In the paper, we consider three quadratic optimization problems which are frequently applied in portfolio theory, i.e., the Markowitz mean–variance problem as well as the problems based on the mean–variance utility function and the quadratic utility. Conditions are derived under which the solutions of these three optimization procedures coincide and are lying on the efficient frontier, the set of mean–variance optimal portfolios. It is shown that the solutions of the Markowitz optimization problem and the quadratic utility problem are not always mean–variance efficient.  相似文献

Let be the space of quadratic rational maps , modulo the action by conjugation of the group of Möbius transformations. In this paper a compactification of is defined, as a modification of Milnor's , by choosing representatives of a conjugacy class such that the measure of maximal entropy of has conformal barycenter at the origin in and taking the closure in the space of probability measures. It is shown that is the smallest compactification of such that all iterate maps extend continuously to , where is the natural compactification of coming from geometric invariant theory.

This paper analyzes a family of parameterized quadratic eigenvalue problems from acoustics in the framework of homotopic deviation theory. Our specific application is the acoustic wave equation (in 1D and 2D) where the boundary conditions are partly pressure release (homogeneous Dirichlet) and partly impedance, with a complex impedance parameter ζ. The admittance t = 1/ζ is the classical homotopy parameter. In particular, we study the spectrum when t → ∞. We show that in the limit part of the eigenvalues remain bounded and converge to the so‐called kernel points. We also show that there exist the so‐called critical points that correspond to frequencies for which no finite value of the admittance can cause a resonance. Finally, the physical interpretation that the impedance condition is transformed into a pressure release condition when |t| → ∞ enables us to give the kernel points in closed form as eigenvalues of the discrete Dirichlet problem. We analyse some identifiers which can univocally identify hyperbolic components and Misiurewicz points of one-dimensional quadratic maps. After seeing the equivalence among the different identifiers and how to go from one to another, we show which are the best for some specific tasks. Likewise, we present the analytic expressions, some of them shown for the first time in this paper, to calculate these identifiers. Some experimental considerations are taken into account.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to show that the general theory of quadratic forms developed earlier by the author is applicable to singular variational problems as well as to nonsingular ones. The problem of minimizing a quadratic objective function subject to one or two quadratic constraints is known to have a hidden convexity property, even when the quadratic forms are indefinite. The equivalent convex problem is a semidefinite one, and the equivalence is based on the celebrated S-lemma. In this paper, we show that when the quadratic forms are simultaneously diagonalizable (SD), it is possible to derive an equivalent convex problem, which is a conic quadratic (CQ) one, and as such is significantly more tractable than a semidefinite problem. The SD condition holds for free for many problems arising in applications, in particular, when deriving robust counterparts of quadratic, or conic quadratic, constraints affected by implementation error. The proof of the hidden CQ property is constructive and does not rely on the S-lemma. This fact may be significant in discovering hidden convexity in some nonquadratic problems.  相似文献

A standard quadratic optimization problems (StQP) asks for the minimal value of a quadratic form over the standard simplex. StQPs form a central NP-hard class in quadratic optimization and have numerous practical applications. In this note we study the case of a separable objective function and propose an algorithm of worst-case complexity O(nlogn){\mathcal{O}(n\log n)} .
