We provide new information about the structure of the abelian group of topological concordance classes of knots in $S^3$. One consequence is that there is a subgroup of infinite rank consisting entirely of knots with vanishing Casson-Gordon invariants but whose non-triviality is detected by von Neumann signatures.  相似文献

We establish certain ``nontriviality' results for several filtrations of the smooth and topological knot concordance groups. First, as regards the n-solvable filtration of the topological knot concordance group, , defined by K. Orr, P. Teichner and the first author:

we refine the recent nontriviality results of Cochran and Teichner by including information on the Alexander modules. These results also extend those of C. Livingston and the second author. We exhibit similar structure in the closely related symmetric Grope filtration of . We also show that the Grope filtration of the smooth concordance group is nontrivial using examples that cannot be distinguished by the Ozsváth-Szabó -invariant nor by J. Rasmussen's -invariant. Our broader contribution is to establish, in ``the relative case', the key homological results whose analogues Cochran-Orr-Teichner established in ``the absolute case'.

We say two knots and are concordant modulo -solvability if . Our main result is that, for any knot whose classical Alexander polynomial has degree greater than 2, and for any positive integer , there exist infinitely many knots that are concordant to modulo -solvability, but are all distinct modulo -solvability. Moreover, the and share the same classical Seifert matrix and Alexander module as well as sharing the same higher-order Alexander modules and Seifert presentations up to order .

In this paper, we propose a new optimization technique by modifying a chaos optimization algorithm (COA) based on the fractal theory. We first implement the weighted gradient direction-based chaos optimization in which the chaotic property is used to determine the initial choice of the optimization parameters both in the starting step and in the mutations applied when a convergence to local minima occurred. The algorithm is then improved by introducing a method to determine the optimal step size. This method is based on the fact that the sensitive dependence on the initial condition of a root finding technique (such as the Newton–Raphson search technique) has a fractal nature. From all roots (step sizes) found by the implemented technique, the one that most minimizes the cost function is employed in each iteration. Numerical simulation results are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

Hourly resolution time series of groundwater level fluctuations are analyzed after removing the seasonal cycle. It is found that fluctuations of groundwater levels have fractal scaling and a persistent behavior. We show also that groundwater level fluctuations exhibit non-Gaussian heavy tailed probability distribution that is well fitted by the Lévy stable distribution. Implications of the present results on the groundwater system modeling as a fractional Lévy motion and the connection with the anomalous diffusion inside the soil are discussed.  相似文献

We model the homotopy fiber of the inclusion of the space of long knots in dimension into the corresponding space of immersions, through an operad structure on compactifications of configuration spaces. We study primary submodules and primary decompositions from a differential and computational point of view. Our main theoretical contribution is a general structure theory and a representation theorem for primary submodules of an arbitrary finitely generated module over a polynomial ring. We characterize primary submodules in terms of differential operators and punctual Quot schemes. Moreover, we introduce and implement an algorithm that computes a minimal differential primary decomposition for a module.  相似文献
