The motivation for this paper comes from the Halperin–Carlsson conjecture for (real) moment-angle complexes. We first give an algebraic combinatorics formula for the M?bius transform of an abstract simplicial complex K on [m]={1,…,m} in terms of the Betti numbers of the Stanley–Reisner face ring k(K) of K over a field k. We then employ a way of compressing K to provide the lower bound on the sum of those Betti numbers using our formula. Next we consider a class of generalized moment-angle complexes ZK(\mathbb D, \mathbb S)\mathcal{Z}_{K}^{(\underline{\mathbb{ D}}, \underline{\mathbb{ S}})}, including the moment-angle complex ZK\mathcal{Z}_{K} and the real moment-angle complex \mathbbRZK\mathbb{R}\mathcal {Z}_{K} as special examples. We show that H*(ZK(\mathbb D, \mathbb S);k)H^{*}(\mathcal{Z}_{K}^{(\underline{\mathbb{ D}}, \underline{\mathbb{ S}})};\mathbf{k}) has the same graded k-module structure as Tor  k[v](k(K),k). Finally we show that the Halperin–Carlsson conjecture holds for ZK\mathcal{Z}_{K} (resp. \mathbb RZK\mathbb{ R}\mathcal{Z}_{K}) under the restriction of the natural T m -action on ZK\mathcal{Z}_{K} (resp. (ℤ2) m -action on \mathbb RZK\mathbb{ R}\mathcal{Z}_{K}).  相似文献

We introduce spherical nerve complexes that are a far-reaching generalization of simplicial spheres, and consider the differential ring of simplicial complexes. We show that spherical nerve complexes form a subring of this ring, and define a homomorphism from the ring of polytopes to this subring that maps each polytope P to the nerve K P of the cover of the boundary ∂P by facets. We develop a theory of nerve complexes and apply it to the moment-angle spaces Z P of convex polytopes P. In the case of a polytope P with m facets, its moment-angle space Z P is defined by the canonical embedding in the cone ℝ m . It is well-known that the space Z P is homeomorphic to the polyhedral product (D 2, S 1)∂P* if the polytope P is simple. We show that the homotopy equivalence ZP @ (D2 ,S1 )KP \mathcal{Z}_P \simeq (D^2 ,S^1 )^{K_P } holds in the general case. On the basis of bigraded Betti numbers of simplicial complexes, we construct a new class of combinatorial invariants of convex polytopes. These invariants take values in the ring of polynomials in two variables and are multiplicative with respect to the direct product or join of polytopes. We describe the relation between these invariants and the well-known f-polynomials of polytopes. We also present examples of convex polytopes whose flag numbers (in particular, f-polynomials) coincide, while the new invariants are different.  相似文献

For a simplicial complex Δ on {1, 2,…, n} we define enriched homology and cohomology modules. They are graded modules over k[x 1,…, x n ] whose ranks are equal to the dimensions of the reduced homology and cohomology groups. We characterize Cohen-Macaulay, l-Cohen-Macaulay, Buchsbaum, and Gorenstein* complexes Δ, and also orientable homology manifolds in terms of the enriched modules. We introduce the notion of girth for simplicial complexes and make a conjecture relating the girth to invariants of the simplicial complex. We also put strong vanishing conditions on the enriched homology modules and describe the simplicial complexes we then get. They are block designs and include Steiner systems S(c, d, n) and cyclic polytopes of even dimension. This paper is to a large extent a complete rewriting of a previous preprint, “Hierarchies of simplicial complexes via the BGG-correspondence”. Also Propositions 1.7 and 3.1 have been generalized to cell complexes in [11].  相似文献

An I-link K is a union of two n-spheres smoothly embedded in Sn+2 and transversally intersecting each other along a smoothly embedded (n − 2)-sphere. The homology groups of the universal Abelian cover of Sn+2∖K regarded as modules over the group ring ℤ[ℤℤ]are studied. Let X be a connected based space and p be a two-regular prime number. If the fundamental group of X has order p, we compute the two-primary homotopy groups of the homotopy fiber of the trace map A(X) → TC(X) relating algebraic K-theory of spaces to topological cyclic homology. The proof uses a theorem of Dundas and an explicit calculation of the cyclotomic trace map K(ℤ[Cp])→ TC(ℤ[Cp]).  相似文献

The Hom complex of homomorphisms between two graphs was originally introduced to provide topological lower bounds on the chromatic number. In this paper we introduce new methods for understanding the topology of Hom complexes, mostly in the context of Γ-actions on graphs and posets (for some group Γ). We view the Hom(T, ⊙) and Hom(⊙, G) complexes as functors from graphs to posets, and introduce a functor ()1 from posets to graphs obtained by taking atoms as vertices. Our main structural results establish useful interpretations of the equivariant homotopy type of Hom complexes in terms of spaces of equivariant poset maps and Γ-twisted products of spaces. When P:= F(X) is the face poset of a simplicial complex X, this provides a useful way to control the topology of Hom complexes. These constructions generalize those of the second author from [17] as well as the calculation of the homotopy groups of Hom complexes from [8].  相似文献

In this note we characterize the affine semigroup rings K[S] over an arbitrary field K that satisfy condition R? of Serre. Our characterization is in terms of the face lattice of the positive cone pos(S) of S. We start by reviewing some basic facts about the faces of pos(S) and consequences for the monomial primes of K[S]. After proving our characterization we turn our attention to the Rees algebras of a special class of monomial ideals in a polynomial ring over a field. In this special case, some of the characterizing criteria are always satisfied. We give examples of non-normal affine semigroup rings that satisfy R2.  相似文献

Let A=K[x 1,…,x n ] be a polynomial ring over a field K and M a monomial ideal of A. The quotient ring R=A/M is said to be Macaulay-Lex if every Hilbert function of a homogeneous ideal of R is attained by a lex ideal. In this paper, we introduce some new Macaulay-Lex rings and study the Betti numbers of lex ideals of those rings. In particular, we prove a refinement of the Frankl–Füredi–Kalai Theorem which characterizes the face vectors of colored complexes. Additionally, we disprove a conjecture of Mermin and Peeva that lex-plus-M ideals have maximal Betti numbers when A/M is Macaulay-Lex.  相似文献

Harmonic analysis on ℤ(p ) and the corresponding representation of the Heisenberg-Weyl group HW[ℤ(p ),ℤ(p ),ℤ(p )], is studied. It is shown that the HW[ℤ(p ),ℤ(p ),ℤ(p )] with a homomorphism between them, form an inverse system which has as inverse limit the profinite representation of the Heisenberg-Weyl group \mathfrak HW[\mathbbZp,\mathbbZp,\mathbbZp]\mathfrak {HW}[{\mathbb{Z}}_{p},{\mathbb{Z}}_{p},{\mathbb{Z}}_{p}]. Harmonic analysis on ℤ p is also studied. The corresponding representation of the Heisenberg-Weyl group HW[(ℚ p /ℤ p ),ℤ p ,(ℚ p /ℤ p )] is a totally disconnected and locally compact topological group.  相似文献

Let HZd be a positive semigroup generated by AH, and let K[H] be the associated semigroup ring over a field K. We investigate heredity of the Cohen-Macaulay property from K[H] to both its A-Newton graded ring and to its face rings. We show by example that neither one inherits in general the Cohen-Macaulay property. On the positive side, we show that for every H there exist generating sets A for which the Newton graduation preserves Cohen-Macaulayness. This gives an elementary proof for an important vanishing result on A-hypergeometric Euler-Koszul homology. As a tool for our investigations we develop an algorithm to compute algorithmically the Newton filtration on a toric ring.  相似文献

The classical way to study a finite poset (X, ≤ ) using topology is by means of the simplicial complex Δ X of its nonempty chains. There is also an alternative approach, regarding X as a finite topological space. In this article we introduce new constructions for studying X topologically: inspired by a classical paper of Dowker (Ann Math 56:84–95, 1952), we define the simplicial complexes K X and L X associated to the relation ≤. In many cases these polyhedra have the same homotopy type as the order complex Δ X . We give a complete characterization of the simplicial complexes that are the K or L-complexes of some finite poset and prove that K X and L X are topologically equivalent to the smaller complexes K X , L X induced by the relation <. More precisely, we prove that K X (resp. L X ) simplicially collapses to K X (resp. L X ). The paper concludes with a result that relates the K-complexes of two posets X, Y with closed relations R ⊂ X × Y.  相似文献

We describe Noetherian semigroup algebras K[S] of submonoids S of polycyclic-by-finite groups over a field K. As an application, we show that these algebras are finitely presented and also that they are Jacobson rings. Next we show that every prime ideal P of K[S] is strongly related to a prime ideal of the group algebra of a subgroup of the quotient group of S via a generalised matrix ring structure on K[S]/P. Applications to the classical Krull dimension, prime spectrum, and irreducible K[S]-modules are given.  相似文献

In this paper, the relation between algebraic shifting and join which was conjectured by Eran Nevo will be proved. Let σ and τ be simplicial complexes and σ*τ be their join. Let J σ be the exterior face ideal of σ and Δ(σ) the exterior algebraic shifted complex of σ. Assume that σ*τ is a simplicial complex on [n]={1,2,...,n}. For any d-subset S⊂[n], let denote the number of d-subsets R∈σ which are equal to or smaller than S with respect to the reverse lexicographic order. We will prove that for all S⊂[n]. To prove this fact, we also prove that for all S⊂[n] and for all nonsingular matrices ϕ, where Δϕ(σ) is the simplicial complex defined by .  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of locally finite modules M, i.e., modules whose finitely generated submodules are finite (as sets). In particular, we study rings which have faithful locally finite modules, for example, the polynomial rings ℤ[x] and F[x], where F is a finite field. Our results generalize the properties of Abelian torsion groups and the ring of integers. __________ Translated from Sovremennaya Matematika i Ee Prilozheniya (Contemporary Mathematics and Its Applications), Vol. 14, Algebra, 2004.  相似文献

In Propositions 1.6 and 7.6 of his paper onp-group complexes of finite groups [5], Quillen establishes fundamental results comparing the homology and the fundamental group of the order complexes of posetsP, Q admitting a mapf :PQ of posets with good local behavior. We prove the analogue of Quillen’s results for mapsf :KL of simplicial complexesK andL in a more general setup. This work was partially supported by BSF 88-00164. Topological Hochschild homology is calculated for the rings /p[x]/(f(x)) (where p is prime and f(x) /p[x] any polynomial), [x]/(x n) and [x]/(x n–1). A spectral sequence argument is used for calculating the homology of the topological Hochschild homology spectrum, from which its stable homotopy structure can be read off since the spectrum is known for a priori reasons to be a restricted product of Eilenberg-MacLane spectra.  相似文献

Let K be a field, S = K[x 1, … x n ] be a polynomial ring in n variables over K and IS be an ideal. We give a procedure to compute a prime filtration of S/I. We proceed as in the classical case by constructing an ascending chain of ideals of S starting from I and ending at S. The procedure of this paper is developed and has been implemented in the computer algebra system Singular.  相似文献

The face ring of a simplicial complex modulo m generic linear forms is shown to have finite local cohomology if and only if the link of every face of dimension m or more is nonsingular, i.e., has the homology of a wedge of spheres of the expected dimension. This is derived from an enumerative result for local cohomology of face rings modulo generic linear forms, as compared with local cohomology of the face ring itself. The enumerative result is generalized to squarefree modules. A concept of Cohen–Macaulay in codimension c is defined and characterized for arbitrary finitely generated modules and coherent sheaves. For the face ring of an r-dimensional complex Δ, it is equivalent to nonsingularity of Δ in dimension rc; for a coherent sheaf on projective space, this condition is shown to be equivalent to the same condition on any single generic hyperplane section. The characterization of nonsingularity in dimension m via finite local cohomology thus generalizes from face rings to arbitrary graded modules.  相似文献

We show that the cohomology algebra of the complement of a coordinate subspace arrangement in the m-dimensional complex space is isomorphic to the cohomology algebra of the StanleyReisner face ring of a certain simplicial complex on m vertices. (The face ring is regarded as a module over the polynomial ring on m generators.) After that we calculate the latter cohomology algebra by means of the standard Koszul resolution of a polynomial ring. To prove these facts, we construct a homotopy equivalence (equivariant with respect to the torus action) between the complement of a coordinate subspace arrangement and the moment-angle complex defined by a simplicial complex. The moment-angle complex is a certain subset of the unit polydisk in the m-dimensional complex space invariant with respect to the action of the m-dimensional torus. This complex is a smooth manifold provided that the simplicial complex is a simplicial sphere; otherwise, the complex has a more complicated structure. Then we investigate the equivariant topology of the moment-angle complex and apply the EilenbergMoore spectral sequence. We also relate our results with well-known facts in the theory of toric varieties and symplectic geometry. Bibliography: 23 titles.  相似文献

Results of R. Stanley and M. Masuda completely characterize the h-vectors of simplicial posets whose order complexes are spheres. In this paper we examine the corresponding question in the case where the order complex is a ball. Using the face rings of these posets, we develop a series of new conditions on their h-vectors. We also present new methods for constructing poset balls with specific h-vectors. Combining this work with a new result of S. Murai we are able to give a complete characterization of the h-vectors of simplicial poset balls in all even dimensions, as well as odd dimensions less than or equal to five.  相似文献
