We prove that if is of bounded variation, then the uncentered maximal function is absolutely continuous, and its derivative satisfies the sharp inequality . This allows us to obtain, under less regularity, versions of classical inequalities involving derivatives.

In this paper, we derive a new monotonicity formula for the plurisubharmonic functions/positive (1,1) currents on complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative bisectional curvature. As applications we derive the sharp estimates for the dimension of the spaces of holomorphic functions (sections) with polynomial growth, which, in particular, partially solve a conjecture of Yau.
The methods used in this paper, without the assumption of maximum volume of growth, as observed recently by Chen, Fu, Yin, and Zhu, provide a complete solution to Yau's conjecture.

We consider the generalized Fourier transform treated as an operator on the dual of an arbitrary locally convex space. We give a definition of this operator and establish its basic properties. Special attention is paid to cases in which the range of the generalized Fourier transform coincides with a weighted space of entire functions. The Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund inequality and the Bernstein inequality are established on ∮2m(T,R)∩L2(R) which is the space of polynomial splines with irregularly distributed nodes T={tj}j∈Z, where {tj}j∈Z is a real sequence such that {eitξ}j∈Z constitutes a Riesz basis for L2([-π,π]). We have studied the asymptotics of two special two-matrix hypergeometric functions. The validity of the asymptotic expressions for these functions is seen in several selected numerical comparisons between the exact and asymptotic results. A special class of quadratic pseudo-boolean functions called “half-products” (HP) has recently been introduced. It has been shown that HP minimization, while NP-hard, admits a fully polynomial time approximation scheme (FPTAS). In this note, we provide a more efficient FPTAS. We further show how an FPTAS can also be derived for the general case where the HP function is augmented by a problem-dependent constant and can justifiably be assumed to be nonnegative. This leads to an FPTAS for certain partitioning type problems, including many from the field of scheduling. 相似文献

In this paper we discuss Sobolev bounds on functions that vanish at scattered points in a bounded, Lipschitz domain that satisfies a uniform interior cone condition. The Sobolev spaces involved may have fractional as well as integer order. We then apply these results to obtain estimates for continuous and discrete least squares surface fits via radial basis functions (RBFs). These estimates include situations in which the target function does not belong to the native space of the RBF.

Functions with poles occur in many branches of applied mathematics which involve resonance phenomena. Such functions are challenging to interpolate, in particular in higher dimensions. In this paper we develop a technique for interpolation with quotients of two radial basis function (RBF) expansions to approximate such functions as an alternative to rational approximation. Since the quotient is not uniquely determined we introduce an additional constraint, the sum of the RBF-norms of the numerator and denominator squared should be minimal subjected to a norm condition on the function values. The method was designed for antenna design applications and we show by examples that the scattering matrix for a patch antenna as a function of some design parameters can be approximated accurately with the new method. In many cases, e.g. in antenna optimization, the function evaluations are time consuming, and therefore it is important to reduce the number of evaluations but still obtain a good approximation. A sensitivity analysis of the new interpolation technique is carried out and it gives indications how efficient adaptation methods could be devised. A family of such methods are evaluated on antenna data and the results show that much performance can be gained by choosing the right method. 相似文献

We prove the existence of a dense linear manifold M of entire functions all of whose non-zero members are Birkhoff-universal, such that each function in M has overall growth faster than ψ and, in addition, exp(α|z|)f(z)→0 (z→∞, z∈A) for all α<1/2 and f∈M. With slightly more restrictive conditions on A, we get that the last property also holds for the action Tf of certain holomorphic operators T. There are many applications in economics of nonlinear programming, usually under convexity assumptions. Some nonconvex models have also been discussed extensively in order to relax the restrictive assumption of convexity. The applicability can be extended considerably by further generalization to invexity and of maximum to quasimax. Some qualitatively different effects may occur with nonconvex models, such as nonunique optima at different objective levels and jumps in the consumption function, which have economic significance.
