An asymptotic property of gap series

Takahashi [15] gave a concrete upper bound estimate of the law of the iterated logarithm for ∑ f(n _k x). We extend this result and prove the best possibility of this bound. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

An upper bound estimate in the law of the iterated logarithm for Σf(n _k ω) where n_k+1∫n_k≧ 1 + ck ^-α (α≧0) is investigated. In the case α<1/2, an upper bound had been given by Takahashi [15], and the sharpness of the bound was proved in our previous paper [8]. In this paper it is proved that the upper bound is still valid in case α≧1/2 if some additional condition on {n _k} is assumed. As an application, the law of the iterated logarithm is proved when {n _k} is the arrangement in increasing order of the set B(τ)={₁ ⁱ ₁...q_τ ⁱ _τ|i₁,...,i_τ∈N ₀}, where τ≧ 2, N ₀=NU{0}, and q ₁,...,q _τ are integers greater than 1 and relatively prime to each others. Convergence of multiple fourier series for functions of bounded variation

For functions of bounded variation in the sense of Hardy, we consider the pointwise convergence of the partial sums of Fourier series over a given sequence of bounded sets in the space of harmonics. We obtain sufficient conditions for convergence; necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the case in which these sets are convex with respect to each coordinate direction. Concentration factors for functions with harmonic bounded mean variation

We discuss determination of jumps for functions with generalized bounded variation. The questions are motivated by A. Gelb and E. Tadmor [1], F. Móricz [5] and [6] and Q. L. Shi and X. L. Shi [7]. Corollary 1 improves the results proved in B. I. Golubov [2] and G. Kvernadze [3]. Supported by NSFC 10671062.     

A nonclassical LIL for geometrically weighted series in Banach space

Let {X, Xn ; n ≥ 0} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables, taking values in a separable Banach space (B,||·||) with topological dual B* . Considering the geometrically weighted series ξ(β) =∑∞n=0βnXn for 0 β 1, and a sequence of positive constants {h(n), n ≥ 1}, which is monotonically approaching infinity and not asymptotically equivalent to log log n, a limit result for(1-β2)1/2||ξ(β)||/(2h(1/(1-β2)))1/2 is achieved.     

On a generalization of the class of functions with bounded Mocanu variation

The object of this paper is to generalise the well-known class of functions analytic in the unit disc having bounded Mocanu variation. Certain properties of this more general class are investigated using convolution techniques.     

On a new mean and functions of bounded deviation

The main purpose of the present paper is to introduce a new type of mean of a function and to study some of its special properties. In the last section we make use of this mean to show that a function of bounded deviation is not necessarily a function of bounded variation.     

Uniformly continuous superposition operators in the space of bounded variation functions

Let I, J ? ? be intervals. The law of the iterated logarithm for discrepancies of {θ n x}

It is proved that two types of discrepancies of the sequence {θ ⁿ x} obey the law of the iterated logarithm with the same constant. The appearing constants are calculated explicitly for most of θ > 1. Dedicated to the memory of Professor Walter Philipp     

A self-normalized law of the iterated logarithm for the geometrically weighted random series

Let {X, X_n; n ≥ 0} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with EX=0, and assume that EX~2I(|X| ≤ x) is slowly varying as x →∞, i.e., X is in the domain of attraction of the normal law. In this paper, a self-normalized law of the iterated logarithm for the geometrically weighted random series Σ~∞_(n=0)β~nX_n(0 β 1) is obtained, under some minimal conditions.     

Functions of bounded variation, the derivative of the one dimensional maximal function, and applications to inequalities

We prove that if is of bounded variation, then the uncentered maximal function is absolutely continuous, and its derivative satisfies the sharp inequality . This allows us to obtain, under less regularity, versions of classical inequalities involving derivatives.

     

Functions of bounded variation and polarization

Meromorphic functions with bounded boundary rotation

In this article, we generalize the class of meromorphic functions with bounded boundary rotation and related classes. Characterizations and some properties of these classes of functions are given.

Laws of the iterated logarithm for iterated Wiener processes

The recent interest in iterated Wiener processes was motivated by apparently quite unrelated studies in probability theory and mathematical statistics. Laws of the iterated logarithm (LIL) were independently obtained by Burdzy⁽²⁾ and Révész⁽¹⁷⁾. In this work, we present a functional version of LIL for a standard iterated Wiener process, in the spirit of functional asymptotic results of an ²-valued Gaussian process given by Deheuvels and Mason⁽⁹⁾ in view of Bahadur-Kiefer-type theorems. Chung's liminf sup LIL is established as well, thus providing further insight into the asymptotic behavior of iterated Wiener processes.     

有理Fourier级数在变差条件下的收敛性研究

本文把Fourier级数的一些经典结论推广到有理Fourier级数的情况下. 首先给出了有理Fourier级数和共轭有理Fourier级数在有界变差条件下的收敛速度估计. 利用此结论, 得到了类似于Fourier级数的Dirichlet-Jordan定理和W. H. Young定理. 最后, 证明了这两个定理在调和有界变差条件下也成立.     

Laws of the iterated logarithm for high-dimensional wiener sausage

Let {β(s), s ≥ 0} be the standard Brownian motion in ℝ ^d with d ≥ 4 and let |W _r (t)| be the volume of the Wiener sausage associated with {β(s), s ≥ 0} observed until time t. From the central limit theorem of Wiener sausage, we know that when d ≥ 4 the limit distribution is normal. In this paper, we study the laws of the iterated logarithm for | W_r (t) | - \mathbbE| W_r (t) |\left| {W_r (t)} \right| - \mathbb{E}\left| {W_r (t)} \right| in this case.     

On pointwise convergence of Fourier series of radial functions in several variables

We prove the pointwise convergence of the Fourier series for radial functions in several variables, which in the case is the Dirichlet-Jordan theorem itself. In our proof the method for the case of the indicator function of the ball is very useful.

     

Some quantities related to monotonicity and bounded variation of functions

The aim of this paper is to introduce and study some quantities connected with monotonicity and bounded variation of real functions. These quantities will also be considered for bounded subsets of spaces of bounded or continuous functions on a compact interval, equipped with the standard supremum norm. Several properties of such quantities are established, and possible applications are briefly sketched. Moreover, some relation with the theory of measures of noncompactness is discussed as well.
