利用低温扫描隧道显微镜(LT-STM)研究了酞菁铜(CuPc)分子在Bi(111)表面上的吸附和手性自组装结构。由于较弱的分子-衬底相互作用,我们发现在液氮温度(78 K)下吸附在Bi(111)表面上的单个CuPc分子围绕着分子中心发生旋转,直到遇到其他分子形成团簇为止。随着分子覆盖度的增加,CuPc分子形成了自组装分子单层。高分辨STM图表明,非手性的CuPc分子出现了手性特征:两个相对的酞菁基团发生了弯曲。当覆盖度超过一个分子层,酞菁铜分子的吸附取向由“平躺”转变到“站立”姿态。我们认为,酞菁铜分子的手性起源是由两种因素共同导致的结果:一种是分子-衬底之间的非对称电荷转移,另一种是相邻分子间的非对称性的范德华力作用。  相似文献

Copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) on reconstructed rutile TiO(2) was studied with ultrahigh vacuum variable temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. On cross-linked TiO(2)(110)-(1 x 2), the CuPc molecules at low coverages sparsely lay flat at the link sites and tilted in troughs between [001] rows. Increase of the CuPc coverage led to the trapping of the CuPc molecules by the rectangular surface cells fenced by the oxygen columns along the [001] direction and the cross-link rows. Each cell could trap one CuPc molecule at intermediate coverages and two CuPc molecules at higher coverages. On TiO(2)(210), the CuPc molecules tilted in defect-free areas and lay at defect sites with their molecular planes parallel to the substrate surface. Further increase of the CuPc coverage induced the formation of one- and two-dimensional assemblies on TiO(2)(210).  相似文献

Adsorption structures and interaction of cyclohexane molecules on the clean and hydrogen-preadsorbed Rh(111) surfaces were investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy, spot-profile-analysis low-energy electron diffraction, temperature-programmed desorption, and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). Various ordered structures of adsorbed cyclohexane were observed as a function of hydrogen and cyclohexane coverages. When the fractional coverage (θ(H)) of preadsorbed hydrogen was below 0.8, four different commensurate or higher-order commensurate superstructures were found as a function of θ(H); whereas more densely packed incommensurate overlayers became dominant at higher θ(H). IRAS measurements showed sharp softened C-H vibrational peaks at 20 K, which originate from the electronic interaction between adsorbed cyclohexane and the Rh surface. The multiple softened C-H stretching peaks in each phase are due to the variation in the adsorption distance from the substrate. At high hydrogen coverages they became attenuated in intensity and eventually diminished at θ(H) = 1. The gradual disappearance of the soft mode correlates well with the structural phase transition from commensurate structures to incommensurate structures with increasing hydrogen coverage. The superstructure of adsorbed cyclohexane is controlled by the delicate balance between adsorbate-adsorbate and adsorbate-substrate interactions which are affected by preadsorbed hydrogen.  相似文献

Para-halosubstituted thiophenols (X-TPs, where X is Br, Cl, or F) form ordered islands and monolayers on Cu(111) at temperatures as low as 81 K. At incomplete coverages, all X-TPs adsorb with the dehydrogenated thiol group attached to the substrate and the substituted ring inclined toward the surface, as verified experimentally and theoretically. The structure of ordered islands has a pronounced dependence on the nature of the halogen substituent: while unsubstituted TP and pentafluoro-TP molecules do not self-assemble into extended ordered patterns at 81 K, X-TP molecules form a range of different structures which depend both on the size and electronegativity of the substituent, as well as on the coverage.  相似文献

The adsorption and molecular orientation of Dy@C82 isomer I on Au(111) has been investi-gated using ultrahigh-vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy at 80 K. At low coverages, the Dy@C82 molecules tend to grow along the step edges of Au(111), forming small clusters and molecular chains. Adsorption of Dy@C82 on the edges is dominated by the fullerene-substrate interaction and presents various molecular orientations. At higher coverages, the Dy@C82 is found to form ordered islands consisting of small domains of equally oriented molecules. The Dy@C82 molecules in the islands prefer the adsorption configurations with the major C2 axis being approximately parallel to the surface of the substrate. Three preferable orientations of the Dy@C82 molecules are found in a two-dimensional hexagonal close packed overlayer. These observations are attributed to the interplay of the fullerene-substrate interaction and dipole-dipole interaction between the metallofullerenes.  相似文献

Molecular orientations and assembled structures of C(60) molecules on Pt(111) have been characterized by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy for coverage between 0.1 ML and 1.5 ML. At room temperature, C(60) molecules preferentially decorate the steps and nucleate into single layer islands (SLIs) with hexagonal close-packed structures upon increasing coverage. C(60) islands comprise two differently oriented C(60)∕Pt(111)-(√13?×?√13) R13.9° phases, in which five types of molecular orientation of C(60) carbon cage configurations are clearly identified by the high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy image. Further annealing treatment leads to more uniform molecular orientation without apparent aggregation of C(60) SLIs. As coverage increases above 1 ML, domains corresponding to (2√3?×?2√3) R30° superstructure appear. To explain the above transformation, an interfacial reconstruction model is proposed according to the detailed study of the molecular adsorption structures in different domains.  相似文献

Using temperature‐programmed desorption, supported by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy, a comprehensive overview of the main reactions of 5,10,15,20‐tetraphenyl‐21H,23H‐porphyrin (2HTPP) on Cu(111) as a function of coverage and temperature is obtained. Three reactions were identified: metalation with Cu substrate atoms, stepwise partial dehydrogenation, and finally complete dehydrogenation. At low coverage the reactions are independent of coverage, but at higher coverage metalation becomes faster and partial dehydrogenation slower. This behavior is explained by a weaker interaction between the iminic nitrogen atoms and the Cu(111) surface in the high‐coverage checkerboard structure, leading to faster metalation, and the stabilizing effect of T‐type interactions in the CuTPP islands formed at high coverage after metalation, leading to slower dehydrogenation. Based on the amount of hydrogen released and the appearance in STM, a structure of the partially dehydrogenated molecule is suggested.  相似文献

采用扫描隧道显微镜(STM)和密度泛函理论(DFT)研究了78 K时单个叔丁胺分子在Cu(111)表面的吸附位. 我们提出以共吸附的一氧化碳√3 ×√3 超结构为基底铜原子的标识方法, 确定了低覆盖度的叔丁胺分子在Cu(111)表面的吸附位为顶位. 而采用单个一氧化碳分子标识基底铜原子的位置, 同样得出了叔丁胺分子的吸附位为顶位. 此外, 还采用DFT计算叔丁胺分子在Cu(111)表面的优势吸附构型. 理论计算结果表明顶位吸附构型为能量最稳定的构型, 与实验结果相吻合.  相似文献

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has been used to directly investigate the local structure of methyl isocyanide (CNCH3) adsorbed on Pt(111). At low coverages, CNCH3 is preferentially adsorbed at on-top sites, in agreement with earlier deductions based on vibrational spectroscopy. When dosed at low coverages at 50 K, the molecules tend to adsorb near other CNCH3 molecules with preferred distances of a and a, where a = 2.78 A is the lattice constant of Pt. Annealing the surface to 120 K, however, results in a more uniform separation of the molecules. At higher coverages, the CNCH3 molecules are observed to occupy both on-top and two-fold bridge sites. On the basis of STM image analysis, CNCH3 forms an ordered layer of (2 x 3) periodicity at 0.33 ML. Additional details on the structures of CNCH3 adsorbed at the on-top and two-fold bridge sites are provided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. At a coverage that saturates the first layer (0.33 ML), the occupation ratio for the on-top and two-fold bridge bonded CNCH3 is 1:1, which is consistent with the results obtained from the combined use of experimental reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) data and DFT calculations.  相似文献

The molecular structure of thin pentacene film grown on a Cu(119) surface has been studied by near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy. The interaction between the π-molecular orbitals delocalized on the aromatic rings and the underlying copper substrate was deduced from XAS spectra. Pentacene molecules arrange with the main axis almost parallel with the Cu terraces according to the measured polarization dependence of the C 1s absorption spectra. For thickness exceeding 4 nm an upright arrangement of the molecules was observed with a dense herringbone-like ordering. The present study thus demonstrates that highly ordered pentacene films can be obtained on a Cu(119) vicinal surface both in a flat orientation for low coverages and in a bulk-like herringbone orientation for higher coverages.  相似文献

The self-assembly of l-tryptophan on Cu(111) is investigated by an ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscope (STM) at 4.4 K. When deposited onto the substrate at around 120 K with a coverage of 0.1 monolayer, molecular trimers, tetramers, hexamers, and chains coexist on Cu(111). Then almost all molecules self-assemble into chiral hexamers after being annealed at room temperature. When increasing molecular coverage to the full layer, a new type of chain is observed on the surface. Based on the high-resolution STM images at sub-molecular level, we suggest that the l-tryptophan molecules are present in neutral, zwitterionic or anionic states in these structures.  相似文献

Hydrogen-bonded assembly of methanol on Cu(111)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Investigation of methanol's surface chemistry on metals is a crucial step towards understanding the reactivity of this important chemical feedstock. Cu is a relevant metal for methanol synthesis and reforming, but due to the weak interaction of methanol with Cu, an atomic scale view of methanol's coverage-dependent ordering and self-assembly on Cu(111), the most abundant facet of most nanoparticles, has not yet been possible. Low and variable temperature scanning tunneling microscopy coupled with density functional theory reveal a coverage-dependent range of highly ordered structures stabilized by two hydrogen bonds per molecule. While extended chains that resemble the hydrogen-bonded zigzag structures reported for solid methanol are an efficient way to pack methanol at higher coverages, lower surface coverages yield isolated hexamer units. These hexamers form the same number of hydrogen bonds as the chains but appear to repel one another on the surface. Annealing treatments lead to the desorption of methanol with almost no decomposition. This data serves as a useful guide to both the preferred adsorption geometries and energies of a variety of methanol structures on Cu(111) surfaces as a function of surface coverage.  相似文献

The coverage dependent formation of ordered structures in vapor deposited 2,4'-bis(terpyridine)derivatives (2,4'-BTP) on (111) oriented Ag films was investigated by STM. Following a two-dimensional (2D) disordered gas phase at lowest coverages, a sequence of at least three ordered structures is observed with increasing coverage. These include a 'parallel chain structure' (PCS), a 'quasi-quadratic network' (QQN) structure, and a 'packed windmill structure' (PWS), with ideal coverages of 0.37, 0.4, and 0.44 molecules nm(-2). At intermediate coverages between 0.37 and 0.44 molecules nm(-2), these structures coexist in larger islands. The energetics of the different phases, whose structures are mainly determined by attractive C-H[dot dot dot]N bridges, are discussed in a picture including C-H[dot dot dot]N and C-H[dot dot dot]H-C interactions and lateral variations in the substrate-adsorbate interactions.  相似文献

The self-assembly of three porphyrin derivatives was studied in detail on a Cu(111) substrate by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). All derivatives have two 4-cyanophenyl substituents in diagonally opposed meso-positions of the porphyrin core, but differ in the nature of the other two meso-alkoxyphenyl substituents. At coverages below 0.8 monolayers, two derivatives form molecular chains, which evolve into nanoporous networks at higher coverages. The third derivative self-assembles directly into a nanoporous network without showing a one-dimensional phase. The pore-to-pore distances for the three networks depend on the size and shape of the alkoxy substituents. All observed effects are explained by 1) different steric demands of the alkoxy residues, 2) apolar (mainly dispersion) interactions between the alkoxy chains, 3) polar bonding involving both cyanophenyl and alkoxyphenyl substituents, and 4) the entropy/enthalpy balance of the network formation.  相似文献

Adsorption structures formed upon vapor deposition of the natural amino acid L-cysteine onto the (111) surface of gold have been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. Following deposition at room temperature and at cysteine coverages well below saturation of the first monolayer, we found coexistence of unordered molecular islands and extended domains of a highly ordered molecular overlayer of quadratic symmetry. As the coverage was increased, a number of other structures with local hexagonal order emerged and became dominant. Neither of the room temperature, as-deposited, ordered structures showed any fixed rotational relationship to the underlying gold substrate, suggesting a comparatively weak and nonspecific molecule-substrate interaction. Annealing of the cysteine-covered substrate to 380 K lead to marked changes in the observed adsorption structures. At low coverages, the unordered islands developed internal order and their presence started to perturb the appearance of the surrounding Au(111) herringbone reconstruction. At coverages beyond saturation of the first monolayer, annealing led to development of a ( radical3 x radical3)R30 degrees superstructure accompanied by the formation of characteristic monatomically deep etch pits, i.e., the behavior typically observed for alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers on Au(111). The data thus show that as-deposited and thermally annealed cysteine adsorption structures are quite different and suggest that thermal activation is required before vacuum deposited cysteine becomes covalently bound to single crystalline Au(111).  相似文献

Low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy has been used to characterize the various structures of submonolayer and near-monolayer coverages of benzene (C6H6) on Au[111] at 4 K. At low coverage, benzene is found to adsorb preferentially at the top of the Au monatomic steps and is weakly adsorbed on the terraces. At near-monolayer coverage, benzene was found to form several long-range commensurate overlayer structures that depend on the regions of the reconstructed Au[111] surface, namely a (radical 52 x radical 52)R13.9 degrees structure over the hcp regions and a (radical 133 x radical 133)R17.5 degrees "pinwheel" structure over the fcc regions. Time-lapse imaging revealed concerted cascade motion of the benzene molecules in the (radical 133 x radical 133)R17.5 degrees pinwheel overlayer. We demonstrate that the observed cascade motion is a result of concerted molecular motion and not independent random motion.  相似文献

The adsorption of trimesic acid (TMA) on Cu(110) has been studied in the temperature range between 130 and 550 K and for coverages up to one monolayer. We combine scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations to produce a detailed adsorption phase diagram for the TMA/Cu(110) system as a function of the molecular coverage and the substrate temperature. We identify a quite complex set of adsorption phases, which are determined by the interplay between the extent of deprotonation, the intermolecular bonding, and the overall energy minimization. For temperatures up to 280 K, TMA molecules are only partly deprotonated and form hydrogen-bonded structures, which locally exhibit organizational chirality. Above this threshold, the molecules deprotonate completely and form supramolecular metal-organic structures with Cu substrate adatoms. These structures exist in the form of single and double coordination chains, with the molecular coverage driving distinct phase transitions.  相似文献

The adsorption behavior and the mobility of 2H-Tetranaphthylporphyrin (2HTNP) on Cu(111) was investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at room temperature (RT). The molecules adsorb, like the structurally related 2HTPP, in the “inverted” structure with the naphthyl plane restricted to an orientation parallel to the Cu surface. The orientation of the four naphthyl groups yields altogether 16 possible conformations. Due to the existence of rotamer pairs, 10 different appearances are expected on the surface, and all of them are identified by STM at RT. Most interestingly, the orientation of the naphthyl groups significantly influences the diffusion behavior of the molecules on Cu(111). We identify three different groups of conformers, which are either immobile, medium or fast diffusing at RT. The mobility seems to decrease with increasing size of the footprint of the conformers on the surface.  相似文献

Chemisorption of hydrogen on Pd{111} is a relatively simple, yet important surface chemical process. By using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, tip-induced motion of adsorbed atomic hydrogen at 4 K has been observed at low coverage. The motion has been ascribed to excitation of vibrational modes that decay into translational modes; vibrational spectroscopy via inelastic electron tunneling corroborates this assignment, and the barrier to hydrogen atom motion has been determined. At higher coverages, tip-induced motion of vacancies in the hydrogen overlayer is observed, and the associated barrier has also been determined.  相似文献
