A free boundary value problem is introduced to approximate the original Thomas–Fermi equation. The unknown truncated free boundary is determined iteratively. We transform the free boundary value problem to a nonlinear boundary value problem defined on [0,1]. We present an adaptive algorithm to solve the problem by means of the moving mesh finite element method. Comparison of our numerical results with those obtained by other approaches shows high accuracy of our method.  相似文献

We consider a transport boundary value problem for an isotropic elastic medium bounded by a cylindrical surface of arbitrary cross-section and subjected to supersonic transport loads. We pose the corresponding hyperbolic boundary value problem and prove the uniqueness of the solution with regard to shock waves. To solve the problem, we use the method of generalized functions. In the space of generalized functions, we obtain the solution, perform its regularization, and construct a dynamic analog of the Somigliana formula and singular boundary equations solving the boundary value problem.  相似文献

We consider a boundary value problem for the Laplace operator in a model domain periodically perforated along the boundary. We assume that the homogeneous Neumann condition is posed on the exterior boundary and the homogeneous Dirichlet condition is posed on the boundary of the cavities. In this paper we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to multipoint boundary value problems for nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We consider the case where the solution space of the associated linear homogeneous boundary value problem is less than 2. When this solution space is trivial, we establish existence results via the Schauder Fixed Point Theorem. In the resonance case, we use a projection scheme to provide criteria for the solvability of our nonlinear boundary value problem. We accomplish this by analyzing a link between the behavior of the nonlinearity and the solution set of the associated linear homogeneous boundary value problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the stability of supersonic contact discontinuity for the two-dimensional steady compressible Euler flows in a finitely long nozzle of varying cross-sections. We formulate the problem as an initial–boundary value problem with the contact discontinuity as a free boundary. To deal with the free boundary value problem, we employ the Lagrangian transformation to straighten the contact discontinuity and then the free boundary value problem becomes a fixed boundary value problem. We develop an iteration scheme and establish some novel estimates of solutions for the first order of hyperbolic equations on a cornered domain. Finally, by using the inverse Lagrangian transformation and under the assumption that the incoming flows and the nozzle walls are smooth perturbations of the background state, we prove that the original free boundary problem admits a unique weak solution which is a small perturbation of the background state and the solution consists of two smooth supersonic flows separated by a smooth contact discontinuity.  相似文献

We consider the flow of a strictly convex hypersurface driven by the Gauß curvature. For the Neumann boundary value problem and for the second boundary value problem we show that such a flow exists for all times and converges eventually to a solution of the prescribed Gauß curvature equation. We study the boundary value problem for the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation on the half-plane y > 0 with a homogeneous condition along the boundary. In a Hilbert space H, we study the Fredholm property of a boundary value problem for a fourth-order differential-operator equation of elliptic type with unbounded operators in the boundary conditions. We find sufficient conditions on the operators in the boundary conditions for the problem to be Fredholm. We give applications of the abstract results to boundary value problems for fourth-order elliptic partial differential equations in nonsmooth domains.  相似文献

We study the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem for the steady Magnetohydrodynamic equations in a two-dimensional bounded domain with multiply connected boundary. We prove that this problem has an admissible solution in an admissible domain if the boundary value is admissible. We consider a boundary value problem generated by the Sturm-Liouville equation on a finite interval. Both the equation and the boundary conditions depend quadratically on the spectral parameter. This boundary value problem occurs in the theory of small vibrations of a damped string. The inverse problem, i.e., the problem of recovering the equation and the boundary conditions from the given spectrum, is solved.  相似文献

We establish upper bounds for the energy of critical levels of the functional associated to a perturbed superlinear elliptic boundary value problem. We show that the perturbed problem satisfies the estimates obtained by Bahri and Lions (1988) for the symmetric problem. We use these estimates to prove the existence of nonradial solutions to a radial elliptic boundary value problem. Our results fill a gap in an earlier paper by Aduén and Castro.

A boundary value method for solving a class of nonlinear singularly perturbed two point boundary value problems with a boundary layer at one end is proposed. Using singular perturbation analysis the method consists of solving two problems; namely, a reduced problem and a boundary layer correction problem. We use Pade’ approximation to obtain the solution of the latter problem and to satisfy the condition at infinity. Numerical examples will be given to illustrate the method.  相似文献

We present two iterative methods for solving the Falkner-Skan equation based on the quasilinearization method. We formulate the original problem as a new free boundary value problem. The truncated boundary depending on a small parameter is an unknown free boundary and has to be determined as part of solution. Using a change of variables, the free boundary value problem is transformed to a problem defined on [0, 1]. We apply the quasilinearization method to solve the resulting nonlinear problem. Then we propose two different iterative algorithms by means of a cubic spline solver. Numerical results for various instances are compared with those reported previously in the literature. The comparisons show the accuracy, robustness and efficiency of the presented methodology.  相似文献

A limit (homogenized) problem is obtained. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the initial boundary value problem for a stochastic partial differential equation in a sequence of perforated domains. We prove that the sequence of solutions of the problem converges in appropriate topologies to the solution of a limit stochastic initial boundary value problem of the same type as the original problem, but containing an additional term expressed in terms of some characteristics of the perforated domain.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is defining a new boundary value problem for Yang-Mills connections, which is the most general in the context of Neumann-type problems for forms. We achieve this by reflecting the base manifold across the boundary, and lifting this action non-trivially to the bundle. This way we obtain a twisted boundary value problem in which the boundary conditions are mixed, of Dirichlet type on some of the Lie-algebra components of the connection A, of Neumann type on others. This problem arises naturally and it can be viewed in the context of generalizing non-linear Hodge theory for connections. We prove a good gauge theorem for this problem.
