Transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons with p(T)<8 GeV/c and neutral pions with p(T)<10 GeV/c have been measured at midrapidity by the PHENIX experiment at BNL RHIC in d+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV. The measured yields are compared to those in p+p collisions at the same sqrt[s(NN)] scaled up by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon collisions in d+Au. The yield ratio does not show the suppression observed in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Instead, there is a small enhancement in the yield of high momentum particles.  相似文献

We present the first measurement of pseudorapidity densities of primary charged particles near midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)] = 56 and 130 GeV. For the most central collisions, we find the charged-particle pseudorapidity density to be dN/deta|(|eta|<1) = 408+/-12(stat)+/-30(syst) at 56 GeV and 555+/-12(stat)+/-35(syst) at 130 GeV, values that are higher than any previously observed in nuclear collisions. Compared to proton-antiproton collisions, our data show an increase in the pseudorapidity density per participant by more than 40% at the higher energy.  相似文献

We have measured the ratios of antiparticles to particles for charged pions, kaons, and protons near mid-rapidity in central Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)] = 130 GeV. We observe / = 1.00+/-0.01(stat)+/-0.02(syst), / = 0.91+/-0.07(stat)+/-0.06(syst), and

/

= 0.60+/-0.04(stat)+/-0.06(syst). The / and

ratios give a consistent estimate of the baryo-chemical potential mu(B) of 45 MeV, a factor of 5-6 smaller than in central Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s(NN)] = 17.2 GeV.  相似文献

We present charged-particle multiplicities as a function of pseudorapidity and collision centrality for the 197Au+197Au reaction at square root[s(NN)] = 200 GeV. For the 5% most central events we obtain dN(ch)/deta/(eta = 0) = 625+/-55 and N(ch)/(-4.7< or =eta < or =4.7) = 4630 +/- 370, i.e., 14% and 21% increases, respectively, relative to square root[s(NN)] = 130 GeV collisions. Charged-particle production per pair of participant nucleons is found to increase from peripheral to central collisions around midrapidity. These results constrain current models of particle production at the highest RHIC energy.  相似文献

The STAR Collaboration has a broad range of recent results on intermediate and high- phenomena in Au + Au collisions at = 200 and 62 GeV and in d + Au at = 200 GeV. These include new measurements of spectra, azimuthal anisotropies and di-hadron correlations. The comparison of the 62 and 200 GeV Au + Au results indicates that jet quenching, elliptic flow and di-hadron correlation measurements are very similar at the two energies. Meson-baryon differences that have been seen at intermediate in 200 GeV Au + Au collisions are also present in 62 GeV Au + Au collisions and in 200 GeV d + Au collisions. Measurements of backward-forward inclusive hadron yield asymmetries and forward-midrapidity di-hadron correlations in d + Au collisions are consistent with the saturation picture. A brief review of these results is presented. Arrival of the final proofs: 30 June 2005 PACS: 25.75.Dw, 25.75.Ld, 25.75.Gz  相似文献

The interplay of nuclear effects on the p(T)>2 GeV inclusive hadron spectra in d+Au and Au+Au reactions at sqrt[s(NN)]=17, 200, and 5500 GeV is compared to leading order perturbative QCD calculations for elementary p+p (p+p) collisions. The competition between nuclear shadowing, Cronin effect, and jet energy loss due to medium-induced gluon radiation is predicted to lead to a striking energy dependence of the nuclear suppression/enhancement pattern in A+A reactions. We show that future d+Au data can be used to disentangle the initial and final state effects.  相似文献

We present results from the PHOBOS experiment on charged hadron production over a large range in , from Data from d + Au collisions at GeV and Au + Au collisions at and 200 GeV are shown. The data indicate that in Au + Au collisions a strongly interacting state of matter is formed, that appears qualitatively different from the system formed in pp or d + Au collisions. The systematics of particle production in d + Au and Au + Au collisions exhibit remarkably simple scaling rules, including an apparent factorization of the energy and centrality dependence over a wide range of collision energies. The BRAHMS measurement of proton-to-pion ratios in Au+Au and p+p collisions at $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } = 62.4 GeV and $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } = 200 GeV is presented as a function of transverse momentum and collision centrality within the pseudorapidity range 0 ≤ η ≤ 3. The baryo-chemical potential, μ B , for the indicated data spans from μ B ≈ 26 MeV ($ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } 200 GeV, η ≈ 0) to μ B ∼ 260 MeV ($ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } = 62.4 GeV, η ≈ 3) [1]. The p/πratio measured for Au+Au system at $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } 62.4 GeV, η ≈ 3 reaches astounding value of 8–10 at p T > 1.5 GeV/c. For these energy and pseudorapidity interval no centrality dependency of p/π ratio is observed. Moreover, the baryon-to-meson ratio of nucleus-nucleus data are consistent with results obtained for p+p interactions.  相似文献

Measurements of identified particle production with the PHENIX experiment at RHIC have reached a mature state, where a multitude of nuclear systems at different colliding energies have been studied. The discovery configurations of $\sqrt {s_{NN} } = 130$ and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions have now been supplemented by additional Au+Au and Cu+Cu configurations at various energies, along with baseline p+p and d+Au runs at $\sqrt {s_{NN} } = 130$ GeV. In this work we present a systematic study of the Cronin effect in d+Au collisions and recent results from p+p collisions. We then proceed to make a critical comparison of pion, kaon and proton production in heavy ion and baseline systems, and discuss the observed nuclear effects on hadron production.  相似文献

We present spectra of charged hadrons from Au+Au and d+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV measured with the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC. The spectra for different collision centralities are compared to spectra from p+(-)p collisions at the same energy scaled by the number of binary collisions. The resulting ratios (nuclear modification factors) for central Au+Au collisions at eta=0 and eta=2.2 evidence a strong suppression in the high p(T) region (>2 GeV/c). In contrast, the d+Au nuclear modification factor (at eta=0) exhibits an enhancement of the high p(T) yields. These measurements indicate a high energy loss of the high p(T) particles in the medium created in the central Au+Au collisions. The lack of suppression in d+Au collisions makes it unlikely that initial state effects can explain the suppression in the central Au+Au collisions.  相似文献

Stopping in heavy ion collisions has been measured at several energies from AGS to RHIC (spanning $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } = 5 GeV to $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } = 200 GeV).The systematics of stopping hint the onset of a collision regime that might include LHC energies. Stopping in $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } $ \sqrt {s_{NN} } = 62.4 GeV Au+Au collisions contribute to the understanding of different collision systems.  相似文献

The measured pseudorapidity distribution of primary charged particles in minimum-bias d+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV is presented for the first time. This distribution falls off less rapidly in the gold direction as compared to the deuteron direction. The average value of the charged particle pseudorapidity density at midrapidity is |eta|< or =0.6)=9.4+/-0.7(syst) and the integrated primary charged particle multiplicity in the measured region is 82+/-6(syst). Estimates of the total charged particle production, based on extrapolations outside the measured pseudorapidity region, are also presented. The pseudorapidity distribution, normalized to the number of participants in d+Au collisions, is compared to those of Au+Au and p+(-)p systems at the same energy. The d+Au distribution is also compared to the predictions of the parton saturation model, as well as microscopic models.  相似文献

We report measurements of single-particle inclusive spectra and two-particle azimuthal distributions of charged hadrons at high transverse momentum (high p(T)) in minimum bias and central d+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV. The inclusive yield is enhanced in d+Au collisions relative to binary-scaled p+p collisions, while the two-particle azimuthal distributions are very similar to those observed in p+p collisions. These results demonstrate that the strong suppression of the inclusive yield and back-to-back correlations at high p(T) previously observed in central Au+Au collisions are due to final-state interactions with the dense medium generated in such collisions.  相似文献
