜进行了分析,得到了不同Ag浓度时Ag:Bi2O3复合膜的三阶非线性效应,研究了激发波长和金属浓度对复合膜线性和非线性光学性质的影响.结果表明,等离子体共振增强和合适的金属掺杂浓度使得三阶极化率增强二个量级,在Ag浓度为35%左右和接近等离子体共振频率(相应吸收带位于560 nm-622 nm)的532 nm激发时,χ(3)具有最大值2.4×10-9esu. 相似文献

Polarization-dependent linear absorption, second-harmonic generation (SHG) and 3rd-order nonlinearities of wellaligned ZnO nanorod arrays have been investigated with ps pulses. The depressed spectral width and the enhanced intensity of reflective SHG along the long axis of ZnO nanorods were observed by using p-polarized pulses, which is explained by the optical confinements. The nonlinear absorption coefficient measured with s-polarization reached the maximum 4.0×10^4cm/GW at the wavelength -750nm, which revealed a large two-photon resonance absorption attributed to the quantum confined exciton when the polarization is vertical to the long axis of ZnO nanorod. 相似文献

主要从实验和理论两个方面,探讨了强受限尺寸区域内不同尺寸对CdSe量子点线性和非线性光学性质的影响.用吸收光谱研究了量子点尺寸与吸收峰之间的关系,用皮秒Z扫描技术研究了共振和非共振情况下(激发光波长分别为532和1064nm),尺寸与三阶非线性极化率之间的关系.基于电子能量状态理论和局域场增强理论对量子点进行分析,得到了CdSe不同尺寸的三阶非线性效应,研究了尺寸对量子点非线性光学性质的影响.结果表明,由激发态粒子数布局改变和纳米颗粒增大引起的非线性共振增强效应相当,二者共同作用使得三阶极化率增强20倍左右,且用532nm的共振频率激发4.3nm CdSe量子点时,χ(3)具有最大值2.0×10-11esu.

Single-wall carbon nanotube deposition on the cladding of optical fibers has been carried out to fabricate an all-fiber nonlinear device. Two different nanotube deposition techniques were studied. The first consisted of repeatedly immersing the optical fiber into a nanotube supension, increasing the thickness of the coating in each step. The second deposition involved wrapping a thin film of nanotubes around the optical fiber. For both cases, interaction of transmitted light through the fiber core with the external coating was assisted by the cladding mode resonances of a tilted fiber Bragg grating. Ultrafast nonlinear effects of the nanotube-coated fiber were measured by means of a pump-probe pulses experiment. 相似文献

Optically transparent nonlinear optical bulk single crystal of N-(3-nitrophenyl) acetamide (3NAA) of dimension 7 mm × 6 mm × 5 mm has been grown from its aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation technique. The grown crystal was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction to confirm the crystal structure. Investigation has been carried out to assign the vibrational frequencies of the grown crystals by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and FT-NMR technique. Thermal behaviour of the grown crystals was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The second harmonic generation efficiency of 3NAA was determined by Kurtz and Perry powder technique. The optical absorption study confirms the suitability of the crystal for device applications. The mechanical properties of the grown crystals have been studied using Vickers microhardness tester. Dielectric, microhardness and photoconductivity studies also carried out for the grown sample. 相似文献

Linear and nonlinear (NL) optical properties of composite materials containing high concentration of gold nanoparticles (NPs) were studied using the Maxwell–Garnett model and the degenerated electron gas model. High values of the linear refraction index of the composite, NL shift of the plasmon resonance peak and reversal sign of the real and imaginary parts of the NL third-order susceptibility were observed. Figures of merit for photonic devices were calculated and fulfilled depending of the filling factor and NPs size. 相似文献

The linear and nonlinear optical properties of a CdO film post-annealed in a hydrogen atmosphere for 30 min (CdO:H) were studied. The prepared CdO and CdO:H films were characterized by X-ray diffraction and UV-VIS-NIR absorption spectroscopy. Experimental data indicated that annealing in an H2 atmosphere slightly compresses the CdO unit cell and widens the energy gap of CdO by about 3% relative to a nonhydrogenated film. This effect can be explained by the Burstein-Moss energy effect. The nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index coefficients were determined and found to be higher than the values previously determined for nonhydrogenated CdO. 相似文献

In this paper, we have studied optical properties of spherical quantum dots by using Rosen-Morse potential. In this regard, we have first solved the Schrodinger equation and obtained energy levels and wave functions by applying Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method. Then, by using density matrix method, we have applied analytical expressions for the linear and third-order nonlinear absorption coefficient and refractive index changes. The results show that the total refractive index changes and the absorption coefficients increase and shift towards higher by enhancing height potential. 相似文献

3+ ions excited by energy transfer from Nd3+ ions in LiTaO3:Nd, Yb crystals are presented. The emission band of Yb3+ ions is broad, due to the strong phonon-coupling and to the relative large Stark-splitting of the ground 2F7/2 multiplet. The emission cross-section was evaluated by the reciprocity method, and a value of 0.53×10-20 cm2 was obtained. The gain coefficients derived for the inversion parameters in the range 0.05 to 0.5 indicate positive gain
in the 985–1070 nm range.

Sb-doped Ge Se2 chalcogenide thin films are prepared by the magnetron co-sputtering method.The linear optical properties of as-deposited films are derived by analyzing transmission spectra.The refractive index rises and the optical band gap decreases from 2.08 e V to 1.41 e V with increasing the Sb content.X-ray photoelectron spectra further confirm the formation of a covalent Sb–Se bond.The third-order nonlinear optical properties of thin films are investigated under femtosecond laser excitation at 800 nm.The results show that the third-order nonlinear optical properties are enhanced with increasing the concentration of Sb.The nonlinear refraction indices of these thin films are measured to be on the order of 10-18m2/W with a positive sign and the nonlinear absorption coefficients are obtained to be on the order of 10-10m/W.These excellent properties indicate that Sb-doped Ge–Se films have a good prospect in the applications of nonlinear optical devices. 相似文献

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystals (KDP, KH2PO4) doped with the organic xylenol orange (XO) dye are grown, the XO concentration in the crystal matrix is about 10 ppm. The spectral and luminescent properties of nominally pure, dye-doped and dye-doped/annealed at 150 °C crystals (KDP, KDP:XO and KDP:XOan) were measured. The annealing temperature effect on the degree of dye protonation in the crystal matrix is established. Analysis of the IR-absorption spectra reveals a strong interaction between the incorporated dye molecules and the hydrogen subsystem of the matrix. The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of KDP, KDP:XO and KDP:XOan crystals are studied within the self-action effect of picosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The mechanism of photoinduced bleaching and the effects of laser beam self-focusing (in KDP) and self-defocusing (in KDP:XO and KDP:XOan) are supposed to be due to resonance excitation of the subsystems of intrinsic defects and dye molecules, correspondingly. For KDP:XOan it is shown that thermal annealing of intrinsic crystal defects leads to domination of more effective NLO response of the subsystem of dye molecules that is correlated with photoluminescence data. 相似文献

2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (abbreviated as HEMA) and acrylonitrile have been used as the monomers to form a trans-4-[p-(N-hydroxyethyl-N-methylamino)styryl]-N-methylpyridinium p-toluene sulfonate (abbreviated as HMASPS) doped linear copolymer. The spectra of one and two-photon excited fluorescence and two-photon pumped superradiance and two-photon pumped lasing of the polymer all shifted to short wavelengths compared with the solution sample of the dye. The copolymer shows much longer one- and two-photon excited fluorescence lifetimes of nanoseconds. When pumped by the picosecond Nd:YAG laser, the superradiance and lasing can be simultaneously obtained. The maximum two-photon pumped lasing conversion efficiency is 3.3%. The place of the maximum upconversion efficiency of the copolymer does not coincide with that of the maximum nonlinear absorption. 相似文献

We prepared Ag(x)(As0.4Se0.6)(100-x) chalcogenide glasses by a melt-quenching method and measured their linear and nonlinear optical properties to evaluate their potential applications to all-optical ultrafast switching devices. Their nonlinear refraction and absorption were measured by the Z-scan method at 1.05 microm. The addition of Ag to As2Se3 glass led to an increase in the nonlinear refractive index without introducing an increase in the nonlinear absorption coefficient. The glass with a Ag content of x = 20 at. % revealed high nonlinearity ranging from 2000 to 27,000 times that of fused silica, depending on the incident optical intensity. 相似文献

Optical damage effects in electro-optic crystals such as LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 result from light-induced refractive index changes which bring about decollimation and scattering of light beams. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of excitons in semiconductor quantum wells and microcavities
Linear and nonlinear light propagation in single and multiple quantum wells and in semiconductor microresonators are studied on the basis of Maxwell’s equations. The treatment includes radiative broadening of quantum-confined excitons, radiative coupling between quantum wells as well as coupling of quantum wells to the cavity field of a microresonator for steady state or ultrashort pulse excitation. The dynamical evolution of the coherent quantum-well polarization under the influence of many-body effects is studied within a microscopic model. The theory is used to investigate the influence of exciton saturation and dephasing on pulse propagation and excitonic normal-mode coupling. 相似文献

ZnO nanoparticles embedded in the PMMA matrix were prepared by wet chemical synthesis. The optical band gap of the ZnO nanoparticles decreases with increase in NaOH concentration. The photoluminescence spectra of the ZnO colloids show strong UV, green and blue emissions. The optical absorptive nonlinearity of the ZnO:PMMA composites was analyzed using an open aperture Z-scan technique which shows optical limiting type nonlinearity due to the two photon absorption in ZnO. The efficiency of limiting is found to increase with decrease in the band gap. ZnO:PMMA shows a negative value for nonlinear refractive index n2 and the magnitude of n2 increases with decrease of band gap. Stability as well as the mechanical properties of the nanoparticles embedded in the PMMA matrix makes it more suitable for device fabrication as compared to the ZnO nanoparticles dispersed in solution. 相似文献
