Theoretical and experimental investigations of millimeterwave GaAs second harmonic transferred electron device (TED) oscillators using separate circuits for frequency and power optimization, are described. The theory predicts the oscillation frequency with less than 2% error for the second harmonic. Apart from the 2d and 3d, a 4'th harmonic from the TED was observed up to 130 GHz.  相似文献

An experiment was performed in which subjects had to judge whether the pitch of two sequential sounds went up or down. The sounds were harmonic two-tone complexes. They were constructed in such a way that the frequency of one harmonic remained fixed, the frequency of the other went up or down, and the missing fundamental moved in the opposite direction. Results show that, for partials of low harmonic order, most subjects tend to follow the frequency of the moving partial, whereas for partials of order 6 or higher, responses are divided more or less equally between tracking of the moving partial and tracking of the missing fundamental.  相似文献

The theory of ion acoustic harmonic production with stimulated Brillouin scattering is extended up to the third harmonic. We demonstrate, for the first time to our knowledge, a self-starting passive harmonic mode-locked femtosecond Yb3+-doped fiber laser with a scalable repetition rate of up to 585 MHz and >45 dB of supermode suppression. Pulse-to-pulse jitter of approximately 14 ps is measured by optical cross correlation at the ninth harmonic, and radiofrequency (RF) spectrum measurements show that certain correlations exist between pulses in harmonic mode. Our results suggest that one of the proposed passive harmonic mode-locking mechanisms may be dominant for this laser.  相似文献

We demonstrate the generation of up to the 63rd harmonic (lambda = 12.6 nm) of a Ti:sapphire laser pulse (150 fs, 10 mJ), using a prepulse- (210-ps,24-mJ) produced boron plasma as the nonlinear medium. The influence of various parameters on the harmonic conversion efficiency was analyzed. The steep decrease in intensity for low-order harmonics (up to 19th order) was followed by a plateau. Typical conversion efficiencies were evaluated to be 10(-4) (for a 3rd harmonic) to 10(-7) (within the plateau region). Harmonic generation appeared to be efficient for the plasma that comprised neutral atoms and singly ionized boron.  相似文献

We demonstrate a significant extension of the high-order harmonic cutoff by using a fully-ionized capillary discharge plasma as the generation medium. The preionized plasma dramatically reduces ionization-induced defocusing and energy loss of the driving laser due to ionization. This allows for significantly higher photon energies, up to 150 eV, to be generated from xenon ions, compared with the 70 eV observed previously. We also demonstrate enhancement of the harmonic flux of nearly 2 orders of magnitude at photon energies around 90 eV when the capillary discharge is used to ionize xenon, compared with harmonic generation in a hollow waveguide. The use of a plasma as a medium for high-order harmonic generation shows great promise for extending efficient harmonic generation to much shorter wavelengths using ions.  相似文献

We report on low-order harmonic generation utilising the plasmonic field enhancement in arrays of rod-type gold optical antennae. Furthermore, we examine their suitability to support high-order harmonic generation (HHG). The low-order harmonics are used as a tool to investigate the nonlinear properties of the antennae. Particular attention is paid to the thermal properties, which become significant at the peak intensities necessary for HHG. A theoretical model explains the experimental findings and enables future improvements. In experiments we observe up to the fifth harmonic order and measure a field enhancement sufficient to support high-order harmonic generation. Moreover, we find a damage threshold for the antennae.  相似文献

An experimental study of high-order harmonic generation in nitrogen molecules (N2) has been made using intense visible (616 nm) dye-laser pulses, where the harmonic radiation up to the 21st order is observed. The harmonic distribution represents a plateau that is preceded by an intensity minimum at the 7th order. The harmonic generation characteristics were atomic-like. It has been found that there are some similarities in the high-order harmonic generation characteristics for N2 and Ar, including the highest-order harmonics, harmonic distributions, and the influence of the multiphoton ionization on the high-order harmonic generation. These similarities are reasonably attributed to the energetic correspondence of excited levels and ionization potentials. It is pointed out that the ac Stark shift of excited levels and ionization potentials plays an important role also in the high-order harmonic generation in N2.  相似文献

X-ray harmonic radiation extending to 3.3 Å, 3.8 keV from Petawatt class laser-solid interactions is presented. The harmonic spectra display a relativistic limit scaling up to ~3000th order, above which an intensity dependent scaling roll-over is observed. Highly directional beamed emission for harmonic photon energy hν > 1 keV is found to be into a cone angle < 4°, significantly less than that of the incident laser cone (20°).  相似文献

We report, for the first time to our knowledge, the demonstration of amplitude equalization of high-repetition-rate pulses generated from a rational harmonic mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser. The output pulses are injected into another fiber laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror. This scheme provides pulse-amplitude equalization up to the ninth rational harmonic mode-locked pulse train.  相似文献

Optical bistability for two-level atomic system in a ring cavity is investigated outside the rotating wave approximation (RWA) using non-autonomous Maxwell-Bloch equations with Fourier decomposition up to first harmonic. A study of the variation of the spectral shape and the harmonic distribution of the high-order harmonics generated from silver plasma on the frequency chirp of the driving laser radiation (793 nm 48 fs) is reported. The results of the systematic study of the harmonic generation from the 21st order up to the 61st order (λ=13 nm) are presented. This work reports the potential use of high-overtone self-focusing acoustic transducers for high-frequency ultrasonic Doppler. By using harmonic frequencies of a thick bulk Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) transducer with a novel air-reflector Fresnel lens, we obtained strong ultrasound signals at 60 MHz (3rd harmonic) and 100 MHz (5th harmonic). Both experimental and theoretical analysis has demonstrated that the transducers can be applied to Doppler systems with high frequencies up to 100 MHz.  相似文献

We have observed extreme nonlinear optical phenomena produced by intense midinfrared (MIR) pulses in semiconductors. These phenomena include multiple off-resonance optical sidebands (up to +/-3 MIR photons interacting with a near-infrared photon), multiple MIR harmonics (up to the seventh harmonic), and significant broadening and modification of MIR harmonic spectra. The generation of these extreme MIR nonlinear optical phenomena is primarily aided by cross-phase modulation.  相似文献

The gyrotrons developed at the University of Sydney are tunable sources of millimetre and submillimetre radiation. The generation of submillimetre wavelengths requires operation at the second harmonic of the electron cyclotron frequency, or higher. Our latest gyrotron, GYROTRON IVA, has successfully achieved second harmonic operation and obtained frequencies up to 590 GHz (=0.51 mm). The experimental results and conditions for second harmonic operation will be presented. The design of a new gyrotron, GYROTRON V, which is especially optimised for the second harmonic, will also be included.  相似文献
