Syntheses, structures, and antimicrobial activities of cobalt(III) complexes with two tetradentate Schiff-base ligands, (BA)2en?=?bis(benzoylacetone)ethylenediimine dianion and (acac)2en?=?bis(acetylacetone)ethylenediimine dianion, and two axial pyridines (py) have been investigated. These complexes were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The crystal structures of the complexes were determined by X-ray crystallography. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that both complexes have distorted octahedral environments, Schiff-base ligand coordinates cobalt in four equatorial positions, and the two axial positions are occupied by pyridines. The pyridines and Schiff-base ligands are involved in N–H···O hydrogen bonds with perchlorate. Biological activities of the ligands and metal complexes have been studied on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Bacillus subtilis by the well diffusion method. The activity data show the metal complexes to be more potent than the parent ligand against two bacterial species.  相似文献

Four new mononuclear complexes, [Ni(L1)(NCS)2] (1), [Ni(L2)(NCS)2] (2), [Co(L1)(N3)2]ClO4 (3), and [Co(L2)(N3)2]ClO4 (4), where L1 and L2 are N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)methylidene]butane-1,4-diamine and N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)benzylidene]butane-1,4-diamine, respectively, have been prepared. The syntheses have been achieved by reaction of the respective metal perchlorate with the tetradentate Schiff bases, L1 and L2, in presence of thiocyanate (for 1 and 2) or azide (for 3 and 4). The complexes have been characterized by microanalytical, spectroscopic, single crystal X-ray diffraction and other physicochemical studies. Structural studies reveal that 14 are distorted octahedral geometries. The antibacterial activity of all the complexes and their constituent Schiff bases have been tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.  相似文献

Indium(III) chloride tetrahydrate and Schiff-base ligands derived from adamantaneamine and 3-/4-methoxysalicylaldehyde gave two complexes, C22H32Cl3InN2O3 (1) and C36H44Cl3InN2O4 (2), respectively. The complexes were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, molar conductance, thermal analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, P21/n space group with the asymmetric unit consisting of one indium(III), one N-(3-methoxysalicylidene)-aminoadamantane (L1), three chlorides and one N,N-dimethylformamide molecule. The indium is six-coordinate with reversed triangular-prism geometry via three oxygens and three chlorides. Complex 2 crystallizes in the triclinic system, P 1 space group; the asymmetric unit consists of one indium(III), two N-(4methoxysalicylidene)-aminoadamantane (L2), and three chlorides. The indium is five-coordinate with distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry via two oxygens and three chlorides. Antibacterial activities of the complexes have been investigated against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.  相似文献

Abstract

Four new mononuclear Schiff base manganese(III) and cobalt(III) complexes viz. [Mn(L1)(NCS)] (1), [Mn(L2)(NCS)] (2), [Co(L3)(NCS)] (3), and [Co(L4)(NCS)]·0.5CH3OH·0.5H2O (4), containing thiocyanate as a common pseudohalide ion are reported. The pentadentate Schiff base ligands H2L1, H2L2, H2L3, and H2L4 were obtained by the condensation of substituted salicylaldehydes with N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-methylpropane-1,3-diamine. The syntheses of the complexes have been achieved by the reaction of manganese(II) perchlorate or cobalt(II) perchlorate with the respective Schiff bases in the presence of thiocyanate in methanol medium. Complexes 14 have been characterized by microanalytical, spectroscopic, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other physicochemical studies. Structural studies reveal that 14 adopt nearly similar structures containing the MN4O2 (M?=?Mn, Co) chromophore in which each central M(III) ion adopts a distorted octahedral geometry. Weak intermolecular H-bonding interactions are operative in these complexes to bind the molecular units. The antibacterial activity of 14 and their constituent Schiff bases has been tested against some common bacteria.  相似文献

The mononuclear cobalt(III) complex [Co(L)2]Cl ·?H2O (1) (where L is H2N(CH2)2N=CC6H3(OMe)(O?)) has been prepared and characterized by IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, conductivity measurements, elemental analysis, TGA, cyclic voltammetry and an X-ray structure determination. The cobalt(III) coordination sphere in [Co(L)2] is cis-CoN4O2 with the NNO ligands. Electrochemical studies of 1 using cyclic voltammetry indicate an irreversible cathodic peak (E pc, ca ?0.60 V) corresponding to reduction of cobalt(III) to cobalt(II).  相似文献

Two new mononuclear nickel(II) complexes, [Ni(L)(N3)] (1) and [Ni(L)2(NCS)2] (2), where HL = 2-{[phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylidene]amino}benzenethiol, a tridentate Schiff base derived from 2-aminothiophenol and 2-benzoylpyridine, have been prepared and characterized. The syntheses of 1 and 2 have been achieved by the reaction of equimolar amounts of nickel perchlorate and HL in the presence of azide and thiocyanate, respectively. The complexes have been characterized by microanalytical, spectroscopic, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and other physicochemical studies. Structural studies reveal that 1 and 2 adopt two different geometries, distorted square planar in 1 and octahedral in 2. The two mononuclear complex units are held together by ππ or C–H…π weak intermolecular interactions to develop supramolecular networks in their solid states. The antibacterial activity of 1, 2 and their constituent Schiff base has been tested against some gram(+) and gram(?) bacteria.  相似文献

By condensation of rimantadine and substituted salicylaldehyde, three new Schiff bases, HL1, HL2 and HL3, were synthesized. Then, a mixture of one of the new ligands and cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate in ethanol led to 1, 2, and 3, respectively. These complexes were characterized by melting point, elemental analysis, infrared spectra, molar conductance, thermal analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, Pbcn space group; each asymmetric unit consists of one cobalt(II) ion, two deprotonated ligands, and one lattice water. The central cobalt is four coordinate via two nitrogens and two oxygens from the corresponding Schiff base ligand, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Complexes 2 and 3 crystallize in the monoclinic system, P21/c space group; each asymmetric unit consists of one cobalt(II), two corresponding deprotonated ligands, one lattice water, and one methanol. The central cobalt is also four-coordinate via two nitrogens and two oxygens from the corresponding Schiff base ligand, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry.  相似文献

Five mononuclear complexes of manganese(II) of a group of the general formula, [MnL(NCS)2] where the Schiff base L = N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene]ethane-1,2-diamine (L1), (1); N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)benzylidene]ethane-1,2-diamine (L2), (2); N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)methylidene]propane-1,2-diamine (L3), (3); N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene]propane-1,2-diamine (L4), (4) and N,N′-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)benzylidene]propane-1,2-diamine (L5), (5) have been prepared. The syntheses have been achieved by reacting manganese chloride with the corresponding tetradentate Schiff bases in presence of thiocyanate in the molar ratio of 1:1:2. The complexes have been characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and other physicochemical studies, including crystal structure determination of 1, 2 and 4. Structural studies reveal that the complexes 1, 2 and 4 adopt highly distorted octahedral geometry. The antibacterial activity of all the complexes and their respective Schiff bases has been tested against Gram(+) and Gram(−) bacteria.  相似文献

Abstract

A series of six new mononuclear Schiff base complexes, 16 of cobalt(III) of the general formula, [CoLX] or its adduct with methanol, is reported. The pentadentate Schiff base ligand (H2L) was obtained by the condensation of N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-methylpropane-1,3-diamine with 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethanone (H2L1) or 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)propan-1-one (H2L2). X stands for the pseudohalides, N3, N(CN)2? , and NCS. The complexes have been synthesized by the reaction of equimolar amounts of cobalt(II) nitrate with H2L1 or H2L2 in the presence of the respective pseudohalide in methanol medium. All the complexes have been characterized by microanalytical, spectroscopic, single crystal XRD (except 3), and other physicochemical studies. Structural studies reveal that the central Co(III) ion in 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 adopts a distorted octahedral geometry with a CoN4O2 chromophore. Weak intermolecular H-bonding and/or π-interactions are operative in these complexes to bind the molecular units. The antimicrobial activity of all the complexes and their constituent Schiff bases has been tested against some common bacteria and fungi.  相似文献

2,6-Diacetylpyridine bis(benzenesulfonohydrazide) Schiff bases (L1, L2 and L3) and their Cu(II) complexes of the general formula [CuL·H2O] were synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The crystal structure of [CuL3·(py)]·py was investigated by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. The Cu(II) cation has near square pyramidal, penta-coordinate geometry. The binegatively charged tetradentate Schiff base is asymmetrically coordinated to the Cu(II) ion via the pyridine N atom, the azomethine N atom, the sulfonyl O atom and the deprotonated hydrazine N atom. There is a pyridine molecule apically coordinated to the Cu(II) ion. All the Schiff bases and their copper(II) complexes were screened by the disc diffusion method against multi-drug resistant (MDR) gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were also determined. These results show that the antibacterial activity of the Schiff bases against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is enhanced when they are chelated with the copper(II) ion.  相似文献

Six new organotin(IV) complexes were synthesized by direct reaction of RSnCl3 (R?=?Me, Bu and Ph) or R2SnCl2 (R?=?Me, Bu and Ph) and 2-hydroxyacetophenone thiocarbohydrazone [H2APTC] under purified nitrogen in the presence of base in 1?:?2?:?1 molar ratio (metal: base: ligand). Complexes 2–7 have been characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivity, UV-Visible, IR and 1H NMR spectral studies. Complexes 27 are non-electrolytes. The molecular structure of [Me2Sn(APTC)]?·?(C2H5OH) (5) has been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The thiocarbohydrazone ligand (1) and 27 have been tested for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi and Enterococci aeruginosa.  相似文献

Two new Schiff bases (2,4-diiodo-6-[(2-morpholin-4-yl-ethylimino)-methyl]-phenol and 2,4-diiodo-6-[(3-morpholin-4-yl-propylimino)-methyl]-phenol), condensed from 3,5-diiodosalicylaldehyde with 2-morpholinoethylamine and 3-morpholinopropylamine, have been designed and synthesized. Reaction of the Schiff bases with Zn(OAc)2 · 2H2O, Cu(OAc)2 · H2O, Ni(OAc)2 · 4H2O, Co(OAc)2 · 4H2O, Cd(OAc)2 · 2H2O, Mn(OAc)2 · 4H2O, Fe(SO4)2 · 7H2O, and Hg(OAc)2 led to the formation of 16 new mononuclear complexes. The complexes were characterized by UV, Infrared, ESI-MS, and elemental analyses, and 3,5-diiodosalicylalidene-2-morpholinoethylaminozinc(II) (1) and 3,5-diiodosalicylalidene-2-morpholinoethylaminocopper(II) (2) were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Based on crystal structural analysis of 1 and 2, coupled with their spectral similarity with 316, it can be concluded that 316 have structures similar to 1 and 2. All the complexes were assayed for antibacterial activities against three Gram positive bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus faecalis) and three Gram negative bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter cloacae) by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide method. Among the complexes tested, 8 and 16 showed the most favorable antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.781, 12.5, 6.25, 3.125, 3.125, 6.25 and 1.562, 6.25, 1.562, 3.125, 3.125, 1.562 µg mL?1 against B. subtilis, S. aureus, S. faecalis, P. aeruginosa, E. coli, and E. cloacae, respectively.  相似文献

The tridentate ONO-donor Schiff base ligand derived from the condensation of 1-ferrocenyl-1,3-butanedione and 2-aminophenol, generated in situ and treated further with potassium tert-butoxide, reacted in THF with Co(NO3)2·6H2O in the presence of pyridine to afford the ionic complex [{(η5-C5H5)Fe(η5-C5H4)-C(O)CH=C(CH3)N-C6H4-2-O}2Co(III)]-[K(HOCH2CH3)2]+ (1, 50% yield). Compound 1 was characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and multidimensional 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the two metalloligands are meridionally coordinated to a Co(III) ion that adopts a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. The doubly solvated potassium counter-ion is asymmetrically positioned with respect to the two metalloligands. Such an arrangement allows the observation by 1H NMR of restricted rotation of the ferrocenyl units and the splitting of both carbonyl and imine carbons, thus suggesting that the structure observed in the solid state is retained in solution. Complex 1 exhibits in its cyclic voltammetry curve two anodic reversible waves attributed to the oxidation of Co(III)-phenolates into Co(III)-phenoxyl radical and that of the ferrocenyl fragment into its ferrocenium counterpart.  相似文献

Two novel complexes, [La(HL)(H2O)2NO3] · NO3 · H2O and [Gd(HL)(H2O)2NO3] · NO3 · H2O, where HL is a Schiff base derived from o-vanillin and lysine, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, IR, 1H NMR and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). The Schiff base ligand behaves as a tetradentate, coordinating through azomethine nitrogen, phenolic oxygen and two carboxylic oxygen atoms. The interaction of these complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was also investigated by spectrometric titration and viscometric measurements. The faint hypochromism of the complexes in the absorption spectra, the remarkable reduction of fluorescence intensity of ethidium bromide (EB) bound DNA, together with a small decrease in the viscosity of the DNA suggest that a partial intercalation may be the preferred binding mode between these two complexes and DNA. The antibacterial activity testing revealed that the complexes and their precursor Schiff base show a weak to moderate activity against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.   相似文献

Two new N2O2 unsymmetrical Schiff bases, H2L1 = 3-[({o-[(E)-(o-hydroxyphenyl)methylideneamino]phenyl}methyl)imino]-1-phenyl-1-buten-1-ol and H2L2 = 3-[({o-[(E)-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylideneamino]phenyl}methyl)imino]-1-phenyl-1-buten-1-ol, and their copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes, [CuL1] (1), [CuL2] (2), [NiL1] (3), and [NiL2] (4), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopic methods. The crystal structures of these complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction. The coordination geometry around Cu(II) and Ni(II) centers is described as distorted square planar in all complexes with the CuN2O2 coordination more distorted than the Ni ones. The electrochemical studies of these complexes indicate a good correlation between the structural distortion and the redox potentials of the metal centers. The ligand and metal complexes were also screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity.  相似文献

By condensation of amantadine and 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde a new Schiff base HL was synthesized. A mixture of HL and zinc(II) chloride in an alcoholic medium leads to [Zn(HL)2Cl2] (1). However, the same reactants gave another different complex (ZnL2) (2) in the presence of NaOH. The two complexes were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, molar conductance, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that complex 1 crystallizes in the triclinic system, Pī space group; each asymmetric unit consists of one zinc(II), two HL, and two chlorides. The tetra coordination of central zinc is attained by two chlorides and two oxygens from the Schiff base, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, P21/c space group; each asymmetric unit consists of one zinc(II) and two L. The tetra coordination of central zinc is attained by two nitrogens and two oxygens from the Schiff base, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry.  相似文献

Cobalt(II) complexes of a new series of unsymmetrical Schiff bases have been synthesized and characterized by their elemental analyses, melting points, magnetic susceptibility, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared (IR), and electronic spectral measurements. The purity of the ligands and the metal complexes are confirmed by microanalysis, while the unsymmetrical nature of the ligands was further corroborated by 1H-NMR. Comparison of the IR spectra of the Schiff bases and their metal complexes confirm that the Schiff bases are tetradentate and coordinated via N2O2 chromophore. The magnetic moments and electronic spectral data support square-planar geometry for the cobalt(II) complexes. The complexes were thermally stable to 372.3°C and their thermal decomposition was generally via the partial loss of the organic moiety. The Schiff bases and their complexes were screened for in vitro antibacterial activities against 10 human pathogenic bacteria and their minimum inhibitory concentrations were determined. Both the free ligands and cobalt(II) complexes exhibit antibacterial activities against some strains of the microorganisms, which in a number of cases were comparable with, or higher than, that of chloramphenicol.  相似文献

A Ni(II) complex of an acyclic pentadentate Schiff base was prepared by template condensation of two equivalents of 2-acetylpyridine with one equivalent of bis(3-aminopropyl)amine in the presence of Ni(II) in methanol. The resulting complex, [NiL33(MeOH)](ClO4)2 · CH3OH, was characterized by X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, and IR spectrophotometry. The X-ray crystallographic structure revealed a six-coordinate, distorted octahedral geometry in which the sixth coordination being achieved by a methanol molecule. A theoretical study at DFT (B3LYP) level using standard 6-31G* basis set for ligand atoms and LanL2DZ for metal showed that the experimentally determined structure of the cation is about 8–20 kcal mol?1 more stable than its geometrical isomers.  相似文献

The structure, spectroscopic, and electrochemical properties of [Co{(Me-sal)2dien}(N3)] and [Co{(Me-sal)2dpt}(N3)], where (Me-sal)2dien = 2,2′-[1,1′-(3-azapentane-1,5-diyldinitrilo)diethylidyne] diphenolate and (Me-sal)2dpt = 2,2′-[1,1′-(4-azapentane-1,7-diyldinitrilo)diethylidyne] diphenolate, have been investigated. These complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV–Vis, and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of these complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1, with a = 7.8443(4) Å, b = 11.0660(5) Å, c = 11.6216(6) Å, α = 73.360(1)°, β = 76.965(1)°, γ = 84.436(1)° and Z = 2. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, with a = 12.1985(13) Å, b = 10.9332(12) Å, c = 15.2808(16) Å, β = 76.965(1)° and Z = 4. The coordination geometry around cobalt(III) in both complexes is a distorted octahedron. The electrochemical reduction of these complexes at a glassy carbon electrode in acetonitrile indicates that the first reduction corresponding to CoIII–CoII is electrochemically irreversible, accompanied by dissociation of the axial Co–N(N3) bond. The second reduction step of Co(II/I) leads to decomposition of the complex. These observations are rationalized based on the structure-function relations.  相似文献
