It is proven that a class of the generalized Riemann problem for quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with the uniform damping term admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u=u(t,x) containing only n shock waves with small amplitude on t?0 and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of the similarity solution of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem. As an application of our result, we prove the existence of global shock solutions, piecewise continuous and piecewise smooth solution with shock discontinuities, of the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory with a single jump initial data. We also give an example to show that the uniform damping mechanism is not strong enough to prevent the formation of shock waves.  相似文献

We prove that the Riemann solutions are stable for the chromatography system under the local small perturbations of the Riemann initial data. The proof is based on the detailed analysis of the wave interactions by applying the method of characteristic analysis. It is noteworthy that both the propagation directions of the shock wave S and rarefaction wave R are unchanged when they interact with the contact discontinuity J. Moreover, the global structures and large time asymptotic behaviors of the perturbed Riemann solutions are constructed and analyzed case by case.  相似文献

In this paper, we apply Adomian decomposition method (ADM) to develop a fast and accurate algorithm for systems of conservation laws of mixed hyperbolic elliptic type. The solutions of our model equations are calculated in the form of convergent power series with easily computable components. The results obtained are compared with our Modification of Adomian decomposition method (MADM) Az-Zo’bi and Al-Khaled (2010) [1]. The study outlines the significant features of the two methods. With application to van der Waals system, we obtain the stability of the approximate solutions graphically when the system changes type with more efficiency of the MADM.  相似文献

This paper considers the two‐dimensional Riemann problem for a system of conservation laws that models the polymer flooding in an oil reservoir. The initial data are two different constant states separated by a smooth curve. By virtue of a nonlinear coordinate transformation, this problem is converted into another simple one. We then analyze rigorously the expressions of elementary waves. Based on these preparations, we obtain respectively four kinds of non‐selfsimilar global solutions and their corresponding criteria. It is shown that the intermediate state between two elementary waves is no longer a constant state and that the expression of the rarefaction wave is obtained by constructing an inverse function. These are distinctive features of the non‐selfsimilar global solutions. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study a class of weak solutions to hyperbolic systems of conservation (balance) laws in one space dimension, called stratified solutions. These solutions are bounded and ``regular' in the direction of a linearly degenerate characteristic field of the system, but not in other directions. In particular, they are not required to have finite total variation. We prove some results of local existence and uniqueness.

It is proved that for scalar conservation laws, if the flux function is strictly convex, and if the entropy solution is piecewise smooth with finitely many discontinuities (which includes initial central rarefaction waves, initial shocks, possible spontaneous formation of shocks in a future time and interactions of all these patterns), then the error of viscosity solution to the inviscid solution is bounded by in the -norm, which is an improvement of the upper bound. If neither central rarefaction waves nor spontaneous shocks occur, the error bound is improved to .

This paper concerns shock reflection for a system of hyperbolic balance laws in one space dimension. It is shown that the generalized nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem for a system of hyperbolic balance laws with nonlinear boundary conditions in the half space admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u=u(t,x) containing only shocks with small amplitude and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of self-similar solution of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem, if each characteristic field with positive velocity is genuinely nonlinear and the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem has only shocks but no centered rarefaction waves and contact discontinuities. This result is also applied to shock reflection for the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory.  相似文献

Recently, there has been some interest on the stability of waves where the functions involved grow or decay at an algebraic rate m|x|. In this paper we define the so-called algebraic dichotomy that may aid in treating such problems. We discuss the basic properties of the algebraic dichotomy, methods of detecting it, and calculating the power of the weight function. We present several examples: (1) The Bessel equation. (2) The n-degree Fisher type equation. (3) Hyperbolic conservation laws in similarity coordinates. (4) A system of conservation laws with a Dafermos type viscous regularization. We show that the linearized system generates an analytic semigroup in the space of algebraic decay functions. This example motivates our work on algebraic dichotomies.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the stability of a single transonic shock wave solution to the hyperbolic conservation laws with a resonant moving source. Compared with the previous results [W.-C. Lien, Hyperbolic conservation laws with a moving source, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 52 (9) (1999) 1075-1098; T.P. Liu, Nonlinear stability and instability of transonic flows through a nozzle, Comm. Math. Phys. 83 (2) (1982) 243-260] on this stability problem, in this paper, the transonic ith shock is assumed to be relatively strong and stable in the sense of Majda. Then the framework of [M. Lewicka, L1 stability of patterns of non-interacting large shock waves, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 49 (4) (2000) 1515-1537; M. Lewicka, Stability conditions for patterns of noninteracting large shock waves, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 32 (5) (2001) 1094-1116 (electronic)] can be applied. A new criterion is obtained to test whether such a shock is time asymptotically stable or not. And by constructing the Liu-Yang functional, one can prove the L1 stability of the shock under the stability condition. This is an extension of the result [S.-Y. Ha, T. Yang, L1 stability for systems of hyperbolic conservation laws with a resonant moving source, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 34 (5) (2003) 1226-1251 (electronic); W.-C. Lien, Hyperbolic conservation laws with a moving source, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 52 (9) (1999) 1075-1098] to a more general case.  相似文献

For hyperbolic systems of balance laws with source manifesting relaxation, it is shown that the Kawashima condition, which yields global classical solutions with smooth initial values near equilibrium, is also instrumental in inducing the existence of global admissible BV solutions, accommodating shocks.  相似文献

We solve the Riemann problem for a class of resonant hyperbolic systems of balance laws. The systems are not strictly hyperbolic and the solutions take their values in a neighborhood of a state where two characteristic speeds coincide. Our construction generalizes the ones given earlier by Isaacson and Temple for scalar equations and for conservative systems. The class of systems under consideration here includes, in particular, a model from continuum physics that describes the evolution of a fluid flow in a nozzle with discontinuous cross-section.

In this paper, we investigate the large-time behavior of solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for n × n hyperbolic system of conservation laws with artificial viscosity in the half line (0, ∞). We first show that a boundary layer exists if the corresponding hyperbolic part contains at least one characteristic field with negative propagation speed. We further show that such boundary layer is nonlinearly stable under small initial perturbation. The proofs are given by an elementary energy method.  相似文献

We give uniform BV estimates and -stability of Lax-Friedrichs' scheme for a class of systems of strictly hyperbolic conservation laws whose integral curves of the eigenvector fields are straight lines, i.e., Temple class, under the assumption of small total variation. This implies that the approximate solutions generated via the Lax-Friedrichs' scheme converge to the solution given by the method of vanishing viscosity or the Godunov scheme, and then the Glimm scheme or the wave front tracking method.

This work is a continuation of our previous work. In the present paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of global piecewise C1 solutions with shock waves to the generalized Riemann problem for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linear damping in the presence of a boundary. It is shown that the generalized Riemann problem for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linear damping with nonlinear boundary conditions in the half space {(t, x) | t ≥ 0, x ≥ 0} admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u = u (t, x) containing only shock waves with small amplitude and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of a self‐similar solution u = U (x /t) of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem, if each characteristic field with positive velocity is genuinely nonlinear and the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem has only shock waves but no rarefaction waves and contact discontinuities. This result is also applied to shock reflection for the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We consider a class of multidimensional conservation laws with vanishing nonlinear diffusion and dispersion terms. Under a condition on the relative size of the diffusion and dispersion coefficients, we show that the approximate solutions converge in a strong topology to the entropy solution of a scalar conservation law. Our proof is based on methodology developed in [S. Hwang, A.E. Tzavaras, Kinetic decomposition of approximate solutions to conservation laws: Applications to relaxation and diffusion-dispersion approximations, Comm. Partial Differential Equations 27 (2002) 1229-1254] which uses the averaging lemma.  相似文献

A two-dimensional hyperbolic system of nonlinear conservation laws is considered for any piecewise constant initial data having two discontinuity rays with the origin as vertex. One kind of new waves, which is labeled the Dirac-contact wave, appears in the solution. The entropy conditions for the Dirac-contact waves are given. The solutions on the Dirac-contact waves can be viewed as the bounded linear functionals onC 0 (R 2 ×R +). We prove regularity estimates for entropy solutions to scalar conservation laws with a force. Based on the kinetic form of a scalar conservation law, a new decomposition of entropy solutions is introduced, by means of a decomposition in the velocity variable, adapted to the non-degeneracy properties of the flux function. This allows a finer control of the degeneracy behavior of the flux. In addition, this decomposition allows to make use of the fact that the entropy dissipation measure has locally finite singular moments. Based on these observations, improved regularity estimates for entropy solutions to (forced) scalar conservation laws are obtained.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions for a system of viscous conservation laws with discontinuous initial data. We discuss mainly the case where the system without the viscosity term is of hyperbolic elliptic mixed type. This problem is related to a phase transition problem. We study the initial value problem and show the decay rates of solutions to piecewise constant states where two phases coexist. The modification necessary for the hyperbolic case is also discussed.  相似文献

For strictly hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with Lipschitz continuous flux-functions we generalize Lax's genuine nonlinearity condition and shock admissibility inequalities and we solve the Riemann problem when the left- and right-hand initial data are sufficiently close. Our approach is based on the concept of multivalued representatives ofL functions and a generalized calculus for Lipschitz continuous mappings. Several interesting features arising with Lipschitz continuous flux-functions come to light from our analysis.Dedicated to Constantine Dafermos on his 60th birthday  相似文献
