In this paper an analytical investigation of large amplitude free flexural vibrations of isotropic and orthotropic moderately thick triangular plates is carried out. The governing equations are expressed in terms of the lateral displacement, w, and the stress function, F, and are based on an improved non-linear vibration theory which accounts for the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertia. Solutions to the governing equations are obtained by using a single-mode approximation for w, Galerkin's method and a numerical integration procedure. Numerical results are presented in terms of variations of non-linear frequency ratios with amplitudes of vibrations. The effects of transverse shear, rotatory inertia, material properties, aspect ratios, and thickness parameters are studied and compared with available solutions wherever possible. Present results are in close agreement with those reported for thin plates. It is believed that all of the results reported here that are applicable for moderately thick plates are new and therefore, no comparison is possible.  相似文献

Transverse vibrations of a thin rod caused by a short-term longitudinal impact are considered. After the impact, a system of compression-tension waves, which causes transverse vibrations, appears in the rod. Parametric resonance, which leads to an unbounded rise in the amplitude of transverse vibrations, is investigated in the linear approximation. With a nonlinear approach, beats appear in the resonance vicinity, in which the mutual exchange of the energy of longitudinal and transverse vibrations occurs. The influence of viscoelastic resistance forces is investigated.  相似文献

An analysis of the free flexural vibrations of elastic circular plates with initial imperfections is presented. The analysis includes the effects of transverse shear and rotatory inertia. The vibration amplitudes are assumed to be large, and two non-linear differential equations are obtained for free vibration of the plate and solved numerically. The period of the plate has been calculated as a function of the initial amplitude for four typical supporting conditions.  相似文献

The large amplitude free flexural vibration of elastic, isotropic skew plates is investigated, the effects of transverse shear and rotatory inertia being included. By use of Galerkin's method and the extended Berger approximation, solutions are obtained on the basis of an assumed vibration mode. The non-linear period vs. amplitude behavior is of the hardening type and the non-linear period is found to increase when the effects of transverse shear and rotatory inertia are considered in the analysis. The influence of these effects on aspect ratios and skew angles of thin and moderately thick skew plates is investigated both at small and large amplitudes.  相似文献

In order to investigate the effect of the number of nodal diameters on non-linear interactions in asymmetric vibrations of a circular plate, a primary resonance of the plate is considered. The plate is assumed to have an internal resonance in which the ratio of the natural frequencies of two asymmetric modes is three to one. The response of the plate is expressed as an expansion in terms of the linear, free oscillation modes, and its amplitude is considered to be small but finite, and the method of multiple scales is used. In view of the corrected solvability conditions for the responses, it has been found that in order for the modes to interact, the ratio of the numbers of nodal diameters of two modes must be either three to one or one to one. In this study the one-to-one case, in which the modes have the same number of nodal diameters, is examined. The non-linear governing equations are reduced to a system of autonomous ordinary differential equations for amplitude and phase variables by means of the corrected solvability conditions. The steady state responses and their stability are determined by using this system. The result shows very complicated interactions between two modes by telling existence of non-vanishing amplitudes of the mode not directly excited.  相似文献

In this investigation, the influence of a Wieghardt type elastic foundation on the stability of cantilever and clamped-hinged beams subjected to either a uniformly or a linearly distributed tangential force is considered. In addition to the usual transverse foundation modulus, the Wieghardt model includes the effects of inertia and shear deformation in the foundation. Approximate solutions of the Ritz type are obtained for the pertinent eigenvalue problems, and numerical calculations are reported for various combinations of the internal damping, inertia, transverse foundation modulus and shear foundation modulus parameters. The numerical results reveal that, in general, for a fixed value of the transverse foundation modulus parameter κ, an increase in the shear foundation modulus increases the critical load, whereas an increase in the foundation inertia parameter tends to decrease the critical load. The system consisting of a clamped-hinged beam subjected to a uniformly distributed tangential force loses stability through divergence, provided that the value of κ is sufficiently small. However, when κ becomes large enough, stability will be lost through flutter. In this case, the critical load considered as a function of κ possesses a discontinuity at the transition between divergence and flutter, and its value will either increase or decrease, depending upon the degree of damping in the system.  相似文献

Governing equations of motion for vibrations of a general multilayered plate consisting of an arbitrary number of alternate stiff and soft layers of orthotropic materials are derived by using variational principles. Extension, bending and in-plane shear deformations in stiff layers and only transverse shear deformations in soft layers are considered as in conventional sandwich structural analysis. In addition to transverse inertia, longitudinal translatory and rotary inertias are included, as such analysis gives higher order modes of vibration and leads to accurate results for relatively thick plates. Vibration and damping analysis of rectangular simply supported plates consisting of alternate elastic and viscoelastic layers is carried out by taking a series solution and applying the correspondence principle of linear viscoelasticity. The damping effectiveness, in term of the system loss factor, for all families of modes for three-, five- and seven-layered plates is evaluated and its variations with geometrical and material property parameters are investigated.  相似文献

An asymptotic approach for determining periodic solutions of non-linear vibration problems of continuous structures (such as rods, beams, plates, etc.) is proposed. Starting with the well-known perturbation technique, the independent displacement and frequency is expanded in a power series of a natural small parameter. It leads to infinite systems of interconnected non-linear algebraic equations governing the relationships between modes, amplitudes and frequencies. A non-trivial asymptotic technique, based on the introduction of an artificial small parameter is used to solve the equations. An advantage of the procedure is the possibility to take into account a number of vibration modes. As examples, free longitudinal vibrations of a rod and lateral vibrations of a beam under cubically non-linear restoring force are considered. Resonance interactions between different modes are investigated and asymptotic formulae for corresponding backbone curves are derived.  相似文献

An Euler-Bernoulli beam carrying concentrated masses is considered to be a beam-mass system. The beam is simply supported at both ends. The non-linear equations of motion are derived including stretching due to immovable end conditions. The stretching introduces cubic non-linearities into the equations. Forcing and damping terms are also included. Exact solutions for the natural frequencies are given for the linear problem. For the non-linear problem, an approximate solution using a perturbation method is searched. Non-linear terms of the perturbation series appear as corrections to the linear problem. Amplitude and phase modulation equations are obtained. Non-linear free and forced vibrations are investigated in detail. The effect of the positions, magnitudes and number of the masses are investigated.  相似文献

In the past the effects of ignoring the variable inertia characteristics of reciprocating engines on the accuracy of torsional-vibration calculations were considered to be negligible. The associated secondary resonances and regions of instability tended to be dismissed by most engineers as interesting but of no importance. The situation changed in recent years since there was evidence of the existence of the secondary resonance effects which could have contributed to a number of otherwise inexplicable crankshaft failures in large slow speed marine engines. The cyclic variation of the polar moment of inertia of the reciprocating parts during each revolution causes a periodic variation of frequency and corresponding amplitude of vibration of reciprocating engine systems. It also causes an increase in the speed range over which resonance effects are experienced. In the present paper a study of the effects of damping on the motion of the variable inertia system has been carried out. When the variable inertia effect is allowed for, the equation of motion including the effects of damping is non-linear. For small displacements, the equation can be linearized to predict important characteristics of the motion.Computer methods making use of a numerical analysis process, namely the modified Euler's equations, have been applied in the investigations. The waveform responses are studied at different speeds of engine rotation. The effects of damping and of variations in the ratio of the average reciprocating inertia to average total inertia on the regions of instability have been investigated.  相似文献

The Bently/Muszynska (B/M) model shows that oil whirl and oil whip are both self-sustained vibrations associated with two unstable modes of a rotor–fluid system. The model includes a rotating fluid damping and inertia force. In certain configurations, the rotating damping force overcomes the frictional internal damping of the rotor and pushes the rotor into a stable limit cycle of circular orbiting. Such a notion of a rotating fluid force is based on bulk-flow models of fluid-filled clearances that could be approximated as narrow since the tangential velocity of the fluid then translates to one angular velocity at a certain radial distance defined by an average radius. This paper scrutinizes the assumption of a rotating fluid inertia force and pinpoints the additional inertial effects of the swirling flow as the gap width increases. These effects are clarified by deriving the equation of motion of a body with a mass subjected to motion-induced fluid forces of a confined swirling flow. We show that the inertial effects of the swirling flow counteract the destabilizing effect of the rotating damping force. However, if the body mass is larger than the displaced fluid mass, instability follows. The frequency of the unstable mode is unchanged by the additional inertial effects and is always equal to the frequency of the damping that induces the instability.

The coupling of longitudinal and bending vibrations of a rotating shaft, due to an open transverse surface crack is investigated. The assumption of the open crack leads to a system with behaviour similar to that of a rotor with dissimilar moments of inertia along two perpendicular directions. The local flexibility due to the presence of the crack can be represented by way of a 6×6 matrix for six degrees of freedom in a short shaft element which includes the crack. This matrix has off-diagonal terms which cause coupling along the directions which are indicated by these terms. Here shear is not considered and three degrees of freedom are used: bending in the two main directions and extension. This leads to a 3×3 stiffness matrix with coupling terms. The undamped free and forced coupled vibration are first considered. The coupling is investigated and the effects of unbalance and gravity are examined. Then damped coupled vibration is considered for free and forced vibration. The existence of coupling between longitudinal and bending vibration due to the crack is a very useful property which, together with the sub-critical resonance due to crack, can form a basis for crack identification in rotating shafts. New and interesting phenomena of coupled transverse and longitudinal motion are presented and discussed.  相似文献

The damping in a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminate is greater than that which occurs in most metallic materials. In the supercritical regime, the damping can trigger unstable whirl oscillations, which can have catastrophic effects. The vibrations occurring in a supercritical composite drive shaft are investigated here in order to predict instabilities of this kind. A simply supported carbon/epoxy composite tube mounted on viscoelastic supports is studied, using an approximation of the Rayleigh–Timoshenko equation. The damping process is assumed to be hysteretic. The composite behavior is described in terms of modulus and loss factor, taking homogenized values. The critical speeds are obtained in several analytical forms in order to determine the effects of factors such as the rotatory inertia, the gyroscopic forces, the transverse shear and the supports stiffness. Assuming that the hysteretic damping can be expressed in terms of the equivalent viscous model, the threshold speed is obtained in the form of an analytical criterion. The influence of the various factors involved is quantified at the first critical speed of a subcritical composite shaft previously described in the literature. The influence of the coupling mechanisms on the unsymmetrical composite laminate and the end fittings is also investigated using a finite element model. None of these parameters were found to have a decisive influence in this case. Those having the greatest effects were the transverse shear and the supports stiffness. The effects of the composite stacking sequence, the shaft length and the supports stiffness on the threshold speed were then investigated. In particular, drive shafts consisting only of ±45° or ±30° plies can be said to be generally unstable in the supercritical regime due to their very high loss factors.  相似文献

The present paper is devoted to analyzing undamped forced transverse vibrations of an elastically connected complex double-beam system. The problem is formulated and solved in the case of simply supported beams. The classical modal expansion method is applied to ascertain dynamic responses of beams due to arbitrarily distributed continuous loads. Several cases of particularly interesting excitation loadings are investigated. The action of stationary harmonic loads and moving forces is considered. In discussing vibrations caused by exciting harmonic forces, conditions of resonance and dynamic vibration absorption are determined. The beam-type dynamic absorber is a new concept of a continuous dynamic vibration absorber (CDVA), which can be applied to suppress excessive vibrations of corresponding beam systems. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

The axial impact by an elastic body on an elastic-rod end with a fixed opposite end is considered. The propagation of elastic waves in the rod and the local deformations in the contact zone are taken into account. After recoil of the body, the rod performs free longitudinal vibrations, which can under certain conditions cause parametric transverse vibrations having the character of beats. Depending on the parameters of the problem, the collision time, the shock-pulse shape, and the greatest amplitude of the transverse vibrations under parametric resonance are determined.  相似文献

A two-degree-of-freedom model for an almost-axially impacted viscoelastic cantilever column is analyzed. The impact load is produced by a mass striking the free end of the column. Under the assumption of small displacements two second-order non-linear ordinary differential equations for the coupled longitudinal and transverse vibrations of the column are derived. In the absence of damping these equations of motion are reduced to Mathieu's equation through the use of a perturbation method. The excitation parameters are (i) the natural frequency of small amplitude transverse vibrations of the undamped column and (ii) the initial velocity of the end of the column. The boundaries of two unstable regions are obtained. In the stable regions the solution of Mathieu's equation for the transverse displacement is close to that of the original non-linear equations of motion. In the first unstable region there is agreement only for early time. With increasing damping the peak of the maximum transverse displacement in the first unstable region decreases or even vanishes.  相似文献

The non-linear dynamic behaviour of infinitely long circular cylindrical shells in the case of plane strains is examined and results are compared with previous studies. A theoretical model based on Hamilton's principle and spectral analysis previously developed for non-linear vibration of thin straight structures (beams and plates) is extended here to shell-type structures, reducing the large-amplitude free vibration problem to the solution of a set of non-linear algebraic equations. In the present work, the transverse displacement is assumed to be harmonic and is expanded in the form of a finite series of functions corresponding to the constrained vibrations, which exclude the axisymmetric displacements. The non-linear strain energy is expressed by taking into account the non-linear terms due to the considerable stretching of the shell middle surface induced by large deflections. It has been shown that the model presented here gives new results for infinitely long circular cylindrical shells and can lead to a good approximation for determining the fundamental longitudinal mode shape and the associated higher circumferencial mode shapes (n>3) of simply supported circular cylindrical shells of finite length. The non-linear results at small vibration amplitudes are compared with linear experimental and theoretical results obtained by several authors for simply supported shells. Numerical results (non-linear frequencies, vibration amplitudes and basic function contributions) of infinite shells associated to the first four mode shapes of free vibrations, are obtained, using a multi-mode approach and are summarized in tables. Good agreement is found with results from previous studies for both small and large amplitudes of vibration. The non-linear mode shapes are plotted and discussed for different thickness to radius ratios. The distributions of the bending stresses associated with the mode shapes are given and compared with those obtained via the linear theory.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of the transverse vibrations of a beam induced by a mobile heat source. The formulation of the problem is based on the differential equations of heat conduction and transverse vibrations of the beam, which are complemented by suitable initial and boundary conditions. The effect of internal and external damping on the vibrations of the beam is considered. The solution to the problem in analytical form is obtained by using the properties of the Green functions. A time partitioning method has been used to avoid the difficulties associated with the slow convergence of the series occurring in the solution to the heat conduction problem. The numerical results of the thermally induced vibration of the beam are presented.  相似文献
