We study the reflection of one-dimensional spatial solitons at the non-linear interface between a Kerr-type medium and a linear medium. Our study places emphasis on determining the physical conditions under which the beam reflected by the non-linear interface is still a spatial soliton. We find that for small angles of incidence an elastic internal reflection takes place, in the sense that the reflected soliton is essentially the same as the incident one. For incidence angles near a critical angle, the reflected soliton becomes less intense and its reflection angle is smaller than the angle of incidence. Finally, for spatial solitons with input angles well above the critical angle, the main part of the energy is transmitted to the linear medium, and no soliton is internally reflected.  相似文献

The concept of using comparison between magneto-optic measurements taken in the linear and second-harmonic reflected fields to address problems attending the development of ultra-high-density recording media as the limits of thermal stability are approached is presented. It is shown how magneto-optical measurements made routinely in the linear reflected field to access many of the bulk characteristics of such media may, by operating in the second-harmonic field, be fruitfully extended. To illustrate the techniques being explored, reference is made to initial measurements on a longitudinal recording medium under continuing development at Coventry. This medium, already shown to support recording at linear densities in excess of 100 kfci, is based on cobalt particles around 10 nm in diameter. Morphology and magnetic properties of Co/Si(1 1 1) interfaces have been investigated using scanning tunneling microscope and surface magneto-optic Kerr effect techniques. As deposited at room temperature for Co/Si(1 1 1), defects have been observed with shapes of dark patches and bright islands on the surface with different Co coverage. The defect formation causes a rough interface. For subsequently deposited Co layers, the interfacial state between Co and the Si substrate results in the appearance of both the longitudinal and polar Kerr loops. After annealing treatments, interdiffusion of Co atoms and Si(1 1 1) substrate occurs as revealed by Auger electron spectroscopy. Scanning tunneling microscope images show the formation of Si clusters with average diameter of 10 nm at high temperatures. The disappearance of ferromagnetism of the films occurs due to the structural and compositional changes.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the surface magnetic properties of as-quenched (AQ) CoFeCrBSi ribbons prepared by planar flow casting method with using magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE). Measured hysteresis loops in longitudinal and transversal configurations enable us to obtain the information of ribbons surface magnetic properties. Moreover, we suggest new magneto-optic method, which is based on measurements of magneto-optical effects depending on DC current flowing through the ribbon. Experimental data of AQ ribbons are then compared with the model, which describes the influence of incidence angle on magneto-optical angles.  相似文献

光子自旋霍尔效应类似于电子系统中的电子自旋霍尔效应, 是在折射率梯度和光子分别扮演的外场和自旋电子的角色下, 由自旋-轨道相互作用而产生的光子自旋分裂现象. 光子自旋霍尔效应为操控光子提供了新的途径, 同时也提供了一种精确测量相关物理效应的方法. 本文研究了磁光克尔效应中光子自旋分裂现象, 建立了磁光克尔旋转与光子自旋霍尔效应之间的定量关系, 并通过弱测量系统观测了磁场作用下铁膜表面的光子自旋分裂位移, 得到相应的磁光旋转角, 验证了我们所推导的理论预测. 本文的研究成果为精确测量磁光克尔系数和磁光克尔旋转角提供了一种新方法.  相似文献

The spatio-temporal spectrum of optical radiation reflected from a nonlinear dielectric medium with nonresonant dispersion is obtained as a function of the parameters of the spatio-temporal spectrum of a paraxial light beam incident on the boundary of the medium at small angles. Nonlinear reflection of various types of femtosecond spectral supercontinua from the interface between air and fused silica is simulated. It is shown that the time duration and the transverse dimensions of a beam of multiple-frequency radiation generated during the reflection of a superposition of high-intensity fields of two few-cycle pulses with different central wavelengths may be smaller than those of incident ultrashort pulses.  相似文献

The polarization state of a second-harmonic wave after reflection from a semi-infinite, optically isotropic magnetic medium is considered for the three characteristic uniformmagnetization directions corresponding to the linear magneto-optical Kerr effects. Expressions for the complex amplitudes of the wave field which specify the nonlinear Kerr effects, viz., the polar, meridional, and equatorial effects, are obtained in a first approximation with respect to the magnetization. The dependences of these effects on the angle of incidence of the inducing wave obtained as a result of a numerical experiment are presented. We compute the reflected and refracted electromagnetic fields for an ideal semi-infinite (half-space) plasma, as well as the reflection coefficient, by using a general procedure based on equations of motion and electromagnetic potentials. The approach consists of representing the charge disturbances by a displacement field in the positions of the moving particles (electrons). The propagation of an electromagnetic wave in plasma is treated by means of the retarded electromagnetic potentials, and the resulting integral equations are solved. Generalized Fresnel’s relations are thereby obtained for any incidence angle and polarization and the angles of total polarization and total reflection are derived. Bulk and surface plasmon-polariton modes are identified. As it is well known, the field inside the plasma is either damped (evanescent) or propagating (transparency regime), and the reflection coefficient exhibits an abrupt enhancement on passing from the propagating regime to the damped one (total reflection).  相似文献

The transformation of intensity fluctuations accompanying the nonlinear resonance reflection of light from a glass-resonant gas interface is discussed. The illumination of the interface at angles close to the critical angle for total internal reflection is found to have certain advantages over orthogonal incidence. At the maximum of the strongest resonance, the reflected light intensity amounts to more than 50% of the incident light. In these conditions, a squeezing of the amplitude (photon) fluctuations is observed in the radiation generated by a semiconductor laser-nonlinear selective reflector system. A simple semiclassical theory adequately describes some important characteristics of this system: the shape of the reflection resonances, the strength of the saturation fields, and so on.  相似文献

Time-resolved pump–probe second-harmonic (SH) response following optical excitation has been studied in nickel and permalloy films. Experimental data indicate that the odd SH field represents the transient magnetization, i.e. the behavior of the spin subsystem, while the electron subsystem generates the even SH field. Delays between odd and even SH fields of about 200 fs and 650 fs were detected for nickel and permalloy films, respectively. We found that the dynamics of the odd SH field is influenced by the polarization of the pump pulse. This dependence on excitation conditions suggests a difference in surface and bulk magnetization dynamics. We present results on the magneto-optic properties of ferromagnetic films deposited on GaAs and SiO2 substrates. Using left- and right-circularly polarized light, we have measured the polarization-dependent photoresponse and reflectivity of Co/GaAs, Fe/GaAs and NiFe/GaAs Schottky diodes and the polarization-dependent reflection and transmission of NiFe/SiO2 and Co/SiO2 structures as a function of ferromagnetic film thickness, reported here in the range of 7.5-15 nm. Films were prepared by sputtering and molecular-beam epitaxy. Measurements were made in the presence of magnetic fields ranging from −1.2 to +1.2 T both parallel and perpendicular to the sample surface. We find maximum polarization-dependent transmission and photoresponse effects (with respect to left- versus right-circularly polarized light) of 2-4% in magnitude. Taken together the work suggests that magneto-optic effects intrinsic to the films, rather than spin injection across the ferromagnetic/semiconductor interface, are responsible for the observed phenomenology. The work has direct implications for the interpretation of results in ferromagnetic/semiconductor spintronic systems.  相似文献

For L10-FePt films with strong perpendicular anisotropy covered by arrays of hexagonal close-packed polystyrene spheres(PSSs),fine structures are observed in magneto-optical Kerr rotation spectra in the visible spectral range.The reflection minima are found to be located at the same wavelengths as the Kerr rotation peaks.The Kerr rotation enhancement is attributed to the excitation of both the surface plasmon polariton in the dielectric PSS/metal interface and the guide waves(guide mode)in the PSS array.The two-dimensional PSSs/SiO2/FePt system exhibiting a tunable magneto-optical Kerr effect and a high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy will be helpful for designing and fabricating magneto-optics devices.  相似文献

Magnetization reversal in a periodic magnetic field is studied on an ultrathin, ultrasoft ferromagnetic Pt/Co(0.5 nm)/Pt trilayer exhibiting weak random domain wall (DW) pinning. The DW motion is imaged by polar magneto-optic Kerr effect microscopy and monitored by superconducting quantum interference device susceptometry. In close agreement with model predictions, the complex linear ac susceptibility corroborates the dynamic DW modes segmental relaxation, creep, slide, and switching.  相似文献

We have demonstrated an optimization approach in order to obtain desired magnetophotonic crystals (MPCs) composed of a lossy magnetic layer (TbFeCo) placed within a multilayer structure. The approach is an amalgamation between a 4×4 transfer matrix method and a genetic algorithm. Our objective is to enhance the magneto-optic Kerr effect of TbFeCo at short visible wavelength of 405 nm. Through the optimization approach, MPC structures are found meeting definite criteria on the amount of reflectivity and Kerr rotation. The resulting structures are fitted more than 99.9% to optimization criteria. Computation of the internal electric field distribution shows energy localization in the vicinity of the magnetic layer, which is responsible for increased light-matter interaction and consequent enhanced magneto-optic Kerr effect. Versatility of our approach is also exhibited by examining and optimizing several MPC structures.  相似文献

The reversal process of the Fe interface layer magnetization in Fe/AlGaAs heterostructures is measured directly using magnetization-induced second-harmonic generation, and is compared with the reversal of the bulk magnetization as obtained from magneto-optic Kerr effect. The switching characteristics are distinctly different due to interface-derived anisotropy--single step switching occurs at the interface layer, while two-jump switching occurs in the bulk Fe for the magnetic field orientations employed. The angle between the interface and bulk magnetization may be as large as 40-85 degrees. Such interface switching will dominate the behavior of nanoscale structures.  相似文献

[Co/Gd0.36Co0.64]4/Co multilayers with Co termination layer have been prepared by rf sputtering. They form macroscopic ferrimagnets with a compensation temperature (Tcomp) determined by the thickness ratio of the layers. In low fields the magnetization of Co and Gd–Co layers are along the axis of the applied field. Increasing field makes the moments of both the Co and Gd–Co layers deviate from the axis of the field giving rise to a transition into a twisted state. These magnetic transitions were studied by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), magneto-optic Kerr effect and magnetoresistance measurements at various temperatures. The nucleation and evolution of surface- and bulk-twisted magnetic states were also observed in these multilayers.  相似文献

Photoacoustic (PA) amplitude and phase spectra are studied on porous silicon (PS) samples. For the sample with a thinner PS layer and a rough interface observed by field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), PA amplitude decays rapidly at short wavelengths but stays at a higher level above 650 nm compared with a sample with a thicker PS layer and a smooth interface. In this latter long-wavelength region, phase delay for the former sample is smaller. A model calculation for the two-layer model taking account of scattering of light in the porous media and interface reflection of light gives at least a qualitative explanation of these differences. We present an experimental study of non-linear selective reflection (SR) at a quartz–Cs-vapor interface in a V-type three-level scheme. The non-linear selective reflection at the Cs D2 resonance line (6 S 1/2F=4→6 P 3/2) is monitored with and without pumping. The sub-Doppler reflection spectrum is observed and the effect of pumping on the signal of the selective reflection is investigated. The experimental result is in agreement with the theoretical calculation.
