The lithium–sulfur battery is regarded as one of the most promising candidates for lithium–metal batteries with high energy density. However, dendrite Li formation and low cycle efficiency of the Li anode as well as unstable sulfur based cathode still hinder its practical application. Herein a novel electrolyte (1 m LiODFB/EC‐DMC‐FEC) is designed not only to address the above problems of Li anode but also to match sulfur cathode perfectly, leading to extraordinary electrochemical performances. Using this electrolyte, lithium|lithium cells can cycle stably for above 2000 hours and the average Coulumbic efficiency reaches 98.8 %. Moreover, the Li–S battery delivers a reversible capacity of about 1400 mAh g?1sulfur with retention of 89 % for 1100 cycles at 1 C, and a capacity above 1100 mAh g?1sulfur at 10 C. The more advantages of this cell system are its outstanding cycle stability at 60 °C and no self‐discharge phenomena.  相似文献

An organotrisulfide (RSSSR, R is an organic group) has three sulfur atoms which could be involved in multi‐electron reduction reactions; therefore it is a promising electrode material for batteries. Herein, we use dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS) as a model compound to study its redox reactions in rechargeable lithium batteries. With the aid of XRD, XPS, and GC‐MS analysis, we confirm DMTS could undergo almost a 4 e? reduction process in a complete discharge to 1.0 V. The discharge products are primarily LiSCH3 and Li2S. The lithium cell with DMTS catholyte delivers an initial specific capacity of 720 mAh g?1DMTS and retains 82 % of the capacity over 50 cycles at C/10 rate. When the electrolyte/DMTS ratio is 3:1 mL g?1, the reversible specific energy for the cell including electrolyte can be 229 Wh kg?1. This study shows organotrisulfide is a promising high‐capacity cathode material for high‐energy rechargeable lithium batteries.  相似文献

Recently, there has been great interest in developing advanced sodium‐ion batteries for large‐scale application. Most efforts have concentrated on the search for high‐performance electrode materials only in sodium half‐cells. Research on sodium full cells for practical application has encountered many problems, such as insufficient cycles with rapid capacity decay, low safety, and low operating voltage. Herein, we present a layered P2‐Na0.66Ni0.17Co0.17Ti0.66O2, as both an anode (ca. 0.69 V versus Na+/Na) and as a high‐voltage cathode (ca. 3.74 V versus Na+/Na). The full cell based on this bipolar electrode exhibits well‐defined voltage plateaus near 3.10 V, which is the highest average voltage in the symmetric cells. It also shows the longest cycle life (75.9 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles) in all sodium full cells, a usable capacity of 92 mAh g?1, and superior rate capability (65 mAh g?1 at a high rate of 2C).  相似文献

Lithium–sulfur batteries have been investigated as promising electrochemical‐energy storage systems owing to their high theoretical energy density. Sulfur‐based cathodes must not only be highly conductive to enhance the utilization of sulfur, but also effectively confine polysulfides to mitigate their dissolution. A new physical and chemical entrapment strategy is based on a highly efficient sulfur host, namely hollow carbon nanofibers (HCFs) filled with MnO2 nanosheets. Benefiting from both the HCFs and birnessite‐type MnO2 nanosheets, the MnO2@HCF hybrid host not only facilitates electron and ion transfer during the redox reactions, but also efficiently prevents polysulfide dissolution. With a high sulfur content of 71 wt % in the composite and an areal sulfur mass loading of 3.5 mg cm?2 in the electrode, the MnO2@HCF/S electrode delivered a specific capacity of 1161 mAh g?1 (4.1 mAh cm?2) at 0.05 C and maintained a stable cycling performance at 0.5 C over 300 cycles.  相似文献

Metal–organic framework‐derived NiCo2.5S4 microrods wrapped in reduced graphene oxide (NCS@RGO) were synthesized for potassium‐ion storage. Upon coordination with organic potassium salts, NCS@RGO exhibits an ultrahigh initial reversible specific capacity (602 mAh g?1 at 50 mA g?1) and ultralong cycle life (a reversible specific capacity of 495 mAh g?1 at 200 mA g?1 after 1 900 cycles over 314 days). Furthermore, the battery demonstrates a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 78 %, outperforming most sulfides reported previously. Advanced ex situ characterization techniques, including atomic force microscopy, were used for evaluation and the results indicate that the organic potassium salt‐containing electrolyte helps to form thin and robust solid electrolyte interphase layers, which reduce the formation of byproducts during the potassiation–depotassiation process and enhance the mechanical stability of electrodes. The excellent conductivity of the RGO in the composites, and the robust interface between the electrodes and electrolytes, imbue the electrode with useful properties; including, ultrafast potassium‐ion storage with a reversible specific capacity of 402 mAh g?1 even at 2 A g?1.  相似文献

We report a rational design of a sulfur heterocyclic quinone (dibenzo[b,i]thianthrene‐5,7,12,14‐tetraone=DTT) used as a cathode (uptake of four lithium ions to form Li4DTT) and a conductive polymer [poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)=PEDOT:PSS) used as a binder for a high‐performance rechargeable lithium‐ion battery. Because of the reduced energy level of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) caused by the introduced S atoms, the initial Li‐ion intercalation potential of DTT is 2.89 V, which is 0.3 V higher than that of its carbon analog. Meanwhile, there is a noncovalent interaction between DTT and PEDOT:PSS, which remarkably suppressed the dissolution and enhanced the conductivity of DTT, thus leading to the great improvement of the electrochemical performance. The DTT cathode with the PEDOT:PSS binder displays a long‐term cycling stability (292 mAh g?1 for the first cycle, 266 mAh g?1 after 200 cycles at 0.1 C) and a high rate capability (220 mAh g?1 at 1 C). This design strategy based on a noncovalent interaction is very effective for the application of small organic molecules as the cathode of rechargeable lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Owing to their high specific capacity and abundant reserve, CuxS compounds are promising electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Carbon compositing could stabilize the CuxS structure and repress capacity fading during the electrochemical cycling, but the corresponding Li+ storage mechanism and stabilization effect should be further clarified. In this study, nanoscale Cu2S was synthesized by CuS co-precipitation and thermal reduction with polyelectrolytes. High-temperature synchrotron radiation diffraction was used to monitor the thermal reduction process. During the first cycle, the conversion mechanism upon lithium storage in the Cu2S/carbon was elucidated by operando synchrotron radiation diffraction and in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The N-doped carbon-composited Cu2S (Cu2S/C) exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 425 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1, with a higher, long-term capacity of 523 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 after 200 cycles; in contrast, the bare CuS electrode exhibits 123 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles. Multiple-scan cyclic voltammetry proves that extra Li+ storage can mainly be ascribed to the contribution of the capacitive storage.  相似文献

Room‐temperature sodium–sulfur (RT‐Na/S) batteries hold significant promise for large‐scale application because of low cost of both sodium and sulfur. However, the dissolution of polysulfides into the electrolyte limits practical application. Now, the design and testing of a new class of sulfur hosts as transition‐metal (Fe, Cu, and Ni) nanoclusters (ca. 1.2 nm) wreathed on hollow carbon nanospheres (S@M‐HC) for RT‐Na/S batteries is reported. A chemical couple between the metal nanoclusters and sulfur is hypothesized to assist in immobilization of sulfur and to enhance conductivity and activity. S@Fe‐HC exhibited an unprecedented reversible capacity of 394 mAh g?1 despite 1000 cycles at 100 mA g?1, together with a rate capability of 220 mAh g?1 at a high current density of 5 A g?1. DFT calculations underscore that these metal nanoclusters serve as electrocatalysts to rapidly reduce Na2S4 into short‐chain sulfides and thereby obviate the shuttle effect.  相似文献

Bipolar redox organics have attracted interest as electrode materials for energy storage owing to their flexibility, sustainability and environmental friendliness. However, an understanding of their application in all‐organic batteries, let alone dual‐ion batteries (DIBs), is in its infancy. Herein, we propose a strategy to screen a variety of phthalocyanine‐based bipolar organics. The self‐polymerizable bipolar Cu tetraaminephthalocyanine (CuTAPc) shows multifunctional applications in various energy storage systems, including lithium‐based DIBs using CuTAPc as the cathode material, graphite‐based DIBs using CuTAPc as the anode material and symmetric DIBs using CuTAPc as both the cathode and anode materials. Notably, in lithium‐based DIBs, the use of CuTAPc as the cathode material results in a high discharge capacity of 236 mAh g?1 at 50 mA g?1 and a high reversible capacity of 74.3 mAh g?1 after 4000 cycles at 4 A g?1. Most importantly, a high energy density of 239 Wh kg?1 and power density of 11.5 kW kg?1 can be obtained in all‐organic symmetric DIBs.  相似文献

Biomass‐derived porous carbon BPC‐700, incorporating micropores and small mesopores, was prepared through pyrolysis of banana peel followed by activation with KOH. A high specific BET surface area (2741 m2 g?1), large specific pore volume (1.23 cm3 g?1), and well‐controlled pore size distribution (0.6–5.0 nm) were obtained and up to 65 wt % sulfur content could be loaded into the pores of the BPC‐700 sample. When the resultant C/S composite, BPC‐700‐S65, was used as the cathode of a Li–S battery, a large initial discharge capacity (ca. 1200 mAh g?1) was obtained, indicating a good sulfur utilization rate. An excellent discharge capacity (590 mAh g?1) was also achieved for BPC‐700‐S65 at the high current rate of 4 C (12.72 mA cm?2), showing its extremely high rate capability. A reversible capacity of about 570 mAh g?1 was achieved for BPC‐700‐S65 after 500 cycles at 1 C (3.18 mA cm?2), indicating an outstanding cycling stability.  相似文献

MoS2 holds great promise as high‐rate electrode for lithium‐ion batteries since its large interlayer can allow fast lithium diffusion in 3.0–1.0 V. However, the low theoretical capacity (167 mAh g?1) limits its wide application. Here, by fine tuning the lithiation depth of MoS2, we demonstrate that its parent layered structure can be preserved with expanded interlayers while cycling in 3.0–0.6 V. The deeper lithiation and maintained crystalline structure endows commercially micrometer‐sized MoS2 with a capacity of 232 mAh g?1 at 0.05 A g?1 and circa 92 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1.0 A g?1. Moreover, the enlarged interlayers enable MoS2 to release a capacity of 165 mAh g?1 at 5.0 A g?1, which is double the capacity obtained under 3.0–1.0 V at the same rate. Our strategy of controlling the lithiation depth of MoS2 to avoid fracture ushers in new possibilities to enhance the lithium storage of layered transition‐metal dichalcogenides.  相似文献

Plating battery electrodes typically deliver higher specific capacity values than insertion or conversion electrodes because the ion charge carriers represent the sole electrode active mass, and a host electrode is unnecessary. However, reversible plating electrodes are rare for electronically insulating nonmetals. Now, a highly reversible iodine plating cathode is presented that operates on the redox couples of I2/[ZnIx(OH2)4?x]2?x in a water‐in‐salt electrolyte. The iodine plating cathode with the theoretical capacity of 211 mAh g?1 plates on carbon fiber paper as the current collector, delivering a large areal capacity of 4 mAh cm?2. Tunable femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy coupled with DFT calculations elucidate a series of [ZnIx(OH2)4?x]2?x superhalide ions serving as iodide vehicles in the electrolyte, which eliminates most free iodide ions, thus preventing the consequent dissolution of the cathode‐plated iodine as triiodides.  相似文献

Cu3V2O8 nanoparticles with particle sizes of 40–50 nm have been prepared by the co‐precipitation method. The Cu3V2O8 electrode delivers a discharge capacity of 462 mA h g?1 for the first 10 cycles and then the specific capacity, surprisingly, increases to 773 mA h g?1 after 50 cycles, possibly as a result of extra lithium interfacial storage through the reversible formation/decomposition of a solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film. In addition, the electrode shows good rate capability with discharge capacities of 218 mA h g?1 under current densities of 1000 mA g?1. Moreover, the lithium storage mechanism for Cu3V2O8 nanoparticles is explained on the basis of ex situ X‐ray diffraction data and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy analyses at different charge/discharge depths. It was evidenced that Cu3V2O8 decomposes into copper metal and Li3VO4 on being initially discharged to 0.01 V, and the Li3VO4 is then likely to act as the host for lithium ions in subsequent cycles by means of the intercalation mechanism. Such an “in situ” compositing phenomenon during the electrochemical processes is novel and provides a very useful insight into the design of new anode materials for application in lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Developing rechargeable Na–CO2 batteries is significant for energy conversion and utilization of CO2. However, the reported batteries in pure CO2 atmosphere are non‐rechargeable with limited discharge capacity of 200 mAh g?1. Herein, we realized the rechargeability of a Na–CO2 battery, with the proposed and demonstrated reversible reaction of 3 CO2+4 Na?2 Na2CO3+C. The battery consists of a Na anode, an ether‐based electrolyte, and a designed cathode with electrolyte‐treated multi‐wall carbon nanotubes, and shows reversible capacity of 60000 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1 (≈1000 Wh kg?1) and runs for 200 cycles with controlled capacity of 2000 mAh g?1 at charge voltage <3.7 V. The porous structure, high electro‐conductivity, and good wettability of electrolyte to cathode lead to reduced electrochemical polarization of the battery and further result in high performance. Our work provides an alternative approach towards clean recycling and utilization of CO2.  相似文献

Rechargeable aqueous batteries are promising energy storage devices because of their high safety and low cost. However, their energy densities are generally unsatisfactory due to the limited capacities of ion-inserted electrode materials, prohibiting their widespread applications. Herein, a high-energy aqueous all-sulfur battery was constructed via matching S/Cu2S and S/CaSx redox couples. In such batteries, both cathodes and anodes undergo the conversion reaction between sulfur/metal sulfides redox couples, which display high specific capacities and rational electrode potential difference. Furthermore, during the charge/discharge process, the simultaneous redox of Cu2+ ion charge-carriers also takes place and contributes to a more two-electron transfer, which doubles the capacity of cathodes. As a result, the assembled aqueous all-sulfur batteries deliver a high discharge capacity of 447 mAh g−1 based on total mass of sulfur in cathode and anode at 0.1 A g−1, contributing to an enhanced energy density of 393 Wh kg−1. This work will widen the scope for the design of high-energy aqueous batteries.  相似文献

The development of suitable anode materials is far from satisfactory and is a major scientific challenge for a competitive sodium‐ion battery technology. Metal sulfides have demonstrated encouraging results, but still suffer from sluggish kinetics and severe capacity decay associated with the phase change. Herein we show that rational electrode design, that is, building efficient electron/ion mixed‐conducting networks, can overcome the problems resulting from conversion reactions. A general strategy for the preparation of hierarchical carbon‐coated metal sulfide (MS?C) spheres through thermal sulfurization of metal glycerate has been developed. We demonstrate the concept by synthesizing highly uniform hierarchical carbon coated vanadium sulfide (V2S3?C) spheres, which exhibit a highly reversibly sodium storage capacity of 777 mAh g?1 at 100 mA g?1, excellent rate capability (410 mAh g?1 at 4000 mA g?1), and impressive cycling ability.  相似文献

Porous nitrogen‐doped carbon nanotubes (PNCNTs) with a high specific surface area (1765 m2 g?1) and a large pore volume (1.28 cm3 g?1) have been synthesized from a tubular polypyrrole (T‐PPY). The inner diameter and wall thickness of the PNCNTs are about 55 nm and 22 nm, respectively. This material shows extremely promising properties for both supercapacitors and for encapsulating sulfur as a superior cathode material for high‐performance lithium–sulfur (Li‐S) batteries. At a current density of 0.5 A g?1, PNCNT presents a high specific capacitance of 210 F g?1, as well as excellent cycling stability at a current density of 2 A g?1. When the S/PNCNT composite was tested as the cathode material for Li‐S batteries, the initial discharge capacity was 1341 mAh g?1 at a current rate of 1 C and, even after 50 cycles at the same rate, the high reversible capacity was retained at 933 mAh g?1. The promising electrochemical energy‐storage performance of the PNCNTs can be attributed to their excellent conductivity, large surface area, nitrogen doping, and unique pore‐size distribution.  相似文献

Sluggish kinetics and poor reversibility of cathode chemistry is the major challenge for magnesium batteries to achieve high volumetric capacity. Introduction of the cuprous ion (Cu+) as a charge carrier can decouple the magnesiation related energy storage from the cathode electrochemistry. Cu+ is generated from a fast equilibrium between copper selenide electrode and Mg electrolyte during standing time, rather than in the electrochemical process. A reversible chemical magnesiation/de‐magnesiation can be driven by this solid/liquid equilibrium. During a typical discharge process, Cu+ is reduced to Cu and drives the equilibrium to promote the magnesiation process. The reversible Cu to Cu+ redox promotes the recharge process. This novel Cu+ mediated cathode chemistry of Mg battery leads to a high reversible areal capacity of 12.5 mAh cm?2 with high mass loading (49.1 mg cm?2) of the electrode. 80 % capacity retention can be achieved for 200 cycles after a conditioning process.  相似文献

A novel room temperature rechargeable battery with VOCl cathode, lithium anode, and chloride ion transporting liquid electrolyte is described. The cell is based on the reversible transfer of chloride ions between the two electrodes. The VOCl cathode delivered an initial discharge capacity of 189 mAh g?1. A reversible capacity of 113 mAh g?1 was retained even after 100 cycles when cycled at a high current density of 522 mA g?1. Such high cycling stability was achieved in chloride ion batteries for the first time, demonstrating the practicality of the system beyond a proof of concept model. The electrochemical reaction mechanism of the VOCl electrode in the chloride ion cell was investigated in detail by ex situ X‐ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results confirm reversible deintercalation–intercalation of chloride ions in the VOCl electrode.  相似文献

Phosphorus‐rich metal phosphides have very high lithium storage capacities, but they are difficult to prepare. A low‐temperature phosphorization method based on Mg reducing PCl3 in ZnCl2 molten salt at 300 °C is developed to synthesize phosphorus‐rich CuP2@C from a Cu‐MOF derived Cu@C composite. Abnormal oxidation of Cu by Zn2+ in the molten salt is observed, which leads to the porous honeycomb nanostructure and homogeneously distributed ultrafine CuP2 nanocrystals. The honeycomb CuP2@C exhibits excellent lithium storage performance with high reversible capacity (1146 mAh g?1 at 0.2 A g?1) and superior cycling stability (720 mAh g?1 after 600 cycles at 1.0 A g?1), showing the promising application of P‐rich metal phosphides in lithium ion batteries.  相似文献
