A problem motivated by the investigation of the heat and mass transfer in the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flow of blood through a vessel is solved numerically when the lumen of the vessel has turned into the porous structure. The time-dependent permeability and the oscillatory suction velocity are considered. The computational results are presented graphically for the velocity, the temperature, and the concentration fields for various values of skin friction coefficients,Nusselt numbers, and Sherwood numbers. The study reveals that the flow is appreciably influenced by the presence of a magnetic field and also by the value of the Grashof number.  相似文献

The characteristics of the boundary layer flow past a plane surface adjacent to a saturated Darcy–Brinkman porous medium are investigated in this paper. The flow is driven by an external free stream moving with constant velocity. The surface is heated with a convective boundary condition with constant heat transfer coefficient. The problem is non-similar and is investigated numerically by a finite difference method. The problem is governed by four non-dimensional parameters, that is, the convective Darcy number, the convective Grashof number, the Prandtl number, and the axial distance along the plate. The influence of these parameters on the results is investigated, and the results are presented in tables and figures. The Darcy term and the Grashof term in the momentum equation contradict each other and this contradiction makes the problem complicated. However, the wall shear stress and the wall temperature increase continuously along the plate and the wall temperature always tends to 1.  相似文献

Summary An analysis is made of the laminar free convection of a viscous electrically conducting fluid from a hot infinite porous flat plate maintained at constant temperature under transverse magnetic field. Expressions have been obtained for the velocity, magnetic field, skin friction at the plate and the momentum thickness. The effect of the Grashof number and the Prandtl number on these quantities is discussed.  相似文献

The heat and mass transfer of two immiscible fluids in an inclined channel with thermal diffusion, vicious, and Darcy dissipation is studied. The first region consists of a clear fluid, and the second one is filled with a nanofluid saturated with a porous medium. The behaviors of Cu-H2O, In-H2O, and Au-H2O nanofluids are analyzed. The transport properties are assumed to be constant. The coupled non-linear equations of the flow model are transformed into the dimensionless form, and the solutions for the velocity, temperature, and concentration are obtained by the regular perturbation technique. Investigations are carried out on the flow characteristics for various values of the material parameters. The results show that the velocity and temperature of the fluids enhance with the thermal Grashof number, solutal Grashof number, and Brinkman number while decrease with the porosity parameter and solid volume fraction.  相似文献

A technique of the state space approach and the inversion of the Laplace transform method are applied to dimensionless equations of an unsteady one-dimensional boundary-layer flow due to heat and mass transfer through a porous medium saturated with a viscoelastic fluid bounded by an infinite vertical plate in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is described. Complete analytical solutions for the temperature, concentration, velocity, and induced magnetic and electric fields are presented. The inversion of the Laplace transforms is carried out by using a numerical approach. The proposed method is used to solve two problems: boundary-layer flow in a viscoelastic fluid near a vertical wall subjected to the initial conditions of a stepwise temperature and concentration and viscoelastic fluid flow between two vertical walls. The solutions are found to be dependent on the governing parameters including the Prandtl number, the Schmidt number, the Grashof number, reaction rate coefficient, viscoelastic parameter, and permeability of the porous medium. Effects of these major parameters on the transport behavior are investigated methodically, and typical results are illustrated to reveal the tendency of the solutions. Representative results are presented for the velocity, temperature, concentration, and induced magnetic and electric field distributions, as well as the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.  相似文献

The influence of third grade, partial slip and other thermophysical parameters on the steady flow, heat and mass transfer of viscoelastic third grade fluid past an infinite vertical insulated plate subject to suction across the boundary layer has been investigated. The space occupying the fluid is porous. The momentum equation is characterized by a highly nonlinear boundary value problem in which the order of the differential equation exceeds the number of available boundary conditions. An efficient numerical scheme of midpoint technique with Richardson’s extrapolation is employed to solve the governing system of coupled nonlinear equations of momentum, energy and concentration. Numerical calculations were carried out for different values of various interesting non-dimensional quantities in the slip flow regime with heat and mass transfer and were shown with the aid of figures. The values of the wall shear stress, the local rate of heat and mass transfers were obtained and tabulated. The analysis shows that as the fluid becomes more shear thickening, the momentum boundary layer decreases but the thermal boundary layer increases; the magnetic field strength is found to decrease with an increasing temperature distribution when the porous plate is insulated. The consequences of increasing the permeability parameter and Schmidt number decrease both the momentum and concentration boundary layer thicknesses respectively whereas an increase in the thermal Grashof number gives rise to the thermal boundary layer thickness.  相似文献

In this paper, a direct numerical simulation of a fully developed turbulent flow and heat transfer are studied in a square duct with an imposed temperature difference between the vertical walls and the perfectly insulated horizontal walls. The natural convection is considered on the cross section in the duct. The numerical scheme employs a time-splitting method to integrate the three dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The unsteady flow field was simulated at a Reynolds number of 400 based on the Mean friction velocity and the hydraulic diameter (Re m = 6200), while the Prandtl number (Pr) is assumed 0.71. Four different Grashof numbers (Gr = 104, 105, 106 and 107) are considered. The results show that the secondary flow and turbulent characteristics are not affected obviously at lower Grashof number (Gr ≤ 105) cases, while for the higher Grashof number cases, natural convection has an important effect, but the mean flow and mean temperature at the cross section are also affected strongly by Reynolds stresses. Compared with the laminar heat transfer at the same Grashof number, the intensity of the combined heat transfer is somewhat decreased.  相似文献

The steady free convection boundary layer flow of non-Darcy fluid along an isothermal vertical cylinder embedded in a saturated porous medium using the Ergun model has been studied. The partial differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme developed by Keller. It is found that the heat transfer is strongly affected by the modified Grashof number which characterizes the non-Darcy fluid, and the curvature parameter. Also the heat transfer is found to be more than that of the flat plate.  相似文献

The unsteady natural convection flow of a viscous and incompressible fluid through a porous medium with high porosity bounded by a vertical infinite stationary plate in the presence of radiation has been investigated. The fluid is assumed to be a gray, emitting and absorbing radiation, but non-scattering medium. The effects of the radiation parameter, Grashof number and permeability parameter of the medium on the velocity field as well as the effects of the radiation parameter and Prandtl number on the temperature field have been included in the analysis.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of three-dimensional Couette flow with radiation effect on temperature distribution has been analysed, when the injection of the fluid at the lower stationary plate is a transverse sinusoidal one and its corresponding removal by constant suction through the upper porous plate is in uniform motion. Due to this type of injection velocity, the flow becomes three-dimensional. The effect of Prandtl number, radiation parameter and injection parameter on rate of heat transfer has been examined by the help of graphs. The Prandtl number has a much greater effect on the temperature distribution than the injection or radiation parameter.  相似文献

We consider the flow, which is induced by differential heating on the boundaries of a porous cavity heated from below. In particular we allow the sidewalls to have the same cold temperature as the upper surface, and thus the problem is a variant of the Darcy-Bénard convection problem, but one where there is flow at all non-zero Grashof numbers. Attention is focused on how the flow and heat transfer is affected by variations in the cavity aspect ratio, the Grashof number and the Darcy number. The flow becomes weaker as the Darcy number decreases from the pure fluid limit towards the Darcy-flow limit. In addition the number of cells which form in the cavity varies primarily with the aspect ratio and is always even due to the symmetry imposed by the cold sidewalls.  相似文献

An exact solution to the problem of flow past an impulsively started infinite vertical plate in the presence of a foreign mass and constant mass flux at the plate is presented by the Laplace-transform technique. The velocity, the temperature and the concentration profiles are shown on graphs. The skin-friction and the Sherwood number are also shown on graphs. The effects of different parameters likeG (the Grashof number),Gc (the modified Grashof number),Pr (the Prandtl number) andSc (the Schmidt number) are discussed.  相似文献

Non-Darcy film condensation over a vertical flat plate within a porous medium is considered. The Forchheimer extended Darcy model is adopted to account for the non-Darcy effects on film condensation in the presence of both gravity and externally forced flow. A general similarity transformation is proposed upon introducing a modified Peclet number based on the total velocity of condensate, resulting from both gravitational force and externally forced flow. This general treatment makes it possible to obtain all possible similarity solutions including the asymptotic results in the four different limiting regimes, namely, Darcy forced convection regime, Forchheimer forced convection regime, Darcy body force predominant regime and Forchheimer body force predominant regime. Appropriate dimensionless groups for distinguishing these asymptotic regimes are found to be the micro-scale Grashof and Reynolds numbers based on the square root of the permeability of the porous medium. Correspondingly, the non-Darcy effect on the heat transfer rate are investigated in terms of these micro-scale dimensionless numbers.  相似文献

The effects of viscous dissipation are considered for natural convection flow past a semi-infinite inclined plate with variable surface temperature. Velocity and temperature profiles, skin friction, and rate of heat transfer are obtained. The effects of Grashof and Prandtl numbers, inclination angle, exponent in the wall temperature variation law, and viscous dissipation parameter on the flow are discussed. It is shown that the time required to reach steady states increases with increasing Prandtl number of the fluid. In addition, an increase in the plate temperature due to viscous dissipation was found to lead to a rise in the average skin friction and a decrease in the average Nusselt number.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the study of radiation effects on the combined (forced-free) convection flow of an optically dense viscous incompressible fluid over a vertical surface embedded in a fluid saturated porous medium of variable porosity with heat generation or absorption. The effects of radiation heat transfer from a porous wall on convection flow are very important in high temperature processes. The inclusion of radiation effects in the energy equation leads to a highly non-linear partial differential equations which are transformed to a system of ordinary differential equations using non-similarity transformation. These equations are then solved numerically using implicit finite-difference method subject to appropriate boundary and matching conditions. A parametric study of the physical parameters such as the particle diameter-based Reynolds number, the flow based Reynolds number, the Grashof number, the heat generation or absorption co-efficient and radiation parameter is conducted on temperature distribution. The effects of radiation and other physical parameters on the local skin friction and on local Nusselt number are shown graphically. It is interesting to observe that the momentum and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the radiation and decrease with increase in the Prandtl number.  相似文献

The problem of a semi-infinite “thick” plate impulsively accelerated to a constant speed is discussed, considering a compressible laminar boundary layer when the thermo-fluid dynamic field in the flow is coupled with the thermal field in the solid (conjugated heat transfer). Different cases are defined by the boundary condition for the thermal field on the unwetted plate side, A first-order analytical approximation of a more general method of solution is here proposed, with emphasis to the analysis of the effects of the Prandtl number (Pr), when the temperature on the unwetted side of the plate is assumed constant. The comparison with some reference solution available for the limiting conditions of steady flow and plate of infinite length shows a very satisfactory accuracy of the present results in spite of the first order approximation.  相似文献

Effect of magnetic field on the formation of longitudinal vortices in mixed convection flow over a rotating heated flat plate is presented. The onset position is characterized by the Grashof number, the rotational number, the Prandtl number, the Eckert number, the magnetic field parameter, and the wave number. Negative rotation (clockwise) and external magnetic field stabilize the boundary layer flow. On the contrary, positive rotation (anti-clockwise), the Eckert number, and the Prandtl number destabilize the flow. The numerical data show agreement with the experimental data with the case of zero Hartmann number in the literature.  相似文献

The structures of the convective motions and the nature of the heat transfer in a horizontal cylindrical layer are studied numerically for the Forchheimer model of a porous medium in the Boussinesq approximation. New asymmetric solutions of the equations of convection flow through a porous medium are found. Their development, domains of existence, and stability are investigated. One consists of a multivortex structure with asymmetric vortices in the near-polar region. Another asymmetric solution is realized at large Grashof numbers in the form of a convective plume deflected from the vertical. The threshold Grashof number of formation of the asymmetric motions depends on the Prandtl number and the cylindrical layer thickness.  相似文献

Numerical investigation of steady natural convection flow through a fluid-saturated porous medium in a vertical rectangular duct is investigated. The Darcy-Forchheimer-Brinkman model is used to represent the fluid transport within the porous medium. One of the vertical walls of the duct is cooled to a constant temperature, while the other wall is heated to constant but different temperature. The other two sides of the duct are insulated. The finite difference method of second-order accuracy is used to solve the non-dimensional governing equations. The results are presented graphically to show the effects of the Darcy number, inertial parameter, Grashof number, Brinkman number, aspect ratio, and viscosity ratio. It is found that an increase in the Darcy number and inertial parameter reduces the flow intensity whereas an increase in the Grashof number, Brinkman number, aspect ratio, and viscosity ratio increases the flow intensity.  相似文献
