The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and surface-enhanced spectroscopy of a new electro active organic material bis (benzimidazo) thioperylene (Monothio BZP) are reported. Langmuir monolayers of Monothio BZP were successfully formed on water subphase and characterized by the pi-A surface-pressure area isotherm. Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monomolecular layers of Monothio BZP were fabricated onto glass substrates and onto silver island films for surface-enhanced spectroscopic studies. The results of surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS), SERRS imaging and surface-enhanced fluorescence (SEF) studies for Monothio BZP LB monolayers are reported. Raman imaging (global imaging and point-by-point mapping) of the SERRS signal for a single monomolecular layer on silver islands were obtained using the 514.5 nm laser line. The SERRS imaging permits a visualization of the variation of the SERRS intensity across of the rough metal surface. The SEF was recorded for the excimer emission of aggregates in the LB film. The distance dependence and the enhancement factor of SEF were determined using fatty acid spacing layers. A temperature dependence study of the LB monolayer SERRS and SEF spectra was carried out between -190 degrees and + 200 degrees C confirming the thermal stability of the LB monolayer on silver. The specificity and the sensitivity of SERRS signal on metal island films was probed using mixed LB films with 0.01% molecular ratio of Monothio BZP in Arachidic Acid (AA). The micro-Raman SERRS spectra from ca. 10(-3) attomole of the dye were recorded.  相似文献

The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayer technique was used to fabricate single molecule LB monolayer containing bis(phenethylimido)perylene (PhPTCD), a red dye dispersed in arachidic acid (AA) with an average doping of 1 molecule per microm2. The monolayer was transferred onto Ag island films to obtain spatially resolved surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) spectra. The mixed LB monolayers were fabricated with a concentration, on average, of 1, 6, 19 and 118 PhPTCD molecules per microm2 in AA. The AA provides a two-dimensional host matrix whose background signal does not interfere with the detection of the probe molecule's SERRS signal. The properties of the single molecule detection were investigated using micro-Raman with a 514.5-nm laser line. The Ag island surfaces coated with the LB monolayer were mapped with spatial steps of 3 microm and global chemical imaging of the most intense SERRS band in the spectrum was also recorded. The SERRS and surface-enhanced fluorescence (SEF) of the neat and single molecule LB monolayer were recorded in a temperature range from liquid nitrogen to + 200 degrees C. Neat PhPTCD LB monolayer spectra served as reference for the identification of characteristic signatures of the single molecule behavior. The spatial resolution of Raman-microscopy experiments, the multiplicative effect of resonance Raman and SERRS, and the high sensitivity of the new dispersive Raman instruments, allow SERRS to be part of the family of single molecular spectroscopies.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of four amphiphilic nucleolipids in single-layer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films deposited on silver island film substrates from pure water and complementary nucleotide-containing subphase and corresponding powder normal Raman spectra were obtained. The analysis of these spectra indicates that the SERS effect is mainly caused by a charge-transfer mechanism, and only the nucleobase headgroup moieties and complementary bases combined with them through hydrogen bonds, which are directly in contact with the silver island film substrates, could be enhanced. For the amphiphilic nucleolipids with the identical nucleobase headgroups, the SERS spectra of the LB films are similar, implying that the orientations of these nucleobase moieties on the silver substrates are analogous. However, the nucleobase takes different orientations on the silver substrates before and after complementary binding. The nucleobases in the LB films deposited from pure water are nearly lying flat on the silver surface, while the complementary binding pairs transferred from the air/water interface tend to take an end-on orientation on the metal surface.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) of the Rhodamine 123 (Rh 123) molecule on ion-induced silver colloids has been studied. A time-dependent study of the SER spectra at a particular pH confirms charge transfer interaction between the probe molecule and the metal. The SER spectra of Rh 123 in Ag sol is compared with that of the molecules organized in a monolayer on silver island films by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. The origin of high SERS activity of Rh 123 molecules in a monolayer on a silver island film is shown to be due to physisorption whereas in the ion-induced colloidal SERS both physisorption and chemisorption machanisms are involved. From these results, the contribution of charge transfer interaction to SERS in Ag sol has been estimated. In monolayer SERS, all the in-plane and out-of-plane (of xanthene ring) modes are more or less equally enhanced. This indicates that the xanthene plane of Rh 123 molecule organized in a LB film is oriented neither flat nor perpendicular to the silver island surface but is tilted. Rhodium phthalocyanine (RhPc) was synthesized and ultra thin Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of RhPc were successfully fabricated. The LB film characterization was carried out using both UV-vis absorption spectra and Raman scattering. The Raman spectroscopy was carried out using 633 and 780 nm laser lines. LB films were deposited onto Ag nanoparticles to achieve the surface-enhanced pre-resonance Raman scattering (pre-SERRS) and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for both laser lines, respectively, which allowed the characterization of the RhPc ultra thin films. The morphology of the LB RhPc neat film is extracted from micro-Raman imaging.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced vibrational spectroscopy (SEVS) is discussed using 5-methyluracil (thymine) as a model compound. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface-enhanced infrared (SEIR) are reported and a characterization of thymine adsorbed onto silver island films is provided. The thymine SERS spectra obtained using silver colloids, silver roughened electrodes and silver island films are remarkably different due to several binding possibilities of thymine during chemical adsorption onto a silver surface. It is shown that laser induced photo dissociation may lead to further changes in the recorded spectra of the adsorbate. The surface enhanced-infrared (SEIR) spectra of thymine on silver island are reported here for the first time. The infrared spectra of thymine films were also been obtained to help the assignment of molecular vibrations in the surface enhanced spectra.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) are powerful optical scattering techniques used in such frontier areas of research as ultrasensitive chemical analysis, the characterization of nanostructures, and the detection of single molecules. However, measuring and, most importantly, interpreting SERS/SERRS spectra can be incredibly challenging. This is the result of modifications to the measured spectra that are due to of a variety of instabilities and contributions. These interferences and modifications arise from the nature of the enhancement itself, as well as the conditions used to attain SERS spectra. The present report is an attempt to collect in one place the analytical interferences that are most commonly found during the collection of SERS/SERRS spectra.  相似文献

The infrared and Raman spectra of solids and thin solid films of 6-nitrochrysene, its electronic spectra, and resonance Raman scattering (RRS) obtained with UV-laser excitation at 325 nm are reported. The vibrational assignment is supported by ab initio computations at the B3LYP/6-311G(d, p) level of theory. The molecular organization in nanometric films evaporated onto smooth metal surfaces of silver and copper was probed using reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS). The results of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) obtained from nanometric films evaporated onto silver island films are also discussed. It was found that the molecule efficiently interacts with silver island film surfaces, and that the interaction leads to extensive photochemical reaction at the metal surface under laser illumination.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) spectra of various rhodamine dyes, of pyronine G and thiopyronine adsorbed on isolated silver clusters were recorded at the ensemble level and at the single-molecule level with a high-resolution confocal laser microscope equipped with a spectrograph and a CCD-detector. Comparing single-molecule spectra with ensemble spectra, various inhomogeneous spectral features, such as line splitting, spectral wandering, spectral diffusion and abrupt spectral jumps between different metastable spectral states, are revealed positions and the relative intensities of the vibronic bands. Resonance enhancement is investigated with respect to single-molecule surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy and is found to be responsible for approximately three orders of magnitude in sensitivity. A significant influence of the substituents on the single-molecule SERRS sensitivity is found, showing that various chemical effects are responsible for surface enhancement in addition to the electromagnetic enhancement effect.  相似文献

We have recorded surface-enhanced Raman (SER) spectra of two different classes of compounds, cationic dyes and organic acids, and studied their chloride ion effects on the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activities of the silver solution. For the positive charge dyes, rhodamine 6G (R6G) and 1,1'-dimethyl-2,2'-cyanine iodide (DECI), no SERS could be observed without the addition of chloride ions because of lack of the electrostatic interaction between the dye species and the silver particles in the silver solution. The chloride ions served to enlarge silver particles and to contribute the existence of the surface active sites, making the silver solution SERS active to the dye samples. Surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) intensity of the dye molecules increased with the chloride ion concentration. After reaching a maximum intensity, a Cl- quenching effect on the intensity took place. For the organic acids, benzoic acid and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), SERS could be observed without the coexistence of chloride ions. The intensity of the Raman scattering did not vary significantly in the presence of small amount of chloride ion. At high Cl- concentration, quenching SERS intensity began to take effect.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of 4-mercaptopyridine (4-mpy) adsorbed on HNO3 etched silver foil, chemically deposited silver films (silver mirror) and silver colloids were measured. The SERS study has revealed that 4-mpy was adsorbed onto the three kinds of silver surfaces by a sulfur-silver bond with the plane of pyridine ring being normal to the silver substrates. The structure of 4-mpy adsorbed on the silver surfaces depends largely on the pH values of environment. When the pH values of the environment are changed, the structure of 4-mpy adsorbed on silver surfaces can easily be altered through a protonation or deprotonation reaction occurring on the N atom of the pyridine ring, and the modified structure shows unique characters on the SERS spectrum. Owing to the remarkable enhancement ability of SERS technique and characteristic spectrum of different species, a monolayer of 4-mpy assembled on a silver mirror holds potential as a H+ sensor for highly sensitive detection of the proton concentration in an aqueous solution.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been observed from thin films of polystyrene (PS), diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA), and poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (PVP) deposited on silver island films Degradation of the polymers occurred rapidly during laser irradiation and was accompanied by the appearance of strong bands near 1375 and 1575 cm-1. These bands were attributed to the formation of graphite-like species by the silver-catalyzed thermal oxidation of the polymers induced by localized laser heating of the substrate. When the thin films of PS, DGEBA, or PVP were overcoated with much thicker films of a second polymer such as polystyrene sulfonate (PSS), the degradation was greatly reduced, and excellent SERS spectra of the PS, DGEBA, and PVP films were obtained. Overlayers reduced degradation within the first films deposited on silver island films by restricting the availability of oxygen at the interface to its solubility in the overlayer polymer or by altering the adsorption of oxygen onto the substrate. SERS was observed for the PS, DGEBA, and PVP films and the PSS overlayers when the films were deposited from relatively dilute solutions. When the PS, DGEBA, and PVP films were deposited from more concentrated solutions, SERS was not observed from the PSS overlayers. It was suggested that most of the SERS was due to a short-range, charge-transfer mechanism associated with sites of atomic scale roughness and that SERS was observed from the overlayer when the first film failed to occupy all of the sites.  相似文献

This communication presents a new pathway for the more precise quantification of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) enhancement factor via deducing resonance Raman scattering (RRS) effect from surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS). To achieve this, a self-assembled monolayer of 1,8,15,22-tetraaminophthalocyanatocobalt(II) (4α-CoIITAPc) is formed on plasmon inactive glassy carbon (GC) and plasmon active GC/AuNP surface. The surfaces are subsequently used as common probes for electrochemical and Raman (RRS and SERRS) studies. The most crucial parameters required for the quantification of SERS substrate enhancement factor (SSEF) such as real surface area of GC/AuNPs substarte and the number of 4α-CoIITAPc molecules contributing to RRS (on GC) and SERRS (on GC/AuNPs) are precisely estimated by cyclic voltammetry experiments. The present approach of SSEF quantification can be applied to varieties of surfaces by choosing an appropriate laser line and probe molecule for each surface.  相似文献

The interpretation of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of p-nitrothiophenol (p-NTP) is reported. SERS spectra were obtained by vacuum evaporation and casting of p-NTP onto silver island films, and also from colloidal silver solutions. The vibrational spectra of the silver salt (p-NTP-silver) were obtained for a direct comparison with the SERS of p-NTP chemically adsorbed onto Ag. Chemisorption of p-NTP through S-Ag bonding is indirectly proven by the disappearance of the S-H stretching mode. The Raman scattering spectrum of the silver salt is in good agreement with the SERS spectra of the silver surface complex. The spectral interpretation was aided using density functional theory calculations of the molecular spectra of p-NTP and that of the Ag-p-NTP.  相似文献

The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of octadecanoyl ester of 1-(2-carboxyethyl) thymine deposited from pure water and aqueous adenosine subphases were investigated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis), Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR), and Fourier transform surface-enhanced Raman scattering (FT-SERS) spectroscopy. The obtained spectral results indicate that the adenosine molecules in the subphase can be transferred onto solid substrates by LB techniques as a result of the formation of base pairs at the air/water interface. UV-vis spectra alternations indicated that, with increasing adenosine concentration in subphase, more adenosine molecules were recognized by nucleolipid monolayer and were transferred onto the quartz substrates. The closed-packing of the constituent molecules facilitates the photodimerization of the thymine moieties in the headgroup under ultraviolet irradiation. FTIR-ATR results suggest that the hydrocarbon chains of nucleolipid in the LB films deposited from pure water and aqueous adenosine take on a close-packed all trans conformation. By analyzing the FT-SERS spectra results, it can be deduced that the orientation of nucleobase in the headgroup is different before and after the recognition effect occurred. For LB film deposited from pure water, the nucleobases are lying flat on the silver substrates; whereas for LB film deposited from aqueous adenosine, the base pairs take an end-on adsorption on silver substrate.  相似文献

When colloidal silver particles were chemically deposited onto polymer film as an over-coating layer, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra could be collected for the surface analysis. SERS measurements of liquid crystalfilm were successfully performed without disturbing the surface morphology.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of dipping films of azobenzene-containing long-chain fatty acids, nAmH (n=8, 12, m=3, 5), on silver mirrors measured with a wide range of excitation wavelengths in the 457.9-1064 nm region is reported. The obtained Raman spectra show great SERS effect even with the 1064 nm excitation, and the excitation with 457.9, 476.5, and 488.0 nm gives surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) due to the resonance effect of the symmetry-forbidden n-pi* transition of the azo group. Of particular note in the present study is that the SERS spectra with the excitation in the 532-1064 nm region yield Raman bands whose frequencies are almost identical to those bands in Raman spectra of nAmH in solid state while the SERRS spectra with the excitation in the 457.9-514.5 nm region show not only a set of bands which correspond to those of nAmH in the solid state but also a set of bands whose frequencies show a significant shift from those of the bands of nAmH in the solid state. These observations lead us to conclude that there are two kinds of molecular aggregates in the dipping films of azobenzene-containing long-chain fatty acid in which azobenzene moieties are condensed to form small bundles.  相似文献

Metallic substrates with ordered spherical cavities have been shown to be very effective for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and can be fabricated reproducibly using electrodeposition. The sensitivity of detection is increased by several orders of magnitude by using surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS). In this report we demonstrate SERRS for the first time on electrodeposited gold films templated with colloidal spheres and demonstrate the reproducibility of the response. We also obtain a direct comparison between SERRS and SERS by choosing two dyes, Cy5 and Cy3, which are similar in structure but differ in their excitation maxima, such that one is resonant and the other non-resonant with our laser excitation. As expected, the resonant enhancement is found to be of the order of 10(3) over and above that for SERS. The net SERRS enhancements are shown to be of the order of 10(9). We also find that the resonant enhancement profile of the different peaks for the chromophore follows the plasmonic resonance absorption spectrum obtained for the structured surface.  相似文献

The authors preparedlarge area surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) active substrates with tunable enhancement. First the large area gratings were fabricated by scanning a photoresist with two-beam laser interference and subsequently they were coated with silver nano islands via vacuum evaporation. SERS active metal island grating substrates with four different periods(300, 400, 515 and 600 nm) and Ag nano islands uniformly coated on an area of 2.5 cm×0.5 cm were obtained. The measured SERS spectra reveal the tuning effect of the period on the Raman signals period. The highest enhancement(ca. 105) for Rhodamine 6G(R6G) as probing molecule is associated with a period of 515 nm due to the perfect matching of surface plasmons and Raman excitation line. A good reproducibility of SERS signals with almost the same SERS intensity at different spots was observed on all the larger area Ag island grating substrates.  相似文献
