Insufficient ionic conductivity and freezing of the electrolyte are considered the main problems for electrochemical energy storage at low temperatures (low T). Here, an electrolyte with a freezing point lower than ?130 °C is developed by using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as an additive with molar fraction of 0.3 to an aqueous solution of 2 m NaClO4 (2M‐0.3 electrolyte). The 2M‐0.3 electrolyte exhibits sufficient ionic conductivity of 0.11 mS cm?1 at ?50 °C. The combination of spectroscopic investigations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations reveal that hydrogen bonds are stably formed between DMSO and water molecules, facilitating the operation of the electrolyte at ultra‐low T. Using DMSO as the electrolyte additive, the aqueous rechargeable alkali‐ion batteries (AABs) can work well even at ?50 °C. This work provides a simple and effective strategy to develop low T AABs.  相似文献

Graphite shows great potential as an anode material for rechargeable metal‐ion batteries because of its high abundance and low cost. However, the electrochemical performance of graphite anode materials for rechargeable potassium‐ion batteries needs to be further improved. Reported herein is a natural graphite with superior rate performance and cycling stability obtained through a unique K+‐solvent co‐intercalation mechanism in a 1 m KCF3SO3 diethylene glycol dimethyl ether electrolyte. The co‐intercalation mechanism was demonstrated by ex situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and in situ X‐ray diffraction. Moreover, the structure of the [K‐solvent]+ complexes intercalated with the graphite and the conditions for reversible K+‐solvent co‐intercalation into graphite are proposed based on the experimental results and first‐principles calculations. This work provides important insights into the design of natural graphite for high‐performance rechargeable potassium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Developing rechargeable Na–CO2 batteries is significant for energy conversion and utilization of CO2. However, the reported batteries in pure CO2 atmosphere are non‐rechargeable with limited discharge capacity of 200 mAh g?1. Herein, we realized the rechargeability of a Na–CO2 battery, with the proposed and demonstrated reversible reaction of 3 CO2+4 Na?2 Na2CO3+C. The battery consists of a Na anode, an ether‐based electrolyte, and a designed cathode with electrolyte‐treated multi‐wall carbon nanotubes, and shows reversible capacity of 60000 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1 (≈1000 Wh kg?1) and runs for 200 cycles with controlled capacity of 2000 mAh g?1 at charge voltage <3.7 V. The porous structure, high electro‐conductivity, and good wettability of electrolyte to cathode lead to reduced electrochemical polarization of the battery and further result in high performance. Our work provides an alternative approach towards clean recycling and utilization of CO2.  相似文献

A rechargeable Li metal anode coupled with a high‐voltage cathode is a promising approach to high‐energy‐density batteries exceeding 300 Wh kg?1. Reported here is an advanced dual‐additive electrolyte containing a unique solvation structure and it comprises a tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane additive and LiNO3 in a carbonate‐based electrolyte. This system generates a robust outer Li2O solid electrolyte interface and F‐ and B‐containing conformal cathode electrolyte interphase. The resulting stable ion transport kinetics enables excellent cycling of Li/LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 for 140 cycles with 80 % capacity retention under highly challenging conditions (≈295.1 Wh kg?1 at cell‐level). The electrolyte also exhibits high cycling stability for a 4.6 V LiCoO2 (160 cycles with 89.8 % capacity retention) cathode and 4.95 V LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode.  相似文献

A new super‐concentrated aqueous electrolyte is proposed by introducing a second lithium salt. The resultant ultra‐high concentration of 28 m led to more effective formation of a protective interphase on the anode along with further suppression of water activities at both anode and cathode surfaces. The improved electrochemical stability allows the use of TiO2 as the anode material, and a 2.5 V aqueous Li‐ion cell based on LiMn2O4 and carbon‐coated TiO2 delivered the unprecedented energy density of 100 Wh kg?1 for rechargeable aqueous Li‐ion cells, along with excellent cycling stability and high coulombic efficiency. It has been demonstrated that the introduction of a second salts into the “water‐in‐salt” electrolyte further pushed the energy densities of aqueous Li‐ion cells closer to those of the state‐of‐the‐art Li‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Aluminum metal is a promising anode material for next generation rechargeable batteries owing to its abundance, potentially dendrite‐free deposition, and high capacity. The rechargeable aluminum/sulfur (Al/S) battery is of great interest owing to its high energy density (1340 Wh kg?1) and low cost. However, Al/S chemistry suffers poor reversibility owing to the difficulty of oxidizing AlSx. Herein, we demonstrate the first reversible Al/S battery in ionic‐liquid electrolyte with an activated carbon cloth/sulfur composite cathode. Electrochemical, spectroscopic, and microscopic results suggest that sulfur undergoes a solid‐state conversion reaction in the electrolyte. Kinetics analysis identifies that the slow solid‐state sulfur conversion reaction causes large voltage hysteresis and limits the energy efficiency of the system.  相似文献

An organotrisulfide (RSSSR, R is an organic group) has three sulfur atoms which could be involved in multi‐electron reduction reactions; therefore it is a promising electrode material for batteries. Herein, we use dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS) as a model compound to study its redox reactions in rechargeable lithium batteries. With the aid of XRD, XPS, and GC‐MS analysis, we confirm DMTS could undergo almost a 4 e? reduction process in a complete discharge to 1.0 V. The discharge products are primarily LiSCH3 and Li2S. The lithium cell with DMTS catholyte delivers an initial specific capacity of 720 mAh g?1DMTS and retains 82 % of the capacity over 50 cycles at C/10 rate. When the electrolyte/DMTS ratio is 3:1 mL g?1, the reversible specific energy for the cell including electrolyte can be 229 Wh kg?1. This study shows organotrisulfide is a promising high‐capacity cathode material for high‐energy rechargeable lithium batteries.  相似文献

Flexible zinc–air batteries (ZAB) are a promising battery candidate for emerging flexible electronic devices, but the catalysis‐based working principle and unique semi‐opened structure pose a severe challenge to their overall performance at cold temperature. Herein, we report the first flexible rechargeable ZAB with excellent low‐temperature adaptability, based on the innovation of an efficient electrocatalyst to offset the electrochemical performance shrinkage caused by decreased temperature and a highly conductive hydrogel with a polarized terminal group to render the anti‐freezing property. The fabricated ZABs show excellent electrochemical performances that outperform those of many aqueous ZABs at room temperature. They also deliver a high capacity of 691 mAh g?1 and an energy density of 798 Wh kg?1 at ?20 °C (92.7 % and 87.2 % retention of the room temperature counterparts, respectively), together with excellent flexibility and reverting capability.  相似文献

Cost‐effective aqueous rechargeable batteries are attractive alternatives to non‐aqueous cells for stationary grid energy storage. Among different aqueous cells, zinc‐ion batteries (ZIBs), based on Zn2+ intercalation chemistry, stand out as they can employ high‐capacity Zn metal as the anode material. Herein, we report a layered calcium vanadium oxide bronze as the cathode material for aqueous Zn batteries. For the storage of the Zn2+ ions in the aqueous electrolyte, we demonstrate that the calcium‐based bronze structure can deliver a high capacity of 340 mA h g?1 at 0.2 C, good rate capability, and very long cycling life (96 % retention after 3000 cycles at 80 C). Further, we investigate the Zn2+ storage mechanism, and the corresponding electrochemical kinetics in this bronze cathode. Finally, we show that our Zn cell delivers an energy density of 267 W h kg?1 at a power density of 53.4 W kg?1.  相似文献

Rechargeable batteries have been used to power various electric devices and store energy from renewables, but their toxic components (namely, electrode materials, electrolyte, and separator) generally cause serious environment issues when disused. Such toxicity characteristic makes them difficult to power future wearable electronic devices. Now an environmentally friendly and highly safe rechargeable battery, based on a pyrene‐4,5,9,10‐tetraone (PTO) cathode and zinc anode in mild aqueous electrolyte is presented. The PTO‐cathode shows a high specific capacity (336 mAh g?1) for Zn2+ storage with fast kinetics and high reversibility. Thus, the PTO//Zn full cell exhibits a high energy density (186.7 Wh kg?1), supercapacitor‐like power behavior and long‐term lifespan (over 1000 cycles). Moreover, a belt‐shaped PTO//Zn battery with robust mechanical durability and remarkable flexibility is first fabricated to clarify its potential application in wearable electronic devices.  相似文献

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are highly regarded as the next‐generation energy‐storage devices because of their ultrahigh theoretical energy density of 2600 Wh kg?1. Sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) is considered a promising sulfur cathode to substitute carbon/sulfur (C/S) composites to afford higher Coulombic efficiency, improved cycling stability, and potential high‐energy‐density Li–SPAN batteries. However, the instability of the Li‐metal anode threatens the performances of Li–SPAN batteries bringing limited lifespan and safety hazards. Li‐metal can react with most kinds of electrolyte to generate a protective solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), electrolyte regulation is a widely accepted strategy to protect Li‐metal anodes in rechargeable batteries. Herein, the basic principles and current challenges of Li–SPAN batteries are addressed. Recent advances on electrolyte regulation towards stable Li‐metal anodes in Li–SPAN batteries are summarized to suggest design strategies of solvents, lithium salts, additives, and gel electrolyte. Finally, prospects for future electrolyte design and Li anode protection in Li–SPAN batteries are discussed.  相似文献

In this study, we explored the feasibility of using electrochemically generated γ‐LixV2O5 as an insertion‐type anode in the lithium‐ion capacitor (LIC) with activated carbon (AC) as a cathode. Along with the native form of V2O5, their carbon composites are also used as the electrode material which is prepared by high‐energy ball milling. The electrochemical pre‐lithiation strategy is used to generate the desired γ‐phase of V2O5 (γ‐LixV2O5). Under the optimized mass loading conditions, the LICs are assembled with γ‐LixV2O5 as anode and AC as a cathode in the organic medium. Among the different LICs fabricated, AC/γ‐LixV2O5‐BM50 configuration delivered an energy density of 33.91 Wh kg?1 @ 0.22 kW kg?1 with excellent capacity retention characteristics. However, a dramatic increase in energy density (43.98 Wh kg?1@0.28 kW kg?1) is noted after the electrolyte modification with fluoroethylene carbonate. The high temperature performance of the assembled LIC is also studied and found that γ‐LixV2O5 phase can be used as a potential battery‐type component to construct high‐performance hybrid charge storage devices.  相似文献

The development of multivalent metal (such as Mg and Ca) based battery systems is hindered by lack of suitable cathode chemistry that shows reversible multi‐electron redox reactions. Cationic redox centres in the classical cathodes can only afford stepwise single‐electron transfer, which are not ideal for multivalent‐ion storage. The charge imbalance during multivalent ion insertion might lead to an additional kinetic barrier for ion mobility. Therefore, multivalent battery cathodes only exhibit slope‐like voltage profiles with insertion/extraction redox of less than one electron. Taking VS4 as a model material, reversible two‐electron redox with cationic–anionic contributions is verified in both rechargeable Mg batteries (RMBs) and rechargeable Ca batteries (RCBs). The corresponding cells exhibit high capacities of >300 mAh g?1 at a current density of 100 mA g?1 in both RMBs and RCBs, resulting in a high energy density of >300 Wh kg?1 for RMBs and >500 Wh kg?1 for RCBs. Mechanistic studies reveal a unique redox activity mainly at anionic sulfides moieties and fast Mg2+ ion diffusion kinetics enabled by the soft structure and flexible electron configuration of VS4.  相似文献

We report a new approach for nanosilicon–graphene hybrids with uniquely stable solid electrolyte interphase. Expanded graphite is gently exfoliated creating “defect‐free” graphene that is non‐catalytic towards electrolyte decomposition, simultaneously introducing high mass loading (48 wt. %) Si nanoparticles. Silane surface treatment creates epoxy chemical tethers, mechanically binding nano‐Si to CMC binder through epoxy ring‐opening reaction while stabilizing the Si surface chemistry. Epoxy‐tethered silicon pristine–graphene hybrid “E‐Si‐pG” exhibits state‐of‐the‐art performance in full battery opposing commercial mass loading (12 mg cm?2) LiCoO2 (LCO) cathode. At 0.4 C, with areal capacity of 1.62 mAh cm?2 and energy of 437 Wh kg?1, achieving 1.32 mAh cm?2, 340.4 Wh kg?1 at 1 C. After 150 cycles, it retains 1.25 mAh cm?2, 306.5 Wh kg?1. Sputter‐down XPS demonstrates survival of surface C‐Si‐O‐Si groups in E‐Si‐pG after repeated cycling. The discovered synergy between support defects, chemical‐mechanical stabilization of Si surfaces, and SEI‐related failure may become key LIB anode design rule.  相似文献

Porous carbons (PC) were prepared from a waste biomass named chestnut shell via a two‐step method involving carbonization and KOH activation. The morphology, pore structure and surface chemical properties were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2 sorption, Raman spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The carbons have been evaluated as the electrode materials for supercapacitors by a two‐electrode system in 6 mol/L KOH electrolyte. Benefiting from the porous texture, high surface area and high oxygen content, the PCs derived from chestnut shell have exhibited high specific capacitance of 198.2 (PC‐1), 217.2 (PC‐2) and 238.2 F·g?1 (PC‐3) at a current density of 0.1 A·g?1, good rate capability of 55.7%, 56.6% and 54.9% in a range of 0.1–20 A·g?1 and high energy density of 5.6, 6.1 and 6.7 Wh·kg?1, respectively. This is believed to be due to electric double layer capacitance induced by the abundant micropores and extra pseudo‐capacitance generated by oxygen‐containing groups. At a power density of 9000 Wh·kg?1, the energy density is 3.1, 3.5 and 3.7 Wh·kg?1 for PC‐1, PC‐2 and PC‐3, respectively, demonstrating the potential of the carbons derived from chestnut shells in energy storage devices.  相似文献

1,4‐Pentadien‐3‐one‐1,5‐bis(p‐hydroxyphenyl) (PBHP) was prepared by reacting p‐hydroxybenzaldehyde and acetone in the presence of an acid catalyst. 1,4‐Pentadiene‐3‐one‐1‐p‐hydroxyphenyl‐5‐p‐phenyl methacrylate (PHPPMA) monomer was prepared by reacting PBHP dissolved in ethyl methyl ketone (EMK) with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine. A free‐radical solution polymerization technique was used for synthesizing homo‐ and copolymers of different feed compositions of PHPPMA and ethyl acrylate (EA) in EMK as a solvent with benzoyl peroxide as a free‐radical initiator at 70 ± 1 °C. All the polymers were characterized with IR and 1H NMR techniques. The compositions of the copolymers were determined with the 1H NMR technique. The copolymer reactivity ratios were evolved with Kelen–Tudos (EA = 1.25 and PHPPMA = 0.09) and extended Kelen–Tudos (EA = 1.30 and PHPPMA = 0.09) methods. Q (0.48) and e (1.68) values for the new monomer (PHPPMA) were calculated with the Alfrey–Price method. UV absorption spectra for poly(PHPPMA) showed two absorption bands at 302 and 315 nm. The photocrosslinking properties of the polymer samples were examined with the solvent method. Thermal analyses of the polymers were performed with the thermogravimetric‐differential thermogravimetric technique. First, the decomposition temperatures started for poly(PHPPMA), copoly(EA‐PHPPMA) (62:38), and copoly(EA‐PHPPMA) (41:59) were at 350, 410, and 417 °C, respectively. A gel permeation chromatographic method was used for determining the polymer molecular weights (weight‐average molecular weight: 2.67 × 104 and number‐average molecular weight: 1.41 × 104) and polydispersity index (1.89). The solubility of the monomer and the copolymers occurred at 30 °C with solvents having different polarities. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The lithium–sulfur battery is an attractive option for next‐generation energy storage owing to its much higher theoretical energy density than state‐of‐the‐art lithium‐ion batteries. However, the massive volume changes of the sulfur cathode and the uncontrollable deposition of Li2S2/Li2S significantly deteriorate cycling life and increase voltage polarization. To address these challenges, we develop an ?‐caprolactam/acetamide based eutectic‐solvent electrolyte, which can dissolve all lithium polysulfides and lithium sulfide (Li2S8–Li2S). With this new electrolyte, high specific capacity (1360 mAh g?1) and reasonable cycling stability are achieved. Moreover, in contrast to conventional ether electrolyte with a low flash point (ca. 2 °C), such low‐cost eutectic‐solvent‐based electrolyte is difficult to ignite, and thus can dramatically enhance battery safety. This research provides a new approach to improving lithium–sulfur batteries in aspects of both safety and performance.  相似文献

Three‐dimensional, vertically aligned MnO/nitrogen‐doped graphene (3D MnO/N‐Gr) walls were prepared through facile solution‐phase synthesis followed by thermal treatment. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was strategically added to generate cross‐links to simultaneously form 3D wall structures and to incorporate nitrogen atoms into the graphene network. The unique wall features of the as‐prepared 3D MnO/N‐Gr hybirdes provide a large surface area (91.516 m2 g?1) and allow for rapid diffusion of the ion electrolyte, resulting in a high specific capacitance of 378 F g?1 at 0.25 A g?1 and an excellent charge/discharge stability (93.7 % capacity retention after 8000 cycles) in aqueous 1 m Na2SO4 solution as electrolyte. Moreover, the symmetric supercapacitors that were rationally designed by using 3D MnO/N‐Gr hybrids exhibit outstanding electrochemical performance in an organic electrolyte with an energy density of 90.6 Wh kg?1 and a power density of 437.5 W kg?1.  相似文献

Organosulfur compounds with multiple thiol groups are promising for high gravimetric energy density electrochemical energy storage. We have synthesized a poly(2,5‐dimercapto‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole) (PDMcT)/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) composite cathode for lithium‐ion batteries with a new method and investigated its electrochemical behavior by charge/discharge cycles and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in an ether‐based electrolyte. Based on a comparison of the electrochemical performance with a carbonate‐based electrolyte, we found a much higher discharge capacity, but also a very attractive cycling performance of PDMcT by using a tetra(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether (TEGDME)‐based electrolyte. The first discharge capacity of the as‐synthesized PDMcT/PEDOT composite approached 210 mAh g?1 in the TEGDME‐based electrolyte. CV results clearly show that the redox reactions of PDMcT are highly reversible in this TEGDME‐based electrolyte. The reversible capacity remained around 120 mAh g?1 after 20 charge/discharge cycles. With improved cycling performance and very low cost, PDMcT could become a very promising cathode material when combined with a TEGDME‐based electrolyte. The poor capacity in the carbonate‐based electrolyte is a consequence of the irreversible reaction of the DMcT monomer and dimer with the solvent, emphasizing the importance of electrolyte chemistry when studying molecular‐based battery materials.  相似文献

Rechargeable potassium–oxygen (K‐O2) batteries promise to provide higher round‐trip efficiency and cycle life than other alkali–oxygen batteries with satisfactory gravimetric energy density (935 Wh kg?1). Exploiting a strong electron‐donating solvent, for example, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) strongly stabilizes the discharge product (KO2), resulting in significant improvement in electrode kinetics and chemical/electrochemical reversibility. The first DMSO‐based K‐O2 battery demonstrates a much higher energy efficiency and stability than the glyme‐based electrolyte. A universal KO2 growth model is developed and it is demonstrated that the ideal solvent for K‐O2 batteries should strongly stabilize superoxide (strong donor ability) to obtain high electrode kinetics and reversibility while providing fast oxygen diffusion to achieve high discharge capacity. This work elucidates key electrolyte properties that control the efficiency and reversibility of K‐O2 batteries.  相似文献
