A bandwidth-tunable optical passband filter with tunable attenuation is proposed. The filter, composed of a transmission liquid crystal array and high-resolution diffraction grating, was successfully demonstrated based on the compact spatial light design. Experimental results showed that the bandwidth, wavelength, and attenuation could be tuned by controlling the voltage applied on the liquid crystal array. The insertion loss was less than 3 dB;the attenuation tuning range was from 0 to 15 dB. The bandwidth tuning range was from 50 to 5000 GHz, which covered the full C band. The filter can meet the technical requirements of colorless-directionless-contentionlessflexible reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer.  相似文献

We report on the generation of essentially transform-limited mid-infrared pulses as short as 75 fs centered at 5mum with 6muJ of energy. Infrared materials with group-velocity dispersion values of opposite sign are used in combination to null second-order dispersion and compress the mid-infrared pulses.  相似文献

An alternative interface structure design of a large-area optical waveguide for a large-area optical printed circuit board using a step-out fabrication technique is proposed. To investigate the misalignment tolerances and coupling excess losses, we simulated and compared our proposed structure to a typical straight core structure. As a result, the proposed structure was found to significantly improve the misalignment tolerance by more than 2 times and successfully conduct a data-link based on large area optical waveguide of 50 cm ×?50 cm.  相似文献

Measurements of at low x and low are expected to provide a sensitive probe of the transition from Regge to perturbative QCD dynamics, offering a new testing ground for models of small x physics. We discuss the potential of polarized ep colliders (Polarized HERA and eRHIC) to investigate this physics – varying between 0.01 and 1 GeV– and to constrain the high-energy part of the Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum-rule for polarized photoproduction. Besides dispersion engineering, idler-band distributed fiber loss provides a new synthesis freedom to flatten and broaden the gain spectrum for a fiber-optic parametric amplifier. This interesting phenomenon is based on the fact that the power balance between signal and idler is broken by idler loss, which changes the power conversion process in four-wave-mixing. The pump-to-signal conversion efficiency is kept unchanged in spite of the loss.  相似文献

A novel all-optical-path-routing technique is described, which employs four-wave mixing in a dispersion-shifted fiber and a wavelength router with fiber gratings and optical circulators. The signal wavelength is converted to a specified channel by four-wave mixing, and is finally selected with the wavelength router. It offers good potential for enabling the number of output ports of a wavelength router to be extended as it provides a very sharp spectral edge and a low insertion loss.  相似文献

By inserting a low-reflectivity flat surface inside the oscillator cavity, we demonstrate a flexible and phase-insensitive method for multiplying the repetition rate of a femtosecond passive mode-locked solid-state laser. Without mode matching and feedback control, we successfully multiplied the repetition rate of a passively mode-locked Cr:forsterite laser from 124 MHz to 1.24 GHz. High-repetition-rate femtosecond optical pulses with average power of >100 mW can be obtained with the demonstrated method.  相似文献

Summary A study of the optical and electrical properties of the alloy system GaAs1−x P x , grown by MOVPE, is presented. Investigations of injection luminescence and photoluminescence indicate that the material has optical properties compatible with LED requirements. We also show, for the first time, that the main deep electron trap in GaAs (EL2) can be traced into the GaAs1−x P x system. The electronic band structure and x-ray spectra of aluminum in wurtzite-type crystals of BxAl1 ? x N compounds are investigated and compared with those of the binary aluminum nitride AlN. We demonstrate that the conditions of spaser generation and the full loss compensation in a dense resonant plasmonic-gain medium (metamaterial) are identical. Consequently, attempting the full compensation or overcompensation of losses by gain will lead to instability and a transition to a spaser state. This will limit (clamp) the inversion and lead to the limitation on the maximum loss compensation achievable. The criterion of the loss overcompensation, leading to the instability and spasing, is given in an analytical and universal (independent from system's geometry) form.  相似文献

We describe the performance of a 100 channel free-space concave grating demultiplexer with 1dB transmission passband of ±7GHz (FWHM 14–22GHz). The influence of optical aberrations and defocusing on the transmission spectrum is demonstrated. Crosstalk between neighbouring channels separated by >0.3nm is lower than –25dB and no penalty due to crosstalk is observed using 2.6Gbit/s directly modulated DFB lasers. Penalty-free transmission through a cascade of 30 demultiplexers is demonstrated in an optical fibre recirculating loop experiment, and the permitted tolerances on the laser frequency misalignments for a larger number of cascaded demultiplexers are investigated.  相似文献

Waveguide structures with a balance of loss and gain have been frequently discussed in the photonic community not only as photonic analogues of quantum-mechanical systems with parity-time (PT) symmetry (breaking), but also as components with potentially interesting technical applications. In this contribution, properties of mutually coupled photonic waveguides with loss and gain are numerically analyzed using our proprietary full-vectorial Fourier modal method. Beside the classical case of a directional coupler with a balance of loss and gain, more general waveguide coupler structures exhibiting the behaviour analogous to PT-symmetry breaking, potentially applicable for photonic switching, are analyzed, too. For applications, simultaneous mutually balanced change of both loss and gain is evidently impractical. For a directional coupler structure with loss in one channel and gain in the other channel it is shown by rigorous numerical modelling that the behaviour analogous to PT-symmetry breaking can be realized by varying gain (or loss) only. Finally, it is confirmed by rigorous numerical modelling that the exceptional point does exist also in a very high-contrast asymmetric structure of a plasmonic directional coupler with strongly localized gain in one channel.  相似文献

Full potential linear augmented plane wave calculations have been performed to study the electronic and optical properties of In-rich In(x)Al(1-x)N alloys in the hexagonal wurtzite structure. Compositions of x = 0.9375, 0.8125 and 0.6875 are considered which follow from replacing one, three and five In atoms by Al in the 32-atom supercell. The new form of exchange correlation, i.e. Engel-Vosko's generalized gradient approximation within density functional theory, is employed. The calculations yield the band structure and total density of states as well as the imaginary part ε(2)(ω) of the ordinary and extraordinary dielectric function. The calculated dependence of the bandgap on the composition is in good agreement with recent experimental studies. A reversal of the valence band ordering is found between x = 0.8125 and 0.6875. The absorption features in the high-energy range of ε(2)(ω) are related to critical points of the band structure. The transition energies for these van Hove singularities are determined and their bowing parameters are discussed.  相似文献

An optical surface with convex parabolic shape over a large area has been created using a 12.7-mm-diameter annular pusher to deform a flat 25.4-mm-diameter mirror. The deformable mirror assembly has been modeled using finite element analysis software as well as analytical solutions. The measured parabolic surface deformation shows good agreement with those models. Mirror performance was studied using a Shack–Hartman wavefront sensor and the mirror has been applied to compensate thermal lensing in a Nd:YAG rod amplifier. PACS 41.85.Ct; 42.60.Da  相似文献

Complex studies of magnetic, electrical, and optical properties of Vx Fe1?x BO3 solid solutions are carried out in the entire range of concentrations between the extreme compounds VBO3 and FeBO3. A concentration semiconductor-insulator transition accompanied by a change in the magnetic structure is observed. It is found that the physical properties of the solid solution under investigation differ from those predicted in the model of a virtual crystal in the form of an aggregate of V and Fe centers taken with the weight of x and 1?x, respectively. The systems of electron energy levels of the VB6O6 and FeB6O6 clusters are calculated from first principles using the Hartree-Fock method. The calculated electron structure forms the basis for simulating the optical absorption spectra, which are in good agreement with experimental results. A qualitative explanation is given for the entire body of data on electrical conductivity and magnetization.  相似文献

The relative importance of group-velocity dispersion and loss-induced distortion in limiting the performance of optical delay lines based on coupled resonator structures is investigated. It is shown that for the current state of the quality of fabrication both factors play roughly comparable roles for bit rates of 2.5-40 Gbits/s and that as the storage capacity grows, the relative weight of loss-imposed limitation increases.  相似文献
