Coupled excitable elements in the presence of noise can exhibit oscillatory behavior with non-trivial frequency dependence as the coupling strength of the system increases. The phenomenon of frequency enhancement (FE) occurs in some coupling regime, in which the elements can oscillate with a frequency higher than their uncoupled frequencies. In this paper, details of the FE are investigated by simulations of the FitzHugh-Nagumo model with different network topologies. It is found that the characteristics of FE, such as the maximal enhancement coupling, enhancement level etc, are functions of the network topology and spatial dimensions. The effect of excitability and the spatio-temporal patterns during FE are investigated to provide an intuitive picture for the enhancement mechanism. Interestingly, some of these characteristics of FE can be described by scaling laws; suggesting the existence of universality in the FE phenomenon. The relevance of these results to biological rhythms are also discussed.  相似文献

We study the impact of competing time delays in coupled stochastic synchronization and coordination problems. We consider two types of delays: transmission delays between interacting elements and processing, cognitive, or execution delays at each element. We establish the scaling theory for the phase boundary of synchronization and for the steady-state fluctuations in the synchronizable regime. Further, we provide the asymptotic behavior near the boundary of the synchronizable regime. Our results also imply the potential for optimization and trade-offs in synchronization problems with time delays.  相似文献

We study the regime of anticipated synchronization in unidirectionally coupled model neurons subject to a common external aperiodic forcing that makes their behavior unpredictable. We show numerically and by analog hardware electronic circuits that, under appropriate coupling conditions, the pulses fired by the slave neuron anticipate (i.e., predict) the pulses fired by the master neuron. This anticipated synchronization occurs even when the common external forcing is white noise.  相似文献

Structural stochastic multiresonance is observed in hierarchical networks with a tree-like structure, with non-dynamical threshold elements placed in the nodes and interacting along the edges of the network, driven by a common slowly varying periodic signal and independent noise sources. If the amplitude of the periodic signal is close to the threshold double maxima of the signal-to-noise ratio in the output of the top elements occur for a narrow range of the strength of connections, depending on the number of layers and the branching factor of the network. Additional maximum occurs at small noise intensities due to averaging of inputs received by the top elements from many branches of the network.  相似文献

In this paper, synchronization of a network coupled with complex-variable chaotic systems is investigated. Adaptive feedback control and intermittent control schemes are adopted for achieving adaptive synchronization and exponential synchronization, respectively. Several synchronization criteria are established. In these schemes, the outer coupling matrix is not necessarily assumed to be symmetric or irreducible. Further, for a class of networks with an irreducible and balanced outer coupling matrix, a pinning control scheme is adopted for achieving synchronization. Numerical simulations are demonstrated to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.  相似文献

研究了一类二维变量描述的激发系统中漂移螺旋波的抑制问题.通过在整个系统中局部注入带随机相位的电信号,如在系统256×256格点的边界或中心区域中选取4×4或者5×5格点区域施加一个带随机相位的外部激励电信号,在系统内部产生一个持续的靶波信号,实现靶波对螺旋波的动态竞争.数值计算表明:该方法对于Barkley模型中螺旋波有很强的抑制作用,与简单的局部周期信号驱动比较,具有暂态过程比较短的特点,而且对于时空噪声具有一定的抗干扰性.在一定的噪声范围内,即使系统出现不均匀性,也可以观测到靶波,新出现的靶波对螺旋波有抑制作用. 关键词: 螺旋波 靶波 Barkley模型 随机相位  相似文献

采用Br模型研究了三层耦合可激发介质中螺旋波的控制.相邻层之间采用双向耦合.利用加在第二层介质上的局域周期信号产生的平面波来消除螺旋波.数值模拟表明:只有当三层介质的耦合满足一定条件才可能实现螺旋波的控制,可以通过耦合互补方式实现螺旋波的控制;平面波与低频螺旋波的相互作用可以产生高频螺旋波,导致螺旋波不能被消除;存在优化的驱动宽度,过大或过小的驱动宽度需要增加第一、三层介质的耦合强度.观察到控制结果依赖控制时机的现象.研究结果可用于植入式心脏除颤器的设计.  相似文献

The Hodgkin-Huxley (H-H) neuron model driven by stimuli just above threshold shows a noise-induced response delay with respect to time to the first spike for a certain range of noise strengths, an effect called “noise delayed decay” (NDD). We study the response time of a network of coupled H-H neurons, and investigate how the NDD can be affected by the connection topology of the network and the coupling strength. We show that the NDD effect exists for weak and intermediate coupling strengths, whereas it disappears for strong coupling strength regardless of the connection topology. We also show that although the network structure has very little effect on the NDD for a weak coupling strength, the network structure plays a key role for an intermediate coupling strength by decreasing the NDD effect with the increasing number of random shortcuts, and thus provides an additional operating regime, that is absent in the regular network, in which the neurons may also exploit a spike time code.  相似文献

Delays, connection topology, and synchronization of coupled chaotic maps   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We consider networks of coupled maps where the connections between units involve time delays. We show that, similar to the undelayed case, the synchronization of the network depends on the connection topology, characterized by the spectrum of the graph Laplacian. Consequently, scale-free and random networks are capable of synchronizing despite the delayed flow of information, whereas regular networks with nearest-neighbor connections and their small-world variants generally exhibit poor synchronization. On the other hand, connection delays can actually be conducive to synchronization, so that it is possible for the delayed system to synchronize where the undelayed system does not. Furthermore, the delays determine the synchronized dynamics, leading to the emergence of a wide range of new collective behavior which the individual units are incapable of producing in isolation.  相似文献

We study the Hindmarsh-Rose model of excitable neurons and show that in the asymptotic limit this monostable model can possess some kind of dynamical bistability: small-amplitude quasiharmonic and large-amplitude relaxational oscillations can be simultaneously excited and their formation is accompanied by a narrow hysteresis. We show that bursting noises, stochastic resonance and deterministic chaos are determined by random transitions between these two dynamical states under slow and small changes of one of the model variables (z). We find that these effects take place even for such model parameters when hysteresis transforms into a step and they disappear when this step is smoothed out enough. We analyze some characteristics and conditions of formation of the deterministic chaos. We emphasize that such dynamical bistability and the effects related to it are universal phenomena and occur in a wide class of dynamical systems of different nature including brusselator.  相似文献

In combination with Laughlin's treatment of the quantized Hall conductivity, the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis argument is extended to quantum many-particle systems (including quantum spin systems) with a conserved particle number on a periodic lattice in arbitrary dimensions. Regardless of dimensionality, interaction strength, and particle statistics (Bose or Fermi), a finite excitation gap is possible only when the particle number per unit cell of the ground state is an integer.  相似文献

采用Br-Eiswirth模型研究了两层耦合可激发介质中螺旋波的动力学,两层介质通过网络连接,即在每一层介质上,每一列选一个可激发单元作为中心点,在一层介质上同一列的可激发单元只与另一层介质上对应的中心点及其8个邻居有耦合.数值模拟结果表明:通过这种局部耦合,在适当小的耦合强度下两耦合螺旋波可实现同步,增大耦合强度会导致螺旋波漫游和漂移,造成螺旋波不同步,观察到螺旋波与静息态、低频平面波和不规则斑图共存现象.在适当强的耦合强度下,还观察到两螺旋波转变成同步的平面波消失现象.对产生这些现象的物理机理做了讨论.  相似文献

实际神经元网络中,信息传递时电突触和化学突触同时存在,并且有些神经元间的时滞很小可以忽略.本文构建了带有不同类型突触耦合的小世界网络,研究部分时滞、混合突触及噪声对随机共振的影响.结果表明:兴奋性和抑制性突触的比例影响共振的产生;在抑制性突触为主的网络里,几乎不产生随机共振.系统最佳噪声强度和化学突触比例大致呈线性递增关系;特别是在以化学耦合为主的混合突触网络里,仅当兴奋性突触与抑制性突触比例约为4:1时,噪声才可诱导网络产生共振行为.在此比例下,引入部分时滞发现时滞可诱导网络产生随机多共振,且随网络中时滞边比例的增加,系统响应强度达到最优水平的时滞取值区间逐渐变窄;同时发现,网络中含有的化学突触越多,部分时滞诱导产生的多共振行为越强.此外,当时滞为系统固有周期的整数倍时,时滞越大共振所对应的噪声区域越广;并且网络中时滞边越多,越容易促使噪声和时滞诱导其产生明显的共振行为.  相似文献

Reduction in the scaling exponent of the frequency-magnitude power law of regional seismic activity as a precursor to sizable earthquakes has been widely documented and debated. Recently, postulation based on a modified sand-pile model has been proposed as a plausible explanation. The model demonstrates systematic variations in the frequency-size scaling exponent of avalanches through the introduction of varying degrees of randomness to the conventional regular, nearest-neighbor network connection. In this study, we examined a connection network of successive events in the Taiwan seismicity, in an attempt to shed lights on the behavior of the actual earthquake network. The revealed nature of connection is indeed quite different from the nearest-neighbor interaction usually presumed in most conventional seismicity modeling. However, monthly variations in the statistics of the connection degree, the connection time and the connection distance that reflect important transition dynamics of the regional seismicity network, are inconsistent with the postulation based on the modified sand-pile model that attributes the scaling exponent variation to the varying degree of long range connections.  相似文献

In the paper, we investigate the phenomenon of stochastic resonance of a system with finite locally coupled linear elements driven by multiplicative dichotomous noise and temporal periodic signal. It is shown that, for some suitably selected values of the parameters, with increasing the size of the system or the coupling among the nearest elements, the stochastic resonance phenomenon can be enhanced; while for some other suitably selected parameters' values, with the increase of the size or the coupling, the phenomenon of stochastic resonance can be weakened. Our results can provide some useful insights for the investigation of the stochastic resonance phenomenon of the systems with locally (or globally) coupled finite (or infinite) elements.  相似文献

In long-haul frequency-division-multiplexing (FDM) lightwave transmission systems, transmission characteristics are degraded by four-wave mixing (FWM) generated in optical fibers. To overcome this problem in equally spaced (ES) allocation, modified repeated unequally spaced (RUS) allocations such as equally spaced RUS (ERUS) and unequally spaced RUS (URUS) allocations have been already examined. Also, it has been shown that FWM noises are decreased by arranging the polarization states of the channels. In this paper, dependence of FWM noises on frequency allocations and polarization allocations is investigated. It is revealed that FWM noises are decreased in ES, RUS, ERUS, and URUS with alternating polarization allocations of the channels, and FWM noises are drastically reduced when light polarizations are perpendicularly crossed at both sides of the zero dispersion frequency.  相似文献

Finite segments of infinite chains of classical coupled harmonic oscillators are treated as models of thermodynamic systems in contact with a heat bath, i.e., canonical ensembles. The Liouville function for the infinite chain is reduced by integrating over the outside variables to a function N of the variables of theN-particle segment that is the thermodynamic system. The reduced Liouville function N which is calculated from the dynamics of the infinite chain and the statistical knowledge of the coordinates and momenta att = 0, is a time-dependent probability density in the 2N-dimensional phase space of the system. A Gibbs entropy defined in terms of N measures the evolution of knowledge of the system (more accurately, the growth of missing pertinent information) in the sense of information theory. As ¦t ¦ , energy is equipartitioned, the entropy evolves to the value expected from equilibrium statistical mechanics, and N evolves to an equilibrium distribution function. The simple chain exhibits diffusion in coordinate space, i.e., Brownian motion, and the diffusivity is shown to depend only on the initial distribution of momenta (not of coordinates) in the heat bath. The harmonically bound chain, in the limit of weak coupling, serves as an excellent model for the approach to equilibrium of a canonical ensemble of weakly interacting particles.  相似文献

The internal energy and the spatiotemporal entropy of excitable systems are investigated with the lattice Boltzmann method.The numerical results show that the breakup of spiral wave is attributed to the inadequate supply of energy,i.e.,the internal energy of system is smaller than the energy of self-sustained spiral wave.It is observed that the average internal energy of a regular wave state reduces with its spatiotemporal entropy decreasing.Interestingly,although the energy difference between two regular wave states is very small,the different states can be distinguished obviously due to the large difference between their spatiotemporal entropies.In addition,when the unstable spiral wave converts into the spatiotemporal chaos,the internal energy of system decreases,while the spatiotemporal entropy increases,which behaves as the thermodynamic entropy in an isolated system.  相似文献
