A plasmon‐induced water splitting system that operates under irradiation by visible light was successfully developed; the system is based on the use of both sides of the same strontium titanate (SrTiO3) single‐crystal substrate. The water splitting system contains two solution chambers to separate hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2). To promote water splitting, a chemical bias was applied by regulating the pH values of the chambers. The quantity of H2 evolved from the surface of platinum, which was used as a reduction co‐catalyst, was twice the quantity of O2 evolved from an Au‐nanostructured surface. Thus, the stoichiometric evolution of H2 and O2 was clearly demonstrated. The hydrogen‐evolution action spectrum closely corresponds to the plasmon resonance spectrum, indicating that the plasmon‐induced charge separation at the Au/SrTiO3 interface promotes water oxidation and the subsequent reduction of a proton on the backside of the SrTiO3 substrate. The chemical bias is significantly reduced by plasmonic effects, which indicates the possibility of constructing an artificial photosynthesis system with low energy consumption.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic water splitting to produce hydrogen and oxygen is regarded as one of the most promising methods to generate clean and sustainable energy for replacing fossil fuels. However, the design and development of an efficient bifunctional catalyst for simultaneous generation of hydrogen and oxygen remains extremely challenging yet is critical for the practical implementation of water electrolysis. Here, we report a facile method to fabricate novel N‐doped carbon nanotube frameworks (NCNTFs) by the pyrolysis of a bimetallic metal organic framework (MIL‐88‐Fe/Co). The resultant electrocatalyst, Co3Fe7@NCNTFs, exhibits excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, achieving 10 mA/cm2 at a low overpotential of just 264 mV in 1 M KOH solution, and 197 mV for the hydrogen evolution reaction. The high electrocatalytic activity arises from the synergistic effect between the chemistry of the Co3Fe7 and the NCNTs coupled to the novel framework structure. The remarkable electrocatalytic performance of our bifunctional electrocatalyst provides a promising pathway to high‐performance overall water splitting and electrochemical energy devices.  相似文献

Developing highly efficient and low‐cost photocatalysts for overall water splitting has long been a pursuit for converting solar power into clean hydrogen energy. Herein, we demonstrate that a nonstoichiometric nickel–cobalt double hydroxide can achieve overall water splitting by itself upon solar light irradiation, avoiding the consumption of noble‐metal co‐catalysts. We employed an intensive laser to ablate a NiCo alloy target immersed in alkaline solution, and produced so‐called L‐NiCo nanosheets with a nonstoichiometric composition and O2?/Co3+ ions exposed on the surface. The nonstoichiometric composition broadens the band gap, while O2? and Co3+ ions boost hydrogen and oxygen evolution, respectively. As such, the photocatalyst achieves a H2 evolution rate of 1.7 μmol h?1 under AM 1.5G sunlight irradiation and an apparent quantum yield (AQE) of 1.38 % at 380 nm.  相似文献

Developing bifunctional catalysts for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions is a promising approach to the practical implementation of electrocatalytic water splitting. However, most of the reported bifunctional catalysts are only applicable to alkaline electrolyzer, although a few are effective in acidic or neutral media that appeals more to industrial applications. Here, a lithium‐intercalated iridium diselenide (Li‐IrSe2) is developed that outperformed other reported catalysts toward overall water splitting in both acidic and neutral environments. Li intercalation activated the inert pristine IrSe2 via bringing high porosities and abundant Se vacancies for efficient hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions. When Li‐IrSe2 was assembled into two‐electrode electrolyzers for overall water splitting, the cell voltages at 10 mA cm?2 were 1.44 and 1.50 V under pH 0 and 7, respectively, being record‐low values in both conditions.  相似文献

Herein, multifunctional N‐doped carbon nanodots (NCNDs) were prepared through the one‐step hydrothermal treatment of yeast. Results show that the NCNDs can be used as a new photocatalyst to drive the water‐splitting reaction under UV light. Moreover, the NCNDs can efficiently catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction. Under visible‐light irradiation, Eosin Y‐sensitized NCNDs exhibit excellent activity for hydrogen evolution. The hydrogen evolution rate of NCNDs (without any modification and co‐catalyst) reaches 107.1 μmol h?1 (2142 μmol g?1 h?1). When Pt is loaded on the NCNDs, the hydrogen evolution rate reaches 491.2 μmol h?1 (9824 μmol g?1 h?1) under visible‐light irradiation. In addition, the NCNDs show excellent fluorescent properties and can be applied as a fluorescent probe for the sensitive and selective detection of Fe3+.  相似文献

Ideal solar‐to‐fuel photocatalysts must effectively harvest sunlight to generate significant quantities of long‐lived charge carriers necessary for chemical reactions. Here we demonstrate the merits of augmenting traditional photoelectrochemical cells with plasmonic nanoparticles to satisfy these daunting photocatalytic requirements. Electrochemical techniques were employed to elucidate the mechanics of plasmon‐mediated electron transfer within Au/TiO2 heterostructures under visible‐light (λ>515 nm) irradiation in solution. Significantly, we discovered that these transferred electrons displayed excited‐state lifetimes two orders of magnitude longer than those of electrons photogenerated directly within TiO2 via UV excitation. These long‐lived electrons further enable visible‐light‐driven H2 evolution from water, heralding a new photocatalytic paradigm for solar energy conversion.  相似文献

A wide range of light absorption and rapid electron–hole separation are desired for efficient photocatalysis. Herein, on the basis of a semiconductor‐like metal–organic framework (MOF), a Pt@MOF/Au catalyst with two types of metal–MOF interfaces integrates the surface plasmon resonance excitation of Au nanorods with a Pt‐MOF Schottky junction, which not only extends the light absorption of the MOF from the UV to the visible region but also greatly accelerates charge transfer. The spatial separation of Pt and Au particles by the MOF further steers the formation of charge flow and expedites the charge migration. As a result, the Pt@MOF/Au presents an exceptionally high photocatalytic H2 production rate by water splitting under visible light irradiation, far superior to Pt/MOF/Au, MOF/Au and other counterparts with similar Pt or Au contents, highlighting the important role of each component and the Pt location in the catalyst.  相似文献

To rationally design efficient and cost‐effective electrocatalysts, a simple but efficient strategy has been developed to directly anchor prussian blue analogue (PBA) nanocubes on cobalt hydroxide nanoplates (PBA@Co(OH)2) via the in‐situ interfacial precipitation process. Subsequently, the thermal treatment in the presence of sodium hydrogen phosphite enabled the successful transition into metal phosphides with the hierarchical cube‐on‐plate structure. When used as electrocatalytsts, the obtained bimetal phosphides exhibited good bifunctional electrocatalytic activities for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions with good long‐term stability. Thus, an enhanced performance for overall water splitting can be achieved, which could be ascribed to the hierarchical structure and favorable composition of as‐prepared bimetal phosphide for rapid electron and mass transfer. The present study demonstrates a favorable approach to modulate the composition and structure of metal phosphide for enhancing the electrocatalytic ability toward water splitting.  相似文献

Iron nickel cobalt selenides are synthesized through a one‐step hydrothermal method. Quaternary Fe0.37Ni0.17Co0.36Se demonstrates multifunctionality and shows high electrocatalytic activity for quasi‐solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells with a power conversion efficiency of 8.42 %, the hydrogen evolution reaction, the oxygen evolution reaction, and water splitting. The electric power output from tandem quasi‐solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells under one‐sun illumination is sufficient to split water and exhibits a solar‐to‐hydrogen conversion efficiency of 5.58 % with Fe0.37Ni0.17Co0.36Se as the electrocatalyst in this integrated system. Owing to a remarkable synergistic effect, quaternary Fe0.37Ni0.17Co0.36Se is proven to be superior to ternary nickel cobalt selenide in terms of conductivity, electrocatalytic activity, and photovoltaic performance.  相似文献

The development of new energy materials that can be utilized to make renewable and clean fuels from abundant and easily accessible resources is among the most challenging and demanding tasks in science today. Solar‐powered catalytic water‐splitting processes can be exploited as a source of electrons and protons to make clean renewable fuels, such as hydrogen, and in the sequestration of CO2 and its conversion into low‐carbon energy carriers. Recently, there have been tremendous efforts to build up a stand‐alone solar‐to‐fuel conversion device, the “artificial leaf”, using light and water as raw materials. An overview of the recent progress in electrochemical and photo‐electrocatalytic water splitting devices is presented, using both molecular water oxidation complexes (WOCs) and nano‐structured assemblies to develop an artificial photosynthetic system.  相似文献

Developing an efficient single‐atom material (SAM) synthesis and exploring the energy‐related catalytic reaction are important but still challenging. A polymerization–pyrolysis–evaporation (PPE) strategy was developed to synthesize N‐doped porous carbon (NPC) with anchored atomically dispersed Fe‐N4 catalytic sites. This material was derived from predesigned bimetallic Zn/Fe polyphthalocyanine. Experiments and calculations demonstrate the formed Fe‐N4 site exhibits superior trifunctional electrocatalytic performance for oxygen reduction, oxygen evolution, and hydrogen evolution reactions. In overall water splitting and rechargeable Zn–air battery devices containing the Fe‐N4 SAs/NPC catalyst, it exhibits high efficiency and extraordinary stability. This current PPE method is a general strategy for preparing M SAs/NPC (M=Co, Ni, Mn), bringing new perspectives for designing various SAMs for catalytic application.  相似文献

Z‐scheme water splitting is a promising approach based on high‐performance photocatalysis by harvesting broadband solar energy. Its efficiency depends on the well‐defined interfaces between two semiconductors for the charge kinetics and their exposed surfaces for chemical reactions. Herein, we report a facile cation‐exchange approach to obtain compounds with both properties without the need for noble metals by forming Janus‐like structures consisting of γ‐MnS and Cu7S4 with high‐quality interfaces. The Janus‐like γ‐MnS/Cu7S4 structures displayed dramatically enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production rates of up to 718 μmol g−1 h−1 under full‐spectrum irradiation. Upon further integration with an MnOx oxygen‐evolution cocatalyst, overall water splitting was accomplished with the Janus structures. This work provides insight into the surface and interface design of hybrid photocatalysts, and offers a noble‐metal‐free approach to broadband photocatalytic hydrogen production.  相似文献

Au–Pd core–shell nanocrystals with tetrahexahedral (THH), cubic, and octahedral shapes and comparable sizes were synthesized. Similar‐sized Au and Pd cubes and octahedra were also prepared. These nanocrystals were used for the hydrogen‐evolution reaction (HER) from ammonia borane. Light irradiation can enhance the reaction rate for all the catalysts. In particular, Au–Pd THH exposing {730} facets showed the highest turnover frequency for hydrogen evolution under light with 3‐fold rate enhancement benefiting from lattice strain, modified surface electronic state, and a broader range of light absorption. Finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) simulations show a stronger electric field enhancement on Au–Pd core–shell THH than those on other Pd‐containing nanocrystals. Light‐assisted nitro reduction by ammonia borane on Au–Pd THH was also demonstrated. Au–Pd tetrahexahedra supported on activated carbon can act as a superior recyclable plasmonic photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution.  相似文献

A key to realizing the sustainable society is to develop highly active photocatalysts for selective organic synthesis effectively using sunlight as the energy source. Recently, metal‐oxide‐supported gold nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as a new type of visible‐light photocatalysts driven by the excitation of localized surface plasmon resonance of Au NPs. Here we show that visible‐light irradiation (λ>430 nm) of TiO2‐supported Au NPs with a bimodal size distribution (BM‐Au/TiO2) gives rise to the long‐range (>40 nm) electron transport from about 14 small (ca. 2 nm) Au NPs to one large (ca. 9 nm) Au NP through the conduction band of TiO2. As a result of the enhancement of charge separation, BM‐Au/TiO2 exhibits a high level of visible‐light activity for the one‐step synthesis of azobenzenes from nitrobenzenes at 25 °C with a yield greater than 95 % and a selectivity greater than 99 %, whereas unimodal Au/TiO2 (UM‐Au/TiO2) is photocatalytically inactive.  相似文献

Photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production using sustainable sunlight is a promising alternative to industrial hydrogen production. However, the scarcity of highly active, recyclable, inexpensive photocatalysts impedes the development of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) schemes. Herein, a metal–organic framework (MOF)‐template strategy was developed to prepare non‐noble metal co‐catalyst/solid solution heterojunction NiS/ZnxCd1−xS with superior photocatalytic HER activity. By adjusting the doping metal concentration in MOFs, the chemical compositions and band gaps of the heterojunctions can be fine‐tuned, and the light absorption capacity and photocatalytic activity were further optimized. NiS/Zn0.5Cd0.5S exhibits an optimal HER rate of 16.78 mmol g−1 h−1 and high stability and recyclability under visible‐light irradiation (λ>420 nm). Detailed characterizations and in‐depth DFT calculations reveal the relationship between the heterojunction and photocatalytic activity and confirm the importance of NiS in accelerating the water dissociation kinetics, which is a crucial factor for photocatalytic HER.  相似文献

Water splitting mediated by electron‐coupled‐proton buffer (ECPB) provides an efficient way to avoid gas mixing by separating oxygen evolution from hydrogen evolution in space and time. Though electrochemical and photoelectrochemcial water oxidation have been incorporated in such a two‐step water splitting system, alternative ways to reduce the cost and energy input for decoupling two half‐reactions are desired. Herein, we show the feasibility of photocatalytic oxygen evolution in a powder system with BiVO4 as a photocatalyst and polyoxometalate H3PMo12O40 as an electron and proton acceptor. The resulting reaction mixture was allowed to be directly used for the subsequent hydrogen evolution with the reduced H3PMo12O40 as electron and proton donors. Our system exhibits excellent stability in repeated oxygen and hydrogen evolution, which brings considerable convenience to decoupled water splitting.  相似文献

Hydrogen has enormous commercial potential as a secondary energy source because of its high calorific value, clean combustion byproducts, and multiple production methods. Electrocatalytic water splitting is a viable alternative to the conventional methane steam reforming technique, as it operates under mild conditions, produces high-quality hydrogen, and has a sustainable production process that requires less energy. Electrocatalysts composed of precious metals like Pt, Au, Ru, and Ag are commonly used in the investigation of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Nevertheless, their limited availability and expensive cost restrict practical use. In contrast, electrocatalysts that do not contain precious metals are readily available, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and possess electrocatalytic performance equal to that of noble metals. However, considerable research effort must be devoted to create cost-effective and high-performing catalysts. This article provides a comprehensive examination of the reaction mechanism involved in electrocatalytic water splitting in both acidic and basic environments. Additionally, recent breakthroughs in catalysts for both the hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions are also discussed. The structure-activity relationship of the catalyst was deep-going discussed, together with the prospects of current obstacles and potential for electrocatalytic water splitting, aiming at provide valuable perspectives for the advancement of economical and efficient electrocatalysts on an industrial scale.  相似文献

In the context of gaining understanding on the origin of the visible‐light photoresponse of TiO2 containing gold nanoparticles, the photocurrent spectra and photocatalytic H2 evolution of titania (P25) and Au–P25 were compared. Whereas no photocurrent was detected upon visible‐light irradiation for either of the two photocatalysts, Au–P25 exhibited photocatalytic H2 evolution for wavelengths between 400 and 575 nm. This contradictory behavior under visible‐light irradiation of Au–P25 was rationalized by transient absorption spectroscopy. It was suggested that photocatalytic H2 generation results from methanol quenching of the charge‐separation state in each semiconductor nanoparticle, but the lack of photocurrent is due to the short lifetime of the charge separation, which makes interparticle charge migration for micrometric distances unlikely.  相似文献

The development of durable, low‐cost, and efficient photo‐/electrolysis for the oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions (OER and HER) is important to fulfill increasing energy requirements. Herein, highly efficient and active photo‐/electrochemical catalysts, that is, CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 hybrids, have been synthesized successfully through a facile in situ co‐precipitation method at room temperature. The CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 composite exhibits an obvious OER electrocatalytic performance with a current density of 40 mA cm?2 at an overpotential of 350 mV for water oxidation, which is 2.5 times higher than pure CoMn‐LDH nanosheets. For HER, CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 (η50=?448 mV) requires a potential close to Pt/C (η50=?416 mV) to reach a current density of 50 mA cm2. Furthermore, under visible‐light irradiation, the photocurrent density of the CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 composite is 0.227 mA cm?2, which is 2.1 and 3.8 time higher than pristine CoMn‐LDH (0.108 mA cm?2) and g‐C3N4 (0.061 mA cm?2), respectively. The CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 composite delivers a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at 1.56 V and 100 mA cm?2 at 1.82 V for the overall water‐splitting reaction. Therefore, this work establishes the first example of pure CoMn‐LDH and CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 hybrids as electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water‐splitting systems for both OER and HER, which may open a pathway to develop and explore other LDH and g‐C3N4 nanosheets as efficient catalysts for renewable energy applications.  相似文献
