Tunneling density of states measurements of disordered superconducting Al films in high Zeeman fields reveal a significant population of subgap states which cannot be explained by standard BCS theory. We provide a natural explanation of these excess states in terms of a novel disordered Larkin-Ovchinnikov phase that occurs near the spin-paramagnetic transition at the Chandrasekhar-Clogston critical field. The disordered Larkin-Ovchinnikov superconductor is characterized by a pairing amplitude that changes sign at domain walls. These domain walls carry magnetization and support Andreev bound states that lead to distinct spectral signatures at low energy.  相似文献

The Andreev reflection probability for a ferromagnet/isolator/superconductor (FIS) contact at the arbitrary spin-dependent amplitudes of the electron waves transmitted through and reflected from the potential barrier is found. It is shown that the Andreev reflection probabilities of electron and hole excitations in the FIS contact are different. The energy levels of the Andreev bound states are found. The ballistic conductance of the point FIS contact is calculated. The text was submitted by the author in English.  相似文献

This paper theoretically studies Josephson spin current through triplet superconductor/ferromagnet/triplet superconductor junctions. At the ferromagnet/superconductor interfaces, the ferromagnetic scattering potential gives rise to coupling between the Andreev bound states and lifts their spin degeneracy. These spin-split Andreev states carry the Josephson spin current through the junctions. The generated spin supercurrent can be controlled by the magnetization of a ferromagnetic thin layer and bias voltage across the junctions.  相似文献

Oscillations of Andreev states in clean ferromagnetic films   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We investigate the influence of the exchange field on the Andreev bound states in a ferromagnetic ( F) film backed on one side by a superconductor ( S). Our model accounts for diffusive reflection at the outer surface and possible backscattering at the FS interface. Phase shifting of the Andreev level by the exchange field results in an oscillatory behavior of the density of states of F as a function of the layer thickness. We show that our results agree quantitatively with recent experiments.  相似文献

The energy bands and the global density of states are computed for superconductor / normal-metal superlattices in the clean limit. Dispersion relations are derived for the general case of insulating interfaces, including the mismatch of Fermi velocities and effective band masses. We focus on the influence of finite interface transparency and compare our results with those for transparent superlattices and trilayers. Analogously to the rapid variation on the atomic scale of the energy dispersion with layer thicknesses in transparent superlattices, we find strong oscillations of the almost flat energy bands (transmission resonances) in the case of finite transparency. In small-period transparent superlattices the BCS coherence peak disappears and a similar subgap peak is formed due to the Andreev process. With decreasing interface transparency the characteristic double peak structure in the global density of states develops towards a gapless BCS-like result in the tunnel limit. This effect can be used as a reliable STM probe for interface transparency.  相似文献

Andreev bound states in monoatomic superconductor–ferromagnet (S/F) superlattices are studied theoretically, assuming tunneling between S and F layers in perpendicular direction. Andreev reflection at S/F interfaces is strongly affected by the exchange interaction h in F layers. In the ground state, only for h≠0 zero-energy states (ZES) are formed on S and F layers. For h=0, corresponding to superconductor–normal metal (S/N) superlattices, ZES may appear in the nonequilibrium phase, =π. This is found both for s-wave and d-wave symmetry of the order parameter in S. The conditions for ZES are obtained as a function of h, of the transfer integral t for movement of quasiparticles (QPs) between S and F layers, and of the corresponding ground state phase difference eq between two neighboring S layers.  相似文献

A superconductor-topological insulator-superconductor (S/TI/S) junction having normal region at angle θ is studied theoretically to investigate the junction angle dependency of the Andreev reflection and the formation of the Andreev bound states in the step and planar S/TI/S structures. It is found that the Andreev reflection becomes θ dependent only in the presence of the potential barrier at the TI/S interface. In particular, the step and planar TI/S junction have totally different conductive behavior with bias voltage and potential barrier in the regime of retro and specular Andreev reflection. Interestingly, we find that the elliptical cross section of Dirac cone, an important feature of topological insulator with step surface defect, affects the Fabry-Perot resonance of the Andreev reflection induced Andreev bound states (which become Majorana zero energy states at low chemical potential) in the step S/TI/S structure. Unlike the usual planar S/TI/S structures, we find these ellipticity affected Andreev bound states lead to non-monotonic Josephson super-current in the step S/TI/S structure whose non-monotonicity can be controlled with the use of the potential barrier, which may find applications in nanoelectronics.  相似文献

The spin-dependent Andreev reflection is investigated theoretically by analyzing the electronic transport in a thin-film topological insulator (TI) ferromagnet/superconductor (FM/SC) junction. The tunneling conductance and shot noise are calculated based on the Dirac-Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation and Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk theory. It is found that the magnetic gap in ferromagnet can enhance the Andreev retro-reflection but suppress the specular Andreev reflection. The gate potential applied to the electrode on top of superconductor can enhance the two types of reflections. There is a transition between the two types of reflections at which both the tunneling conductance and differential shot noise become zero. These results provide a method to realize and detect experimentally the intra-band specular Andreev reflection in thin film TI-based FM/SC structures.  相似文献

The recently discovered superconductor Cu(x)Bi2Se3 is a candidate for three-dimensional time-reversal-invariant topological superconductors, which are predicted to have robust surface Andreev bound states hosting massless Majorana fermions. In this work, we analytically and numerically find the linearly dispersing Majorana fermions at k=0, which smoothly evolve into a new branch of gapless surface Andreev bound states near the Fermi momentum. The latter is a new type of Andreev bound states resulting from both the nontrivial band structure and the odd-parity pairing symmetry. The tunneling spectra of these surface Andreev bound states agree well with a recent point-contact spectroscopy experiment [S. Sasaki et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 217001 (2011)] and yield additional predictions for low temperature tunneling and photoemission experiments.  相似文献

We extend the circuit theory of superconductivity to cover transport and proximity effect in mesoscopic systems that contain unconventional superconductor junctions. The approach fully accounts for zero-energy Andreev bound states forming at the surface of unconventional superconductors. As a simple application, we investigate the transport properties of a diffusive normal metal in series with a d-wave superconductor junction. We reveal the competition between the formation of Andreev bound states and proximity effect that depends on the crystal orientation of the junction interface.  相似文献

We theoretically study the differential conductance of a graphene/graphene superconductor junction, where the valley polarization of Dirac electrons is considered in the nonsuperconducting region. It is shown that the subgap conductance will increase monotonically with the valley-polarization strength when the chemical potential μ is near the Dirac point μ≤ 3?(? is the superconducting gap), whereas it will decrease monotonically when μ is far away from the Dirac point, μ≥ 5?.The former case is induced by the specular Andreev reflection while the retro-reflection accounts for the later result. Our findings may shed light on the control of conductance of a graphene superconductor junction by valley polarization.  相似文献

We propose a method to probe the nonlocality of a pair of Majorana bound states by crossed Andreev reflection, which is the injection of an electron into one bound state followed by the emission of a hole by the other (equivalent to the splitting of a Cooper pair). We find that, at sufficiently low excitation energies, this nonlocal scattering process dominates over local Andreev reflection involving a single bound state. As a consequence, the low-temperature and low-frequency fluctuations deltaI(i) of currents into the two bound states i=1, 2 are maximally correlated: deltaI_1deltaI_2[over ]=deltaI_i(2).[over ].  相似文献

We study the influence of surface Andreev bound states in d-wave superconductors on the Bean-Livingston surface barrier for entry of a vortex line into a strongly type-II superconductor. Starting from Eilenberger theory, we derive a generalization of London theory to incorporate the anomalous surface currents arising from the Andreev bound states. This allows us to find an analytical expression for the modification of the Bean-Livingston barrier in terms of a single parameter describing the influence of the Andreev bound states. We find that the field of first vortex entry is significantly enhanced. Also, the depinning field for vortices near the surface is renormalized. Both effects are temperature dependent and depend on the orientation of the surface relative to the d-wave gap.  相似文献

We calculate the thermal conductance G(T) of diffusive Andreev interferometers, which are hybrid loops with one superconducting arm and one normal-metal arm. The presence of the superconductor suppresses G(T); however, unlike a conventional superconductor, G(T)/G(T)(N) does not vanish as the temperature T-->0, but saturates at a finite value that depends on the resistance of the normal-superconducting interfaces, and their distance from the path of the temperature gradient. The reduction of G(T) is determined primarily by the suppression of the density of states in the proximity-coupled normal metal along the path of the temperature gradient. G(T) is also a strongly nonlinear function of the thermal current, as found in recent experiments.  相似文献

We analyze the charge transport between a one-dimensional weakly interacting electron gas and a superconductor within the scaling approach in the basis of scattering states. We derive the renormalization group equations, which fully account for the intrinsic energy dependence due to Andreev reflection. A strong renormalization of the corresponding reflection phase is predicted even for a perfectly transparent metal-superconductor interface. The interaction-induced suppression of the Andreev conductance is shown to be highly sensitive to the normal-state resistance, providing a possible explanation of experiments with carbon-nanotube/superconductor junctions by Morpurgo et al. [Science 286, 263 (1999)].  相似文献

Taking into account the effects of quantum interference and interface scattering, combining the electron current with hole current contribution to tunnel current,we study the coherent quantum transport in normal-metal/d-wave superconductor/normal-metal (NM/d-wave SC/NM) double tunnel junctions by using extended Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) approach. It is shown that all quasiparticle transport coefficients and conductance spectrum exhibit oscillating behavior with the energy, in which periodic vanishing of Andreev reflection (AR) above superconducting gap is found. In tunnel limit for the interface scattering strength taken very large, there are a series of bound states of quasiparticles formed in SC.

We investigate the Andreev tunneling and Josephson current in graphene irradiated with high-frequency linearly polarized light. The corresponding stroboscopic dynamics can be solved using Floquet mechanism which results in an effective stationary theory to the problem exhibiting an anisotropic Dirac spectrum and modified pseudospin-momentum locking. When applied to an irradiated normal graphene - superconductor (NS) interface, such analysis reveal Andreev reflection (AR) to become an oscillatory function of the optical strength. Specifically we find that, by varying the polarization direction we can both suppress AR considerably or cause the Andreev transport to remain maximum at sub-gap excitation energies even in the presence of Fermi level mismatch. Furthermore, we study the optical effect on the Andreev bound states (ABS) within a short normal-graphene sheet, sandwiched between two s-wave superconductors. It shows redistribution of the low energy regime in the ABS spectrum, which in turn, has major effect in shaping the Josephson super-current. Subjected to efficient tuning, such current can be sufficiently altered even at the charge neutrality point. Our observations provide useful feedback in regulating the quantum transport in Dirac-like systems, achieved via controlled off-resonant optical irradiation on them.  相似文献

We present point contact spectroscopy (PCS) data for junctions between a normal metal and the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Pr(2-x)CexCuO4 (PCCO). For the underdoped compositions of this cuprate ( x approximately 0.13) we observe a peak in the conductance-voltage characteristics of the point contact junctions. The shape and magnitude of this peak suggest the presence of Andreev bound states at the surface of underdoped PCCO which is evidence for a d-wave pairing symmetry. For overdoped PCCO ( x approximately 0.17) the PCS data do not show any evidence of Andreev bound states at the surface suggesting an s-wave pairing symmetry.  相似文献
