We investigate the spectral properties of the time‐dependent linear transport equation with bounce‐back boundary conditions. A fine analysis of the spectrum of the streaming operator is given and the explicit expression of the strongly continuous streaming semigroup is derived. Next, making use of a recent result from Sbihi (J. Evol. Equations 2007; 7 :689–711), we prove, via a compactness argument, that the essential spectrum of the transport semigroup and that of the streaming semigroup coincide on all Lp‐spaces with 1<p<∞. In this paper we perform an extensive study of the existence, uniqueness (or multiplicity) and stability of nonnegative solutions to the semilinear elliptic equation − Δu = λ uu p in Ω, with the nonlinear boundary condition ∂u/∂ν = u r on ∂Ω. Here Ω is a smooth bounded domain of with outward unit normal ν, λ is a real parameter and p, r > 0. We also give the precise behavior of solutions for large |λ| in the cases where they exist. The proofs are mainly based on bifurcation techniques, sub-supersolutions and variational methods.   相似文献

Consider a family of probability measures, indexed by , on a bounded open region with a smooth boundary. For any starting point inside , we run a standard -dimensional Brownian motion in until it first exits , at which time it jumps to a point inside the domain according to the jump measure at the exit point and starts a new Brownian motion. The same evolution is repeated independently each time the process reaches the boundary. We study the exponential rate at which the transition distribution of the process converges to its invariant measure, in terms of the spectral gap of the generator. In particular, we prove two conjectures of I. Ben-Ari and R. Pinsky for an interval (see J. Funct. Anal. 251 (2007), 122-140, and preprint (2007)) by studying when a combination of the sine and cosine transforms of probability measures on an interval has only real zeros.

In this paper, the singular second order differential operators are considered defined on the multi-interval. Some boundary and transmission conditions are imposed on the maximal domain functions with the spectral parameter. After constructing the differential operators associated with the boundary value transmission problems on the suitable Hilbert spaces, it is proved that these operators are the maximal dissipative operators. Finally constructing the model operators which are established with the help of the scattering functions, it is proved that all root vectors of the maximal dissipative operators are complete in the Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

The stability of difference schemes for one-dimensional and two-dimensional parabolic equations, subject to non-local (Bitsadze-Samarskii type) boundary conditions is dealt with. To analyze the stability of difference schemes, the structure of the spectrum of the matrix that defines the linear system of difference equations for a respective stationary problem is studied. Depending on the values of parameters in non-local conditions, this matrix can have one zero, one negative or complex eigenvalues. The stepwise stability is proved and the domain of stability of difference schemes is found.  相似文献

Dirac operator with eigenvalue-dependent boundary and jump conditions is studied. Uniqueness theorems of the inverse problems from either Weyl function or the spectral data (the sets of eigenvalues and norming constants except for one eigenvalue and corresponding norming constant; two sets of different eigenvalues except for two eigenvalues) are proved. Finally, we investigate two applications of these theorems and obtain analogues of a theorem of Hochstadt-Lieberman and a theorem of Mochizuki-Trooshin.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a spectral method for the vorticity‐stream function form of the Navier–Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions. The numerical solutions fulfill the incompressibility and the physical boundary conditions automatically. The stability and convergence of the proposed methods are proven. We study a nonlinear elliptic second order problem with a nonlinear boundary condition. Assuming the existence of an ordered couple of a supersolution and a subsolution, we develop a quasilinearization method in order to construct an iterative scheme that converges to a solution. We prove the analog of the Kac conjecture for hard sphere collisions, giving a computable, close estimate on the spectral gap that is independent of the number of particles. Previous work has focused on the case in which the collision rates are independent of the particle velocities, the case of so-called Maxwellian molecules.
