Heat and mass transfer effects in the three-dimensional mixed convection flow of a viscoelastic fluid with internal heat source/sink and chemical reaction have been investigated in the present work. The flow generation is because of an exponentially stretching surface. Magnetic field normal to the direction of flow is considered. Convective conditions at the surface are also encountered. Appropriate similarity transformations are utilized to reduce the boundary layer partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations. The homotopy analysis method is used to develop the solution expressions. Impacts of different controlling parameters such as ratio parameter, Hartman number, internal heat source/sink, chemical reaction, mixed convection, concentration buoyancy parameter and Biot numbers on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are analyzed. The local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are sketched and examined.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the flow and heat transfer characteristics for MHD viscoelastic boundary layer flow over an impermeable stretching sheet with space and temperature dependent internal heat generation/absorption (non-uniform heat source/sink), viscous dissipation, thermal radiation and magnetic field due to frictional heating. The flow is generated due to linear stretching of the sheet and influenced by uniform magnetic field, which is applied vertically in the flow region. The governing partial differential equations for the flow and heat transfer are transformed into ordinary differential equations by a suitable similarity transformation. The governing equations with the appropriate conditions are solved exactly. The effects of viscoelastic parameter and magnetic parameter on skin friction and the effects of viscous dissipation, non-uniform heat source/sink and the thermal radiation on heat transfer characteristics for two general cases namely, the prescribed surface temperature (PST) case and the prescribed wall heat flux (PHF) case are presented graphically and discussed. The numerical results for the wall temperature gradient (the Nusselt number) are presented in tables and are discussed.  相似文献

The combined effect of mixed convection with thermal radiation and chemical reaction on MHD flow of viscous and electrically conducting fluid past a vertical permeable surface embedded in a porous medium is analyzed. The heat equation includes the terms involving the radiative heat flux, Ohmic dissipation, viscous dissipation and the internal absorption whereas the mass transfer equation includes the effects of chemically reactive species of first-order. The non-linear coupled differential equations are solved analytically by perturbation technique. The results obtained show that the velocity, temperature and concentration fields are appreciably influenced by the presence of chemical reaction, thermal stratification and magnetic field. It is observed that the effect of thermal radiation and magnetic field is to decrease the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles in the boundary layer. There is also considerable effect of magnetic field and chemical reaction on skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number.  相似文献

In this paper, heat and mass transfer analysis for boundary layer stagnation-point flow over a stretching sheet in a porous medium saturated by a nanofluid with internal heat generation/absorption and suction/blowing is investigated. The governing partial differential equation and auxiliary conditions are converted to ordinary differential equations with the corresponding auxiliary conditions via Lie group analysis. The boundary layer temperature, concentration and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles are then determined numerically. The influences of various relevant parameters, namely, thermophoresis parameter Nt, Brownian motion parameter Nb, Lewis number Le, suction/injection parameter S, permeability parameter k1, source/sink parameter λ and Prandtl parameter Pr on temperature and concentration as well as wall heat flux and wall mass flux are discussed. Comparison with published results is presented.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the study of flow and heat transfer characteristics in the unsteady laminar boundary layer flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over continuously stretching permeable surface in the presence of a non-uniform heat source/sink and thermal radiation. The unsteadiness in the flow and temperature fields is because of the time-dependent stretching velocity and surface temperature. Similarity transformations are used to convert the governing time-dependent nonlinear boundary layer equations for momentum and thermal energy are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations containing Prandtl number, non-uniform heat source/sink parameter, thermal radiation and unsteadiness parameter with appropriate boundary conditions. These equations are solved numerically by applying shooting method using Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method. Comparison of numerical results is made with the earlier published results under limiting cases. The effects of the unsteadiness parameter, thermal radiation, suction/injection parameter, non-uniform heat source/sink parameter on flow and heat transfer characteristics as well as on the local Nusselt number are shown graphically.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer characteristics of a non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid over a flat sheet with a linear velocity in the presence of thermal radiation and non-uniform heat source. The thermal conductivity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The basic equations governing the flow and heat transfer are in the form of partial differential equations, the same have been reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations by applying suitable similarity transformation. The transformed equations are solved analytically by regular perturbation method. Numerical solution of the problem is also obtained by the efficient shooting method, which agrees well with the analytical solution. The effects of various physical parameters such as viscoelastic parameter, Chandrasekhar number, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity parameter, Eckert number, thermal radiation parameter and non-uniform heat source/sink parameters which determine the temperature profiles are shown in several plots and the heat transfer coefficient is tabulated for a range of values of said parameters. Some important findings reported in this work reveals that combined effect of variable thermal conductivity, radiation and non-uniform heat source have significant impact in controlling the rate of heat transfer in the boundary layer region.  相似文献

In this paper, an approximate analytical solution is derived for the flow velocity and temperature due to the laminar, two-dimensional flow of non-Newtonian incompressible visco elastic fluid due to a continuous stretching surface. The surface is stretched with a velocity proportional to the distance $x$ along the surface. The surface is assumed to have either power-law heat flux or power-law temperature distribution. The presence of source/sink and the effect of uniform suction and injection on the flow are considered for analysis. An approximate analytical solution has been obtained using Homotopy Analysis Method(HAM) for various values of visco elastic parameter, suction and injection rates. Optimal values of the convergence control parameters are computed for the flow variables. It was found that the computational time required for averaged residual error calculation is very very small compared to the computation time of exact squared residual errors. The effect of mass transfer parameter, visco elastic parameter, source/sink parameter and the power law index on flow variables such as velocity, temperature profiles, shear stress, heat and mass transfer rates are discussed.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of the effects of first order chemical reaction and radiation on an unsteady MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an accelerated infinite vertical plate with variable temperature and mass transfer. The resulting approximate dimensionless system of governing partial differential equations are integrated in closed form by the Laplace transform technique A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow. Rosseland model of radiation has been chosen in the investigation, the expressions for the velocity field, temperature field and concentration field and skin-friction in the direction of the flow, coefficient of heat transfer and mass flux at the plate have been obtained in non-dimensional form and these are illustrated graphically for various physical parameters involved in the study. Investigation reveals that the fluid velocity is decelerated in the region adjacent to the plate, due to the effect of first order chemical reaction and the rate of heat transfer (from plate to the fluid) decreases due to the absorption of thermal radiation. The results obtained in this work are consistent with physical situation of the problem.

Analytical solutions for heat and mass transfer by laminar flow of a Newtonian, viscous, electrically conducting and heat generation/absorbing fluid on a continuously vertical permeable surface in the presence of a radiation, a first-order homogeneous chemical reaction and the mass flux are reported. The plate is assumed to move with a constant velocity in the direction of fluid flow. A uniform magnetic field acts perpendicular to the porous surface, which absorbs the fluid with a suction velocity varying with time. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved analytically using two-term harmonic and non-harmonic functions. Graphical results for velocity, temperature and concentration profiles of both phases based on the analytical solutions are presented and discussed.  相似文献

The effect of thermal radiation with a regular three-parameter perturbation analysis has been studied for the effects in some free convection flows of Newtonian fluid-saturated porous medium. The effects of the thermal radiation, permeability of the porous medium, pressure stress work and viscous dissipation on the flows and temperature fields have been included in the analysis. Four different vertical flows have been analyzed, those adjacent to an isothermal surface, uniform heat flux surface, a plane plume and flow generated from a horizontal line energy source, and, a vertical adiabatic surface. Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The numerical results of the perturbation analysis for four conditions are solved numerically by the fourth-order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. Numerical values of the main physical quantities are the skin friction and a heat transfer and total heat and mass convected downstream are presented in a tabular form with the parameters characterizing the radiation, permeability of the porous medium, pressure stress work and viscous dissipation. The obtained results are compared and a representative set is displayed graphically to illustrate the influences of the radiation, permeability of the porous medium, pressure stress work and viscous dissipation on the velocity and the temperature profiles.  相似文献

The combined effect of viscous dissipation and joule heating on steady Magnetohydrodynamic heat and mass transfer flow of viscous incompressible fluid over an inclined radiate isothermal permeable surface in the presence of thermophoresis is studied. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number and the local Stanton number are displayed graphically for various physical parameters. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and the results are found to be in very good agreement. Results show that rate of heat transfer is sensitive for increasing angle of inclination parameter for the case of fluid injection and it decreases with the increase of magnetic field parameter and Eckert number.  相似文献

The effect of chemical reaction and variable viscosity on hydromagnetic mixed convection heat and mass transfer for Hiemenz flow through porous media has been studied in the presence of radiation and magnetic field. The plate surface is embedded in a uniform Darcian porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or blowing and has a power-law variation of both the wall temperature and concentration. The similarity solution is used to transform the system of partial differential equations, describing the problem under consideration, into a boundary value problem of coupled ordinary differential equations, and an efficient numerical technique is implemented to solve the reduced system. Numerical calculations are carried out, for various values of the dimensionless parameters of the problem, which include a variable viscosity, chemical reactions, radiation, magnetic field, porous medium and power index of the wall temperature parameters. Comparisons with previously published works are performed and excellent agreement between the results is obtained. The results are presented graphically and the conclusion is drawn that the flow field and other quantities of physical interest are significantly influenced by these parameters.  相似文献

We design a suitable fitted operator finite difference method (FOFDM) to solve a model of an unsteady transient magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) free convective and mass transfer flow with thermophoresis past an inclined permeable plate in the presence of chemical reaction, thermal radiation, and temperature dependent viscosity. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations in the current model are transformed by a suitable similarity transformation into a system of ordinary differential equations which are then solved numerically using the FOFDM. The superiority of the proposed FOFDM over the standard finite difference method is proved theoretically and numerically. Furthermore, we illustrate the effect of various parameters on the temperature, concentration and velocity profiles using the FOFDM. It is observed that an increase in the viscosity parameter leads to a decrease in the temperature and an increase in the velocity. Results also show that an increase in the thermophoretic parameter leads to a decrease in the concentration. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This research focuses on the heat source/sink, chemical reaction, and thermophoretic particle deposition in the influence of hybrid nanofluid over a moving thin needle subjected to a magnetic field. Using the appropriate transformations, a group of nonlinear partial differential equations may be converted to ordinary differential equations. Additionally, with the aid of computational software, the RKF-45 approach is used for the numerical assessment, as well as the shooting operation. It should be mentioned that the results' approval demonstrates a strong association with the previous findings. The resulting graphs mainly explain the fundamental characteristics of hybrid nanofluids and nanofluids, as well as the consequences of different restrictions. An increase in needle size enhances the velocity profile, temperature profile, and concentration profile. The radial and axial velocity profiles are reduced when the magnetic constraint is increased, whereas the thermal and concentration patterns are reversed. Improved heat source-sink as well as Biot number values will enhance the thermal profile. The concentration profiles will decrease due to reaction rate restrictions and thermophoretic limits. The inclusion of solid volume fraction reduces surface drag forces while increasing the rate of mass transfer. In most circumstances, hybrid nanofluid plays a prominent role than nanofluid.  相似文献

The present paper deals with the effect of surface mass transfer on MHD mixed convection flow past a heated vertical flat permeable surface in the presence of thermophoresis, radiative heat flux and heat source/sink. Usual similarity transformations are introduced to obtain similarity solution, using regular perturbation technique. To observe physical insight and interesting aspects of the problem in the presence of thermophoresis, the non-dimensional velocity, temperature and concentration field are numerically studied and displayed graphically for pertinent parameters. It is observed that the thermophoresis has dominant effect on mass transfer mechanism in particle deposition process. The model finds applications in studying particulate deposition on turbine blades, removing small particles from gas streams and determining chemical vapor deposition rate in chemical industries.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the flow of a compressible (density‐gradient‐dependent) non‐linear fluid down an inclined plane, subject to radiation boundary condition. The convective heat transfer is also considered where a source term, similar to the Arrhenius type reaction, is included. The non‐dimensional forms of the equations are solved numerically and the competing effects of conduction, dissipation, heat generation and radiation are discussed. The effects of temperature dependent viscosity and non-uniform heat source/sink on non-Darcy MHD mixed convection boundary layer flow over a vertical stretching sheet embedded in a fluid-saturated porous media is studied in this paper. Boundary layer equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations using self-similarity transformation which are then solved numerically using fifth-order Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method with shooting technique for various values of the governing parameters. The effects of variable viscosity, porosity, electric field parameter, non-uniform heat source/sink parameters, Soret number and Schmidt number on concentration profiles are analyzed and discussed. Favorable comparisons with previously published work on various special cases of the problem are obtained. Numerical results for variation of the local Sherwood number with buoyancy parameter, Schmidt number, and Soret number are reported graphically to show some interesting aspects of the physical parameters.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the momentum and heat transfer characteristics in an incompressible electrically conducting non-Newtonian boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer characteristics are converted into highly non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. The effect of variable fluid viscosity, Magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity, heat source/sink parameter and thermal radiation parameter are analyzed for velocity, temperature fields, and wall temperature gradient. The resultant coupled highly non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by employing a shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity, respectively, assumed to vary as an inverse and linear function of temperature. The analysis reveals that the wall temperature profile decreases significantly due to increase in magnetic field parameter. Further, it is noticed that the skin friction of the sheet decreases due to increase in the Magnetic parameter of the flow characteristics.  相似文献
