Nonlinear gas oscillations excited in a tube with an open end by a piston driven by a crank mechanism are investigated. For the open end of the tube, a nonlinear boundary condition is formulated with allowance for oscillations at the subharmonic resonance frequency. Both first- and second-order approximations to the oscillations at the fundamental frequency and at half this frequency are calculated. The results of theoretical calculations are compared with experimental data.  相似文献

We examine the dynamics of premixed flames in long, narrow, adiabatic channels focusing, in particular, on the effects of gas compressibility on the propagation. Recognising the importance of the boundary conditions, we examine and compare three cases: flame propagation in channels open at both ends, where the pressure must adjust to the ambient pressure at both ends and the expanding gas is allowed to leave the channel freely, and flame propagation in channels that remain closed at one of the two ends, where the burned/unburned gas remains trapped between the flame and one of the two walls. Earlier studies have shown that a flame accelerates when travelling down a narrow channel as a result of the combined effects of wall friction and thermal expansion. In the present work we show that compressibility effects enhance the transition to fast accelerating flames in channels open at both ends and in channels closed at the ignition end. In both situations, the accelerating flames could reach values that, depending on the effective Mach number, are as large as fifty times the laminar flame speed. In contrast, when the channel is closed at the far end, the acceleration is limited and the propagation speed is damped as the flame approaches the far boundary. Moreover, we show that, in channels closed at their ignition end, the flame in sufficiently long channels evolves into a steadily propagating compression-driven flame. The propagation speed of these flames depends exponentially on the constant-volume equilibrium temperature, which is higher than the (constant pressure) adiabatic flame temperature, and is therefore larger than for ordinary isobaric flames. Fast propagating compression waves cannot emerge in channels that remain open at their ignition end because of the reduced pressure forced by the open boundary.  相似文献

The attractions of cantilevers made of multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWNTs)and secured on one end are studied in the non-uniform magnetic field of a permanent magnet.Under an optical microscope,the positions and the corresponding deflections of the original cantilevers(with iron catalytic nanoparticles at the free end)and corresponding cut-off cantilevers(the free ends consisting of open ends of MWNTs)are studied.Both kinds of CNT cantilevers are found to be attracted by the magnet,and the point of application of force is proven to be at the tip of the cantilever.By measuring and comparing deflections between these two kinds of cantilevers,the magnetic moment at the open ends of the CNTs can be quantified.Due to the unexpectedly high value of the magnetic moment at the open ends of carbon nanotubes,it is called giant magnetic moment,and its possible mechanisms are proposed and discussed.  相似文献

采用紧束缚模型研究了悬挂端对单壁碳纳米管电子输运特性的影响.结果表明:有限长悬挂端开口碳纳米管的电导在费米能级附近作周期性振荡.椅型(armchair)碳纳米管的振荡同时具有快、慢两个准周期,而锯齿型(zigzag)碳纳米管的振荡仅有一个周期;碳纳米管电导在费米能级附近的振荡周期随着悬挂端的增长而减小.研究还发现:有限长悬挂端开口碳纳米管的平均电导随探针与碳纳米管间耦合强度的增加而增大,其大小约为无限长悬挂端开口碳纳米管平均电导的两倍. 关键词: 输运特性 碳纳米管 紧束缚模型  相似文献

The initial liquid charge of a vertically orientated two-phase closed thermosyphon for adequate thermal performance as determined theoretically by assuming that the condensate is in the form of a relatively thin film underestimates the amount determined by using experimental correlations. Knowing the physical details of the two-phase flow within the thermosyphon could explain this discrepancy. Because, however, of the difficulty of directly observing two-phase flow in an actual metal thermosyphon it was decided to investigate the two-phase flow by using air and water in a transparent tube. The tube that was used is closed at the lower end and open at the top end, was partially charged with water, and air was introduced into the closed end at increasing air flow rates until water droplets were just about to be expelled from the open end. The flow patterns occurring as a function of air flow rate were identified. The average liquid fraction in four sections of the tube was determined for different initial charge fractions and inclinations. It was observed that even at low air flow rates significant quantities of liquid were propelled up into the tube and that the flow is oscillatory. It was concluded that care would have to be taken in assuming a relatively thin and uniform liquid film in theoretically modelling a thermosyphon.  相似文献

We study theoretically and experimentally the efficiency of excitation of an open resonator by a waveguide. A two-dimensional model of a quasioptical two-mirror open resonator, which is excited through a coupling element in the form of an open end of a plane-parallel waveguide, is proposed. The field of the open resonator is represented as the superposition of Gaussian wave beams and its scattering on the coupling element is described by solving the problem of diffraction of waveguide waves and Gaussian wave beams on an open end of a flanged waveguide. Properties of the mirrors and the resonator loss are specified from physical considerations. The calculation results are compared with the experimental data, and a physical interpretation of the obtained results is offered. The factors which influence the efficiency of excitation of an open resonator are identified. An initially laminar premixed flame front accelerates extremely fast and may even trigger a detonation when propagating in a semi-open obstructed channel (one end of the channel is closed; the flame is ignited at the closed end and moves towards the open one). However, industrial and laboratory conduits oftentimes have both ends open, or vented, with a flame ignited at one of these ends. The latter constitutes the focus of the present work. Specifically, premixed flame propagation through a comb-shaped array of obstacles, in-built in a channel with both ends open, is studied by means of computational simulation of the reacting flow equations with fully-compressible hydrodynamics and an Arrhenius chemical kinetics. The parametric study includes various blockage ratios and spacing as well as the thermal expansion ratios, with oscillations of the burning rate observed in the majority of the cases, which conceptually differs from fast flame acceleration in semi-open channels. Such a difference is devoted to the fact that while the entire flame-generated jet-flow is pushed towards a single exit in a semi-open channel, in a channel with two ends open, this jet-flow is distributed between the upstream and downstream flows, thereby moderating flame propagation. The flame oscillations are nonlinear in all cases where they are observed. The oscillation period grows with the blockage ratio but decreases with the thermal expansion. The present results also support the recent experiments, modeling and theory of flames in obstructed channels with both ends open, which all yielded steady or quasi-steady flame propagation prior to the onset of flame acceleration. Indeed, the present oscillations can be treated as the fluctuations around a quasi-steady solution.  相似文献

Presented herein is a comprehensive study on the mechanics of concentric and eccentric C60 fullerenes inside open carbon nanocones (CNCs) on the basis of the continuum approximation along with the 6–12 Lennard-Jones (LJ) potential function. For concentric configuration, new analytical expressions are derived to evaluate van der Waals (vdW) potential energy and interaction force between the two interacting molecules. Also, semi-analytical expressions in terms of double integrals are extracted to determine the potential energy of an offset C60 fullerene inside open CNCs. The proposed expressions are demonstrated to be dependent on whether the fullerene enters the open nanocone through the small end or the wide end. The effects of geometrical parameters such as small end radius, wide end radius and vertex angle of open nanocone on the distributions of vdW potential energy and interaction force are fully investigated. It is found that the fullerene molecule undergoes an asymmetrical motion inside CNCs. Moreover, for concentric and eccentric configurations, preferred position of system, for which potential energy reaches its minimum value, is obtained for different sizes of nanocone.  相似文献

本文应用特征线法,对尾管中的强脉动流的传播问题进行了理论计算.尾管的强脉动排气,在流压超过临界值的情况下,在开口端处的流动将会阻塞,此时应取马赫数等于1代替流压等于大气压作为该处的边界条件.对于强脉动气流,流动的诸参数的起伏量可大于它们各自的时均值,本文将开口端向外的排气气流比作简源,令简源强度与排气气体的体积速度成正比,同时计及湍流噪声的贡献,这样得到的结果与实验可相比较.最后还计算了管长为一定时的噪声辐射与气室压力的关系,气压为一定时的噪声辐射和质量流通量与尾管长度的关系,以及不同气压下噪声辐射与尾管长度的关系,为指导气动声源和往复式发动机尾管的设计提供了计算方法.  相似文献

The structure of the gas flow in the vicinity of the open end of a tube for the oscillating gas flow caused by piston oscillations at the first resonance frequency at the other end of the tube has been determined by numerical integration of the Navier–Stokes equations using the ANSYS FLUENT program package. For the variant of the tube with an infinitely long flange and a sharp edge, the influence of the piston displacement amplitude on the gas flow rate in the tube is investigated, and the phases of gas inflow and outflow during the period of oscillation have been determined.  相似文献

We study the propagation of premixed flames in long but finite channels, when the mixture is ignited at one end and both ends remain open and exposed to atmospheric pressure. Thermal expansion produces a continuous flow of burned gas directed away from the flame and towards the end of the channel where ignition took place. Owing to viscous drag, the flow is retarded at the walls and accelerated in the center, producing a pressure gradient that pushes the unburned gas ahead of the flame towards the other end of the channel. As a result the flame accelerates when it travels from end to end of the channel. The total travel time depends on the length of the channel and is proportional to γ?1ln(1 + γ), where γ is the heat release parameter.  相似文献

The possible tensor constructions of open string theories are analyzed from first principles. To this end the algebraic framework of open string field theory is clarified, including the role of the homotopy associative A algebra, the odd symplectic structure, cyclicity, star conjugation, and twist. It is also shown that two string theories are off-shell equivalent if the corresponding homotopy associative algebras are homotopy equivalent in a strict sense.It is demonstrated that a homotopy associative star algebra with a compatible even bilinear form can be attached to an open string theory. If this algebra does not have a space-time interpretation, positivity and the existence of a conserved ghost number require that its cohomology is at degree zero, and that it has the structure of a direct sum of full matrix algebras. The resulting string theory is shown to be physically equivalent to a string theory with a familiar open string gauge group.  相似文献

The propagation of plasma jets with argon gas is characterized in terms of two factors, the effect of electric field distribution along the tube and the effect of voltage polarity, from the observed results of optical signals along the entire column of plasma. The optical signal of plasma propagates from the high electric-field region of high-voltage electrode toward the low field region of the open air-space, regardless of the polarity of the voltage. The optical intensity and the propagation velocity are higher for the positive voltage than for the negative voltage. Moreover, the length of plasma plume exited from the end of the glass tube into the open air is shorter for the negative voltage. When the optical intensity is strong enough, a secondary peak signal follows the primary peak. In the plasma column on the inside of the glass tube, the optical intensity and the propagation velocity depend on the strength of the electric field; they are both high at the high-field region of voltage terminal and decay toward the end of the tube. The velocity is as fast as 104 m/s at the high-field region and slows down to 103 m/s at the low-field region of the glass-tube end. However, the plasma accelerates drastically to be (104–105) m/s after exiting the glass tube toward open air, even though the electric field is a quite low and thus the optical signal decays low before fading out. The experimental observations present in this report are explained with the propagation of the plasma diffusion waves.  相似文献

We present a general method to construct bulk-deformed open topological string theories from Landau-Ginzburg models. To this end we obtain a weak version of deformation quantisation, and we show how this together with the technique of homological perturbation allows to explicitly compute all bulk-deformed open topological string amplitudes at tree-level before tadpole-cancellation. Flame acceleration in tubes is studied. A tube filled with flammable mixture is closed at one end and open to the atmosphere at its second end. When ignition takes place near the closed end, it is well-known from experiments that the flame may accelerate, oscillate and eventually reach considerable speeds. A one-dimensional analysis is presented, based upon the assumption that the flame front propagates at a speed that is small compared to the speed of sound. The analysis leads to a construction of the complete unsteady solution. Results from the analysis and from a numerical simulation are compared. They are similar enough to validate the analysis. The tube acoustics are set in motion by the expansion of the fluid due to ignition at the closed end. Subsequently, both spectrum and amplitude evolve because of the motion of the temperature interface, and because of forcing by the flame front, which the analysis precisely quantifies. Oscillations in the front position are strong enough to result in flow reversal. In addition, the induced periodic acoustic acceleration of the temperature and density interface will periodically make the flame front Rayleigh–Taylor unstable, which should result in the dramatic increase in the propagation speed seen in experiments.  相似文献
