By means of a nested sequence of some critical pieces constructed by Kozlovski, Shen, and van Strien, and by using a covering lemma recently proved by Kahn and Lyubich, we prove that a component of the filled-in Julia set of any polynomial is a point if and only if its forward orbit contains no periodic critical components. It follows immediately that the Julia set of a polynomial is a Cantor set if and only if each critical component of the filled-in Julia set is aperiodic. This result was a conjecture raised by Branner and Hubbard in 1992. This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China  相似文献

In 1992, Branner and Hubbard raised a conjecture that the Julia set of a polynomial is a Cantor set if and only if each critical component of its filled-in Julia set is not periodic. This conjecture was solved recently. In this paper, we generalize this result to a class of rational functions.  相似文献

We study the quasisymmetric geometry of the Julia sets of McMullen maps fλ(z) = zm + λ/z?, where λ ∈ ? {0} and ? and m are positive integers satisfying 1/?+1/m < 1. If the free critical points of fλ are escaped to the infinity, we prove that the Julia set Jλ of fλ is quasisymmetrically equivalent to either a standard Cantor set, a standard Cantor set of circles or a round Sierpiński carpet (which is also standard in some sense). If the free critical points are not escaped, we give a suffcient condition on λ such that Jλ is a Sierpiński carpet and prove that most of them are quasisymmetrically equivalent to some round carpets. In particular, there exist infinitely renormalizable rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymmetrically equivalent to the round carpets.  相似文献

For polynomial maps in the complex plane, the notion of external rays plays an important role in determining the structure of and the dynamics on the Julia set. In this paper we consider an extension of these rays in the case of rational maps of the form Fλ(z) = z n + λ/z n where n > 1. As in the case of polynomials, there is an immediate basin of ∞, so we have similar external rays. We show how to extend these rays throughout the Julia set in three specific examples. Our extended rays are simple closed curves in the Riemann sphere that meet the Julia set in a Cantor set of points and also pass through countably many Fatou components. Unlike the external rays, these extended rays cross infinitely many other extended rays in a manner that helps determine the topology of the Julia set.  相似文献

In the present paper we study Li and Yorke chaos on several spaces in connection with the cardinality of its scrambled sets. We prove that there is a map on a Cantor set and a map on a two-dimensional arcwise connected continuum (with empty interior) such that each scrambled set contains exactly two points.  相似文献

We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the connected Julia set of a polynomial of degree d?2 to be an indecomposable continuum. One necessary and sufficient condition is that the impression of some prime end (external ray) of the unbounded complementary domain of the Julia set J has nonempty interior in J. Another is that every prime end has as its impression the entire Julia set. The latter answers a question posed in 1993 by the second two authors. We show by example that, contrary to the case for a polynomial Julia set, the image of an indecomposable subcontinuum of the Julia set of a rational function need not be indecomposable.  相似文献

We explore the class of elliptic functions whose critical points all contained in the Julia set are non-recurrent and whose ω-limit sets form compact subsets of the complex plane. In particular, this class comprises hyperbolic, subhyperbolic and parabolic elliptic maps. Leth be the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set of such an elliptic functionf. We construct an atomlessh-conformal measurem and show that theh-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the Julia set off vanishes unless the Julia set is equal to the entire complex plane ℂ. Theh-dimensional packing measure is positive and is finite if and only if there are no rationally indifferent periodic points. Furthermore, we prove the existence of a (unique up to a multiplicative constant) σ-finitef-invariant measure μ equivalent tom. The measure μ is shown to be ergodic and conservative, and we identify the set of points whose open neighborhoods all have infinite measure μ. In particular, we show that ∞ is not among them. In this paper, we study a class of Ruelle dynamical zeta functions related to uniformly expanding maps on Cantor sets. We show that under a non-local integrability condition, the zeta function enjoys a non-vanishing analytic continuation in a strip on the left of the line of absolute convergence. Applying these results to Fuchsian Schottky groups and Julia sets yields precise asymptotics of the number of closed geodesics for convex co-compact surfaces and the distribution of periodic points for a family of Cantor-like Julia sets.  相似文献

The paper first gives sufficient conditions on the criticalpoints and the Schwarzian derivative of a real rational functionR such that the Julia set of R is . Further, it is shown that under mild conditions on another realrational function with possibly non-empty Fatou set, the Julia set of R is the whole Riemann sphere again. Then familiesof rational functions are given whose Julia set is and whose critical points are not necessarily preperiodic.Concrete examples were previously available only for the preperiodiccase. Finally, it is demonstrated that the methods presentedalso apply to the construction of polynomials whose Julia setsare dendrites and whose critical points in the Julia set arenot necessarily preperiodic.  相似文献

A perturbed Cantor set (without the uniform boundedness condition away from zero of contraction ratios) whose upper Cantor dimension and lower Cantor dimension coincide has its Hausdorff dimension of the same value of Cantor dimensions. We will show this using an energy theory instead of Frostman's density lemma which was used for the case of the perturbed Cantor set with the uniform boundedness condition. At the end, we will give a nontrivial example of such a perturbed Cantor set. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In this paper we consider some families of random Cantor sets on the line and investigate the question whether the condition that the sum of Hausdorff dimension is larger than one implies the existence of interior points in the difference set of two independent copies. We prove that this is the case for the so called Mandelbrot percolation. On the other hand the same is not always true if we apply a slightly more general construction of random Cantor sets. We also present a complete solution for the deterministic case. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 2008  相似文献

We construct logistic maps whose restriction to the ω-limit set of its critical point is a minimal Cantor system having a prescribed number of distinct ergodic and invariant probability measures. In fact, we show that every metrizable Choquet simplex whose set of extreme points is compact and totally disconnected can be realized as the set of invariant probability measures of a minimal Cantor system corresponding to the restriction of a logistic map to the ω-limit set of its critical point. Furthermore, we show that such a logistic map f can be taken so that each such invariant measure has zero Lyapunov exponent and is an equilibrium state of f for the potential −ln |f′|.  相似文献

The Fatou-Julia iteration theory of rational functions has been extended to uniformly quasiregular mappings in higher dimension by various authors, and recently some results of Fatou-Julia type have also been obtained for non-uniformly quasiregular maps. The purpose of this paper is to extend the iteration theory of transcendental entire functions to the quasiregular setting. As no examples of uniformly quasiregular maps of transcendental type are known, we work without the assumption of uniform quasiregularity. Here the Julia set is defined as the set of all points such that the complement of the forward orbit of any neighbourhood has capacity zero. It is shown that for maps which are not of polynomial type, the Julia set is non-empty and has many properties of the classical Julia set of transcendental entire functions.  相似文献

§ 1 IntroductionThe book[1 ] and the references therein show thatthe structure of arithmetic sums ofCantor sets is relevantto natural questions in smooth dynamics.Palis and Takens[1 ] askedabout the structure of the sums of two Cantor sets and conjectured that“typically” theyhave either zero Lebesgue measure or contained intervals. In 1 997,Solomyka[2 ] showedthatfor eachγ∈ 0 ,12 ,the set Kγ+Kλ(where Kλ,Kγis the middle-α Cantorset forα=1 -2λ or 1 -2γ) of two centered Cantor s…  相似文献

We consider non-autonomous iteration which is a generalization of standard polynomial iteration where we deal with Julia sets arising from composition sequences for arbitrarily chosen polynomials with uniformly bounded degrees and coefficients. In this paper, we look at examples where all the critical points escape to infinity. In the classical case, any example of this type must be hyperbolic and there can be only one Fatou component, namely the basin at infinity. This result remains true in the non-autonomous case if we also require that the dynamics on the Julia set be hyperbolic or semi-hyperbolic. However, in general it fails and we exhibit three counterexamples of sequences of quadratic polynomials all of whose critical points escape but which have bounded Fatou components.  相似文献

We consider the class of elliptic functions whose critical points in the Julia set are eventually mapped onto ∞. This paper is a continuation of our previous papers, namely [11] and [12]. We study the geometry and ergodic properties of this class of elliptic functions. In particular, we obtain a lower bound on the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set that is bigger than the estimate proved in [11]. Let h be the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set of f. We construct an atomless h-conformal measure m and prove the existence of a (unique up to a multiplicative constant) σ-finite f-invariant measure μ equivalent to m. The measure μ is ergodic and conservative.  相似文献
