The effect of the degree of platinum crystallite size on the reaction rate, selectivity and activation energy of ethane and propane hydrogenolysis has been studied in the range of platinum crystallite size of 1.7–4.0 nm. In the same range of Pt crystallite size, the activation energy of both processes shows a clear minimum. The decrease in Pt crystallite size bellow 3.0 nm brings about rapid changes in the selectivity of propane hydrogenolysis.

Computer method for evaluation of Arrhenius equation parameters from non-isothermal kinetic data is offered in KILET program. Changes of temperature can be linear, hyperbolic or of any smooth function which could be expressed by a polynomial of up to 4th degree. The method is demonstrated on examples of linear and hyperbolic changes for simulated and experimental data. The advantage of non-isothermal experiment over isothermal one for evaluation of kinetic solution data is stressed.

Thermal stability of the clodronic acid complex formed with sodium (Na2CCl2(HPO3)2 ·4H2O) was studied using both dynamic and isothermal thermogravimetric analyses as well as mass spectra. The thermal decomposition has two stages: dehydration and loss of two molecules of hydrogen chloride. Using the isothermal TG data the first step was found to be a phase-boundary reaction while the second step obviously cannot be described with just one reaction mechanism. The final residue of the dynamic TG analyses above 810 K was found to be sodium metaphosphate.
Zusammenfassung Sowohl mittels dynamischer und thermogravimetrischer Untersuchungen als auch and Hand von Massenspektren wurde die thermische Stabilität des mit Natrium gebildeten Säurekomplexes Na2CCl2(HPO3)2·4H2O untersucht. Die thermische Zersetzung vollzieht sich in zwei Schritten: Dehydratation und Verlust von zwei Molekülen HCl. Auf Grund der isothermen TG Angaben ist der erste Schritt eine Phasengrenzreaktion, während der zweite Schritt mit einem einzigen Reaktionsmechanismus nicht eindeutig beschrieben werden kann. Das Endprodukt der DTG Analyse oberhalb 810 K erwies sich als Natriummethaphosphat.

An ESR study has shown that under the action of oxygen pulses, radical ions O 2 with gI=2.0085 and gII=2.087 are generated at room temperature on the surface of 1% CoO–MgO. Heating of the sample to 150 °C in the spectrometer results in complete disappearance of the O 2 signal from the ESR spectra. The variation of the O 2 signal intensity with time due to the interaction between propene and oxygen adsorbed on the sample surface, has been measured.

According to high-temperature IR spectroscopic studies, the isosteric heats of pyridine adsorption on the Lewis centers of Al2 O3, ZrO2 and zeolite HNaY have been estimated. The dependence between the frequency 8a (1580–1630 cm–1) and the adsorption heat is shown to take place only for centers formed by cations of the same metal.

Ab initio quantum-chemical calculations of OH radical adsorption on Ni(110) have been carried out in cluster approximations. It is shown that unlike energy calculations of adsorbed complexes, their vibrational frequencies must be calculated with taking into account 3d orbitals of Ni.

The melting behaviour of oriented polyethylene oxide (PEO) films when the film samples were heated in the free state and in the isometric state were investigated by use of DSC. It was shown that in the first case the endotherms of melting have multiple peaks, while in the other case they have one peak. Non-linear dependences of the melting temperature and enthalpy of oriented films on the pressing temperature of the initial PEO isotropic film samples were determined.
Zusammenfassung Das Schmelzverhalten orientierter PEO-Filme beim Erhitzen der filmproben im freien und isometrischen Zustand wurde mittels DSC untersucht. Es wurde festgestellt, daß im ersten Falle der Schmelzvorgang durch mehrere endotherme Peaks gekennzeichnet ist, während im anderen Falle nur ein endothermer Peak auftritt. Nicht-lineare Abhängigkeiten der Schmelztemperatur und — enthalpie orientierter Filme von der Temperatur, bei der die Bestimmung der ursprünglich isotropen PEO-Filme erfolgte, wurden untersucht.

The paper analyzes the simplest case of concentration independent deactivation of a catalyst surface in the presence of external transport limitations and accounts for the variations around the mean value of the activity of the catalysts leading to a stochastic formulation. The results reveal interesting features which would not be evident from the conventional deterministic analysis.

By changing the conditions of calcination prior to reduction, three samples with different metal dispersity of Pt/NaY zeolite have been obtained. Their behavior in methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation shows an insensitive character if a second order mechanism with respect to the active site concentration is assumed.

This paper describes the arrangement of measuring apparatus for vapor pressure determination by means of DSC according to the dynamic method (measurement of boiling temperatures at various pressures). Measuring conditions, main test parameters, typical disturbances and measuring errors are discussed. In the measuring range accessible (0.1 to 7000 kPa/ –30 to 600°C), certain boiling points and vapor pressure curves plotted therefrom agree very well with values specified in the literature. Extrapolation of these vapor pressure curves to the pressure range up to 0.1 mPa gives approximate values, the orders of magnitude of which are in agreement with those measured by means of other methods. Vapor pressure curves of oleochemical substances are presented.
Zusammenfassung Der Aufbau eines Meßplatzes zur Dampfdruckbestimmung mit der DSC nach der dynamischen Methode (Messung der Siedetemperaturen bei verschiedenen Drücken) wird beschrieben. Meßbedingungen, wesentliche Versuchsparameter, typische Störungen und Meßfehler werden diskutiert. Im zugänglichen Meßbereich (0,1 bis 7000 kPa/–30 bis 600°C) bestimmte Siedepunkte und daraus ermittelte Dampfdruckkurven stimmen sehr gut mit Literaturangaben überein. Die Extrapolation der Dampfdruckkurven in den Druckbereich bis 0,1 mPa liefert näherungsweise Werte, die mit nach anderen Verfahren gemessenen Werten in der Größenordnung übereinstimmen. Dampfdruckkurven von fettchemischen Substanzen werden vorgestellt.

Relative oxidation rate constants of several normal, iso-, cyclo-and methylcycloalkanes have been measured in Cl2–H2O and Cl2–Hg2+–H2O solutions at 343K. The selectivity of C–H bond dissociation in both systems is the same. HOCl is assumed to be the active species for the two systems.

The electromechanical coupling factor and ferroelectric hysteresis loops were investigated at different temperatures for BaTi0.85Hf0.15O3 transducer. Maximum polarization and strain were obtained near the transition of the crystal structure. This correlated with increases in the ease and extent of ferroelectric domain boundary motion. The change in the crystal structure varied the unit cell volume, leading to higher strain.
Zusammenfassung Der elektromechanische Kopplungsfaktor und die ferroelektrische Hysteresisschleife wurde für BaTi0.85Hf0.15O3-Transducer bei verschiedenen Temperaturen untersucht. Polarisation und Deformation nehmen in der Nähe des Umwandlungspunktes der Kristallstruktur maximale Werte an. Dies korreliert mit Leichtigkeit und Außmaß der Grenzbewegung im ferromagnetischen Bereich. Die mit der Umwandlung der Kristallstruktur zusammenhängende Veränderung des Elementarzellenvolumens führt zu größerer Verformung.

The kinetics of the reaction of valine with peracetic acid has been studied in aqueous solutions (pH 4.91) at 45°C. At the initial stages, oxidative deamination of valine is the predominant process. The reaction is bimolecular, characterized by rate constants of 1.75–2.38 1/mol sec at 45°C. The mechanism of the oxidative deamination of valine is discussed.

A review is given of various metallurgical problems treated in the author's laboratory, for which quantitative calorimetry gave very valuable information. Measurements of thermodynamic data for phase diagram calculations, vacancies in ordered alloys, annealing of steels, and the recovery and crystallization of amorphous alloys are successively examined.
Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Übersicht über verschiedene, in unserem Laboratorium bearbeitete metallurgische Probleme gegeben, für die durch quantitative Kalorimetrie sehr genaue Informationen erhalten werden. Es wird auf Messungen thermodynamischer Daten für Phasendiagrammberechnungen, auf Fehlstellen in geordneten Legierungen, auf das Tempern von Stahl sowie auf Aufarbeitung und Kristallisation von amorphen Legierungen eingegangen.

Hydrogen desorption proceeds in several temperature regions and differs by its order of magnitude and activation energy. Differential curves of adsorbed hydrogen distribution with respect to the desorption activation energy, dN/dE (E), show a considerable inhomogeneity of adsorbed atomic species and the energetic homogeneity of molecular species.

A new metal reactor with two chambers in which complete mixing of gases is achieved has been developed for use in the diaphragm method. This apparatus is suitable for the determination of the effective diffusion coefficient and its temperature dependence. It can also be used to determine the type of transport, the gas permeability coefficient and to investigate the macrokinetics of catalytic processes.

A study was carried out upon the thermal behaviour of eight derivatives of triphen-y l amine, i. e. trinitrotriphenylamine; triaminotriphenylamine; triaminotriphenylamine chlorhydrate, tetraphenylborate and picrate; and a trisazo derivative and its compound with Be(II) and U(VI). The aim of this study was to find compounds with satisfactory thermal stability for use as stationary phases in gas chromatography.
Zusammenfassung Eine umfassende Untersuchung zum thermischen Verhalten von acht Triphenylaminderivaten, d. h. Trinitrotriphenylamin, Triaminotriphenylamin, Triaminotriphenylamin Chlorhydrat, Tetraphenylborat und Pikrat, sowie ein Trisazoderivat und seine Verbindungen mit Be(II) und U(VI) wurde durchgeführt. Der Zweck dieser Studie war Verbindungen befriedigender Thermostabilität zum Einsatz als stationäre Phasen in der Gaschromatographie zu finden.

Silver crystals electrodeposited from AgNO3 (8%) and Pd2+ (250 mg/dm3) electrolyte before and after exposing to the conditions of the methanol to formaldehyde oxidation process were investigated by AES. Carbon, sulfur, oxygen and palladium on the surface were observed. Higher Pd concentration on the silver surface than in the bulk was found. Its amount on the surface decreased with the temperature increase.
