Control over the solubility properties of container molecules is a central challenge in host–guest chemistry. Herein we present a simple anion‐exchange protocol that allows the dissolution in water of various hydrophobic metal–organic container molecules prepared by iron(II)‐templated subcomponent self‐assembly. Our process involved the exchange of less hydrophilic trifluoromethanesulfonate anions for hydrophilic sulfate; the resulting water‐soluble cages could be rendered water‐insoluble through reverse anion exchange. Notably, this strategy allowed cargoes within capsules, including polycyclic aromatic compounds and complex organic drugs, to be brought into water. Hydrophobic effects appeared to enhance binding, as many of these cargoes were not bound in non‐aqueous media. Studies of the scope of this method revealed that cages containing tetratopic and tritopic ligands were more stable in water, whereas cages with ditopic ligands disassembled.  相似文献

Chiral nanosized confinements play a major role for enantioselective recognition and reaction control in biological systems. Supramolecular self‐assembly gives access to artificial mimics with tunable sizes and properties. Herein, a new family of [Pd2L4] coordination cages based on a chiral [6]helicene backbone is introduced. A racemic mixture of the bis‐monodentate pyridyl ligand L1 selectively assembles with PdII cations under chiral self‐discrimination to an achiral meso cage, cis‐[Pd2 L1P 2 L1M 2]. Enantiopure L1 forms homochiral cages [Pd2 L1P/M 4]. A longer derivative L2 forms chiral cages [Pd2 L2P/M 4] with larger cavities, which bind optical isomers of chiral guests with different affinities. Owing to its distinct chiroptical properties, this cage can distinguish non‐chiral guests of different lengths, as they were found to squeeze or elongate the cavity under modulation of the helical pitch of the helicenes. The CD spectroscopic results were supported by ion mobility mass spectrometry.  相似文献

Planar pyridyl N‐oxides are encapsulated in mono‐metallic PdII/PtII‐cages based on a tetra‐pyridyl calix[4]pyrrole ligand. The exchange dynamics of the cage complexes are slow on both the NMR chemical shift and EXSY timescales, but encapsulation of the guests by the cages is fast on the human timescale. A “French doors” mechanism, involving the rotation of the meso‐phenyl walls of the cages, allows the passage of the planar guests. The encapsulation of quinuclidine N‐oxide, a sterically more demanding guest, is slower than pyridyl N‐oxides in the PdII‐cage, and does not take place in the PtII counterpart. A modification of the encapsulation mechanism for the quinuclidine N‐oxide is postulated that requires the partial dissociation of the PdII‐cage. The substrate binding selectivity featured by the cages is related to their different guest uptake/release mechanisms.  相似文献

The sequestration of luminophores within supramolecular polyhedral compartments of a crystalline zeolite‐like hydrogen‐bonded framework illustrates a unique approach to limiting the self‐quenching ordinarily exhibited at the high concentrations achievable in this framework. A range of differently sized luminescent guests, namely coumarin 1, coumarin 4, fluorescein, [Ru(bpy)3]Cl2, and rhodamine B, can be encapsulated in amounts of up to one molecule per cage, equivalent to a concentration of 0.175 m , which is significantly higher than the concentration at which aggregation‐induced quenching occurs in other media. The luminescence spectra of the encapsulated guests are consistent with the presence of isolated monomers and the absence of self‐quenching. The emission color of the single crystals can be tuned readily from blue to red through the choice of guest molecules. These observations promise an approach to organic solid‐state lasing compounds if crystals of sufficient size and quality can be prepared.  相似文献

A proof‐of‐concept related to the redox‐control of the binding/releasing process in a host–guest system is achieved by designing a neutral and robust Pt‐based redox‐active metallacage involving two extended‐tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) ligands. When neutral, the cage is able to bind a planar polyaromatic guest (coronene). Remarkably, the chemical or electrochemical oxidation of the host–guest complex leads to the reversible expulsion of the guest outside the cavity, which is assigned to a drastic change of the host–guest interaction mode, illustrating the key role of counteranions along the exchange process. The reversible process is supported by various experimental data (1H NMR spectroscopy, ESI‐FTICR, and spectroelectrochemistry) as well as by in‐depth theoretical calculations performed at the density functional theory (DFT) level.  相似文献

Metal–organic anion channels based on Zn10L15 pentagonal prisms have been prepared by subcomponent self‐assembly. The insertion of these prisms into lipid membranes was investigated by ion‐current and fluorescence measurements. The channels were found to mediate the transport of Cl anions through planar lipid bilayers and into vesicles. Tosylate anions were observed to bind and plug the central channels of the prisms in the solid state and in solution. In membranes, dodecyl sulfate blocked chloride transport through the central channel. Our Zn10L15 prism thus inserts into lipid bilayers to turn on anion transport, which can then be turned off through addition of the blocker dodecyl sulfate.  相似文献

Three tetrahedral organic cages have been obtained by condensing a triamino linker with a set of three ostensibly analogous triformyl precursors. Despite the large number of imine bonds formed, the corresponding cages were obtained in exceptionally high yields. Both theory and experimental results demonstrate that intramolecular CH⋅⋅⋅π interactions within all of the cage frameworks play an important role in abetting the condensations and contributing to the near‐quantitative synthetic yields. The three cages of this study exhibit high thermodynamic and kinetic stability. A variety of small neutral guest molecules with complementary sizes and geometries may be used as templates in the cage forming reactions. Among the guests that may be used in this way is white phosphorus (P4), whose inherent reactivity towards oxygen is almost fully attenuated when bound within one of the cages.  相似文献

We describe the preparation of the first water‐soluble pH‐responsive supramolecular hexagonal boxes (SHBs) based on multiple charge‐assisted hydrogen bonds between peramino‐pillar[6]arenes 2 with the molecular “lid” mellitic acid ( 1 a ). The interaction between 2 and 1 a , as well as the other “lids” pyromellitic and trimesic acids ( 1 b and 1 c , respecively) were studied by a combination of experimental and computational methods. Interestingly, the addition of 1 a to the complexes of the protonated form of pillar[6]arene 2 , that is, 3 , with bis‐sulfonate 4 a or 4 b , immediately led to guest escape along with the formation of closed 1 a22 supramolecular boxes. Moreover, the process of the openning and closing of the supramolecular boxes along with threading and escaping of the guests, respectively, was found to be reversible and pH‐responsive. This study paves the way for the easy and modular preparation of different SHBs that may have myriad applications.  相似文献
