Let X be a Banach space, K be a scattered compact and T: B C(K)X be a Fréchet smooth operator whose derivative is uniformly continuous. We introduce the smooth biconjugate T**: B C(K)**X** and prove that if T is noncompact, then the derivative of T** at some point is a noncompact linear operator. Using this we conclude, among other things, that either is compact or that ℓ1 is a complemented subspace of X*. We also give some relevant examples of smooth functions and operators, in particular, a C 1,u -smooth noncompact operator from B c O which does not fix any (affine) basic sequence. P. We define K-homology groups K * () for small C * -categories in terms of Hilbert modules over the C * -category . We also define a functor A f from the category of small C * -categories into the category of C * -algebras and show that there is a natural isomorphism . In addition, we give an easy construction of a functor from the category of C * -algebras into the category of symmetric spectra which represents K-homology, i.e. we show that the functor comes with a natural isomorphism for C * -algebras A. It then follows that the composition A f provides a functor that can be used in the Davis-Lück approach for constructing the Baum-Connes map.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to strict K-monotonicity and K-order continuity in symmetric spaces. Using a local approach to the geometric structure in a symmetric space E we investigate a connection between strict K-monotonicity and global convergence in measure of a sequence of the maximal functions. Next, we solve an essential problem whether an existence of a point of K-order continuity in a symmetric space E on \([0,\infty )\) implies that the embedding \(E\hookrightarrow {L^1}[0,\infty )\) does not hold. We present a complete characterization of an equivalent condition to K-order continuity in a symmetric space E using a notion of order continuity and the fundamental function of E. We also investigate a relationship between strict K-monotonicity and K-order continuity in symmetric spaces and show some examples of Lorentz spaces and Marcinkiewicz spaces having these properties or not. Finally, we discuss a local version of a crucial correspondence between order continuity and the Kadec–Klee property for global convergence in measure in a symmetric space E.  相似文献

A line is sought in the plane which minimizes the sum of the k largest (Euclidean) weighted distances from n given points. This problem generalizes the known straight-line center and median problems and, as far as the authors are aware, has not been tackled up to now. By way of geometric duality it is shown that such a line may always be found which either passes through two of the given points or lying at equal weighted distance from three of these. This allows construction of an algorithm to find all t-centrum lines for 1 ≤ t ≤ k in O((k + logn)n 3). Finally it is shown that both, the characterization of an optimal line and the algorithm, can be extended to any smooth norm.  相似文献

We verify a conjecture of Rognes by establishing a localization cofiber sequence of spectra \(K(\mathbb{Z})\to K(ku)\to K(KU) \to\Sigma K(\mathbb{Z})\) for the algebraic K-theory of topological K-theory. We deduce the existence of this sequence as a consequence of a dévissage theorem identifying the K-theory of the Waldhausen category of finitely generated finite stage Postnikov towers of modules over a connective \(A_\infty\) ring spectrum R with the Quillen K-theory of the abelian category of finitely generated \(\pi_{0}R\)-modules.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a two-parameter polynomial generalization, denoted by \(\mathcal {G}_{a,b}(n,k;r)\), of the r-Lah numbers which reduces to these recently introduced numbers when a = b = 1. We present several identities for \(\mathcal {G}_{a,b}(n,k;r)\) that generalize earlier identities given for the r-Lah and r-Stirling numbers. We also provide combinatorial proofs of some earlier identities involving the r-Lah numbers by defining appropriate sign-changing involutions. Generalizing these arguments yields orthogonality-type relations that are satisfied by \(\mathcal {G}_{a,b}(n,k;r)\).  相似文献

We define and investigate separable K-linear categories. We show that such a category C is locally finite and that every left C-module is projective. We apply our main results to characterize separable linear categories that are spanned by groupoids or delta categories.  相似文献

A code for computing the p-variation of a piecewise monotone function is introduced. The code is publicly available in the R environment package under the name pvar. The algorithm is based on some properties of the p-variation of a piecewise monotone function proved in this paper. The mathematical results may have their own interest.  相似文献

We give closed form evaluations for many families of integrals, whose integrands contain algebraic functions of the complete elliptic integrals K and E. Our methods exploit the rich structures connecting complete elliptic integrals, Jacobi theta functions, lattice sums, and Eisenstein series. Various examples are given, and along the way new (including 10-dimensional) lattice sum evaluations are produced.  相似文献

Let λK m,n be a complete bipartite multigraph with two partite sets having m and n vertices, respectively. A K p,q -factorization of λK m,n is a set of edge-disjoint K p,q -factors of λK m,n which partition the set of edges of λK m,n . When p = 1 and q is a prime number, Wang, in his paper [On K 1,q -factorization of complete bipartite graph, Discrete Math., 126: (1994), 359-364], investigated the K 1,q -factorization of K m,n and gave a sufficient condition for such a factorization to exist. In papers [K 1,k -factorization of complete bipartite graphs, Discrete Math., 259: 301-306 (2002),; K p,q -factorization of complete bipartite graphs, Sci. China Ser. A-Math., 47: (2004), 473-479], Du and Wang extended Wang’s result to the case that p and q are any positive integers. In this paper, we give a sufficient condition for λK m,n to have a K p,q -factorization. As a special case, it is shown that the necessary condition for the K p,q -factorization of λK m,n is always sufficient when p : q = k : (k + 1) for any positive integer k.  相似文献

A sixth-order numerical scheme is developed for general nonlinear fifth-order two point boundary-value problems. The standard sextic spline for the solution of fifth order two point boundary-value problems gives only O(h 2) accuracy and leads to non-optimal approximations. In order to derive higher orders of accuracy, high order perturbations of the problem are generated and applied to construct the numerical algorithm. O(h 6) global error estimates obtained for these problems. The convergence properties of the method is studied. This scheme has been applied to the system of nonlinear fifth order two-point boundary value problem too. Numerical results are given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method computationally. Results from the numerical experiments, verify the theoretical behavior of the orders of convergence.  相似文献

We show that if K is a compact metric space then C(K) is a 2-absolute Lipschitz retract. We then study the best Lipschitz extension constants for maps into C(K) from a given metric space M, extending recent results of Lancien and Randrianantoanina. They showed that a finite-dimensional normed space which is polyhedral has the isometric extension property for C(K)-spaces; here we show that the same result holds for spaces with Gateaux smooth norm or of dimension two; a three-dimensional counterexample is also given. We also show that X is polyhedral if and only if every subset E of X has the universal isometric extension property for C(K)-spaces. We also answer a question of Naor on the extension of Hölder continuous maps.  相似文献

The main theorem of this article is a characterization of non compact simply connected complete Kobayashi hyperbolic complex manifold of dimension n≽ 2 with real n 2-dimensional holomorphic automorphism group. Together with the earlier work [11, 12] and [13] of Isaev and Krantz, this yields a complete classification of the simply-connected, complete Kobayashi hyperbolic manifolds with dim Aut (M) ≽ (dim M)2.  相似文献

Erdös et al and Gerencsér et al had shown that in any 2-edge-coloring of K 3n-1, there is a n-matching containing edges with the same color(we call such matching monochromatic matching). In this paper we show that for any 2-edge-coloring of K 3n-1 there exists a monochromatic subgraph H of K 3n-1 which contains exponentially many monochromatic n-matchings.  相似文献

For a harmonic map f from a Riemann surface into a complex Grassmann manifold, Chern and Wolfson [4] constructed new harmonic maps ?f\partial\!f and [`(?)]f\bar{\partial}\!f through the fundamental collineations ?\partial and [`(?)]\bar{\partial} respectively. In this paper, we study the linearly full conformal minimal immersions from S 2 into complex Grassmannians G(2,n), according to the relationships between the images of ?f\partial\!f and [`(?)]f\bar{\partial}\!f. We obtain various pinching theorems and existence theorems about the Gaussian curvature, K?hler angle associated to the given minimal immersions, and characterize some immersions under special conditions. Some examples are given to show that the hypotheses in our theorems are reasonable.  相似文献

Let A be an integral domain, \(S\subseteq A\) be a multiplicative set and M a w-module as an A-module. In this paper we investigate S-SM-modules. We give an S-version of the result of Wang and McCasland (Commun Algebra 25:1285–1306, 1997) in the case where S is countable. We prove that M is an S-SM-module if and only if every increasing sequence of w-submodules of M is S-stationary if and only if every increasing sequence of S-w-finite w-submodules of M is S-stationary if and only if every increasing sequence of w-finite type submodules of M is S-stationary.  相似文献
