The design of photoswitchable transition metal complexes with tailored properties is one of the most important challenges in chemistry. Studies explaining the underlying mechanisms are, however, scarce. Herein, the early relaxation dynamics towards NO photoisomerization in trans-[RuCl(NO)(py)4]2+ is elucidated by means of non-adiabatic dynamics, which provided time-resolved information and branching ratios. Three deactivation mechanisms (I, II, III) in the ratio 3:2:4 were identified. Pathways I and III involve ultrafast intersystem crossing and internal conversion, whereas pathway II involves only internal conversion.  相似文献

The reaction of the cluster salts [Cp(2*) Nb(CO)(2)](n)[Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(10)] (Cp*=C(5)Me(5); n=1, 2) with excess PMe(2)Ph gave the neutral, dark brown clusters [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(6)(PMe(2)Ph)(4)] (5) and [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(5)(PMe(2)Ph)(5)] (6) with 147 metal valence electrons. The new compounds were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and mass spectrometry. The molecular structure of 6 was determined by X-ray crystallography. Like its precursor anion, it consists of a pentagonal-prismatic [Co(11)Te(7)] core, but with a ligand sphere composed of five CO and five PMe(2)Ph ligands. Detailed electrochemical studies of both reactions reveal that a stepwise substitution of CO ligands in the initial cluster anions takes place leading to intermediate [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(10-m)(PMe(2)Ph)(m)](n-) ions (m=1-5; n=1, 2). Each of these intermediates is distinguished by at least one oxidation and two reduction waves, giving rise to a total of 21 redox couples and 27 electroactive species. The electron sponge character of the new compounds is particularly pronounced in 5, which exhibits charges n between +1 and -4 corresponding to metal valence electron counts of between 146 and 151.  相似文献

The new tris(perfluoroalkyl)borane carbonyls, (C2F5)3BCO and (C3F7)3BCO, were prepared by means of a novel synthetic route using commercially available precursors by reacting K[(C2F5)3BCOOH] and K[(C3F7)3BCOOH] with concentrated sulfuric acid in the last step. The carboxylic acids, K[(C2F5)3BCOOH] and K[(C3F7)3BCOOH], were prepared by oxidative cleavage of the C?C triple bonds in Cs[(C2F5)3BC?CPh] and Cs[(C3F7)3BC?CPh] in a two‐step process to yield K[(C2F5)3BCO? COPh] and K[(C3F7)3BCO? COPh] as isolable intermediates. Crystal structures were obtained of K[(C2F5)3BCO? COPh], K[(C2F5)3BCOOH] ? H2O, (C2F5)3BCO, K[(C3F7)3BCOOH] ? 2 H2O, and (C3F7)3BCO. In the crystal structures of (C2F5)3BCO and (C3F7)3BCO the C?O bond lengths are 1.109(2) and 1.103(5) Å, respectively, which are among the shortest observed to date. Tris(pentafluoroethyl)borane carbonyl and (C3F7)3BCO slowly decompose at room temperature to yield CO, difluoroperfluoroalkylboranes and perfluoroalkenes. The decomposition of (C2F5)3BCO was found to follow a first‐order rate law with Ea=107 kJ mol?1.  相似文献

The reactions of group 14 tetrachlorides MCl4 (M=Si, Ge, Sn) with oleum (65 % SO3) at elevated temperatures lead to the unique complex ions [M(S2O7)3]2?, which show the central M atoms in coordination with three chelating S2O72? groups. The mean distances M? O within the anions increase from 175.6(2)–177.5(2) pm (M=Si) to 186.4(4)–187.7(4) pm (M=Ge) to 201.9(2)–203.5(2) pm (M=Sn). These distances are reproduced well by DFT calculations. The same calculations show an increasing positive charge for the central M atom in the row Si, Ge, Sn, which can be interpreted as the decreasing covalency of the M? O bonds. For the silicon compound (NH4)2[Si(S2O7)3], 29Si solid‐state NMR measurements have been performed, with the results showing a signal at ?215.5 ppm for (NH4)2[Si(S2O7)3], which is in very good agreement with theoretical estimations. In addition, the vibrational modes within the [MO6] skeleton have been monitored by Raman spectroscopy for selected examples, and are well reproduced by theory. The charge balance for the [M(S2O7)3]2? ions is achieved by monovalent A+ counter ions (A=NH4, Ag), which are implemented in the syntheses in the form of their sulfates. The sizes of the A+ ions, that is, their coordination requirements, cause the crystallographic differences in the crystal structures, although the complex [M(S2O7)3]2? ions remain essentially unaffected with the different A+ ions. Furthermore, the nature of the A+ ions influences the thermal behavior of the compounds, which has been monitored for selected examples by thermogravimetric differential thermal analysis (DTA/TG) and XRD measurements.  相似文献

A high-spin Co(II) cluster with a rare pentagonal molecular structure and formula [Co(5)(CO(3))(2)(bpp)(5)]ClO(4) (1; Hbpp is 2,6-bis(phenyliminomethyl)-4-methylphenolate) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This topology arises from fusing five [Co(2)(bpp)] moieties in a cyclic manner around two CO(3)(2-) central ligands, resulting in propeller-like configuration. The irregular coordination of the carbonate ions to the metal centers results in a combination of coordination numbers (CNs) of the Co(II) ions of five and six. The bulk magnetization of this complicated magnetically exchanged system has been modeled successfully by employing a matrix diagonalization technique. For this, the combination of S=3/2 ions (CN=5) with ions exhibiting strong spin-orbit coupling (CN=6) has been considered and a perturbative approach to handle the data in the whole studied range of temperatures (2-300 K) yielding parameters of g and D (for the five-coordinate Co(II) ions), of A, κ, λ, and Δ (for the metals with spin-orbit coupling) and of the exchange constants J. The agreement with results from DFT calculations, also presented here, is remarkable.  相似文献

The neutral, monocationic, and dicationic linear trinuclear ruthenium compounds [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)][BF(4)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)], and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)](2) (dpa=the anion of dipyridylamine) have been synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. Cyclic voltammetric and spectroelectrochemical studies on the neutral and oxidized compounds are reported. These compounds undergo three successive metal-centered one-electron-transfer processes. X-ray structural studies reveal a symmetrical Ru(3) unit for these compounds. While the metal--metal bond lengths change only slightly, the metal--axial ligand lengths exhibit a significant decrease upon oxidation of the neutral complex. The electronic configuration of the Ru(3) unit changes as the axial chloride ligands are replaced by the stronger "pi-acid" cyanide axial ligands. Magnetic measurements and (1)H NMR spectra indicate that [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)] and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)](2) are in a spin state of S=0 and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)], and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)][BF(4)] are in spin states of S=1/2, 1, and 3/2, respectively. These results are consistent with molecular orbital (MO) calculations.  相似文献

The iron dithiolene compounds [Fe2(mnt)4]2− [1]2− and [Fe(NO)(mnt)2]n (n = 1−, [2]1−; n = 2−, [2]2−) ([mnt]2− = maleonitriledithiolate = [(NC)2C2S2]2−) have been characterized structurally by X-ray diffraction as their [Et4N]+ salts at 100 K. Dianion [2]2− is prepared from [2]1− by reduction with Na[Et3BH] and is observed to have a bent Fe-NO angle at 149.9(5)° in contrast to the linear configuration of Fe-NO in [2]1− (180.0°). The change from linear to bent binding mode for NO, an increase of more than 0.1 Å in the Fe-N bond length, and the relative invariance of the Fe-S distances for [2]2− versus [2]1− indicate that the NO ligand is the site of reduction. The [Et3NH]+ complex of [2]1− was also identified by crystallography and found to have hydrogen bonding contacts between [Et3NH]+ and the cyano nitrogen atom of an [mnt]2− ligand. Furthermore, relatively close S?S contacts (3.602-3.615 Å) occur between [2]1− anions, which pack together in an offset, head-to-head fashion. These S?S contacts are absent in the structure of [Et4N][2]. Infrared spectra show an energy decrease for, and a significant broadening of, the NO bond stretching absorption peak in [2]2−, which is consistent with a bent NO ligand sampling a range of conformations both by facile pivoting about the Fe-N axis and by a breathing of the Fe-NO angle.  相似文献

Catalytic carboxylation reactions that use CO(2) as a C1 building block are still among the 'dream reactions' of molecular catalysis. To obtain a deeper insight into the factors that control the fundamental steps of potential catalytic cycles, we performed a detailed computational study of the insertion reaction of CO(2) into rhodium-alkyl bonds. The minima and transition-state geometries for 38 pincer-type complexes were characterized and the according energies for the C-C bond-forming step were determined. The electronic properties of the Rh-alkyl bond were found to be more important for the magnitude of the activation barrier than the interaction between rhodium and CO(2). The charge of the alkyl-chain carbon atom, as well as agostic and orbital interactions with the rhodium, exhibit the most pronounced influence on the energy of the transition states for the CO(2) insertion reaction. By varying the backbone and the donor groups of the pincer ligand those properties can be tuned over a very broad range. Thus, it is possible to match the electronic and steric properties with the fundamental requirements of the CO(2) insertion into rhodium-alkyl bonds of the ligand framework.  相似文献

The trans-cis isomerization of the styrylpyridine carbon-carbon double bond induced by visible light irradiation in fac-[Re(CO)(3)(bpy)(stpy)](+) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine; stpy = t-4-styrylpyridine) has been investigated by means of quantum-chemical methods. The structures of the various cis and trans conformers of [Re(CO)(3)(bpy)(stpy)](+) have been optimized at the density functional theory (DFT) level. Three rotational conformers for the most stable trans isomer lie within 2.3 kJ mol(-1) each other. The energy difference between the cis and trans isomers is 27.0 kJ mol(-1). The electronic spectroscopy of the most stable conformers has been investigated by time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) and complete active space self-consistent field/CAS second order perturbation theory (CASSCF/CASPT2) calculations. The lowest absorption bands are dominated by metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT, d(Re)-->pi*(bpy)) transitions calculated at about 25,000 cm(-1) and by a strong intraligand (1)IL (pi(stpy)-->pi*(stpy)) transition in the near UV region. On the basis of CASSCF potential energy curves (PECs) calculated as a function of the torsion angle of the C=C bond of the styrylpyridine ligand, it is shown that the role of the low-lying MLCT states is important in the photoisomerization mechanism. In contrast to the free organic ligand, in which the singlet mechanism is operational via the (1)IL (S(1)) and electronic ground (S(0)) states, coordination to the rhenium steers the isomerization to the triplet PEC corresponding to the (3)IL state. From the (3)IL(t) (t = trans) the system evolves to the perpendicular intermediate (3)IL(p) (p = perpendicular) following a 90 degrees rotation around the styrylpyridine C=C bond. The metal center acts as a photosensitizer because of the presence of photoactive MLCT states under visible irradiation. The position of the crossing between the (3)IL and electronic ground state PEC determines the quantum yield of the isomerization process.  相似文献

Reaction mechanisms for the interactions between CeO(2)(111) and (110) surfaces are investigated using periodic density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Both standard DFT and DFT+U calculations to examine the effect of the localization of Ce 4f states on the redox chemistry of H(2)-CeO(2) interactions are described. For mechanistic studies, molecular and dissociative local minima are initially located by placing an H(2) molecule at various active sites of the CeO(2) surfaces. The binding energies of physisorbed species optimized using the DFT and DFT+U methods are very weak. The dissociative adsorption reactions producing hydroxylated surfaces are all exothermic; exothermicities at the DFT level range from 4.1 kcal mol(-1) for the (111) to 26.5 kcal mol(-1) for the (110) surface, while those at the DFT+U level are between 65.0 kcal mol(-1) for the (111) and 81.8 kcal mol(-1) for the (110) surface. Predicted vibrational frequencies of adsorbed OH and H(2)O species on the surfaces are in line with available experimental and theoretical results. Potential energy profiles are constructed by connecting molecularly adsorbed and dissociatively adsorbed intermediates on each CeO(2) surface with tight transition states using the nudged elastic band (NEB) method. It is found that the U correction method plays a significant role in energetics, especially for the intermediates of the exit channels and products that are partially reduced. The surface reduction reaction on CeO(2)(110) is energetically much more favorable. Accordingly, oxygen vacancies are more easily formed on the (110) surface than on the (111) surface.  相似文献

A density functional study at the BP86/AE1 level is presented for the cobalt bis(dicarbollide) ion [3-Co-(1,2-C2B9H11)2]- (1) and selected isomers and rotamers thereof. Rotation of the two dicarbollide moieties with respect to each other is facile, as judged by the small energetic separation of the three rotamers located (within 11 kJ mol(-1)) and by the low barriers for their interconversion (at most 41 kJ mol(-1)). Among the isomers differing in carbon atom positions that contain two equivalent dicarbollide ligands, the 1,7 ("carbon apart") form [2-Co-(1,7-C2B9H11)2]- is the most stable, 121 kJ mol(-1) below 1. The electronic structure of 1 is characterized in terms of molecular orbitals, population analysis, and excitation energies from time-dependent density functional theory, relevant to UV/Vis spectroscopy. Experimental 11B NMR chemical shifts of 1 are reproduced to better than 5 ppm at the GIAO-B3LYP/II' level, and the computed delta(11B) values are only little affected by rotational averaging or the presence of a polarizable continuum. Larger such effects are found for the as-yet unknown 59Co chemical shift, for which a value in the range between -1800 and -2400 ppm is predicted. Even though the accuracy achieved for the theoretical delta(11B) values is somewhat lower than that for heteroboranes at conventional ab initio levels, the level of density functional employed can afford qualitatively reliable chemical shifts, which can be useful in assignments and structural refinements of heteroboranes containing transition metal.  相似文献

In this article we analyze in detail the electronic properties of the D(3h)-symmetric tris(ethylene) complexes of nickel, palladium, and platinum ([M(C(2)H(4))(3)] M=Ni, Pd, Pt). In the case of [Pd(C(2)H(4))(3)] the analysis is based on new experimental IR and Raman spectra for the matrix-isolated molecules and in all cases on the results of quantum-chemical (DFT) calculations. The experimental spectra collected for [Pd(C(2)H(4))(3)] provide evidence for several previously unobserved vibrational modes, including the in-phase and out-of-phase nu(C-C) and delta(CH(2)) modes, and the in-phase nu(M-C) mode. Special consideration is given to possible inter-ligand interactions. The interaction force constant f(CC,CC) between two C(2)H(4) ligands can be directly estimated from the spectra, and its very small value (0.002 N m(-1)) indicates the absence of any significant inter-ligand interaction. An analysis of the topology of the theoretical electron density distribution, rho(r), and the corresponding Laplacian, nabla(2)rho(r), for [Pd(C(2)H(4))(3)] and its lighter and heavier homologues [Ni(C(2)H(4))(3)] and [Pt(C(2)H(4))(3)], respectively, is in full agreement with the conclusions drawn from the experimental results. The combined experimental and quantum-chemical results provide detailed insights in the electronic properties of these prototypical ethylene complexes.  相似文献
