This paper presents an integer programming model and describes a GRASP based algorithm to solve a vehicle routing and scheduling problem for the collection of Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The difficulty of this problem arises from the fact that it is characterized by four variants of the vehicle routing problem that have been studied independently in the literature, but not together. The experimental analysis on a large set of randomly-generated instances shows the good performance of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, computational results using real data show that the method outperforms real existing approaches to reverse logistics.  相似文献

Disruptions in airline operations can result in infeasibilities in aircraft and passenger schedules. Airlines typically recover aircraft schedules and disruptions in passenger itineraries sequentially. However, passengers are severely affected by disruptions and recovery decisions. In this paper, we present a mathematical formulation for the integrated aircraft and passenger recovery problem that considers aircraft and passenger related costs simultaneously. Using the superimposition of aircraft and passenger itinerary networks, passengers are explicitly modeled in order to use realistic passenger related costs. In addition to the common routing recovery actions, we integrate several passenger recovery actions and cruise speed control in our solution approach. Cruise speed control is a very beneficial action for mitigating delays. On the other hand, it adds complexity to the problem due to the nonlinearity in fuel cost function. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model. We show that the problem can be reformulated as conic quadratic mixed integer programming (CQMIP) problem which can be solved with commercial optimization software such as IBM ILOG CPLEX. Our computational experiments have shown that we could handle several simultaneous disruptions optimally on a four-hub network of a major U.S. airline within less than a minute on the average. We conclude that proposed approach is able to find optimal tradeoff between operating and passenger-related costs in real time.  相似文献

We study a selective and periodic inventory routing problem (SPIRP) and develop an Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search (ALNS) algorithm for its solution. The problem concerns a biodiesel production facility collecting used vegetable oil from sources, such as restaurants, catering companies and hotels that produce waste vegetable oil in considerable amounts. The facility reuses the collected waste oil as raw material to produce biodiesel. It has to meet certain raw material requirements either from daily collection, or from its inventory, or by purchasing virgin oil. SPIRP involves decisions about which of the present source nodes to include in the collection program, and which periodic (weekly) routing schedule to repeat over an infinite planning horizon. The objective is to minimize the total collection, inventory and purchasing costs while meeting the raw material requirements and operational constraints. A single-commodity flow-based mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model was proposed for this problem in an earlier study. The model was solved with 25 source nodes on a 7-day cyclic planning horizon. In order to tackle larger instances, we develop an ALNS algorithm that is based on a rich neighborhood structure with 11 distinct moves tailored to this problem. We demonstrate the performance of the ALNS, and compare it with the MILP model on test instances containing up to 100 source nodes.  相似文献

This paper addresses multi-depot location arc routing problems with vehicle capacity constraints. Two mixed integer programming models are presented for single and multi-depot problems. Relaxing these formulations leads to other integer programming models whose solutions provide good lower bounds for the total cost. A powerful insertion heuristic has been developed for solving the underlying capacitated arc routing problem. This heuristic is used together with a novel location–allocation heuristic to solve the problem within a simulated annealing framework. Extensive computational results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can find high quality solutions. We also show that the potential cost saving resulting from adding location decisions to the capacitated arc routing problem is significant.  相似文献

The use of integrated circuits in high-performance computing, telecommunications, and consumer electronics has been growing at a very fast pace. The level of integration as measured by the number of logic gates in a chip has been steadily rising due to the rapid progress in processing and interconnect technology. The interconnect delay in VLSI circuits has become a critical determiner of circuit performance. As a result, circuit layout is starting to play a more important role in today’s chip designs. Global routing is one of the key sub-problems of circuit layout which involves finding an approximate path for the wires connecting the elements of the circuit without violating resource constraints. In this paper, several integer programming (ILP) based global routing models are fully investigated and explored. The resulting ILP problem is relaxed and solved as a linear programming (LP) problem followed by a rounding heuristic to obtain an integer solution. Experimental results obtained show that the proposed combined WVEM (wirelength, via, edge capacity) model can optimize several global routing objectives simultaneously and effectively. In addition, several hierarchical methods are combined with the proposed flat ILP based global router to reduce the CPU time by about 66% on average for edge capacity model (ECM).  相似文献

Given a series-parallel queueing network topology with exponential servers of finite capacity, a systematic design methodology is presented that approximately solves the optimal routing and buffer space allocation problems within the network. The multi-objective stochastic nonlinear programming problem in integer variables is described and a two-stage iterative optimization procedure is presented which interconnects the routing and buffer space allocation problems. The algorithmic procedure couples the Expansion method, a decomposition method for computing performance measures in queueing networks with finite capacity, along with Powell's unconstrained optimization procedure which allocates the buffers and a multi-variable search procedure for determining the routing probabilities. The effectiveness and efficiency of the resulting two-stage design methodology is tested and evaluated in a series of experimental designs along with simulations of the network topologies.  相似文献

The generalized vehicle routing problem (GVRP) is an extension of the vehicle routing problem (VRP) and was introduced by Ghiani and Improta [1]. The GVRP is the problem of designing optimal delivery or collection routes from a given depot to a number of predefined, mutually exclusive and exhaustive node-sets (clusters) which includes exactly one node from each cluster, subject to capacity restrictions. The aim of this paper is to provide two new models of the GVRP based on integer programming. The first model, called the node formulation is similar to the Kara-Bekta? formulation [2], but produces a stronger lower bound. The second one, called the flow formulation, is completely new. We show as well that under specific circumstances the proposed models of the GVRP reduces to the well known routing problems. Finally, the GVRP is extended for the case in which the vertices of any cluster of each tour are contiguous. This case is defined as the clustered generalized vehicle routing problem and both of the proposed formulations of GVRP are adapted to clustered case.  相似文献

Maritime cabotage is a legislation published by a particular coastal country, which is used to conduct the cargo transportation between its two domestic ports. This paper proposes a two-phase mathematical programming model to formulate the liner hub-and-spoke shipping network design problem subject to the maritime cabotage legislations, i.e., the hub location and feeder allocation problem for phase I and the ship route design with ship fleet deployment problem for phase II. The problem in phase I is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming model. By developing a hub port expanding technique, the problem in phase II is formulated as a vehicle routing problem with pickup and delivery. A Lagrangian relaxation based solution method is proposed to solve it. Numerical implementations based on the Asia–Europe–Oceania shipping services are carried out to account for the impact analysis of the maritime cabotage legislations on liner hub-and-spoke shipping network design problem.  相似文献

This paper studies a real-life multi-attribute profit collecting vehicle routing problem, arising in the collection operations of a charity organisation in the United Kingdom. The problem involves a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles of different capacities, mandatory visits to a subset of vertices, time windows, rest requirements associated with maximum driving and working times, and partial collection. A mixed integer programming formulation of the problem is described, along with three matheuristics based on Tabu Search and Large Neighbourhood Search. Computational results on instances derived from the case study are presented, and insights are given from a practical implementation.  相似文献

We develop a method to determine the topology of a network that interconnects a number of token rings using source routing bridges. The purpose is to compute a topology that provides low response delays for network users at a minimal cost of bridge installations. We formulate this network design problem as a mixed binary integer linear program. We develop effective heuristic algorithms. The algorithms exploit the topology and routing solutions of the linear programming relaxation in a sophisticated manner which we believe is new in the literature. The model incorporates performance issues, such as network stability, bridge overflow, back pressure effect and broadcast storm, that are specific to the underlying communication technology. By formally incorporating these performance issues, we tighten the model formulation and improve the quality of the LP bound considerably. Computational results are reported for problems with up to 20 token rings and 190 potential bridge locations.  相似文献

In the paper we consider a communication network that uses diversity coding in order to achieve reliability. Having a set of demands and a network topology we face a problem of optimal routing of the demands and backup trees, and associations between the demands and the backup trees. We present a compact mixed integer programming (MIP) formulation for the optimization problem, which proves to be more efficient than other approaches that can be found in the literature.  相似文献

We consider a cement delivery problem with an heterogeneous fleet of vehicles and several depots. The demands of the customers are typically larger than the capacity of the vehicles which means that most customers are visited several times. This is a split delivery vehicle routing problem with additional constraints. We first propose a two phase solution method that assigns deliveries to the vehicles, and then builds vehicle routes. Both subproblems are formulated as integer linear programming problems. We then show how to combine the two phases in a single integer linear program. Experiments on real life instances are performed to compare the performance of the two solution methods.  相似文献

We study a multicommodity routing problem faced by an intermodal service operator that uses ground and maritime transportation. Given a planning horizon, a?set of commodities to be picked up at their release times and to be delivered not later than their duedates, the problem is to decide on routes for these commodities using trucks and scheduled and capacitated maritime services at minimum cost of transportation and stocking at the seaports. Two mixed integer programming formulations and valid inequalities are proposed for this problem. Medicines or drugs have unique characteristics of short life cycle, small size, light weight, restrictive distribution time and the need of temperature and humidity control (selected items only). Thus, logistics companies often use different types of vehicles with different carrying capacities, and considering fixed and variable costs in service delivery, which make the vehicle assignment and route optimization more complicated. In this study, we formulate the problem to a multi-type vehicle assignment and mixed integer programming route optimization model with fixed fleet size under the constraints of distribution time and carrying capacity. Given non-deterministic polynomial hard and optimal algorithm can only be used to solve small-size problem, a hybrid particle swarm intelligence (PSI) heuristic approach, which adopts the crossover and mutation operators from genetic algorithm and 2-opt local search strategy, is proposed to solve the problem. We also adapt a principle based on cost network and Dijkstra’s algorithm for vehicle scheduling to balance the distribution time limit and the high loading rate. We verify the relative performance of the proposed method against several known optimal or heuristic solutions using a standard data set for heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem. Additionally, we compare the relative performance of our proposed Hybrid PSI algorithm with two intelligent-based algorithms, Hybrid Population Heuristic algorithm and Improved Genetic Algorithm, using a real-world data set to illustrate the practical and validity of the model and algorithm.

Many design decisions in transporation, communication, and manufacturing planning can be modeled as problems of routing multiple commodities between various origin and destination nodes of a directed network. Each arc of the network is uncapacitated and carries a fixed charge as well as a cost per unit of flow. We refer to the general problem of selecting a subset of arcs and routing the required multi-commodity flows along the chosen arcs at a minimum total cost as the fixed charge network design problem. This paper focuses on strenghthening the linear programming relaxation of a path-flow formulation for this problem. The considerable success achieved by researchers in solving many related design problems with algorithms that use strong linear programming-based lower bounds motivates this study. We first develop a convenient characterization of fractional extreme points for the network design linear programming relaxation. An auxiliary graph introduced for this characterization also serves to generate two families of cuts that exclude some fractional solutions without eliminating any feasible integer solutions. We discuss a separation procedure for one class of inequalities and demonstrate that many of our results generalize known properties of the plant location problem. This work proposes a new integer programming model for the partition coloring problem and a branch-and-price algorithm to solve it. Experiments are reported for random graphs and instances originating from routing and wavelength assignment problems arising in telecommunication network design. With the fast developments in product remanufacturing to improve economic and environmental performance, an environmental closed-loop supply (ECLSC) chain is important for enterprises' competitiveness. In this paper, a robust ECLSC network is investigated which includes multiple plants, collection centers, demand zones, and products, and consists of both forward and reverse supply chains. First, a robust multi-objective mixed integer nonlinear programming model is proposed to deal with ECLSC considering two conflicting objectives simultaneously, as well as the uncertain nature of the supply chain. Cost parameters of the supply chain and demand fluctuations are subject to uncertainty. The first objective function aims to minimize the economical cost and the second objective function is to minimize the environmental influence. Then, the proposed model is solved as a single-objective mixed integer programming model applying the LP-metrics method. Finally, numerical example has been presented to test the model. The results indicate that the proposed model is applicable in practice.  相似文献

This paper proposes a Benders-like partitioning algorithm to solve the network loading problem. The approach is an iterative method in which the integer programming solver is not used to produce the best integer point in the polyhedral relaxation of the set of feasible capacities. Rather, it selects an integer solution that is closest to the best known integer solution. Contrary to previous approaches, the method does not exploit the original mixed integer programming formulation of the problem. The effort of computing integer solutions is entirely left to a pure integer programming solver while valid inequalities are generated by solving standard nonlinear multicommodity flow problems. The method is compared to alternative approaches proposed in the literature and appears to be efficient for computing good upper bounds.  相似文献
