On the Moore-Penrose inverse, EP Banach space operators, and EP Banach algebra elements

The main concern of this note is the Moore-Penrose inverse in the context of Banach spaces and algebras. Especially attention will be given to a particular class of elements with the aforementioned inverse, namely EP Banach space operators and Banach algebra elements, which will be studied and characterized extending well-known results obtained in the frame of Hilbert space operators and C^∗-algebra elements.     

SVEP for multipliers on a faithful commutative Banach algebra

We give some sufficient conditions that each multiplier on a faithful commutative Banach algebra has SVEP. On the other hand, we show that there exist a faithful commutative Banach algebra and a multiplier on it without SVEP. Such examples of multipliers can actually be found within the class of multiplication operators on unital commutative Banach algebras. This answers in negative a question that is stated as Open problem 6.2.1 by Laursen and Neumann, 2000.

     

The Banach algebras generated by operators with one-point spectrum

In this article, we present some results related to the structure of Banach algebras generated by operators with one-point spectrum.     

Invariant Subspaces of Operator Lie Algebras and the Theory of K-Algebras

It is proved that if a Lie algebra of compact operators contains a nonzero ideal consisting of quasinilpotent operators then this Lie algebra has a nontrivial invariant subspace. Some applications of this result to lattices of invariant subspaces for families of compact operators and to structures of ideals of Banach Lie algebras with compact adjoint action are given.     

New fixed point theorems in Banach algebras under weak topology features and applications to nonlinear integral equations

We introduce a class of Banach algebras satisfying certain sequential condition (P) and we prove fixed point theorems for the sum and the product of nonlinear weakly sequentially continuous operators. Later on, we give some examples of applications of these types of results to the existence of solutions of nonlinear integral equations in Banach algebras.     

Minus partial order and linear preservers

In this paper, we investigate the properties of minus partial order in unital rings. We generalize several results well known for matrices and bounded linear operators on Banach spaces. We also study linear maps preserving the minus partial order in unital semisimple Banach algebras with essential socle.     

Compact Operators on Homogeneous Banach Spaces of Distributions on Locally Compact Abelian Groups

In this paper, two theorems about the compactness of almost invariant operators on homogeneous Banach spaces of distributions (in the sense of Feichtinger [11]) defined on a locally compact abelian group are proved. Our theorems generalize the corresponding results of K. de Leeuw [3] and Tewari and Madan [18] for operators on homogeneous Banach spaces on the circle group and Segal algebras on a compact abelian groups, respectively.AMS Subject Classification 2000: 43A85, 47B07.     

Interpolation of positive operators

We study problems of interpolation of positive linear operators in couples of ordered Banach spaces. From this viewpoint, we study couples of noncommutative spaces L ₁, L _∞ associated with weights and traces on von Neumann algebras.

Fredholmness of singular integral operators with discrete subexponentialgroups of shifts on Lebesgue spaces

The paper is devoted to an application of a general local method of studying the Fredholmness of nonlocal bounded linear operators to Banach algebras of singular integral operators with piecewise continuous coefficients and discrete subexponential groups of piecewise smooth shifts acting topologically freely on composed contours. Fixed point theorems of block operator matrices on Banach algebras and an application to functional integral equations

In this paper, we study some fixed point theorems of a 2 × 2 block operator matrix defined on nonempty bounded closed convex subsets of Banach algebras, where the entries are nonlinear operators. A Banach Algebra Version of the Sato Grassmannian and Commutative Rings of Differential Operators

We show that commutative rings of formal pseudodifferential operators can be conjugated as subrings in noncommutative Banach algebras of operators in the presence of certain eigenfunctions. Techniques involve those of the Sato Grassmannian as used in the study of the KP hierarchy as well as the geometry of an infinite dimensional Stiefel bundle with structure modeled on such Banach algebras. Generalizations of this procedure are also considered.     

An extension of a Phillips's theorem to Banach algebras and application to the uniform continuity of strongly continuous semigroups

In this work we present an extension to arbitrary unital Banach algebras of a result due to Phillips [R.S. Phillips, Spectral theory of semigroups of linear operators, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 71 (1951) 393-415] (Theorem 1.1) which provides sufficient conditions assuring the uniform continuity of strongly continuous semigroups of linear operators. It implies that, when dealing with the algebra of bounded operators on a Banach space, the conditions of Phillips's theorem are also necessary. Moreover, it enables us to derive necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of essential spectra which guarantee the uniform continuity of strongly continuous semigroups. We close the paper by discussing the uniform continuity of strongly continuous groups (T(t))_t∈R acting on Banach spaces with separable duals such that, for each t∈R, the essential spectrum of T(t) is a finite set.     

Algebraic properties of isometries between groups of invertible elements in Banach algebras

We prove that an isometry T between open subgroups of the invertible groups of unital Banach algebras A and B is extended to a real-linear isometry up to translation between these Banach algebras. While a unital isometry between unital semisimple commutative Banach algebras need not be multiplicative, we prove in this paper that if A is commutative and A or B are semisimple, then (T(eA))⁻¹T is extended to an isometric real algebra isomorphism from A onto B. In particular, A−1 is isometric as a metric space to B−1 if and only if they are isometrically isomorphic to each other as metrizable groups if and only if A is isometrically isomorphic to B as a real Banach algebra; it is compared by the example of ?elazko concerning on non-isomorphic Banach algebras with the homeomorphically isomorphic invertible groups. Isometries between open subgroups of the invertible groups of unital closed standard operator algebras on Banach spaces are investigated and their general forms are given.     

Approximate amenability is not bounded approximate amenability

We obtain a new criterion sufficient for approximate amenability of Banach algebras, and an associated criterion sufficient for approximate amenability of _c0$c_0$-direct sums of approximately amenable Banach algebras. We use these criteria to give examples of Banach algebras which are approximately amenable, but not boundedly approximately amenable. Thus we answer a question which was open since the year 2004. This is, so to speak, the complementary result to one of our earlier ones in the paper [F. Ghahramani, C.J. Read, Approximate identities in approximate amenability, J. Funct. Anal. 262 (9) (2012) 3929–3945], where we gave examples of boundedly approximately amenable Banach algebras that are not boundedly approximately contractible.     

Interpolation of Banach algebras and tensor products of Banach couples

Using tensor products of Banach couples we study a class of interpolation functors with the property that to every Banach couple of Banach algebras they give an interpolation space which is a Banach algebra. For the real θ,1-method we give a complete answer to the question of when the interpolation space is unital.     

Elementary operators on algebras of unbounded operators

Summary Structural results about elementary operators of length one, local elementary operators and injectivity preserving maps are proved. These are generalizations of results concerning algebras of bounded operators on Banach spaces to algebras of unbounded operators on Hilbert spaces.     

Some notes on amenability and weak amenability of Lau product of Banach algebras defined by a Banach algebra morphism

Let A and B be Banach algebras and T : B → A be a continuous homomorphism. nweak amenability of the Banach algebra A ×T B(defined in Bade, W. G., Curtis, P. C., Dales, H. G.:Amenability and weak amenability for Beurling and Lipschitz algebras. Proc. London Math. Soc.,55(2), 359–377(1987)) is studied. The new version of a Banach algebra defined with a continuous homomorphism is introduced and Arens regularity and various notions of amenability of this algebra are studied.     

Affine mappings of invertible operators

The infinite-dimensional analogues of the classical general linear group appear as groups of invertible elements of Banach algebras. Mappings of these groups onto themselves that extend to affine mappings of the ambient Banach algebra are shown to be linear exactly when the Banach algebra is semi-simple. The form of such linear mappings is studied when the Banach algebra is a C*-algebra.
