Nonlinear electron plasma waves in a cold plasma bounded by a cylindrical dielectric are investigated using the exact electron fluid equations. After the spatial wave structure is determined, a set of nonlinear equations governing the temporal behavior of the field quantities is solved. It is shown that finite amplitude waves and explosively unstable behavior can occur  相似文献

Circumferential waves propagating in a layered, circular cylinder are studied. The cylinder consists of an elastic circular core encased in a hollow, circular cylinder of distinctly different elastic properties. Both smooth and bonded contact are considered. The effect of curvature and layer thickness on the phase velocity of the lowest mode(s) is investigated for both an acoustically softer and an acoustically stiffer layer. When the outer radius of the composite cylinder is unbounded, Stoneley waves are a limiting case as the ratio of the radius of the core to the wavelength increases beyond bounds. When the outer radius is finite, waves in a layer and a half-space result for this limit. Some attention is also directed to the limiting case of small layer thickness to the wavelength ratio. In the limit as this ratio vanishes, the motion of the core reduces to that of Rayleigh waves on the curved surface. For smooth contact, the motion of the core becomes uncoupled from that of the layer for this limiting case, and two distinct modes are seen to exist.  相似文献

Previous work on exact cylindrical surface waves in a nonneutral cold-electron plasma bounded by a dielectric is extended to include plasma rotation. A set of nonlinear rate equations describing the temporal behavior of the system is derived by first determining an appropriate spatial wave structure. Physically relevant periodic solutions are obtained  相似文献

The dispersion relation of CHW at oblique propagation in a wave magenetoplasma exhibits many damped roots between two successive cyclotron harmonics. The two less damped are those obtained by Tataronis and Crawford.  相似文献

On the basis of the three-dimensional theory of elasticity, we consider the features of propagation of harmonic waves in a hollow cylinder with screw anisotropy. The main attention is focused on studying axisymmetrical oscillations. To describe low-frequency long-wavelength longitudinal-torsional oscillations by perturbation theory methods, we construct an applied theory and evaluate the area of its applicability. To analyze high-frequency oscillations, a numerical method of determining the critical frequencies and dispersion curves is developed and implemented. It is shown that in the axisymmetrical case, screw anisotropy generates a relation between longitudinal and torsion oscillations, which is mathematically described by the amplitude coefficients of homogeneous waves.  相似文献

Propagation of flexural guided waves in a fluid-loaded transversely isotropic cylinder is studied. Numerical results are presented for a cobalt cylinder immersed in water. The phase velocities are not significantly affected except for several modes in which the energy leakage occurs into the fluid over certain frequency ranges. Attenuation spectra for the leaking modes are plotted.  相似文献

We consider the problem of three-dimensional diffraction of electromagnetic waves excited by an elementary source on a chiral infinite cylinder of arbitrary radius. Effective scattering cross sections of a chiral cylinder in the case of two-dimensional diffraction are numerically analyzed. The transmission of millimeter waves through a semiconductor changes according to the amount of light falling on it. In the experiments reported here, a pattern of light and shadow is projected onto a sheet of semiconductor and the regions of greater and lesser transmission serve as a diffracting object for a millimeter-wave beam. The light source is a quartz tungsten halogen lamp. A lock-in amplifier is employed to overcome difficulties due to the differences in transmitted power being small.  相似文献

Following our previous attempt at the scattering from a cylinder in a slab to the incidence of a guided shear wave, we hereby discuss the scattering by an elastic cylinder embedded in an isotropic plate for a variety of bonding states to incidence of the fundamental Lamb wave modes S0 and A0 at the low-frequency regime. The plate is divided up into three regions by introducing two imaginary planes located symmetrically some distance from the cylinder and perpendicular to surfaces of the plate. The wave fields in various regions are expanded either into cylinder wave modes or into Lamb wave modes. A system of equations determining the coefficients of expansion is obtained according to the traction-free boundary conditions on the plate walls and the displacement and stress continuity conditions across the virtual planes. By taking an appropriate finite number of terms of the infinite expansion series and some selected points on the two properly chosen imaginary planes and the surfaces of the plate through convergence and precision tests, a matrix equation to numerically evaluate the expansion coefficients is found. Coefficients of the reflection and transmission versus the normalized radius of the cylinder in welded, slip, and cracked interfacial conditions are numerically computed. In the low-frequency range, the relative errors are found to be less than 1%. Contrast curves of the reflection coefficient for the cylinder of nearly all permissible size in perfect and imperfect interfacial bonding are shown and prominent differences are noted.  相似文献

A theoretical solution is proposed to predict acoustic waves generated in a homogeneous and isotropic hollow cylinder by a laser line source under either ablation or thermoelastic regime. The Fourier series expansion is introduced for one spatial coordinate to solve this transient response problem. Theoretical displacements are obtained in both regimes for aluminum hollow cylinders with various thickness including a rod of the same size. The corresponding displacements are observed experimentally by the laser ultrasonic technique. Agreement has been found in the time arrival, shape and relative amplitude of surface waves and various longitudinal and transverse bulk waves. These acoustic waves are further identified by the ray trajectory analysis. This work will be helpful when dealing with the inverse problem of the nondestructive evaluation of hollow cylindrical parts.  相似文献

In this paper, the propagation of time-harmonic torsional waves in composite elastic cylinders is investigated. An imperfect interface is considered where tractions are continuous across the interface and the displacement jump is proportional to the stress acting on the interface. A frequency equation is derived for the rod and dispersion curves of normalized frequency as a function of normalized wave number for elastic bimaterials with varying values for the interface constant F are presented. The analysis is shown to recover the dispersion curves for a bimaterial rod with a perfect (welded) interface (F = 0), and has the correct limiting behavior for large F. It is shown that the modes, at any given frequency, are orthogonal, and it is outlined how the problem of reflection of a torsional mode by a planar defect (such as a circumferential crack) can be treated.  相似文献

Analytical models of acoustic field excited by a pulsed-laser line source on a cylinder and a coated cylinder were presented.Surface wave dispersive behaviors for a cylinder with a slow coating were analyzed and compared with that of a bare cylinder.Based on this analysis, the laser-generated transient response of the cylindrical Rayleigh wave on cylinder and the perturbed cylindrical Rayleigh wave on coated cylinder and the higher modes were calculated from the models using residue theory and FFT technique. The theoretical results from the superposed waveform of the cylindrical Rayleigh wave and higher modes for both cylinder and coated cylinder agree well with the waveforms obtained from experiment. The transient response of perturbed Raleigh wave on coated cylinder is quite different with cylindrical Rayleigh wave on cylinder because of the guide of surface coating. The results show that the model and numerical method provide a useful technique for quantitatively characterizing coating parameters of coated cylinder by the laser generated surface waves.  相似文献

Excitation and propagation of non-axisymmetric guided waves in a hollow cylinder is studied by using the normal mode expansion method (NME). Different sources such as angle beam, tube end excitation with normal beam, and comb transducer possibilities are discussed based on the derivations of the NME method. Numerical calculations are focused on the case of angle beam partial loading. Based on the NME method, the amplitude coefficients for all of the harmonic modes are obtained. Due to the difference of phase velocities for different modes, the superimposed total field varies with propagating distances and hence makes particle displacement distribution patterns (angular profile) change with distance. This varying non-axisymmetric angular profile of guided waves represents a nonuniform energy distribution around the hollow cylinder and thus has an impact on the inspection ability of guided waves. The angular profiles of an angle beam source are predicted by theory and then verified by experiments. The predicted angular profiles also provide information for determining the transducer location to find defects in a certain position on the hollow cylinder.  相似文献

Surface diffraction of the plane waves from an impedance cylinder was investigated by the method of physical theory of diffraction (PTD). Physical optics (PO) method was used to gain the uniform scattered fields which are produced by the induced surface currents. Nonuniform currents and scattered fields were obtained by the method of PTD with the assistance of the exact solutions.  相似文献

A three-dimensional (3D) model is presented to predict the acoustic waves generated by a laser point pulse in a transversely isotropic cylinder. The Fourier series expansion and the two-dimensional Fourier transform are introduced to calculate the 3D transient response under either the ablation or the thermoelastic generation. The presented physical model and the numerical inverse scheme are applied to a fiber reinforced composite cylinder with a strong anisotropy. Experimental radial displacements of the cylinder surface are detected by the laser ultrasonic technique and analyzed by the ray trajectories for both generation regimes. Corresponding theoretical displacements are obtained numerically and compared to the experimental signals. Good agreement is found between theoretical and experimental results. The focusing effects that anisotropy gives rise to are observed in both theory and experiment under either regime.  相似文献
