Following photodissociation of CH2Br2 at 248 nm, Br2 molecular elimination is detected by using a tunable laser beam, as crossed perpendicular to the photolyzing laser beam in a ring-down cell, probing the Br2 fragment in the B 3Piou+ -X 1Sigmag+ transition. The nascent vibrational population is obtained, yielding a population ratio of Br2(v = 1)Br2(v = 0) to be 0.7 +/- 0.2. The quantum yield for the Br2 elimination reaction is determined to be 0.2 +/- 0.1. Nevertheless, when CH2Br2 is prepared in a supersonic molecular beam under cold temperature, photofragmentation gives no Br2 detectable in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. With the aid of ab initio potential energy calculations, a plausible pathway is proposed. Upon excitation to the 1B1 or 3B1 state, C-Br bond elongation may change the molecular symmetry of Cs and enhance the resultant 1 1,3A'-X 1A' (or 1 1,3B1-X 1A1 as C2v is used) coupling to facilitate the process of internal conversion, followed by asynchronous concerted photodissociation. Temperature dependence measurements lend support to the proposed pathway.  相似文献

Elimination of molecular bromine is probed in the B (3)Pi(ou) (+)<--X (1)Sigma(g) (+) transition following photodissociation of CHBr(2)Cl at 248 nm by using cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy. The quantum yield for the Br(2) elimination reaction is determined to be 0.05+/-0.03. The nascent vibrational population ratio of Br(2)(v=1)Br(2)(v=0) is obtained to be 0.5+/-0.2. A supersonic beam of CHBr(2)Cl is similarly photofragmented and the resulting Br atoms are monitored with a velocity map ion-imaging detection, yielding spatial anisotropy parameters of 1.5 and 1.1 with photolyzing wavelengths of 234 and 267 nm, respectively. The results justify that the excited state promoted by 248 nm should have an A(") symmetry. Nevertheless, when CHBr(2)Cl is prepared in a supersonic molecular beam under a cold temperature, photofragmentation gives no Br(2) detectable in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. A plausible pathway via internal conversion is proposed with the aid of ab initio potential energy calculations. Temperature dependence measurements lend support to the proposed pathway. The production rates of Br(2) between CHBr(2)Cl and CH(2)Br(2) are also compared to examine the chlorine-substituted effect.  相似文献

A primary dissociation channel of Br(2) elimination is detected following a single-photon absorption of (COBr)(2) at 248 nm by using cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy. The technique contains two laser beams propagating in a perpendicular configuration. The tunable laser beam along the axis of the ring-down cell probes the Br(2) fragment in the B(3)Π(ou)(+)-X(1)Σ(g)(+) transition. The measurements of laser energy- and pressure-dependence and addition of a Br scavenger are further carried out to rule out the probability of Br(2) contribution from a secondary reaction. By means of spectral simulation, the ratio of nascent vibrational population for v = 0, 1, and 2 levels is evaluated to be 1:(0.65 ± 0.09):(0.34 ± 0.07), corresponding to a Boltzmann vibrational temperature of 893 ± 31 K. The quantum yield of the ground state Br(2) elimination reaction is determined to be 0.11 ± 0.06. With the aid of ab initio potential energy calculations, the pathway of molecular elimination is proposed on the energetic ground state (COBr)(2) via internal conversion. A four-center dissociation mechanism is followed synchronously or sequentially yielding three fragments of Br(2) + 2CO. The resulting Br(2) is anticipated to be vibrationally hot. The measurement of a positive temperature effect supports the proposed mechanism.  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of CH(2)Br(2) was investigated near 234 and 267 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion velocity imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton (REMPI) ionization scheme was utilized to obtain the angular and translational energy distributions of the nascent Br ((2)P(3/2)) and Br* ((2)P(1/2)) atoms. The obtained translational energy distributions of Br and Br* are found consist of two components which should be come from the radical channel and secondary dissociation process, respectively. It is suggested that the symmetry reduction from C(2v) to C(s) during photodissociation invokes a non-adiabatic coupling between the 2B(1) and A(1) states. Consequently, the higher internal energy distribution of Br channel than Br* formation channel and the broader translational energy distribution of the former are presumed correlate with a variety of vibrational excitation disposal at the crossing point resulting from the larger non-adiabatic crossing from 2B(1) to A(1) state than the reverse crossing. Moreover, the measured anisotropy parameter beta indicate that fragments recoil along the Br-Br direction mostly in the photodissociation.  相似文献

Quantum chemical calculations of CF(3)Br and the CF(3) radical are performed using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TDDFT). Molecular structures, vibrational frequencies, dipole moment, bond dissociation energy, and vertical excitation energies of CF(3)Br are calculated and compared with available experimental results. The performance of six hybrid and five hybrid meta functionals in DFT and TDDFT calculations are evaluated. The ωB97X, B3PW91, and M05-2X functionals give very good results for molecular structures, vibrational frequencies, and vertical excitation energies, respectively. The ωB97X functional calculates well the dipole moment of CF(3)Br. B3LYP, one of the most widely used functionals, does not perform well for calculations of the C-Br bond length, bond dissociation energy, and vertical excitation energies. Potential energy curves of the low-lying excited states of CF(3)Br are obtained using the multiconfigurational spin-orbit ab initio method. The crossing point between 2A(1) and 3E states is located near the C-Br bond length of 2.45 ?. Comparison with CH(3)Br shows that fluorination does not alter the location of the crossing point. The relation between the calculated potential energy curves and recent experimental result is briefly discussed.  相似文献

Following single-photon dissociation of CH(2)I(2) at 248 nm, I(2) molecular elimination is detected by using cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy. The technique comprises two laser beams propagating in a perpendicular configuration, in which a tunable laser beam along the axis of the ring-down cell probes the I(2) fragment in the B (3)Π(ou)(+) - X (1)Σ(g)(+) transition. The nascent vibrational populations for v = 0, 1, and 2 levels are obtained with a population ratio of 1:(0.65 ± 0.10):(0.30 ± 0.05), corresponding to a Boltzmann-like vibrational temperature of 544 ± 73 K. The quantum yield of the ground state I(2) elimination reaction is determined to be 0.0040 ± 0.0025. With the aid of ab initio potential energy calculations, the pathway of molecular elimination is proposed on the energetic ground state CH(2)I(2) via internal conversion, followed by asynchronous three-center dissociation. A positive temperature effect supports the proposed mechanism.  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of vinyl bromide and perfluorovinyl bromide have been investigated at 234 nm using a photofragment ion imaging technique coupled with a state-selective [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization scheme. The nascent Br atoms stem from the primary C-Br bond dissociation leading to the formation of C2H3(X) and Br(2Pj;j=1/2,3/2). The obtained translational energy distributions have been well fitted by a single Boltzmann and three Gaussian functions. Boltzmann component has not been observed in the perfluorovinyl bromide. The repulsive 3A'(n,sigma *) state has been considered as the origin of the highest Gaussian components. Middle translational energy components with Gaussian shapes are produced from the 1A"(pi,sigma*) and/or 3A"(pi,sigma*) which are very close in energy. Low-energy Gaussian components are produced via predissociation from the 3A'(pi,pi*) state. The assignments have also been supported by the recoil anisotropy corresponding to the individual components. It is suggested that intersystem crossing from the triplet states to the ground state has been attributed to the Boltzmann component and the fluorination reduces the probability of this electronic relaxation process.  相似文献

Velocity imaging technique combined with (2 + 1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) has been used to detect the Br fragment in photodissociation of o-, m-, and p-bromofluorobenzene at 266 nm. The branching ratio of ground state Br(2P3/2) is found to be larger than 96%. Its translational energy distributions suggest that the Br fragments are generated via two dissociation channels for all the molecules. The fast route, which is missing in p-bromofluorobenzene detected previously by femtosecond laser spectroscopy, giving rise to an anisotropy parameter of 0.50-0.65, is attributed to a direct dissociation from a repulsive triplet T1(A' ') or T1(B1) state. The slow one with anisotropy parameter close to zero is proposed to stem from excitation of the lowest excited singlet (pi,pi*)state followed by predissociation along a repulsive triplet (pi,sigma*) state localized on the C-Br bond. For the minor product of spin-orbit excited state Br(2P1/2), the dissociating features are similar to those found in Br(2P3/2). Our kinetic and anisotropic features of decomposition obtained in m- and p-bromofluorobenzene are opposed to those by photofragment translational spectroscopy. Discrepancy between different methods is discussed in detail.  相似文献

The interaction of He with Br2 in electronically excited B 3Piu state is investigated using spin-unrestricted single and double coupled-cluster approach with noniterative perturbative treatment of triple excitations. Internal electrons of the Br atom are described by effective core pseudopotentials. The validity of this approach is analyzed by comparing the lowest 2Sigma+ and 2Pi electronic states of the HeBr molecule with those obtained in all electron calculations [J. Chem. Phys. 115, 10438 (2001)]. In this context, we examine the performance of different basis sets and saturation with bond functions. The comparison of theoretical blue-shifts with the experiment provides confidence about the present ab initio calculations. In addition, He-Br results of ab initio calculations at the same level are used to obtain approximate He-Br2 (3Piu) interactions in the framework of the diatomics-in-molecule first order perturbation theory (IDIM-PT1) [J. Chem. Phys. 104, 9913 (1996)]. Overall, the IDIM-PT1 model results show a good agreement with the ab initio ones, being the main difference the sensitivity to the elongation of the Br-Br bond.  相似文献

We present the results of our product branching studies of the OH + C(2)D(4) reaction, beginning at the CD(2)CD(2)OH radical intermediate of the reaction, which is generated by the photodissociation of the precursor molecule BrCD(2)CD(2)OH at 193 nm. Using a crossed laser-molecular beam scattering apparatus with tunable photoionization detection, and a velocity map imaging apparatus with VUV photoionization, we detect the products of the major primary photodissociation channel (Br and CD(2)CD(2)OH), and of the secondary dissociation of vibrationally excited CD(2)CD(2)OH radicals (OH, C(2)D(4)/CD(2)O, C(2)D(3), CD(2)H, and CD(2)CDOH). We also characterize two additional photodissociation channels, which generate HBr + CD(2)CD(2)O and DBr + CD(2)CDOH, and measure the branching ratio between the C-Br bond fission, HBr elimination, and DBr elimination primary photodissociation channels as 0.99:0.0064:0.0046. The velocity distribution of the signal at m/e = 30 upon 10.5 eV photoionization allows us to identify the signal from the vinyl (C(2)D(3)) product, assigned to a frustrated dissociation toward OH + ethene followed by D-atom abstraction. The relative amount of vinyl and Br atom signal shows the quantum yield of this HDO + C(2)D(3) product channel is reduced by a factor of 0.77 ± 0.33 from that measured for the undeuterated system. However, because the vibrational energy distribution of the deuterated radicals is lower than that of the undeuterated radicals, the observed reduction in the water + vinyl product quantum yield likely reflects the smaller fraction of radicals that dissociate in the deuterated system, not the effect of quantum tunneling. We compare these results to predictions from statistical transition state theory and prior classical trajectory calculations on the OH + ethene potential energy surface that evidenced a roaming channel to produce water + vinyl products and consider how the branching to the water + vinyl channel might be sensitive to the angular momentum of the β-hydroxyethyl radicals.  相似文献

An experimental two-color photoionization dynamics study of laser-excited Br2 molecules is presented, combining pulsed visible laser excitation and tunable vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) synchrotron radiation with photoelectron imaging. The X 1Sigmag + -B 3Pi0+u transition in Br2 is excited at 527 nm corresponding predominantly to excitation of the v' = 28 vibrational level in the B 3Pi0+u state. Tunable VUV undulator radiation in the energy range of 8.40-10.15 eV is subsequently used to ionize the excited molecules to the X 2Pi32,12 state of the ion, and the ionic ground state is probed by photoelectron imaging. Similar experiments are performed using single-photon synchrotron ionization in the photon energy range of 10.75-12.50 eV without any laser excitation. Photoelectron kinetic energy distributions are extracted from the photoelectron images. In the case of two-color photoionization using resonant excitation of the intermediate B 3Pi0+u state, a broad distribution of photoelectron kinetic energies is observed, and in some cases even a bimodal distribution, which depends on the VUV photon energy. In contrast, for single-photon ionization, a single nearly Gaussian-shaped distribution is observed, which shifts to higher energy with photon energy. Simulated spectra based on Franck-Condon factors for the transitions Br2(X 1Sigmag+, v" = 0)-Br2 +(X 2Pi12,32, v+) and Br2(B 3Pi0+u, v' = 28)-Br2 +(X 2Pi12,32, v+) are generated. Comparison of these calculated spectra with the measured images suggests that the differences in the kinetic energy distributions for the two ionization processes reflect the different extensions of the vibrational wave functions in the v" = 0 electronic ground state (X 1Sigmag+) versus the electronically and vibrationally excited state (B 3Pi0+u, v' = 28).  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of chloroiodomethane (CH2ICl) at 193 nm has been investigated by employing the photofragment time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometric method. Using tunable vacuum ultraviolet undulator synchrotron radiation for photoionization sampling of nascent photofragments, we have identified four primary dissociation product channels: CH2Cl + I(2P(1/2))/I(2P(3/2)), CH2I + Cl(2P(1/2))/Cl(2P(3/2)), CHI + HCl, and CH2 + ICl. The state-selective detection of I(2P(3/2)) and I(2P(1/2)) has allowed the estimation of the branching ratio for I(2P(1/2)):I(2P(3/2)) to be 0.73:0.27. Theoretical calculations based on the time-dependent density-functional theory have been also made to investigate excited electronic potential-energy surfaces, plausible intermediates, and transition structures involved in these photodissociation reactions. The translation energy distributions derived from the TOF measurements suggest that at least two dissociation mechanisms are operative for these photodissociation processes. One involves the direct dissociation from the 2 1A' state initially formed by 193 nm excitation, leading to significant kinetic-energy releases. For the I-atom and Cl-atom elimination channels, the fragment kinetic-energy releases observed via this direct dissociation mechanism are consistent with those predicted by the impulsive dissociation models. Other mechanisms are likely predissociative or statistical in nature from the lower 1 1A' and 1 1A' states and/or the ground X 1A' state populated by internal conversion from the 2 1A' state. On the basis of the maximum kinetic-energy release for the formation of CH2Cl + I(2P(1/2)), we have obtained a value of 53+/-2 kcal/mol for the 0 K bond dissociation energy of I-CH2Cl. The intermediates and transition structures for the CHI + HCl and CH2 + ICl product channels have been also investigated by ab initio quantum calculations at the MP2(full)/6-311G(d) and B3LYP(full)/6-11G(d) levels of theory. The maximum kinetic-energy releases observed for the CHI + HCl and CH2 + ICl channels are consistent with the interpretation that the formation of CHI and CH2 in their ground triplet states is not favored.  相似文献

Valence electronic excitation spectra are calculated for the H(2)O···Br(2) complex using highly correlated ab initio potentials for both the ground and the valence electronic excited states and a 2-D approximation for vibrational motion. Due to the strong interaction between the O-Br and the Br-Br stretching motions, inclusion of these vibrations is the minimum necessary for the spectrum calculation. A basis set calculation is performed to determine the vibrational wave functions for the ground electronic state and a wave packet simulation is conducted for the nuclear dynamics on the excited state surfaces. The effects of both the spin-orbit interaction and temperature on the spectra are explored. The interaction of Br(2) with a single water molecule induces nearly as large a shift in the spectrum as is observed for an aqueous solution. In contrast, complex formation has a remarkably small effect on the T = 0 K width of the valence bands due to the fast dissociation of the dihalogen bond upon excitation. We therefore conclude that the widths of the spectra in aqueous solution are mostly due to inhomogeneous broadening.  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of 3-bromo-1,1,1-trifluoro-2-propanol (BTFP) and 2-(bromomethyl) hexafluoro-2-propanol (BMHFP) have been studied at 234 nm, and the C-Br bond dissociation investigated using resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometer (REMPI-TOFMS). Br formation is a primary process and occurs on a repulsive surface involving the C-Br bond of BTFP and BMHFP. Polarization dependent time-of-flight profiles were measured, and the translational energy distributions and recoil anisotropy parameters extracted using forward convolution fits. A strong polarization dependence of time-of-flight profiles suggest anisotropic distributions of the Br((2)P(3/2)) and Br((2)P(1/2)) fragments with anisotropy parameter, β, of respectively 0.5 ± 0.2 and 1.2 ± 0.2 for BTFP, and 0.4 ± 0.1 and 1.0 ± 0.3 for BMHFP. The measured velocity distributions consist of a single velocity component. The average translational energies for the Br((2)P(3/2)) and Br((2)P(1/2)) channels are 9.2 ± 1.0 and 7.4 ± 0.9 kcal/mol for BTFP, and 15.4 ± 1.8 and 15.1 ± 2.0 kcal/mol for BMHFP. The relative quantum yields of Br((2)P(3/2)) and Br((2)P(1/2)), which are 0.70 ± 0.14 and 0.30 ± 0.06 in BTFP and 0.81 ± 0.16 and 0.19 ± 0.04 in BMHFP, indicate that the yield of the former is predominant. The measured anisotropy parameters for the Br((2)P(3/2)) and Br((2)P(1/2)) channels suggest that the former channel has almost equal contributions from both the parallel and the perpendicular transitions, whereas the latter channel has a significant contribution from a parallel transition. Non-adiabatic curve crossing plays an important role in the C-Br bond dissociation of both BTFP and BMHFP. The estimated curve crossing probabilities suggest a greater value in BTFP, which explains a greater observed value of the relative quantum yield of Br((2)P(1/2)) in this case.  相似文献

The structural and vibrational properties of the transition state of the N(2)O + X (X = Cl,Br) reactions have been characterized by ab initio methods using density functional theory. We have employed Becke's hybrid functional (B3LYP), and transition state optimizations were performed with 6-31G(d), 6-311G(2d,2p), 6-311+G(3d,2p), and 6-311+G(3df,2p) basis sets. For the chlorine atom reaction the coupled-cluster method (CCSD(T)) with 6-31G(d) basis set was also used. All calculations resulted in transition state structures with a planar cis arrangement of atoms for both reactions. The geometrical parameters of transition states at B3LYP are very similar, and the reaction coordinates involve mainly the breaking of the N-O bond. At CCSD(T)/6-31G(d) level a contribution of the O-Cl forming bond is also observed in the reaction coordinate. In addition, several highly accurate ab initio composite methods of Gaussian-n (G1, G2, G3), their variations (G2(MP2), G3//B3LYP), and complete basis set (CBS-Q, CBS-Q//B3LYP) series of models were applied to compute reaction energetics. All model chemistries predict exothermic reactions. The G3 and G2 methods result in the smallest deviations from experiment, 1.8 and 0 kcal mol(-1), for the enthalpies of reaction for N(2)O reaction with chlorine and bromine, respectively. The G3//B3LYP and G1 methods perform best among the composite methods in predicting energies of the transition state, with a deviation of 1.9 and 3.0 kcal mol(-1), respectively, in the activation energies for the above processes. However, the B3LYP/6-311+G(3df,2p) method gives smaller deviations of 0.4 and -1.0 kcal mol(-1), respectively. The performance of the methodologies applied in predicting transition state energies was analyzed.  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of tert-C(4)H(9)Br and iso-C(4)H(9)Br has been studied at 234 and 265 nm using two-dimensional velocity map imaging technique. The translational energy and angular distributions have been analyzed for Br, Br(*), and tert-C(4)H(9) radical. The energy distribution of Br atom in the photodissociation of tert-C(4)H(9)Br is found to consist of two Gaussian components. The two components are correlated to two independent reaction paths on the excited potential energy surfaces: (1) the high-energy component from the prompt dissociation along the C-Br stretching mode and (2) the low-energy component from the repulsive mode along the C-Br stretching, coupled with some bending motions. For the energy distribution of Br(*) atom in the photodissociation of tert-C(4)H(9)Br, a third multiphoton dissociative ionization channel is observed at 265 nm in addition to the two energy components corresponding to channels (1) and (2). The energy distributions of Br and Br(*) atoms in the photodissociation of iso-C(4)H(9)Br can be fitted using only one Gaussian function indicating a single formation channel. Relative quantum yields for Br((2)P(32)) at 234 and 265 nm in the photodissociation of tert-C(4)H(9)Br are measured to be 0.76 and 0.65, respectively. For iso-C(4)H(9)Br, the measured value is Phi(234 nm)(Br)=0.81. The contribution of bending modes to Br and Br(*) is much more obvious in the photodissociation of tert-C(4)H(9)Br than in iso-C(4)H(9)Br.  相似文献

The photodissociation of CH2XCH2Y (X,Y=Br,Cl) through absorption of 193 nm photons was investigated using product translational spectroscopy. No stable CH2BrCH2 or CH2ClCH2 was detected. The recorded time-of-flight spectra indicate that these internally excited radicals dissociated into Y+C2H4 in a concerted reaction with the first C-X bond rupture. Product anisotropy implies that the overall reaction time for three-body formation is in a fraction of rotational period. According to an asynchronous concerted reaction model, the measured spectra were simulated with product translational energy distributions coupled by asymmetric angular distributions. For the mixed halide, CH2BrCH2Cl, triple products Br+Cl+C2H4 can be originated from the cleavage of either the C-Br bond or the C-Cl bond. The results are discussed and where appropriate, comparisons with previous investigations of the related molecules are included.  相似文献

The photodissociation of CF(3)I at 304 nm has been studied using long time-delayed core-sampling photofragment translational spectroscopy. Due to its capability of detecting the kinetic energy distribution of iodine fragments with high resolution, it is able to directly assign the vibrational state distribution of CF(3) fragments. The vibrational state distributions of CF(3) fragments in the I(*)((2)P(12)) channel, i.e., (3)Q(0+) state, have a propensity of the nu(2) (') umbrella mode with a maximum distribution at the vibrational ground state. For the I((2)P(32)) channel, i.e., (1)Q(1)<--(3)Q(0+), the excitation of the nu(2) (') umbrella mode accounts for the majority of the vibrational excitation of the CF(3) fragments. The 1 nu(1) (') (symmetric CF stretch) +nnu(2) (') combination modes, which are associated with the major progression of the nu(2) (') umbrella mode, are observed for the photodissociation of CF(3)I at the I channel, i.e., (3)Q(1) state. The bond dissociation energy of the CI bond of CF(3)I is determined to be D(0)(CF(3)-I)相似文献

Complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) and multiconfiguration second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) calculations with an ANO-RCC basis were performed for the 1(2)A', 1(2)A", 2(2)A', and 2(2)A" states of the CH3Br+ ion. The 1(2)A' state is predicted to be the ground state. The 2(2)A' state is predicted to be a bound state. The adiabatic and vertical excitation energies and the relative energies at the molecular geometry were calculated, and the energetic results for 2(2)A' and 2(2)A" are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data. Potential energy curves (PECs) for Br-loss and H-loss dissociations from the four C(s) states were calculated at the CASPT2//CASSCF level and the electronic states of the CH3(+) and CH2Br(+) ions as the dissociation products were determined by checking the relative energies and geometries of the asymptote products along the PECs. In the Br-loss dissociation, the 1(2)A', 1(2)A", and 2(2)A' states correlate with CH3(+) (X1A1') and the 2(2)A" state correlates with CH3(+) (1(3)A"). The energy increases monotonically with the R(C-Br) value along the four Br-loss PECs. In the H-loss dissociation the 1(2)A', 1(2)A", 2(2)A', and 2(2)A" states correlate with the X(1)A(1), 1(3)A", 1(3)A', and 1(1)A" states (1(3)A' lying above 1(1)A") of CH2Br(+), respectively. Along the 2(2)A" H-loss PEC there is an energy barrier and the CASSCF wave functions at large R(C-H) values have shake-up ionization character. Along the 2(2)A' H-loss PEC there are an energy barrier and a minimum. At the end of the present paper we present a comprehensive review on the electronic states and the X-loss and H-loss dissociations of the CH(3)X(+) (X = F, Cl, and Br) ions on the basis of our previous studies and the present study.  相似文献
