On the spectra of a Cantor measure 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We analyze all orthonormal bases of exponentials on the Cantor set defined by Jorgensen and Pedersen in J. Anal. Math. 75 (1998) 185-228. A complete characterization for all maximal sets of orthogonal exponentials is obtained by establishing a one-to-one correspondence with the spectral labelings of the infinite binary tree. With the help of this characterization we obtain a sufficient condition for a spectral labeling to generate a spectrum (an orthonormal basis). This result not only provides us an easy and efficient way to construct various of new spectra for the Cantor measure but also extends many previous results in the literature. In fact, most known examples of orthonormal bases of exponentials correspond to spectral labelings satisfying this sufficient condition. We also obtain two new conditions for a labeling tree to generate a spectrum when other digits (digits not necessarily in {0,1,2,3}) are used in the base 4 expansion of integers and when bad branches are allowed in the spectral labeling. These new conditions yield new examples of spectra and in particular lead to a surprizing example which shows that a maximal set of orthogonal exponentials is not necessarily an orthonormal basis. 相似文献

The present paper is devoted to the study of spectral properties of random Schrödinger operators. Using a finite section method for Toeplitz matrices, we prove a Wegner estimate for some alloy type models where the single site potential is allowed to change sign. The results apply to the corresponding discrete model, too. In certain disorder regimes we are able to prove the Lipschitz continuity of the integrated density of states and/or localization near spectral edges. 相似文献

In this paper we consider a family of random Cantor sets on the line. We give some sufficient conditions when the Lebesgue measure of the arithmetic difference is positive. Combining this with the main result of a recent joint paper of the second author with M. Dekking we construct random Cantor sets F1, F2 such that the arithmetic difference set F2 − F1 does not contain any intervals but ?eb(F2 − F1)> 0 almost surely, conditioned on non-extinction. 相似文献

We study the semiclassical measure for the solution of the high-frequency Helmholtz equation in Rn with non-constant absorption index and a source term concentrated on a bounded submanifold of Rn. The potential is not assumed to be non-trapping, but trapped trajectories have to go through the region where the absorption index is positive. In an earlier publication a linear operator THar was defined as an unusual self-adjoint extension generated by each linear elliptic partial differential expression, satisfying suitable conditions on a bounded region Ω of some Euclidean space. In this present work the authors define an extensive class of THar-like self-adjoint operators on the Hilbert function space L2(Ω); but here for brevity we restrict the development to the classical Laplacian differential expression, with Ω now the planar unit disk. It is demonstrated that there exists a non-denumerable set of such THar-like operators (each a self-adjoint extension generated by the Laplacian), each of which has a domain in L2(Ω) that does not lie within the usual Sobolev Hilbert function space W2(Ω). These THar-like operators cannot be specified by conventional differential boundary conditions on the boundary of ∂Ω, and may have non-empty essential spectra. 相似文献

In this paper we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the nonlinear Cahn–Hilliard equation with a logarithmic free energy and similar singular free energies. We prove an existence and uniqueness result with the help of monotone operator methods, which differs from the known proofs based on approximation by smooth potentials. Moreover, we apply the Lojasiewicz–Simon inequality to show that each solution converges to a steady state as time tends to infinity. 相似文献

This implies quantitative upper and lower bounds for the operator norms of the corresponding resolvent differences. The lack of a general maximum principle for biharmonic equations suggests to study under which boundary conditions the positivity preserving property holds. We show that this property holds in general domains for suitable linear combinations of Dirichlet and Navier boundary conditions. The spectrum of this operator exhibits some unexpected features: radial data may generate nonradial solutions. These boundary conditions are also of some interest in semilinear equations, since they enable us to give explicit radial singular solutions to fourth order Gelfand-type problems. 相似文献

We study convolution operators on weighted Lebesgue spaces and obtain weight characterisations for boundedness of these operators
with certain kernels. Our main result is Theorem 3 which enables us to obtain results for certain kernel functions supported
on bounded intervals; in particular we get a direct proof of the known characterisations for Steklov operators in Section
3 by using the weighted Hardy inequality. Our methods also enable us to obtain new results for other kernel functions in Section
4. In Section 5 we demonstrate that these convolution operators are related to operators arising from the Weiss Conjecture
(for scalar-valued observation functionals) in linear systems theory, so that results on convolution operators provide elementary examples of nearly bounded semigroups
not satisfying the Weiss Conjecture. Also we apply results on the Weiss Conjecture for contraction semigroups to obtain boundedness
