Two directions in spiroheterocyclization of 1H-pyrrole-2,3-diones upon the action of 3-arylamino-1H-inden-1-ones

4-Ethoxycarbonyl-5-phenyl-substituted 1H-pyrrole-2,3-diones react with 3-arylamino-1H-inden-1-ones in the ratios 1: 1 and 1: 2 to form substituted spiro{indeno[1,2-b]quinoline-10,3??-pyrroles} and substituted spiro{diindeno[1,2-b:2??,1??-e]pyridine-11,3??-pyrroles}, respectively.

Direct heterocyclization of tetrahydroisoquinolin-1-ylideneacetic acids by the action of 5-arylfuran-2,3-diones

Aroylketenes generated in situ by thermolysis of 6-aryl-2,2-dimethyl-4H-1,3-dioxin-4-ones reacted with 3,3-dialkyl-1-methyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolines to give (1Z,3Z)-4-aryl-4-hydroxy-1-[3,3-dialkyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-ylidene]but-3-en-4-ones. The crystalline and molecular structure of (1Z,3Z)-4-hydroxy-1-[6,7-dimethoxy-3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-ylidene]-4-phenylbut-3-en-2-one was studied by X-ray diffraction.     

Five-membered 2,3-dioxo heterocycles: LIV. Double spiro heterocyclization of methyl 1-aryl-3-benzoyl-4,5-dioxo-4,5-dihydro-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyrrole-2-carboxylates with 3-arylamino-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-ones

Methyl 1-aryl-3-benzoyl-4,5-dioxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylates reacted with 3-arylamino-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-ones in boiling benzene to give the corresponding 1,1′-diaryl-3′-benzoyl-4′-hydroxy-6,6-dimethyl-1,1′,2,4,5,5′,6,7-octahydrospiro[indole-3,2′-pyrrole]-2,4,5′-triones and 1′-aryl-4-arylamino-3-benzoyl-6′,6′-dimethyl-1′,2′,4′,5′,6′,7′-hexahydro-5H-spiro[furan-2,3′-indole]-2′,4′,5-triones whose structure was proved by X-ray analysis.
