A two‐step hysteretic FeII spin crossover (SCO) effect was achieved in programmed layered Cs{[Fe(3‐CNpy)2][Re(CN)8]}?H2O ( 1 ) (3‐CNpy=3‐cyanopyridine) assembly consisting of cyanido‐bridged FeII‐ReV square grid sheets bonded by Cs+ ions. The presence of two non‐equivalent FeII sites and the conjunction of 2D bimetallic coordination network with non‐covalent interlayer interactions involving Cs+, [ReV(CN)8]3? ions, and 3‐CNpy ligands, leads to the occurrence of two steps of thermal SCO with strong cooperativity giving a double thermal hysteresis loop. The resulting spin‐transition phenomenon could be tuned by an external pressure giving the room‐temperature range of SCO, as well as by visible‐light irradiation, inducing an efficient recovery of the high‐spin FeII state at low temperatures. We prove that octacyanidorhenate(V) ion is an outstanding metalloligand for induction of a cooperative multistep, multiswitchable FeII SCO effect.  相似文献

The reaction of [FeL(MeOH)2] (L being a tetradentate [N2O2]2? coordinating Schiff base like ligand [([3,3′]‐[1,2‐phenylenebis(iminomethylidyne)]bis(2,4‐pentane‐dionato)(2‐)N,N′,O2,O2′], MeOH = methanol) with 4,4′‐bipyridine (bipy) results in the formation of a new iron(II ) spin crossover coordination polymer of the formula [FeL(bipy)] ( 1 ). T‐dependent susceptibility measurements revealed an abrupt HS ? LS spin transition with an approximately 18 K‐wide thermal hysteresis loop (T1/2 = 237 K and T1/2 = 219 K). The isolation of crystals suitable for X‐ray structure analysis allowed the determination of the motive of the molecule structure of the first 1‐D chain compound with hysteresis in the HS form at 250 K. Despite the low qualtity of the data, we were able to obtain some insight into the interplay of covalent and elastic interactions that are both responsible for the high cooperative interactions during the spin transition in this compound.  相似文献

Cation–π interactions are one of the most important classes of noncovalent bonding, and are seen throughout biology, chemistry, and materials science. However, in almost every documented case, these interactions play only a supporting role to much stronger covalent or dative bonds, thus making examples of exclusive cation–π bonding exceedingly rare. In this study, a neutral diboryne molecule is found to encapsulate the light alkali metal cations Li+ and Na+ in the absence of a net charge, covalent bonds, or lone‐pair donor groups. The resulting encapsulation complexes are, to our knowledge, the first structurally authenticated species in which a neutral molecule binds the light alkali metals exclusively through cation–π interactions.  相似文献

A new synthesis of (8‐quinolyl)‐5‐methoxysalicylaldimine (Hqsal‐5‐OMe) is reported and its crystal structure is presented. Two FeIII complexes, [Fe(qsal‐5‐OMe)2]Cl ? solvent (solvent=2 MeOH ? 0.5 H2O ( 1 ) and MeCN ? H2O ( 2 )) have been prepared and their structural, electronic and magnetic properties studied. [Fe(qsal‐5‐OMe)2] Cl ? 2 MeOH ? 0.5 H2O ( 1 ) exhibits rare crystallographically independent high‐spin and low‐spin FeIII centres at 150 K, whereas [Fe(qsal‐5‐OMe)2]Cl ? MeCN ? H2O ( 2 ) is low spin at 100 K. In both structures there are extensive π–π and C? H???π interactions. SQUID magnetometry of 2 reveals an unusual abrupt stepped‐spin crossover with T1/2=245 K and 275 K for steps 1 and 2, respectively, with a slight hysteresis of 5 K in the first step and a plateau of 15 K between the steps. In contrast, 1 is found to undergo an abrupt half‐spin crossover also with a hysteresis of 10 K. The two compounds are the first FeIII complexes of a substituted qsal ligand to exhibit abrupt spin crossover. These conclusions are supported by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. Both complexes exhibit reversible reduction to FeII at ?0.18 V and irreversible oxidation of the coordinated qsal‐5‐OMe ligand at +1.10 V.  相似文献

To introduce halogen‐bond interactions between a cation and an anion, a novel FeIII complex from iodine‐substituted ligands involving a paramagnetic nickel dithiolene anion was prepared and characterized. The compound exhibited the synergy between a spin‐crossover transition and a spin‐Peierls‐like singlet formation. The halogen‐bond interactions between the iodine and the sulfur atoms stabilized the paramagnetic state of π‐spins and played a crucial role in the synergistic magnetic transition between d‐ and π‐spins. In addition, the compound showed the light‐induced excited spin state trapping effect.  相似文献

Theoretical studies of 1,3‐alternate‐25,27‐bis(1‐methoxyethyl)calix[4]arene‐azacrown‐5 ( L1 ), 1,3‐alternate‐25,27‐bis(1‐methoxyethyl)calix[4]arene‐N‐phenyl‐azacrown‐5 ( L2 ), and the corresponding complexes M+/ L of L1 and L2 with the alkali‐metal cations: Na+, K+, and Rb+ have been performed using density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6‐31G* level. The optimized geometric structures obtained from DFT calculations are used to perform natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. The two main types of driving force metal–ligand and cation–π interactions are investigated. The results indicate that intermolecular electrostatic interactions are dominant and the electron‐donating oxygen offer lone pair electrons to the contacting RY* (1‐center Rydberg) or LP* (1‐center valence antibond lone pair) orbitals of M+ (Na+, K+, and Rb+). What's more, the cation–π interactions between the metal ion and π‐orbitals of the two rotated benzene rings play a minor role. For all the structures, the most pronounced changes in geometric parameters upon interaction are observed in the calix[4]arene molecule. In addition, an extra pendant phenyl group attached to nitrogen can promote metal complexation by 3D encapsulation greatly. In addition, the enthalpies of complexation reaction and hydrated cation exchange reaction had been studied by the calculated thermodynamic data. The calculated results of hydrated cation exchange reaction are in a good agreement with the experimental data for the complexes. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Comput Chem, 2010  相似文献

A neutral mononuclear FeIII complex [FeIII(H‐5‐Br‐thsa‐Me)(5‐Br‐thsa‐Me)]?H2O ( 1 ; H2‐5‐Br‐thsa‐Me=5‐bromosalicylaldehyde methylthiosemicarbazone) was prepared that exhibited a three‐step spin‐crossover (SCO) with symmetry breaking and a 14 K hysteresis loop owing to strong cooperativity. Two ordered intermediate states of 1 were observed, 4HS–2LS and 2HS–4LS, which exhibited reentrant phase‐transition behavior. This study provides a new platform for examining multistability in SCO complexes.  相似文献

Herein, we report a way to achieve abrupt high‐spin to low‐spin transition with controllable transition temperature and hysteresis width, relying not on solid‐state cooperative interactions, but utilizing coherency between phase and spin transitions in neutral FeII meltable complexes.  相似文献

The interplay between pnicogen bonds and cation–π interactions has been investigated at the MP2/aug‐cc‐pVDZ level. Interesting cooperative and diminutive effects are observed when pnicogen bonds and cation–π interactions coexist in the same complex. These effects have been analyzed in terms of the structural, energetic, and charge‐transfer properties of the complexes. The variations in electron density at critical points of the intermolecular bond have been used to analyze bond strengthening or weakening. The nature of the interactions and the mechanisms of cooperative and diminutive effects have been studied by means of symmetry‐adapted perturbation theory and molecular electrostatic potentials.  相似文献

Molecular magnetic switches are expected to form the functional components of future nanodevices. Herein we combine detailed (photo‐) crystallography and magnetic studies to reveal the unusual switching properties of an iron(III) complex, between low (LS) and high (HS) spin states. On cooling, it exhibits a partial thermal conversion associated with a reconstructive phase transition from a [HS‐HS] to a [LS‐HS] phase with a hysteresis of 25 K. Photoexcitation at low temperature allows access to a [LS‐LS] phase, never observed at thermal equilibrium. As well as reporting the first iron(III) spin crossover complex to exhibit reverse‐LIESST (light‐induced excited spin state trapping), we also reveal a hidden hysteresis of 30 K between the hidden [LS‐LS] and [HS‐LS] phases. Moreover, we demonstrate that FeIII spin‐crossover (SCO) complexes can be just as effective as FeII systems, and with the advantage of being air‐stable, they are ideally suited for use in molecular electronics.  相似文献

A thermochromic 1D spin crossover coordination (SCO) polymer [Fe(βAlatrz)3](BF4)2 ? 2 H2O ( 1? 2 H2O), whose precursor βAlatrz, (1,2,4‐triazol‐4‐yl‐propionate) has been tailored from a β‐amino acid ester is investigated in detail by a set of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), 57Fe Mössbauer, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared, and Raman measurements. An hysteretic abrupt two‐step spin crossover (T1/2=230 K and T1/2=235 K, and T1/2=172 K and T1/2=188 K, respectively) is registered for the first time for a 1,2,4‐triazole‐based FeII 1D coordination polymer. The two‐step SCO configuration is observed in a 1:2 ratio of low‐spin/high‐spin in the intermediate phase for a 1D chain. The origin of the stepwise transition was attributed to a distribution of chains of different lengths in 1? 2 H2O after First Order Reversal Curves (FORC) analyses. A detailed DFT analysis allowed us to propose the normal mode assignment of the Raman peaks in the low‐spin and high‐spin states of 1? 2 H2O. Vibrational spectra of 1? 2 H2O reveal that the BF4? anions and water molecules play no significant role on the vibrational properties of the [Fe(βAlatrz)3]2+ polymeric chains, although non‐coordinated water molecules have a dramatic influence on the emergence of a step in the spin transition curve. The dehydrated material [Fe(βAlatrz)3](BF4)2 ( 1 ) reveals indeed a significantly different magnetic behavior with a one‐step SCO which was also investigated.  相似文献

We designed M1???C6H5X???HM2 (M1=Li+, Na+; X=Cl, Br; M2=Li, Na, BeH, MgH) complexes to enhance halogen–hydride halogen bonding with a cation–π interaction. The interaction strength has been estimated mainly in terms of the binding distance and the interaction energy. The results show that halogen–hydride halogen bonding is strengthened greatly by a cation–π interaction. The interaction energy in the triads is two to six times as much as that in the dyads. The largest interaction energy is ?8.31 kcal mol?1 for the halogen bond in the Li+???C6H5Br???HNa complex. The nature of the cation, the halogen donor, and the metal hydride influence the nature of the halogen bond. The enhancement effect of Li+ on the halogen bond is larger than that of Na+. The halogen bond in the Cl donor has a greater enhancement than that in the Br one. The metal hydride imposes its effect in the order HBeH<HMgH<HNa<HLi for the Cl complex and HBeH<HMgH<HLi<HNa for the Br complex. The large cooperative energy indicates that there is a strong interplay between the halogen–hydride halogen bonding and the cation–π interaction. Natural bond orbital and energy decomposition analyses indicate that the electrostatic interaction plays a dominate role in enhancing halogen bonding by a cation–π interaction.  相似文献

Three iron(II) complexes, [Fe(TPMA)(BIM)](ClO4)2?0.5H2O ( 1 ), [Fe(TPMA)(XBIM)](ClO4)2 ( 2 ), and [Fe(TPMA)(XBBIM)](ClO4)2 ?0.75CH3OH ( 3 ), were prepared by reactions of FeII perchlorate and the corresponding ligands (TPMA=tris(2‐pyridylmethyl)amine, BIM=2,2′‐biimidazole, XBIM=1,1′‐(α,α′‐o‐xylyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole, XBBIM=1,1′‐(α,α′‐o‐xylyl)‐2,2′‐bibenzimidazole). The compounds were investigated by a combination of X‐ray crystallography, magnetic and photomagnetic measurements, and Mössbauer and optical absorption spectroscopy. Complex 1 exhibits a gradual spin crossover (SCO) with T1/2=190 K, whereas 2 exhibits an abrupt SCO with approximately 7 K thermal hysteresis (T1/2=196 K on cooling and 203 K on heating). Complex 3 is in the high‐spin state in the 2–300 K range. The difference in the magnetic behavior was traced to differences between the inter‐ and intramolecular interactions in 1 and 2 . The crystal packing of 2 features a hierarchy of intermolecular interactions that result in increased cooperativity and abruptness of the spin transition. In 3 , steric repulsion between H atoms of one of the pyridyl substituents of TPMA and one of the benzene rings of XBBIM results in a strong distortion of the FeII coordination environment, which stabilizes the high‐spin state of the complex. Both 1 and 2 exhibit a photoinduced low‐spin to high‐spin transition (LIESST effect) at 5 K. The difference in the character of intermolecular interactions of 1 and 2 also manifests in the kinetics of the decay of the photoinduced high‐spin state. For 1 , the decay rate constant follows the single‐exponential law, whereas for 2 it is a stretched exponential, reflecting the hierarchical nature of intermolecular contacts. The structural parameters of the photoinduced high‐spin state at 50 K are similar to those determined for the high‐spin state at 295 K. This study shows that N‐alkylation of BIM has a negligible effect on the ligand field strength. Therefore, the combination of TPMA and BIM offers a promising ligand platform for the design of functionalized SCO complexes.  相似文献

Metal‐ion accumulation on protein surfaces is a crucial step in the initiation of small‐metal clusters and the formation of inorganic materials in nature. This event is expected to control the nucleation, growth, and position of the materials. There remain many unknowns, as to how proteins affect the initial process at the atomic level, although multistep assembly processes of the materials formation by both native and model systems have been clarified at the macroscopic level. Herein the cooperative effects of amino acids and hydrogen bonds promoting metal accumulation reactions are clarified by using porous hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) crystals containing RhIII ions, as model protein surfaces for the reactions. The experimental results reveal noteworthy implications for initiation of metal accumulation, which involve highly cooperative dynamics of amino acids and hydrogen bonds: i) Disruption of hydrogen bonds can induce conformational changes of amino‐acid residues to capture RhIII ions. ii) Water molecules pre‐organized by hydrogen bonds can stabilize RhIII coordination as aqua ligands. iii) Water molecules participating in hydrogen bonds with amino‐acid residues can be replaced by RhIII ions to form polynuclear structures with the residues. iv) RhIII aqua complexes are retained on amino‐acid residues through stabilizing hydrogen bonds even at low pH (≈2). These metal–protein interactions including hydrogen bonds may promote native metal accumulation reactions and also may be useful in the preparation of new inorganic materials that incorporate proteins.  相似文献

Polymeric one‐dimensional (1D) triazole‐based FeII spin crossover nanoparticles have been entrapped in pluronic P123 matrix, forming nanorods in which the interaction between host (P123) and guest (FeII complex) promoted high reproducibility of the spin crossover process, significant shifts of the transition temperatures (T↑=370 K, T↓=338 K for the P123 entrapped material vs the literature values of T↑=358 K, T↓=341 K for the neat/polymer free system) and larger magnetic hysteresis width.  相似文献

Whereas the neat polymeric FeII compound {[Fe(bbtr)3][ClO4]2} (bbtr=1,4‐di(1,2,3‐triazol‐1‐yl)butane) shows an abrupt spin transition centered at 107 K facilitated by a crystallographic symmetry breaking, in the covalently linked 2D coordination network of {[Fe(bbtr)3][BF4]2}, FeII stays in the high‐spin state down to 10 K. However, strong cooperative effects of elastic origin result in reversible, persistent, and wavelength‐selective photoswitching between the low‐spin and high‐spin manifolds. This compound thus shows true light‐induced bistability below 100 K. The persistent bidirectional optical switching behavior is discussed as a function of temperature, irradiation time, and intensity. Crystallographic studies reveal a photoinduced symmetry breaking and serve to establish the correlation between structure and cooperative effects. The static and kinetic behavior is explicated within the framework of the mean‐field approximation.  相似文献

Twelve coordination polymers with formula {Fe(3‐Xpy)2[MII(CN)4]} (MII: Ni, Pd, Pt; X: F, Cl, Br, I; py: pyridine) have been synthesised, and their crystal structures have been determined by single‐crystal or powder X‐ray analysis. All of the fluoro and iodo compounds, as well as the chloro derivative in which MII is Pt, crystallise in the monoclinic C2/m space group, whereas the rest of the chloro and all of the bromo derivatives crystallise in the orthorhombic Pnc2 space group. In all cases, the iron(II) atom resides in a pseudo‐octahedral [FeN6] coordination core, with similar bond lengths and angles in the various derivatives. The major difference between the two kinds of structure arises from the stacking of consecutive two‐dimensional {Fe(3‐Xpy)2[MII(CN)4]} layers, which allows different dispositions of the X atoms. The fluoro and chloro derivatives undergo cooperative spin crossover (SCO) with significant hysteretic behaviour, whereas the rest are paramagnetic. The thermal hysteresis, if X is F, shifts toward room temperature without changing the cooperativity as the pressure increases in the interval 105 Pa–0.5 GPa. At ambient pressure, the SCO phenomenon has been structurally characterised at different significant temperatures, and the corresponding thermodynamic parameters were obtained from DSC calorimetric measurements. Compound {Fe(3‐Clpy)2[Pd(CN)4]} represents a new example of a “re‐entrant” two‐step spin transition by showing the Pnma space group in the intermediate phase (IP) and the Pnc2 space group in the low‐spin (LS) and high‐spin (HS) phases.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of a series of three‐dimensional (3D) Hofmann‐like clathrate porous metal–organic framework (MOF) materials [Fe(bpac)M(CN)4] (M=Pt, Pd, and Ni; bpac=bis(4‐pyridyl)acetylene) that exhibit spin‐crossover behavior is reported. The rigid bpac ligand is longer than the previously used azopyridine and pyrazine and has been selected with the aim to improve both the spin‐crossover properties and the porosity of the corresponding porous coordination polymers (PCPs). The 3D network is composed of successive {Fe[M(CN)4]}n planar layers bridged by the bis‐monodentate bpac ligand linked in the apical positions of the iron center. The large void between the layers, which represents 41.7 % of the unit cell, can accommodate solvent molecules or free bpac ligand. Different synthetic strategies were used to obtain a range of spin‐crossover behaviors with hysteresis loops around room temperature; the samples were characterized by magnetic susceptibility, calorimetric, Mössbauer, and Raman measurements. The complete physical study reveals a clear relationship between the quantity of included bpac molecules and the completeness of the spin transition, thereby underlining the key role of the π–π stacking interactions operating between the host and guest bpac molecules within the network. Although the inclusion of the bpac molecules tends to increase the amount of active iron centers, no variation of the transition temperature was measured. We have also investigated the ability of the network to accommodate the inclusion of molecules other than water and bpac and studied the synergy between the host–guest interaction and the spin‐crossover behavior. In fact, the clathration of various aromatic molecules revealed specific modifications of the transition temperature. Finally, the transition temperature and the completeness of the transition are related to the nature of the metal associated with the iron center (Ni, Pt, or Pd) and also to the nature and the amount of guest molecules in the lattice.  相似文献

Cation‐radicals and dications corresponding to hydrogen atom adducts to N‐terminus‐protonated Nα‐glycylphenylalanine amide (Gly‐Phe‐NH2) are studied by combined density functional theory and Møller‐Plesset perturbational computations (B3‐MP2) as models for electron‐capture dissociation of peptide bonds and elimination of side‐chain groups in gas‐phase peptide ions. Several structures are identified as local energy minima including isomeric aminoketyl cation‐radicals, and hydrogen‐bonded ion‐radicals, and ylid‐cation‐radical complexes. The hydrogen‐bonded complexes are substantially more stable than the classical aminoketyl structures. Dissociations of the peptide N? Cα bonds in aminoketyl cation‐radicals are 18–47 kJ mol?1 exothermic and require low activation energies to produce ion‐radical complexes as stable intermediates. Loss of the side‐chain benzyl group is calculated to be 44 kJ mol?1 endothermic and requires 68 kJ mol?1 activation energy. Rice‐Ramsperger‐Kassel‐Marcus (RRKM) and transition‐state theory (TST) calculations of unimolecular rate constants predict fast preferential N? Cα bond cleavage resulting in isomerization to ion‐molecule complexes, while dissociation of the Cα? CH2C6H5 bond is much slower. Because of the very low activation energies, the peptide bond dissociations are predicted to be fast in peptide cation‐radicals that have thermal (298 K) energies and thus behave ergodically.
