The possibility of the highly sensitive sorption-spectrometric determination of Th(IV) and U(VI) in the presence of each other on the solid phase of fibrous anion-exchange materials with Arsenazo M and Arsenazo III was examined. Polyacrylonitrile fiber filled with an exchanger AN-31, ANKB-50, or EDE-10p was used as the solid phase. It was demonstrated that the studied systems allow the selective determination of thorium in the presence of one-to twofold amounts of uranium. On PANV-EDE-10p with immobilized Arsenazo III, the detection limit of thorium in 2–10 M HCl is 0.002 μg/mL, and in 10 M HCl the presence of up to twofold amounts of uranium is permissible. A high sensitivity of the determination of uranium in 2–7 M HCl of 0.005 μg/mL, which has not been reported before, was attained. The time of the analysis of five or six samples is no longer than 20 min.

Abstract

A spectrometric study of the reaction between Pd(II), Fe(III) and Pt(IV) ions, and Mandelazo I was carried out. The optimum conditions favouring the formation of the complexes are extensively investigated. The stoichiometry of the complexes formed in solution (1:2, 1:1, 1:1), their apparent stability constants (5.45 × 109, 2.39 × 106, 4.12 × 105) and the ranges for obedience to beer's law (0.2 – 6.4, 0.25 – 7.0, 1.5 – 42.0 μg/mL) are reported for Pd(II), Fe(III) and Pt(IV), respectively. The effect of some metal ions including Cu(II), Zn(II), Mn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Be(II), Al(III), Th(IV) and U(VI), on the maximum absorbance of the formed complexes was also investigated.

The possibility of the determination of La(III) in the presence of U(VI) and Th(IV), a solid phase with the reagent Arsenazo M, was examined. It was demonstrated that the determination of lanthanum with Arsenazo M in 0.05 M HCl in the presence of 3-, 2-, 1-, and 10-fold amounts of U(VI), Th(IV), Zr(IV), and Ti(IV) is possible after sorption on polyacrylonitrile fiber filled an ion exchanger with iminodiacetate groups (PANV-ANKB-50). For sorption under the optimum conditions at pH 5, the detection limit of lanthanum is 0.01 μg/mL. The method for the determination of lanthanum was verified by the added-found method in the analysis of tap water. To decrease the matrix effect, it is recommended to perform sorption in the analysis of water at pH 2.5. In this case, the detection limit of La(III) is 0.02 μg/mL, RSD < 20%. The time of the analysis of 5 or 6 samples is no longer than 20 min.

Summary Separation of bismuth(III) from iron(III), molybdenum(VI), vanadium(V), chromium(VI), titanium(IV), antimony(III), lead(II), beryllium(II), uranium(VI), hafnium(IV), indium(III) and zirconium (IV) is achieved by solvent extraction with high molecular weight amines from sodium succinate solution adjusted to suitable pH. Bismuth(III) is stripped from the organic phase and determined spectrophotometrically. The method is shown to be applicable to bismuth alloys.

Summary A rapid and accurate method is described for the potentiometric determination of uranium(IV) with permanganate at room temperature using trace amounts of ortho-phosphoric acid as a catalyst. The procedure has been extended for the differential potentiometric determination of mixtures with vanadium, manganese or cerium. The methods are easy, non-time consuming and free from interference by a large number of foreign ions. Conditions are also developed for the differential photometric determination of uranium and iron in mixtures.Based on these procedures, a differential titrimetric procedure has been developed for determination of iron(III), vanadium(V), chromium(VI) and manganese(VII) [or cerium(IV)] in a single solution at room temperature. This procedure has also been tested on Bureau of Standard samples.

Summary The compound disodium-1,8-dihydroxy-naphthalene-3,6-disulphonate (sodium salt of chromotropic acid) is employed as a colorimetric reagent for titanium. It is also known to produce coloured complexes with chromium(VI), vanadium and uranium. In the present paper the formation of colour with forty metallic ions has been studied qualitatively, in neutral as well as in alkaline and acidic media. It has been found that the reagent yields coloured complexes with mercury(I), tin(IV), platinum(IV), gold(III), tellurium(VI), molybdenum(VI), iron(III), aluminium(III), chromium(III), and uranyl(II) besides those recorded above. The colour reactions are particularly sensitive to uranyl(II), iron(III), mercury(I), tin(IV), gold(III) und molybdenum(VI).

Pyridine-2-aldoiumc (I) has been found to be a sensitive reagent for the gravimetric determination of palladium(II). From chloride medium, precipitation is complete at pH 3.0-11.0, and in solution containing 1NHNO(3) to pH6.0. The compositions of the precipitates (dried at 130 degrees ) correspond to PdL(2), and PdL(2). HNO(3) (HL representing the reagent) respectively. Pd(II) can be estimated gravimetncally in presence of acetate, oxalate, tartrate, phosphate, fluoride borate, perchlorate, Cu(II), Cd, Co(II), Fe(II), Ni, Zn, Pb, Bi, Sb(III), Pt(IV), Ir(IV), Ru(III), Rh(III); Os(IV) in quantities more than twice that of Pd(II), and Ag(I), Au(III) and Fe(II) even m traces cause serious interference. The yellow uranium(VI) complex with (I) is precipitated quantitatively over the pH range 3.5-10.5 and, after washing and drying corresponds to the composition (c(6)h(5)n(2)o)(2)uo(2), The uranium(VI) complex with 6-methylpyridine-2-aldoxime (II) is precipitated quantitatively over the pH range 3.0-10.5, and after washing and drying at 120-130 degrees corresponds to UO(2),(C(7),H(7),N(2)O)(2). Both (I) and (II) are suitable for the estimation of 1-50 mg of uranium(VI) in the presence of up to 10-fold quantities ofTh(IV), La(III) and Ce(III) even when present together. Ce(IV) in quantities more than three times that of U must be reduced to Ce(III). Tartrate, citrate, phosphate, Ti(IV) and Zr interfere, but acetate, oxalate, and borate do not.

Direct and indirect potentiometric, bipotentiometric and biamperometric titrations with a standard iron(II) solution are described for some inorganic compounds in alkaline media containing hexitols (mannitol, dulcitol and sorbitol). The optimal conditions for titrations based on the Cr(VI) → Cr(III), Mn(IV) → Mn(III) → Mn(II), V(V) → V(IV), Co(III) → Co(II) and U(VI) → U(IV) systems are discussed. Of the hexitols studied, sorbitol has the greatest effect on the value of the redox potential of the Fe(III)/Fe(II) system; the Ef° value is about —1.10 V vs. SCE.

Summary Anion-exchange behaviour of chromium (III) and molybdenum (VI) was studied in malonate media. They form anionic complexes with malonic acid at pH 5.6. Various eluants, such as mineral acids and their salts were tested and a selectivity scale evolved. Cr and Mo were separated from Tl(I), alkali and alkaline earth elements by selective sorption and from Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) by selective washing with water. They were separated from many other elements by selective elution. The sequential separation of Fe(III) V(IV), Cr(III), Mo(VI) and U(VI) was significant.

Abstract

A spectromeric study of the reaction of the Zr(IV) ions with Mandelazo I was carried out. Absorption spectra revealed that the maximum absorption of the zirconium compound appears at a wavelength (316 nm) different from the maxima of the reagent (253 and 390 nm). Beer-Lambert law is followed for zirconium concentrations of the order of 8.8x 10?5 M (i.e. 8 μg Zr (IV)/mL). Possible interferences of ions such as Be(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Al(III), Th(IV), U(VI), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II) and Ni(II) were investigated in connection with some masking agents such as SO4 2- and C2O4 2-. Also, the solid state Zr(IV)-Mandelazo I compound was prepared and characterized by nitrogen and thermogravimetric analyses.

Vanadium(III) obtained by dithionite reduction of vanadium(V) can be extracted as its ferron complex with tribenzylamine in chloroform from 0.05 M sulphuric acid. Vanadium (0–5 μg ml-1) is determined spectrophotometrically at 430 nm with a sensitivity of 0.0028 μg V cm-2. Al(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Fe(II, III), Hg(II), Si(IV), Be(II), Mg(II), Ca(II), Sr(II), Ba(II), Cr(VI, III), W(VI), Zn(II), U(VI), Mn(II). Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) and Th(IV) do not interfere; only Mo(VI), Ti(IV), Zr(IV). Bi(V) and Sn(II) interfere. A single determination takes only 7 min. The extracted complex is VIII (R-3H.TBA)3 where R = C9H4O4NSI. The method is satisfactory for the determination of vanadium in steels, alum and other samples without preliminary separations.

The coordination of the U(IV) and U(VI) ions as a function of the chloride concentration in aqueous solution has been studied by U L(III)-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy. The oxidation state of uranium was changed in situ using a gastight spectroelectrochemical cell, specifically designed for the safe use with radioactive solutions. For U(VI) we observed the complexes UO2(H2O)5(2+), UO2(H2O)4Cl+, UO2(H2O)3Cl2(0), and UO2(H2O)2Cl3- with [Cl-] increasing from 0 to 9 M, and for U(IV) we observed the complexes U(H2O)9(4+), U(H2O)8Cl3+, U(H2O)(6-7)Cl2(2+), and U(H2O)5Cl3+. The distances in the U(VI) coordination sphere are U-Oax = 1.76+/-0.02 A, Oeq = 2.41 +/- 0.02 A, and U-Cl = 2.71 +/- 0.02 A; the distances in the U(IV) coordination sphere are U-O = 2.41 +/- 0.02 A and U-Cl = 2.71 +/- 0.02 A.  相似文献

A kinetic method for simultaneous determination of multielements is proposed, and a procedure for simultaneous determination of uranium(VI) and iron(II) is established based on their inductive effect on the chromium(VI)-iodide redox reaction in weak acidic medium. The reaction was monitored with the stopped-flow spectrophotometric technique by using I 3 -starch complex as indicator. The calibration graphs are linear for 0–3.6 g.cm–3 U(IV), and 0–2.5 g.cm–3 Fe(II), respectively. Most foreign ions, except for V(IV), Sb(III), do not interfere with the determination.

Abstract

A highly sensitive and selective spot test method has been developed for iron(III) and molybdenum(VI) with a limit of detection 0.01 μg per 0.02 ml and 0.001 μg per 0.02 ml for Fe(III) and Mo(VI) respectively on the beads of antimony(V) silicate cation exchanger. The method utilizes the adsorption ion-exchange properties of antimony(V) silicate and the complex forming ability of sodium diethyldithiocarbamate.

Summary A new colour reaction for the detection of cerram(IV) which can be carried out both in a test tube and on a spot plate has been described. The test solution is treated with methylene blue in nitric acid solution (11) to form a rose-red colour. This simple procedure has an advantage over the existing tests in that it is applicable in the presence of oxidising agents like chromium(VI), vanadium(V), nitrate, perchlorate and of coloured ions like copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), chromium(III), iron(III), vanadium(IV), uranium(VI).

Extraction of promethium(III), uranium(VI), plutonium(IV), americium(III), zirconium(IV), ruthenium(III), iron(III) and palladium(II) has been carried out with a mixture of octyl(phenyl)-N,N-diisobutylcarbamoylmethylphosphine oxide (CMPO) and tributyl phosphate (TBP) in dodecane. The effects of nitric acid, TBP and CMPO concentrations on the extraction of these metal ions have been studied. The nature of the species of the above metal ions extracted into the organic phase has been suggested.

The extraction behaviour of iron(III) and titanium(IV) from acidic chloride solutions has been investigated using 3-phenyl-4-benzoyl-5-isoxazolone (HPBI) in xylene as an extractant. The results demonstrate that these metal ions are extracted into xylene as Fe(PBI)(3) and TiO(PBI)(2). The equilibrium constants of the extracted complexes have been deduced by non-linear regression analysis by taking into account complexation of metal ion with inorganic ligands in the aqueous phase and all plausible complexes extracted into the organic phase. IR and proton NMR ((1)H NMR) spectra were used to further clarify the nature of complexes extracted into organic phase. The effect of the nature of the diluent on the extraction of iron(III) and titanium(IV) has been studied and correlated with dielectric constants. The extraction behaviour of titanium(IV) has also been compared with that of other metal ions, viz. magnesium(II), vanadium(V), chromium(VI), iron(III), manganese(II), zinc(II) and zirconium(IV), which are associated with the titanium in waste chloride liquors of the titanium-mineral-processing industry.

The analytical determination of Hg(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), As(III), Sb(III), Ti(IV) and U(VI) in the presence of Fe(III) and 1 M H2SO4 are investigated using the polarographic technique. The wave corresponding to the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) was found to be completely suppressed by the addition of 1% pyrogallol. Thus, different mixtures of these elements, viz. Hg(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), As(III) and Fe(III)-mixture (A), Cu(II), Cd(II), Sb(III), As(III) and Fe(III)-mixture (B), and Cu(II), Cd(II), Ti(IV), U(VI) and Fe(III)-mixture (C), were quantitatively determined using 1% pyrogallol and 1 M H2SO4 as supporting electrolyte. The i1/c results give excellent correlations in each case, as indicated from the results of leastsquares regression analysis.

The redox reaction between cobalt(II) and gold(III) chloride in the presence of 1.10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine was studied, and a titration of the cobalt(II) complex with a gold(III) chloride solution was developed. A 4-fold amount of 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine was necessary for rapid quantitative reaction; the permissible pH range was 1.5–5. The oxidation of the cobalt(II) complex proceeds rapidly at 40–50°C, and a direct potentiometric titration was possible. The following maximum errors were obtained: 3.3% for 0.2–1.0 mg Co, 2.0% for 1–5 mg Co, and 0.70% for 10–40 mg Co. The following ions did not interfere: Ni(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), Mn(II), Fe(II), Cr(III), Al(III), Th(IV), Se(IV), Ti(IV), U(VI), Mo(VI), SO2-4 and PO3-4. Even small quantities of silver(I), copper(II), palladium(II), mercury(II)and iron(III) interfered. The method was applied to the determination of high cobalt contents in high-temperature nickel-base alloys.
