Regularity of multiwavelets   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
The motivation for this paper is an interesting observation made by Plonka concerning the factorization of the matrix symbol associated with the refinement equation for B-splines with equally spaced multiple knots at integers and subsequent developments which relate this factorization to regularity of refinable vector fields over the real line. Our intention is to contribute to this train of ideas which is partially driven by the importance of refinable vector fields in the construction of multiwavelets. The use of subdivision methods will allow us to consider the problem almost entirely in the spatial domain and leads to exact characterizations of differentiability and Hölder regularity in arbitrary L p spaces. We first study the close relationship between vector subdivision schemes and a generalized notion of scalar subdivision schemes based on bi-infinite matrices with certain periodicity properties. For the latter type of subdivision scheme we will derive criteria for convergence and Hölder regularity of the limit function, which mainly depend on the spectral radius of a bi-infinite matrix induced by the subdivision operator, and we will show that differentiability of the limit functions can be characterized by factorization properties of the subdivision operator. By switching back to vector subdivision we will transfer these results to refinable vectors fields and obtain characterizations of regularity by factorization and spectral radius properties of the symbol associated to the refinable vector field. Finally, we point out how multiwavelets can be generated from orthonormal refinable bi-infinite vector fields.  相似文献

On vector subdivision   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
In this paper we give a complete characterization of the convergence of stationary vector subdivision schemes and the regularity of the associated limit function. These results extend and complete our earlier work on vector subdivision and its use in the construction of multiwavelets. Received March 19, 1997; in final form November 13, 1997  相似文献

The present paper deals with subdivision schemes associated with irregular grids. We first give a sufficient condition concerning the difference scheme to obtain convergence. This condition generalizes a necessary and sufficient condition for convergence known in the case of uniform and stationary schemes associated with a regular grid. Through this sufficient condition, convergence of a given subdivision scheme can be proved by comparison with another scheme. Indeed, when two schemes are equivalent in some sense, and when one satisfies the sufficient condition for convergence, the other also satisfies it and it therefore converges too. We also study the smoothness of the limit functions produced by a scheme which satisfies the sufficient condition. Finally, the results are applied to the study of Lagrange interpolating subdivision schemes of any degree, with respect to particular irregular grids.  相似文献

We introduce a family of three-point subdivision schemes related to palindromic pairs of matrices of order 2. We apply the Mößner theorem on palindromic matrices to the C 0 convergence of these subdivision schemes. We study the Hölder regularity of their limit functions. The Hölder exponent which is found in the regular case is sharp for most limit functions. In the singular case, the modulus of continuity of the limit functions is of order δlogδ. These results can be used for studying the C 1 convergence of the Merrien family of Hermite subdivision schemes.  相似文献

A multiresolution analysis of a curve is normal if each wavelet detail vector with respect to a certain subdivision scheme lies in the local normal direction. In this paper we study properties such as regularity, convergence, and stability of a normal multiresolution analysis. In particular, we show that these properties critically depend on the underlying subdivision scheme and that, in general, the convergence of normal multiresolution approximations equals the convergence of the underlying subdivision scheme.  相似文献

The paper develops a necessary condition for the regularity of a multivariate refinable function in terms of a factorization property of the associated subdivision mask. The extension to arbitrary isotropic dilation matrices necessitates the introduction of the concepts of restricted and renormalized convergence of a subdivision scheme as well as the notion of subconvergence, i.e., the convergence of only a subsequence of the iterations of the subdivision scheme. Since, in addition, factorization methods pass even from scalar to matrix valued refinable functions, those results have to be formulated in terms of matrix refinable functions or vector subdivision schemes, respectively, in order to be suitable for iterated application. Moreover, it is shown for a particular case that the the condition is not only a necessary but also a sufficient one. Dedicated to Charles A. In this paper a new class of nonstationary subdivision schemes is proposed to construct functions having all the main properties of B-splines, namely compact support, central symmetry and total positivity. We show that the constructed nonstationary subdivision schemes are asympotically equivalent to the stationary subdivision scheme associated with a B-spline of suitable degree, but the resulting limit function has smaller support than the B-spline although keeping its regularity.  相似文献

Hermite subdivision schemes have been studied by Merrien, Dyn, and Levin and they appear to be very different from subdivision schemes analyzed before since the rules depend on the subdivision level. As suggested by Dyn and Levin, it is possible to transform the initial scheme into a uniform stationary vector subdivision scheme which can be handled more easily. With this transformation, the study of convergence of Hermite subdivision schemes is reduced to that of vector stationary subdivision schemes. We propose a first criterion for C0-convergence for a large class of vector subdivision schemes. This gives a criterion for C1-convergence of Hermite subdivision schemes. It can be noticed that these schemes do not have to be interpolatory. We conclude by investigating spectral properties of Hermite schemes and other necessary/sufficient conditions of convergence.  相似文献

The four-point interpolatory subdivision scheme of Dubuc and its generalizations to irregularly spaced data studied by Warren and by Daubechies, Guskov, and Sweldens are based on fitting cubic polynomials locally. In this paper, we analyze the convergence of the scheme by viewing the limit function as the limit of piecewise cubic functions arising from the scheme. This allows us to recover the regularity results of Daubechies et al. in a simpler way and to obtain the approximation order of the scheme and its first derivative.  相似文献

In this paper we develop tools for the analysis of net subdivision schemes, schemes which recursively refine nets of bivariate continuous functions defined on grids of lines, and generate denser and denser nets. Sufficient conditions for the convergence of such a sequence of refined nets, and for the smoothness of the limit function, are derived in terms of proximity to a bivariate linear subdivision scheme refining points, under conditions controlling some aspects of the univariate functions of the generated nets. Approximation orders of net subdivision schemes, which are in proximity with positive schemes refining points are also derived. The paper concludes with the construction of a family of blending spline-type net subdivision schemes, and with their analysis by the tools presented in the paper. This family is a new example of net subdivision schemes generating C1 limits with approximation order 2.  相似文献

A generic technique for the construction of diversity of interpolatory subdivision schemes on the base of polynomial and discrete splines is presented in the paper. The devised schemes have rational symbols and infinite masks but they are competitive (regularity, speed of convergence, computational complexity) with the schemes that have finite masks. We prove exponential decay of basic limit functions of the schemes with rational symbols and establish conditions, which guaranty the convergence of such schemes on initial data of power growth. Vector and Hermite subdivision schemes both act on vector data, but since the latter one interprets the vectors as function values and consecutive derivatives they differ by the “renormalization” of the Hermite scheme in any step. In this paper we give an algebraic factorization method in one and several variables to relate any Hermite subdivision scheme that satisfies the so–called spectral condition to a vector subdivision scheme. These factorizations are natural extensions of the “zero at π” condition known for the masks of refinable functions. Moreover, we show how this factorization can be used to investigate different forms of convergence of the Hermite scheme and why the multivariate situation is conceptionally more intricate than the univariate one. Finally, we give some examples of such factorizations.  相似文献

In this paper we begin to explore a new method of analyzing the regularity of Hermite subdivision schemes that are defined from local polynomial interpolants. The idea of the method is to view the limit of the scheme as the limit of splines formed by these local interpolants rather than as the limit of polygons. We demonstrate the success of the method by obtaining the precise Hölder regularity of the simple, but non-trivial scheme in which the data are uniformly spaced and the refinement rule is defined by quintic interpolation of four values and two derivatives.  相似文献

We investigate full rank interpolatory vector subdivision schemes whose masks are positive definite on the unit circle except the point z=1. Such masks are known to give rise to convergent schemes with a cardinal limit function in the scalar case. In the full rank vector case, we show that there also exists a cardinal refinable function based on this mask, however, with respect to a different notion of refinability which nevertheless also leads to an iterative scheme for the computation of vector fields. Moreover, we show the existence of orthogonal scaling functions for multichannel wavelets and give a constructive method to obtain these scaling functions. The present article deals with convergence and smoothness analysis of geometric, nonlinear subdivision schemes in the presence of extraordinary points. We discuss when the existence of a proximity condition between a linear scheme and its nonlinear analogue implies convergence of the nonlinear scheme (for dense enough input data). Furthermore, we obtain C 1 smoothness of the nonlinear limit function in the vicinity of an extraordinary point over Reif’s characteristic parametrization. The results apply to the geometric analogues of well-known subdivision schemes such as Doo–Sabin or Catmull–Clark schemes.  相似文献

Subdivision defines a smooth curve or surface as the limit of a sequence of successive refinements based on initial control polygon or grid.Usually the curve refinements is the basis of the corresponding surface rules. In this paper we analyze previous subdivision scheme according to theories about convergence of N.Dyn and M.F Hassan. In terms of binary and ternary subdivision schemes general construction about curve‘s refinements are studied. Two approximating curve subdivision schemes with neighboring four control points are derived, the generating limit curves can both reach the smoothness of C^1 over the initial polygon using the two schemes and the tolerances of them are given according to the method of [7].  相似文献

In the recent literature on subdivision methods for approximation of manifold-valued data, a certain “proximity condition” comparing a nonlinear subdivision scheme to a linear subdivision scheme has proved to be a key analytic tool for analyzing regularity properties of the scheme. This proximity condition is now well known to be a sufficient condition for the nonlinear scheme to inherit the regularity of the corresponding linear scheme (this is called smoothness equivalence). Necessity, however, has remained an open problem. This paper introduces a smooth compatibility condition together with a new proximity condition (the differential proximity condition). The smooth compatibility condition makes precise the relation between nonlinear and linear subdivision schemes. It is shown that under the smooth compatibility condition, the differential proximity condition is both necessary and sufficient for smoothness equivalence. It is shown that the failure of the proximity condition corresponds to the presence of resonance terms in a certain discrete dynamical system derived from the nonlinear scheme. Such resonance terms are then shown to slow down the convergence rate relative to the convergence rate of the corresponding linear scheme. Finally, a super-convergence property of nonlinear subdivision schemes is used to conclude that the slowed decay causes a breakdown of smoothness. The proof of sufficiency relies on certain properties of the Taylor expansion of nonlinear subdivision schemes, which, in addition, explain why the differential proximity condition implies the proximity conditions that appear in previous work.  相似文献

Bivariate interpolatory Hermite subdivision schemes have recently been applied to build free-form subdivision surfaces. It is well known to geometric modelling practitioners that interpolatory schemes typically lead to ``unfair" surfaces--surfaces with unwanted wiggles or undulations--and noninterpolatory (a.k.a. approximating in the CAGD community) schemes are much preferred in geometric modelling applications. In this article, we introduce, analyze and construct noninterpolatory Hermite subdivision schemes, a class of vector subdivision schemes which can be applied to iteratively refine Hermite data in a not necessarily interpolatory fashion. We also study symmetry properties of such subdivision schemes which are crucial for application in free-form subdivision surfaces.

A key step in our mathematical analysis of Hermite type subdivision schemes is that we make use of the strong convergence theory of refinement equations to convert a prescribed geometric condition on the subdivision scheme--namely, the subdivision scheme is of Hermite type--to an algebraic condition on the subdivision mask. The latter algebraic condition can then be used in a computational framework to construct specific schemes.

We extend our previous work on interpolatory vector subdivision schemes to the multivariate case. As in the univariate case we show that the diagonal and off-diagonal elements of such a scheme have a significantly different structure and that under certain circumstances symmetry of the mask can increase the polynomial reproduction power of the subdivision scheme. Moreover, we briefly point out how tensor product constructions for vector subdivision schemes can be obtained.  相似文献
