Magnetic and structural properties in [MnPd/Co]10 multilayers deposited onto Si(1 1 1) substrates have been investigated. The dependences of anisotropy and exchange bias on the thicknesses of both MnPd and Co layers have been studied. In most of the samples, the out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy and both large out-of-plane and in-plane exchange biases have been observed at cryogenic temperature below the blocking temperature TB≈240 K. With appropriate MnPd and Co thicknesses, we have obtained samples with a large out-of-plane exchange bias along with a large out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy. The origin of the out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy in the samples has been suggested to be due to the formation of CoPd interfacial alloys which have tensile in-plane strains, while the spin structure of the antiferromagnetic layer at the interface which is believed to be responsible for exchange bias may be the same as that of the bulk material. Also, the present study shows that the interplay between the out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy and exchange bias is evident in our multilayers and plays an important role in the out-of-plane exchange-bias mechanism.  相似文献

We propose a method for determination of the distribution function P(j) of the coupling energy density j in polycrystalline textured ferromagnetic (F)/antiferromagnetic (AF) film systems. P(j) governs the entire film coupling J and the exchange bias field He and was not measurable until now. The method is verified by torquemetry in a high magnetic field and by reversing its rotation sense. The transition to a new magnetic steady state after rotation reversal is analyzed within a Stoner–Wohlfarth model including thermal relaxation. This transition is completed earlier for strongly coupled grains than for grains with smaller j, which is reflected in the torque curves. We determined P(j) for a sputtered NiFe(16 nm)/IrMn(0.8 nm) film at T=50 K in the hysteretic range of coupling energies and found that P strongly decreases for increasing j.  相似文献

We have studied the Exchange Bias (EB) effect in nanocomposite films consisting of Fe nanoparticles (mean size ∼1.9 nm) embedded in an antiferromagnetic Mn matrix. They were produced by co-deposition through a gas aggregation cluster source and molecular beam epitaxy and have different Fe volume filling fractions (2.2% and 24.8%). The exchange field, higher in the sample with higher Fe concentration (at T=5 K, Hex∼460 Oe for 24.8% and ∼310 Oe for 2.2% ), in both the samples decreases with increasing T, finally disappearing at T∼40 K. The EB properties have been studied in conjunction with results on the thermal dependence of the magnetic coercivity, zero-field-cooled and field-cooled magnetization and thermoremanence. The different Fe content strongly affects the magnetothermal properties, featuring superparamagnetic relaxation in the diluted sample and a reentrant ferromagnet-type transition in the concentrated one. Hence, the EB properties of the two samples have been discussed in consideration of such peculiarities of the magnetic behavior and highlighting the role of the Mn matrix.  相似文献

Exchange bias (EB) and magnetic properties of ferrimagnetic (FI) NiFe2O4 and antiferromagnetic (AFM) NiO bulk composites, prepared by a chemical co-precipitation and post-thermal decomposition method from Fe-doped NiO matrix, have been investigated. Enhanced coercivities and shifted hysteresis loops are still observed for these samples after field cooling. But the vertical magnetization shifts are not observed. In comparison with the bulk samples, a NiO/10% NiFe2O4 nanocomposite was also prepared via direct mixture, in which both the horizontal and vertical shift in the hysteresis loops are observed at 10 K. The observed phenomena are explained in terms of interfacial exchange interaction between the two phases and the finite-size effect, respectively.  相似文献

We have measured positive exchange bias in a Ni80Fe20/NixFe1−xO thin-film nanocrystallite system. A series of solid solution NixFe1−xO 40 nm thick films capped with 25 nm thick Ni80Fe20 were deposited using a range of %O2/Ar bombardment energies (i.e. End-Hall voltages). Proper tuning of the deposition conditions results in a Ni80Fe20/NixFe1−xO (30%O2/Ar) based bilayer that exhibits a positive exchange bias loop shift of Hex∼60 Oe at 150 K.  相似文献

Single-crystal Ni films were made by the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method on Si(1 0 0) and Si(1 1 0) substrates, respectively, with an 100 Å thick Ag buffer layer. The growth temperature TS was 270 °C, and the film thickness t was 500 Å. From reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) patterns, the crystalline symmetries of the two films are clear and as expected. Intrinsic coercivities, HC(1 0 0) and HC(1 1 0), are plotted as a function of the angle of rotation ? around the crystal axes [1 0 0] and [1 1 0], respectively. The results show that both HC(1 0 0) and HC(1 1 0) exhibit mixed features of the crystalline (KC) and the induced uniaxial magnetic (Ku) anisotropies. Ku is the magneto-elastic energy, due to lattice mismatch at the Ni/Ag interface. Moreover, the crystalline anisotropy fields, HK(1 0 0) and HK(1 1 0), and the induced anisotropy filed, Hu, can be calculated as a function of ?, respectively. Then, each HC curve is fitted by the equation: HC = Ho + HK + Hu, where Ho is the isotropic pinning field. Meanwhile, domain structures were examined by the Bitter method, using Ferrofluid 707. On the Ni(1 0 0) film, we observed the charged cross-tie walls, and on the Ni(1 1 0) film, the un-charged Bloch walls.  相似文献

We present herein a comparison of the magnetic properties of bulk ceramics and thin films of the ferrimagnetic ErCo0.50Mn0.50O3 compound. Epitaxial thin films were deposited onto (1 0 0) SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed-laser ablation while bulk ceramics were prepared by solid state reaction. When cooling under low applied fields, a spin reversal is observed in both thin film and bulk due to the competition between two magnetic sublattices (Co/Mn and Er) coupled by a negative exchange interaction. Original features are observed in the M(H) loops for bulk materials: abrupt jumps at 4 T due to a reorientation of domains, while in the low field region, the increasing and decreasing branches of the magnetization intersect each other. In the thin film, the ordering temperature increased from 69 to 75 K, and the ZFC anomaly (AF transition) became sharper, compared to the bulk specimen. The oxygen content and the microstructure are crucial to observe the intersection of the magnetization branches.  相似文献

Dilute (3.8 at.%) cobalt-doped ZnO thin films are deposited on LiTaO3 (LT) substrates with three different orientations [LT(1 1 0), LT(0 1 2) and LT(0 1 8)] by direct current reactive magnetron co-sputtering. The experimental results indicate that Co atoms with 2+ chemical valence are successfully incorporated into the ZnO host matrix on various oriented substrates, and the substrate orientations have a profound influence on the crystal growth and magnetization of Co:ZnO films. A large magnetic moment of 2.42μB/Co at room temperature is obtained in the film deposited on LT(0 1 2), while the corresponding values of the other films deposited on LT(1 1 0) and LT(0 1 8) are 1.21μB/Co and 0.65μB/Co, respectively. Furthermore, the crystal growth mode of Co:ZnO films on various oriented LT, the relationship between the microstructures and corresponding ferromagnetic properties are also discussed.  相似文献

A systematic study of exchange bias in MnPd/Co and MnPd/Co1−xFex bilayers has been carried out. Very large unidirectional anisotropy constant of 2.2 erg/cm2 and the appearance of double-shifted loops, ascribed to the coexistence of positive and negative exchange bias, have been observed. The dependence of exchange bias, unidirectional anisotropy constant and coercivity on thickness, temperature, annealing regime and Fe content has been investigated and discussed.  相似文献

The complex ac dynamic magnetic susceptibility was used to study the influence of temperature on critical fields in polycrystalline ZnCr2Se4 spinel. An antiferromagnetic order with a Néel temperature TN=20.7 K and a strong ferromagnetic exchange evidenced by a positive Curie-Weiss temperature θCW=55.1 K were established. An increasing static magnetic field shifts TN to lower temperatures while a susceptibility peak at Tm in the paramagnetic region—to higher temperatures. The non-zero and negative values both of the second and third harmonics of susceptibility suggest only a parallel spin coupling in ferromagnetic clusters in the range between the Néel and Curie-Weiss temperatures. Below TN the magnetic field dependence of susceptibility, χac(H), shows two peaks at critical fields Hc1 and Hc2. The values of Hc1 decrease slightly with temperature while the values of Hc2 drop rapidly with temperature. The strong changes of Hc2 temperature induced are mainly responsible for a spin frustration of the re-entrant type in the spinel under study.  相似文献

Magnetic properties of zero field cooled (ZFC) and field cooled (FC) sample of (Mn,Fe)2O3−t nanograins have been investigated by magnetometry (up to 70 kOe) and Mössbauer spectroscopy (up to 60 kOe) in the temperature interval 4.2–300 K. Large horizontal (up to 0.8 kOe) and vertical (up to 80%) shifts of the magnetization hysteresis loops are observed in the FC regime. The obtained results are discussed in terms of exchange interaction between an antiferromagnetic core and a spin-glass-like state of the nanograins boundaries. It is shown that hysteresis loop shifts (horizontal and vertical) depend on the field cooling magnitude, an effect that can be understood by the change of the boundary magnetic structure induced by the external magnetic field. The vertical magnetization shift is described by a phenomenological model, which takes into account the magnetic interaction between the spin-glass like boundary spins and the applied field.  相似文献

We report the optical and magnetic properties of laser-deposited Zn1−xCoxO (x=0.06-0.3) thin films with no intentional electrical carrier doping. The analysis of the high-temperature magnetization data provides an unambiguous evidence that antiferromagnetic superexchange interaction is the dominant mechanism of the exchange coupling between Co ions in Zn1−xCoxO alloy, yielding the value of the effective exchange integral J1/kB to be about −27 K. The low-temperature magnetization data reveals a spin glass transition in Zn1−xCoxO alloy for the Co content x>0.15, giving the value of the spin freezing temperature Tf to be ∼8 and ∼12 K for x=0.2 and 0.25, respectively. Optical spectra analysis shows a linear increase of the band gap Eg with the increase of the Co content following Eg=3.231+1.144x eV.  相似文献

We have studied photoluminescence of α-MnSe in the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases. Two broad, possibly multi-component emission bands centred at about 1.53 and 1.66 eV are observed at 20 K. The frequencies and intensities of these bands show step-like shift in the vicinity of TN. On the basis of difference in peak energies at T=1.8 K and TN the d-p-d superexchange interaction in excited state is estimated to be J2g(exc)=0.918 meV.  相似文献

Temperature and field-dependent magnetization measurements on polycrystalline CeMnCuSi2 reveal that the Mn moments in this compound exhibit ordering with a ferromagnetic (FM) component ordered instead of the previously reported purely antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering. The FM ordering temperature, Tc, is about 120 K and almost unchanged with external fields up to 50 kOe. Furthermore, an AFM component (such as in a canted spin structure) is observed to be present in this phase, and its orientation is modified rapidly by the external magnetic field. The Ce L3-edge X-ray absorption result shows that the Ce ions in this compound are nearly trivalent, very similar to that in the heavy fermion system CeCu2Si2. Large thermomagnetic irreversibility is observed between the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) M(T) curves below Tc indicating strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the ordered phase. At 5 K, a metamagnetic-type transition is observed to occur at a critical field of about 8 kOe, and this critical field decreases with increasing temperature. The FM ordering of the Mn moments in CeMnCuSi2 is consistent with the value of the intralayer Mn–Mn distance RaMn–Mn=2.890 Å, which is greater than the critical value 2.865 Å for FM ordering. Finally, a magnetic phase diagram is constructed for CeMnCuSi2.  相似文献

Rare-earth-based manganites ABO3 may present interesting properties when the lanthanide (A-site) and/or the manganese (B-site) are partially substituted by divalent elements. Heavy lanthanides are particularly appealing because of the expected interplay between the intrinsic magnetic properties of the rare-earth element (Ln) and those of the ferromagnetic manganese sublattice. As such, a spin reorientation has been observed during magnetization-versus-temperature cycles due to a negative exchange interaction between Mn and Ln. We present herein high-quality epitaxial thin films (∼200 nm thick) of Gd0.67Ca0.33MnO3 deposited onto (1 0 0) SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed-laser deposition. Enhanced properties were observed in comparison with bulk samples. The magnetic transition temperature Tc of the as-grown films is much higher than the corresponding bulk values. Most interesting, magnetization measurements performed under small applied fields, exhibit magnetization reversals below Tc, no matter whether the film is field-cooled (FC) or zero-field-cooled (ZFC). The reversal mechanism is discussed in terms of a negative exchange f-d interaction and magnetic anisotropy, this latter enhanced by strain effects induced by the lattice mismatch between the film and the substrate.  相似文献

Magnetization and susceptibility were investigated as a function of temperature and magnetic field in polycrystalline Mn[Cr0.5Ga1.5]S4 spinel. The dc susceptibility measurements at 919 Oe showed a disordered ferrimagnetic behaviour with a Curie-Weiss temperature θCW=−55 K and an effective magnetic moment of 5.96 μB close to the spin-only value of 6.52 μB for Cr3+ and Mn2+ ions in the 3d3 and 3d5 configurations, respectively. The magnetization measured at 100 Oe revealed the multiple magnetic transitions with a sharp maximum at the Néel temperature TN=3.9 K, a minimum at the Yafet-Kittel temperature TYK=5 K, a broad maximum at the freezing temperature Tf=7.9 K, and an inflection point at the Curie temperature TC=48 K indicating a transition to paramagnetic phase. A large splitting between the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) magnetizations at a temperature smaller than TC suggests the presence of spin-glass-like behaviour. This behaviour is considered in a framework of competing interactions between the antiferromagnetic ordering of the A(Mn) sublattice and the ferromagnetic ordering of the B(Cr) sublattice.  相似文献

Electrical and magnetic properties of TmCoIn5 and YbCoIn5 single crystals were investigated by means of electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements in the temperature range from 300 to 0.5 K under the magnetic field up to 5 T. TmCoIn5 is an antiferromagnetic metal with a Néel temperature TN=2.6 K. YbCoIn5 shows non-magnetic behavior, reflecting of divalent Yb ion.  相似文献

Magnetic susceptibility and muon spectroscopy measurements are carried out on antiferromagnetic nanoparticles (AFN) of CuO that are directly prepared by ball-milling a single crystal. The recently reported ferromagnetic features in AFN CuO of sol-gel growth are confirmed. New and significant result of the present work is a direct observation of an unusual dramatic reduction of the antiferromagnetic transition temperature, TN, from the bulk TN=230 to 50 K in AFN CuO by the μSR measurement.  相似文献
