In algebraic topology it is well known that, using the Mayer–Vietoris sequence, the homology of a space X can be studied by splitting X into subspaces A and B and computing the homology of A, B, and AB. A natural question is: To what extent does persistent homology benefit from a similar property? In this paper we show that persistent homology has a Mayer–Vietoris sequence that is generally not exact but only of order 2. However, we obtain a Mayer–Vietoris formula involving the ranks of the persistent homology groups of X, A, B, and AB plus three extra terms. This implies that persistent homological features of A and B can be found either as persistent homological features of X or of AB. As an application of this result, we show that persistence diagrams are able to recognize an occluded shape by showing a common subset of points.  相似文献

A criterion for the classification of Bott towers is presented, i.e., two Bott towers B *(A) and B *(A′) are isomorphic if and only if the matrices A and A′ are equivalent. The equivalence relation is defined by two operations on matrices. And it is based on the observation that any Bott tower B *(A) is uniquely determined by its structure matrix A, which is a strictly upper triangular integer matrix. The classification of Bott towers is closely related to the cohomological rigidity problem for both Bott towers and Bott manifolds.  相似文献

The article is devoted to the theory of elliptic functions of level n. An elliptic function of level n determines a Hirzebruch genus called an elliptic genus of level n. Elliptic functions of level n are also of interest because they are solutions of the Hirzebruch functional equations. The elliptic function of level 2 is the Jacobi elliptic sine function, which determines the famous Ochanine–Witten genus. It is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2 ? v2)/(uB(v) ? vB(u)), B(0) = 1. The elliptic function of level 3 is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2A(v) ? v2A(u))/(uA(v)2 ? vA(u)2), A(0) = 1, A″(0) = 0. In the present study we show that the elliptic function of level 4 is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2A(v) ? v2A(u))/(uB(v) ? vB(u)), where A(0) = B(0) = 1 and for B′(0) = A″(0) = 0, A′(0) = A1, and B″(0) = 2B2 the following relation holds: (2B(u) + 3A1u)2 = 4A(u)3 ? (3A12 ? 8B2)u2A(u)2. To prove this result, we express the elliptic function of level 4 in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic functions.  相似文献

We define twisted Frobenius extensions of graded superrings. We develop equivalent definitions in terms of bimodule isomorphisms, trace maps, bilinear forms, and dual sets of generators. The motivation for our study comes from categorification, where one is often interested in the adjointness properties of induction and restriction functors. We show that A is a twisted Frobenius extension of B if and only if induction of B-modules to A-modules is twisted shifted right adjoint to restriction of A-modules to B-modules. A large (non-exhaustive) class of examples is given by the fact that any time A is a Frobenius graded superalgebra, B is a graded subalgebra that is also a Frobenius graded superalgebra, and A is projective as a left B-module, then A is a twisted Frobenius extension of B.  相似文献

In this short note,we consider the perturbation of compact quantum metric spaces.We first show that for two compact quantum metric spaces(A,P) and(B,Q) for which A and B are subspaces of an order-unit space C and P and Q are Lip-norms on A and B respectively,the quantum Gromov–Hausdorff distance between(A,P) and(B,Q) is small under certain conditions.Then some other perturbation results on compact quantum metric spaces derived from spectral triples are also given.  相似文献

A classical tensor product \({A \otimes B}\) of complete lattices A and B, consisting of all down-sets in \({A \times B}\) that are join-closed in either coordinate, is isomorphic to the complete lattice Gal(A,B) of Galois maps from A to B, turning arbitrary joins into meets. We introduce more general kinds of tensor products for closure spaces and for posets. They have the expected universal property for bimorphisms (separately continuous maps or maps preserving restricted joins in the two components) into complete lattices. The appropriate ingredient for quantale constructions is here distributivity at the bottom, a generalization of pseudocomplementedness. We show that the truncated tensor product of a complete lattice B with itself becomes a quantale with the closure of the relation product as multiplication iff B is pseudocomplemented, and that the tensor product has a unit element iff B is atomistic. The pseudocomplemented complete lattices form a semicategory in which the hom-set between two objects is their tensor product. The largest subcategory of that semicategory has as objects the atomic boolean complete lattices, which is equivalent to the category of sets and relations. More general results are obtained for closure spaces and posets.  相似文献

We prove that the extension of a given support τ-tilting B-module is a support τ-tilting A-module; and, conversely, the restriction of a given support τ-tilting A-module is a support τ-tilting B-module. A large scale nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equation XCX ? XE ? AX + B = 0 arising in transport theory is considered, where the n × n coefficient matrices B,C are symmetric and low-ranked and A, E are rank one updates of nonsingular diagonal matrices. By introducing a balancing strategy and setting appropriate initial matrices carefully, we can simplify the large-scale structure-preserving doubling algorithm (SDA_ls) for this special equation. We give modified large-scale structure-preserving doubling algorithm, which can reduce the flop count of original SDA_ls by half. Numerical experiments illustrate the effectiveness of our method.  相似文献

Consider two F q -subspaces A and B of a finite field, of the same size, and let A ?1 denote the set of inverses of the nonzero elements of A. The author proved that A ?1 can only be contained in A if either A is a subfield, or A is the set of trace zero elements in a quadratic extension of a field. Csajbók refined this to the following quantitative statement: if A ?1 ? B, then the bound |A ?1B| ≤ 2|B|/q ? 2 holds. He also gave examples showing that his bound is sharp for |B| ≤ q 3. Our main result is a proof of the stronger bound |A ?1B| ≤ |B|/q · (1 + O d (q ?1/2)), for |B| = q d with d > 3. We also classify all examples with |B| ≤ q 3 which attain equality or near-equality in Csajbók’s bound.  相似文献

We investigate semiconjugate rational functions, that is rational functions A, B related by the functional equation \({A \circ X = X \circ B}\), where X is a rational function. We show that if A and B is a pair of such functions, then either A can be obtained from B by a certain iterative process, or A and B can be described in terms of orbifolds of non-negative Euler characteristic on the Riemann sphere.  相似文献

Let A and B be C*-algebras, let A be separable, and let B be σ-unital and stable. We introduce the notion of translation invariance for asymptotic homomorphisms from S A = C0(?) ? A to B and show that the Connes—Higson construction applied to any extension of A by B is homotopic to a translation invariant asymptotic homomorphism. In the other direction we give a construction which produces extensions of A by B from a translation invariant asymptotic homomorphism. This leads to our main result that the homotopy classes of extensions coincide with the homotopy classes of translation invariant asymptotic homomorphisms.  相似文献

R. Jin showed that whenever A and B are sets of integers having positive upper Banach density, the sumset A+B:= «a+b: a ∈ A, b ∈ B» is piecewise syndetic. This result was strengthened by Bergelson, Furstenberg, and Weiss to conclude that A+B must be piecewise Bohr. We generalize the latter result to cases where A has Banach density 0, giving a new proof of the previous results in the process.  相似文献

We call the pair (A, B) a θ-pair for H in G if: (i) \({\langle H, A\rangle=G}\) and B = (AH) G ; (ii) if A 1/B is a proper subgroup of A/B and \({{A_1/B \vartriangleleft G/B}}\), then \({G\neq \langle H, A_1\rangle}\). Let H be a weak Hopf algebra, A a right weak H-comodule algebra, and B the subalgebra of the H-coinvariant elements of A. Let A/B be a right weak H-Galois extension. In this paper, a spectral sequence for Ext which yields an estimate for the global dimension of A in terms of the corresponding data for H and B is constructed. Next, the relationship between the finitely presented dimensions of A and its subalgebra B are given. Further, the case in which A is an n-Gorenstein algebra is studied.  相似文献

We prove that for any \({A,B\in\mathbb{R}^{n\times n}}\) such that each matrix S satisfying min(A, B) ≤ S ≤ max(A, B) is nonsingular, all four matrices A ?1 B, AB ?1, B ?1 A and BA ?1 are P-matrices. A practical method for generating P-matrices is drawn from this result.  相似文献
