Recently, artificial photonic structures that exhibit nontrivial topological properties have attracted growing attention due to their capability of achieving one‐way backscatter immune transport of light. While photonic crystals are predominantly employed for achieving nontrivial topologies, effective medium approach based on metamaterials has been recently proposed for realizing topologically protected unidirectional surface states. In this article, a microscopic model to investigate the transmission of topological metamaterial grating is constructed based on the scattering processes involving unidirectional surface states. The numerically simulated transmission efficiency of the grating can be precisely reproduced by the model. The model demonstrates that the sharp transmission resonance of the grating results from the constructive interference of the topologically protected one‐way surface states. The present work provides an intuitive picture for understanding the scattering processes and resonance behaviors of the topologically protected one‐way surface states. Benefitting from the sharp spectral features of the supported resonances, the proposed grating structure may be potentially used for sensing applications.  相似文献

通过选取具有特殊能带结构的半导体材料碲镉汞(Hg1-xCdxTe), 类比电磁体系得到了电子体系中的类单负材料、类双负材料等类特异材料, 然后将其组合成一维复合异质结构. 通过数值计算, 发现复合结构中存在新型电子Tamm态, 包括返向电子Tamm态和含类近零折射率材料复合结构中的电子Tamm态. 这些结果拓展了人们对电子Tamm态的认识.  相似文献

Weyl points, which are the degenerate points in three-dimensional momentum space, have been widely studied in the photonic system, and show some intriguing phenomena such as topologically protected surface states and chiral anomalies. Type-I Weyl systems possess a complete bandgap, and topologically protected surface states can be excited without disturbing the bulk states.In this work, we investigate the influence of the sign of coupling coefficient on the topological property of the system and find that type-I Weyl points can be realized by introducing a negative coupling between the stacking layers of the designed photonic crystal. We propose a new strategy to construct a type-I Weyl system by stacking the hexagonal photonic lattice. Different from the topological nontrivial photonic system with a positive coefficient, the negative couplings in the photonic system are realized by adding another resonating site between stacking layers. We theoretically demonstrate that the effective coupling between the resonating sites in adjacent layers sign-flips through the judicious design of the nearest coupling strength and eigenfrequency of the additional sites. The surface states at opposite boundaries of the proposed system have opposite group velocities, which is the feature of type-I Weyl points. Our study provides a new method of exploring topologically protected photonic systems and developing possible topological devices.  相似文献

Fourier transform scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) on Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+ δ (BSCCO) subgap resonances has deciphered an octet of ‘quasiparticle’ states that are consistent with the Fermi surface and energy gap observed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), but the origin of the high-intensity k-space octets and the sharply defined r-space chequerboard is unexplained. The filamentary ferroelastic nanodomain model that predicted the r-space chequerboard also explains the k-space octets and the origin of the apparent anisotropic surface d-wave gap by using strong electron–phonon interactions outside the CuO2 planes. The topological model identifies the factors that stabilize high-intensity k-space octets in the presence of a very high level of irregular r-space chequerboard noise.  相似文献

声子晶体的Dirac线性色散关系,使其具有奇特的声拓扑特性,在声波控制领域具有良好的应用前景.目前,声子晶体的拓扑边缘态主要基于Bragg散射所产生的能带结构,难以实现低频声波的受拓扑保护单向边缘传输.本文引入空间盘绕结构,设计了具有C_(3v)对称性的空间盘绕型声学超材料,并研究其布里渊区高对称点(K/K'点)的亚波长Dirac锥形线性色散.接着,通过旋转打破空间盘绕型声学超材料的镜像对称性,使其Dirac简并锥裂开而产生亚波长拓扑相变和亚波长拓扑谷自旋态.最后,采用拓扑相位互逆的声学超材料构造拓扑界面,实现声拓扑谷自旋传输.空间盘绕型声学超材料的亚波长Dirac线性色散与亚波长拓扑谷自旋态突破了声子拓扑绝缘体的几何尺寸限制,为声拓扑稳健传输在低频段的应用提供理论基础.  相似文献

The electronic states in a weak, spatially correlated disordered potential are investigated using a translationally invariant formalism within a tight binding model. The effect of the disorder is mapped intok-space. The influence of the statistical correlation on the density of states and their localization properties is studied in the one-dimensional limit. It is shown that clustering supports tail states while the middle of the band is strongly affected by rapidly alternating configurations.  相似文献

结合均匀光子晶格的衍射关系和晶格中正负缺陷的布里渊区谱特性,探讨了光诱导二维光子晶格中线性缺陷模式的形成条件,对布里渊区中各点的缺陷模式进行了模拟分析,并得到了光子带隙结构中“嵌入点”X1点的正、负缺陷模式.结果表明:对于二维缺陷,只有当衍射关系曲面中沿两个正交的横向波矢方向同时为正常(反常)衍射的区域才能存在正(负)缺陷模式;而对于一维缺陷,只要在一个横向波矢方向上存在正常(反常)衍射的区域就可以支持正(负)缺陷模式,因此在某些特殊点处,正和负的缺陷模式可以同时存在.X1点正缺陷模式的存在预示着自聚焦非线性同样可以支持带内孤子.研究结果有助于对光子晶格中晶格孤子(特别是带内孤子)的理解和进一步研究. 关键词: 光诱导光子晶格 光子带隙 线性缺陷态  相似文献

The near field heat transfer between two finite size one-dimensional photonic crystals separated by a small vacuum gap and maintained in nonequilibrium thermal situation is theoretically investigated. The main features of this electromagnetic transfer are discussed and compared with what is generally observed with media that support surface polaritons. It is shown that the presence of surface Bloch waves can significantly enhance heat transfers beyond the far field limit for both polarization states of electromagnetic field at subwavelength separation distances. A specific attention is addressed to the consequence of the slopes of surface Bloch waves dispersion curves on the heat transfer. In particular, it is shown that the localization of surface Bloch waves close to the light line allows to observe a transfer exaltaion at larger separation distances than the Wien wavelength. These results could open new possibilities for the development of innovative near-field technologies such as near-field thermophotovoltaic conversion, plasmon assisted nanophotolitography or near-field spectroscopy.  相似文献

本文对具有类EIR色散特性的平面金属等离激元美特材料(planar plasmonic metamaterials, PPM)对光学Tamm态及相关激射行为的增强作用进行了研究. 我们首先运用传输矩阵方法分析了利用PPM结构的色散来增强光学Tamm态对应模式电磁局域密度的可能性. 其次, 我们将具有类EIR特性的PPM与一维光子晶体(photonic crystal, PC)合在一起设计了一种平面等离激元美特材料-光子晶体(PPM-PC)异质结构. 研究发现, 通过在电磁局域密度最高的PPM结构中(或附近)加入增益介质, 可观察到比通常光学Tamm态更强的激射增强效应及更明显的单色性响应. 这些特性使得这种PPM-PC结构有望被应用于低阈值激光器、荧光增强等方面.  相似文献

The effect of anisotropy on the photonic band structure and surface polaritons of a one-dimensional photonic crystal made of uniaxially anisotropic epsilon-negative (ε<0,μ>0) and mu-negative (ε>0,μ<0) metamaterials is theoretically investigated. Two different cases of uniaxially anisotropic epsilon-negative and mu-negative metamaterials are considered. It is found out that for one case of anisotropy, one-dimensional photonic crystal does not have any single-negative band gap. As a result, it can not support the surface polaritons. While, for another case, the structure shows single-negative band gaps. So, the surface polaritons can be excited at the interface of such a photonic crystal. However, these surface polaritons, unlike the isotropic case, are not omnidirectional and they are restricted to a limited rang of the propagation constant.  相似文献

We report strong near-field electromagnetic localization by using subwavelength apertures and metamaterials that operate at microwave frequencies. We designed split ring resonators with distinct configurations in order to obtain extraordinary transmission results. Furthermore, we analyzed the field localization and focusing characteristics of the transmitted evanescent waves. The employed metamaterial configurations yielded an improvement on the transmission efficiency on the order of 27 dB and 50 dB for the deep subwavelength apertures. The metamaterial loaded apertures are considered as a total system that offered spot size conversion ratios as high as 7.12 and 9.11 for the corresponding metamaterial configurations. The proposed system is shown to intensify the electric fields of the source located in the near-field. It also narrows down the electromagnetic waves such that a full width at half maximum value of λ/29 is obtained.  相似文献

The concept of frustrated phase separation is applied to investigate its consequences for the electronic structure of the high T c cuprates. The resulting incommensurate charge density wave (CDW) scattering is most effective in creating local gaps in k-space when the scattering vector connects states with equal energy. Starting from an open Fermi surface we find that the resulting CDW is oriented along the (10)- and (or) (01)-direction which allows for a purely one-dimensional or a two-dimensional “eggbox type” charge modulation. In both cases the van Hove singularities are substantially enhanced, and the spectral weight of Fermi surface states near the M-points, tends to be suppressed. Remarkably, a leading edge gap arises near these points, which, in the eggbox case, leaves finite arcs of the Fermi surface gapless. We discuss our results with repect to possible consequences for photoemission experiments. Received 14 June 1999  相似文献

We investigate the topologically protected sound propagation in sonic metamaterials, analogous to quantum spin hall effect (QSHE). The sonic metamaterials consist of circular rods and meta-molecules arranged in air with a honeycomb-lattice. The on-demand inversion in topological phase can be achieved by two ways of scatterer controls at locally resonant frequency and Bragg frequency. The Helmholtz resonators in the structure are contributed to the formation of subwavelength double Dirac cones which are more likely to appear due to local resonance enhancement with more number of resonators. By combining two sonic metamaterials with different topological invariants, we demonstrate the robust sound propagation and pseudospin-dependent one-way acoustic propagation at the interface. Experimental measurement of the topologically protected acoustic wave transmission matches well with the simulation result.  相似文献

Strong coupling is demonstrated in monolithic ZnSe-based microcavities. Under nonresonant excitation the polariton dispersion has been investigated in dependence on the photon-exciton detuning for different excitation densities at low temperatures. For zero detuning indications of a polariton lasing threshold are observed like a k-space and energy dispersion narrowing of the lower polariton branch with increasing excitation density. Furthermore, it is observed that this effect is hampered for measurements at negative detunings as a result of the less effective polariton relaxation to the ground state. Latter results in the formation of a discrete polariton distribution at finite k values as known for the polariton bottleneck. In order to investigate the influence of a three-dimensional optical confinement on the polariton relaxation, pillar structured microcavities were fabricated. The formation of discrete polariton states in the k-space distribution is observed. Furthermore, indications for a softening of the k-conservation arising from the structural confinement are found leading to a more effective polariton relaxation. This process would be beneficial for the realization of efficient polariton lasing processes.  相似文献

We propose two-dimensional reconfigurable phononic crystal slabs that support topologically protected edge states for Lamb waves. It consists of a triangular lattice of triangular-like air holes perforated in a slab and two sandwich cylinders are placed in the matrix of each unit cell. The pseudospin–orbit coupling is achieved by shifting the sandwich cylinders up or down. The robust transport of Lamb waves along reconfigurable interfaces is further demonstrated. The dynamically reconfigurable design provides an excellent platform for tuning the frequency range of topological edge states and steering efficient transport of Lamb waves along arbitrary pathways, which can be employed for elastic-wave communications, signal processing, and sensing.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the electromagnetic surface waves localized at the interface of the homogeneous dielectric medium and a semi-infinite one-dimensional photonic crystal (1D PC), theoretically. The semi-infinite 1D PC is made of alternative layers of left-handed (LH) and right-handed (RH) materials in the presence of a thin nonlinear cap layer. We consider magnetic permeability and electric permittivity of LH layers being dispersive and non-dispersive. We used an analytical direct matching procedure within the Kronig-Penny model to analyze the dispersion behavior of surface waves with controllable localization. It is shown that the thin nonlinear cap layer acts as a tool to change the backward surface waves to forward ones and vice versa and it plays an important role on the localization of them. Also we show that when the LH layers are chosen dispersive, negative dispersion of surface waves are obtained in a wide range of radiation angle and frequency, and we propose an approach to calculate the applied electric field intensity that leads to switching of surface waves from backward to forward and creating a surface mode with maximum localization.  相似文献

We investigate extraordinary features of optical parametric amplification of Stokes electromagnetic waves that originate from the three-wave mixing of a backward phonon wave with negative group velocity and two ordinary electromagnetic waves. Such properties were earlier shown to exist only in plasmonic negative-index metamaterials that are very challenging to fabricate. Nonlinear optical photonic devices with properties similar to those predicted for negative-index metamaterials are proposed.  相似文献

Fourier-series windowing, a technique used to obtain spatially localized in vivo NMR spectra, is extended to fields-of-view containing a number of arbitrarily shaped regions of interest. For each volume, k-space weighting functions are derived and then combined to give an overall k-space sampling pattern - the number of signal acquisitions per phase-encoding vector - which can then be used to obtain spatially localized spectra of optimal sensitivity, consistent with a specified degree of localization. The technique is compared with the related methods of chemical-shift imaging and spectral localization by imaging.  相似文献
