Two series of isostructural C3‐symmetric Ln3 complexes Ln3 ? [BPh4] and Ln3 ? 0.33[Ln(NO3)6] (in which LnIII=Gd and Dy) have been prepared from an amino‐bis(phenol) ligand. X‐ray studies reveal that LnIII ions are connected by one μ2‐phenoxo and two μ3‐methoxo bridges, thus leading to a hexagonal bipyramidal Ln3O5 bridging core in which LnIII ions exhibit a biaugmented trigonal‐prismatic geometry. Magnetic susceptibility studies and ab initio complete active space self‐consistent field (CASSCF) calculations indicate that the magnetic coupling between the DyIII ions, which possess a high axial anisotropy in the ground state, is very weakly antiferromagnetic and mainly dipolar in nature. To reduce the electronic repulsion from the coordinating oxygen atom with the shortest Dy?O distance, the local magnetic moments are oriented almost perpendicular to the Dy3 plane, thus leading to a paramagnetic ground state. CASSCF plus restricted active space state interaction (RASSI) calculations also show that the ground and first excited state of the DyIII ions are separated by approximately 150 and 177 cm?1, for Dy3 ? [BPh4] and Dy3 ? 0.33[Dy(NO3)6], respectively. As expected for these large energy gaps, Dy3 ? [BPh4] and Dy3 ? 0.33[Dy(NO3)6] exhibit, under zero direct‐current (dc) field, thermally activated slow relaxation of the magnetization, which overlap with a quantum tunneling relaxation process. Under an applied Hdc field of 1000 Oe, Dy3 ? [BPh4] exhibits two thermally activated processes with Ueff values of 34.7 and 19.5 cm?1, whereas Dy3 ? 0.33[Dy(NO3)6] shows only one activated process with Ueff=19.5 cm?1.  相似文献

By using the node‐and‐spacer approach in suitable solvents, four new heterotrimetallic 1D chain‐like compounds (that is, containing 3d–3d′–4f metal ions), {[Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)Fe(Tp*)(CN)3] ? 2 CH3CN ? CH3OH}n (H2L=N,N′‐bis(3‐methoxysalicylidene)‐1,3‐diaminopropane, Tp*=hydridotris(3,5‐dimethylpyrazol‐1‐yl)borate; Ln=Gd ( 1 ), Dy ( 2 ), Tb ( 3 ), Nd ( 4 )), have been synthesized and structurally characterized. All of these compounds are made up of a neutral cyanide‐ and phenolate‐bridged heterotrimetallic chain, with a {? Fe? C?N? Ni(? O? Ln)? N?C? }n repeat unit. Within these chains, each [(Tp*)Fe(CN)3]? entity binds to the NiII ion of the [Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]+ motif through two of its three cyanide groups in a cis mode, whereas each [Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]+ unit is linked to two [(Tp*)Fe(CN)3]? ions through the NiII ion in a trans mode. In the [Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]+ unit, the NiII and LnIII ions are bridged to one other through two phenolic oxygen atoms of the ligand (L). Compounds 1 – 4 are rare examples of 1D cyanide‐ and phenolate‐bridged 3d–3d′–4f helical chain compounds. As expected, strong ferromagnetic interactions are observed between neighboring FeIII and NiII ions through a cyanide bridge and between neighboring NiII and LnIII (except for NdIII) ions through two phenolate bridges. Further magnetic studies show that all of these compounds exhibit single‐chain magnetic behavior. Compound 2 exhibits the highest effective energy barrier (58.2 K) for the reversal of magnetization in 3d/4d/5d–4f heterotrimetallic single‐chain magnets.  相似文献

The D2h‐symmetric dinuclear complex anion [U2F12]2? of pastel green Sr[U2F12] shows a hitherto unknown structural feature: The coordination polyhedra around the U atoms are edge‐linked monocapped trigonal prisms, the UV atoms are therefore seven‐coordinated. This leads to a U–U distance of 3.8913(6) Å. A weak UV–UV interaction is observed for the dinuclear [U2F12]2? complex and described by the antiferromagnetic exchange Jexp of circa ?29.9 cm?1. The crystalline compound can be easily prepared from SrF2 and β‐UF5 in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (aHF) at room temperature. It was studied by means of single crystal X‐ray diffraction, IR, Raman and UV/VIS spectroscopy, magnetic measurements, and by molecular as well as by solid‐state quantum chemical calculations.  相似文献

Two new arene inverted‐sandwich complexes of uranium supported by siloxide ancillary ligands [K{U(OSi(OtBu)3)3}2(μ‐η66‐C7H8)] ( 3 ) and [K2{U(OSi(OtBu)3)3}2(μ‐η66‐C7H8)] ( 4 ) were synthesized by the reduction of the parent arene‐bridged complex [{U(OSi(OtBu)3)3}2(μ‐η66‐C7H8)] ( 2 ) with stoichiometric amounts of KC8 yielding a rare family of inverted‐sandwich complexes in three states of charge. The structural data and computational studies of the electronic structure are in agreement with the presence of high‐valent uranium centers bridged by a reduced tetra‐anionic toluene with the best formulation being UV–(arene4?)–UV, KUIV–(arene4?)–UV, and K2UIV–(arene4?)–UIV for complexes 2 , 3 , and 4 respectively. The potassium cations in complexes 3 and 4 are coordinated to the siloxide ligands both in the solid state and in solution. The addition of KOTf (OTf=triflate) to the neutral compound 2 promotes its disproportionation to yield complexes 3 and 4 (depending on the stoichiometry) and the UIV mononuclear complex [U(OSi(OtBu)3)3(OTf)(thf)2] ( 5 ). This unprecedented reactivity demonstrates the key role of potassium for the stability of these complexes.  相似文献

The structure of the title compound, [U(C14H9N3O2)O2(CH3OH)2]·CH3OH, is the first to be reported for an actinide complex including triazole ligands. The UVI atom exhibits a pentagonal–bipyramidal NO6 coordination environment, involving two axial oxide ligands [U=O = 1.766 (3) and 1.789 (3) Å], four equatorial O atoms [U—O = 2.269 (3)–2.448 (3) Å] from the ligand and the two coordinated methanol molecules, and one equatorial N atom [U—N = 2.513 (4) Å] from the ligand. In the crystal structure, the complex molecules are linked via intermolecular N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds to form a two‐dimensional structure.  相似文献

195Pt NMR chemical shifts of octahedral Pt(IV) complexes with general formula [Pt(NO3)n(OH)6 ? n]2?, [Pt(NO3)n(OH2)6 ? n]4 ? n (n = 1–6), and [Pt(NO3)6 ? n ? m(OH)m(OH2)n]?2 + n ? m formed by dissolution of platinic acid, H2[Pt(OH)6], in aqueous nitric acid solutions are calculated employing density functional theory methods. Particularly, the gauge‐including atomic orbitals (GIAO)‐PBE0/segmented all‐electron relativistically contracted–zeroth‐order regular approximation (SARC–ZORA)(Pt) ∪ 6–31G(d,p)(E)/Polarizable Continuum Model computational protocol performs the best. Excellent second‐order polynomial plots of δcalcd(195Pt) versus δexptl(195Pt) chemical shifts and δcalcd(195Pt) versus the natural atomic charge QPt are obtained. Despite of neglecting relativistic and spin orbit effects the good agreement of the calculated δ 195Pt chemical shifts with experimental values is probably because of the fact that the contribution of relativistic and spin orbit effects to computed σiso 195Pt magnetic shielding of Pt(IV) coordination compounds is effectively cancelled in the computed δ 195Pt chemical shifts, because the relativistic corrections are expected to be similar in the complexes and the proper reference standard used. To probe the counter‐ion effects on the 195Pt NMR chemical shifts of the anionic [Pt(NO3)n(OH)6 ? n]2? and cationic [Pt(NO3)n(OH2)6 ? n]4 ? n (n = 0–3) complexes we calculated the 195Pt NMR chemical shifts of the neutral (PyH)2[Pt(NO3)n(OH)6 ? n] (n = 1–6; PyH = pyridinium cation, C5H5NH+) and [Pt(NO3)n(H2O)6 ? n](NO3)4 ? n (n = 0–3) complexes. Counter‐anion effects are very important for the accurate prediction of the 195Pt NMR chemical shifts of the cationic [Pt(NO3)n(OH2)6 ? n]4 ? n complexes, while counter‐cation effects are less important for the anionic [Pt(NO3)n(OH)6 ? n]2? complexes. The simple computational protocol is easily implemented even by synthetic chemists in platinum coordination chemistry that dispose limited software availability, or locally existing routines and knowhow. Four isostructural [Ni2Ln2(CH3CO2)3(HL)4(H2O)2]3+(Ln3+=Dy ( 1 ), Tb ( 2 ), Ho ( 3 ) or Lu ( 4 )) complexes and a dinuclear [NiGd(HL)2(NO3)3] ( 5 ) complex are reported (where HL=2‐methoxy‐6‐[(E)‐2′‐hydroxymethyl‐phenyliminomethyl]‐phenolate). For compounds 1 – 3 and 5 , the Ni2+ ions are ferromagnetically coupled to the respective lanthanide ions. The ferromagnetic coupling in 1 suppresses the quantum tunnelling of magnetisation (QTM), resulting in a rare zero dc field Ni–Dy single‐molecule magnet, with an anisotropy barrier Ueff of 19 K.  相似文献

The hydrothermal reaction of 2,3‐pyridinedicarboxylic acid (2,3‐H2pda) with a mixture of Cd(NO3)2 and Ni(NO3)2 afforded a coordination polymer, [CdNi(2,3‐pda)2(H2O)3] ( 1 ); in contrast, that with a mixture of Cd(NO3)2 and Zn(NO3)2 surprisingly produced a discrete molecule, trans‐[Cd(3‐pa)2(H2O)4] ( 2 ) (3‐pa? = 3‐pyridinecarboxylate). Since a direct reaction between a single metal salt, Cd(NO3)2 or Zn(NO3)2, and 3‐pyridinecarboxylic acid (3‐Hpa) under similar hydrothermal conditions yielded different coordination polymers containing 3‐pa?, it appears that the apparently thermal decarboxylation from ligated 2,3‐pda2? to 3‐pa? occurs after complexation of both metal cations, Cd(II) and Zn(II). A new coordination mode, formed for 2,3‐pda2? in structure 1 , appears to help formation of microporous channels by piling up the observed 2D hydrogen‐bonded heteropolynuclear layers. Each channel apparently consists of two interpenetrating 63 Cd(II) and Ni(II) nets.  相似文献

The reaction of lanthanide(III) nitrates with 4‐(pyridin‐2‐yl)methyleneamino‐1,2,4‐triazole (L) was studied. The compounds [Ln(NO3)3(H2O)3] ? 2 L, in which Ln=Eu ( 1 ), Gd ( 2 ), Tb ( 3 ), or Dy ( 4 ), obtained in a mixture of MeCN/EtOH have the same structure, as shown by XRD. In the crystals of these compounds, the mononuclear complex units [Ln(NO3)3(H2O)3] are linked to L molecules through intermolecular hydrogen‐bonding interactions to form a 2D polymeric supramolecular architecture. An investigation into the optical characteristics of the Eu3+‐, Tb3+‐, and Dy3+‐containing compounds ( 1 , 3 , and 4 ) showed that these complexes displayed metal‐centered luminescence. According to magnetic measurements, compound 4 exhibits single‐ion magnet behavior, with ΔEeff/kB=86 K in a field of 1500 Oe.  相似文献

Reaction of [U(TrenTIPS)(THF)][BPh4] ( 1 ; TrenTIPS=N{CH2CH2NSi(iPr)3}3) with NaPH2 afforded the novel f‐block terminal parent phosphide complex [U(TrenTIPS)(PH2)] ( 2 ; U–P=2.883(2) Å). Treatment of 2 with one equivalent of KCH2C6H5 and two equivalents of benzo‐15‐crown‐5 ether (B15C5) afforded the unprecedented metal‐stabilized terminal parent phosphinidene complex [U(TrenTIPS)(PH)][K(B15C5)2] ( 4 ; U?P=2.613(2) Å). DFT calculations reveal a polarized‐covalent U?P bond with a Mayer bond order of 1.92.  相似文献

Sequential reaction of a multisite LH4 ligand {2‐[2‐hydroxy‐3‐(hydroxymethyl)‐5‐methylbenzylideneamino]‐2‐methylpropane‐1,3‐diol} with appropriate lanthanide salts followed by the addition of Ni(NO3)2 ? 6 H2O in a 4:1:2 stoichiometric ratio in the presence of triethylamine afforded four heterobimetallic trinuclear complexes [Ni2Gd(LH3)4] ? 3 NO3 ? 3 MeOH ? H2O ? CH3CN ( 1 ), [Ni2Tb(LH3)4] ? 3 NO3 ? 3 MeOH ? CH3CN ( 2 ), [Ni2Dy(LH3)4] ? 3 NO3 ? 3 MeOH ? H2O ? CH3CN ( 3 ), and [Ni2Ho(LH3)4] ? 3 NO3 ? 3 MeOH ? H2O ? CH3CN ( 4 ). Complexes 1 – 4 possess linear trimetallic cores with a central lanthanide ion. Magnetic studies revealed a predominant ferromagnetic interaction between the Ni and Ln centers. Alternating current susceptibility measurements of complex 3 showed a small frequency dependence of the out‐of‐phase signal, χ′′M , under zero direct current field, but without achieving a net maximum above 2 K. Magnetic studies on 1 revealed that it has a significant magnetocaloric effect.  相似文献

Template‐assisted formation of multicomponent Pd6 coordination prisms and formation of their self‐templated triply interlocked Pd12 analogues in the absence of an external template have been established in a single step through Pd? N/Pd? O coordination. Treatment of cis‐[Pd(en)(NO3)2] with K3tma and linear pillar 4,4′‐bpy (en=ethylenediamine, H3tma=benzene‐1,3,5‐tricarboxylic acid, 4,4′‐bpy=4,4′‐bipyridine) gave intercalated coordination cage [{Pd(en)}6(bpy)3(tma)2]2[NO3]12 ( 1 ) exclusively, whereas the same reaction in the presence of H3tma as an aromatic guest gave a H3tma‐encapsulating non‐interlocked discrete Pd6 molecular prism [{Pd(en)}6(bpy)3(tma)2(H3tma)2][NO3]6 ( 2 ). Though the same reaction using cis‐[Pd(NO3)2(pn)] (pn=propane‐1,2‐diamine) instead of cis‐[Pd(en)(NO3)2] gave triply interlocked coordination cage [{Pd(pn)}6(bpy)3(tma)2]2[NO3]12 ( 3 ) along with non‐interlocked Pd6 analogue [{Pd(pn)}6(bpy)3(tma)2](NO3)6 ( 3′ ), and the presence of H3tma as a guest gave H3tma‐encapsulating molecular prism [{Pd(pn)}6(bpy)3(tma)2(H3tma)2][NO3]6 ( 4 ) exclusively. In solution, the amount of 3′ decreases as the temperature is decreased, and in the solid state 3 is the sole product. Notably, an analogous reaction using the relatively short pillar pz (pz=pyrazine) instead of 4,4′‐bpy gave triply interlocked coordination cage [{Pd(pn)}6(pz)3(tma)2]2[NO3]12 ( 5 ) as the single product. Interestingly, the same reaction using slightly more bulky cis‐[Pd(NO3)2(tmen)] (tmen=N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylene diamine) instead of cis‐[Pd(NO3)2(pn)] gave non‐interlocked [{Pd(tmen)}6(pz)3(tma)2][NO3]6 ( 6 ) exclusively. Complexes 1 , 3 , and 5 represent the first examples of template‐free triply interlocked molecular prisms obtained through multicomponent self‐assembly. Formation of the complexes was supported by IR and multinuclear NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopy. Formation of guest‐encapsulating complexes ( 2 and 4 ) was confirmed by 2D DOSY and ROESY NMR spectroscopic analyses, whereas for complexes 1 , 3 , 5 , and 6 single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction techniques unambiguously confirmed their formation. The gross geometries of H3tma‐encapsulating complexes 2 and 4 were obtained by universal force field (UFF) simulations.  相似文献

The phenylimidorhenium(V) complexes [Re(NPh)X3(PPh3)2] (X = Cl, Br) react with the N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) 1,3‐diethyl‐4,5‐dimethylimidazole‐2‐ylidene (LEt) under formation of the stable rhenium(V) complex cations [Re(NPh)X(LEt)4]2+ (X = Cl, Br), which can be isolated as their chloride or [PF6]? salts. The compounds are remarkably stable against air, moisture and ligand exchange. The hydroxo species [Re(NPh)(OH)(LEt)4]2+ is formed when moist solvents are used during the synthesis. The rhenium atoms in all three complexes are coordinated in a distorted octahedral fashion with the four NHC ligands in equatorial planes of the molecules. The Re–C(carbene) bond lengths between 2.171(8) and 2.221(3) Å indicate mainly σ‐bonding between the NHC ligand and the electron deficient d2 metal atoms. Attempts to prepare analogous phenylimido complexes from [Re(NPh)Cl3(PPh3)2] and 1,3‐diisopropyl‐4,5‐dimethylimidazole‐2‐ylidene (Li?Pr) led to a cleavage of the rhenium‐nitrogen multiple bond and the formation of the dioxo complex [ReO2(Li?Pr)4]+.  相似文献

From the reaction of uranium hexafluoride UF6 with dry liquid ammonia, the [UF7(NH3)]3? anion and the [UF4(NH3)4] molecule were isolated and identified for the first time. They are found in signal‐green crystals of trisammonium monoammine heptafluorouranate(IV) ammonia (1:1; [NH4]3[UF7(NH3)] ? NH3) and emerald‐green crystals of tetraammine tetrafluorouranium(IV) ammonia (1:1; [UF4(NH3)4] ? NH3). [NH4]3[UF7(NH3)] ? NH3 features discrete [UF7(NH3)]3? anions with a coordination geometry similar to a bicapped trigonal prism, hitherto unknown for UIV compounds. The emerald‐green [UF4(NH3)4] ? NH3 contains discrete tetraammine tetrafluorouranium(IV) [UF4(NH3)4] molecules. [UF4(NH3)4] ? NH3 is not stable at room temperature and forms pastel‐green [UF4(NH3)4] as a powder that is surprisingly stable up to 147 °C. The compounds are the first structurally characterized ammonia complexes of uranium fluorides.  相似文献

Reaction of [U{C(SiMe3)(PPh2)}(BIPM)(μ‐Cl)Li(TMEDA)(μ‐TMEDA)0.5]2 (BIPM=C(PPh2NSiMe3)2; TMEDA=Me2NCH2CH2NMe2) with [Rh(μ‐Cl)(COD)]2 (COD=cyclooctadiene) affords the heterotrimetallic UIV?RhI2 complex [U(Cl)2{C(PPh2NSiMe3)(PPh[C6H4]NSiMe3)}{Rh(COD)}{Rh(CH(SiMe3)(PPh2)}]. This complex has a very short uranium–rhodium distance, the shortest uranium–rhodium bond on record and the shortest actinide–transition metal bond in terms of formal shortness ratio. Quantum‐chemical calculations reveal a remarkable Rh UIV net double dative bond interaction, involving RhI 4d ‐ and 4dxy/xz‐type donation into vacant UIV 5f orbitals, resulting in a Wiberg/Nalewajski–Mrozek U?Rh bond order of 1.30/1.44, respectively. Despite being, formally, purely dative, the uranium–rhodium bonding interaction is the most substantial actinide–metal multiple bond yet prepared under conventional experimental conditions, as confirmed by structural, magnetic, and computational analyses.  相似文献

Despite there being numerous examples of f‐element compounds supported by cyclopentadienyl, arene, cycloheptatrienyl, and cyclooctatetraenyl ligands (C5–8), cyclobutadienyl (C4) complexes remain exceedingly rare. Here, we report that reaction of [Li2{C4(SiMe3)4}(THF)2] ( 1 ) with [U(BH4)3(THF)2] ( 2 ) gives the pianostool complex [U{C4(SiMe3)4}(BH4)3][Li(THF)4] ( 3 ), where use of a borohydride and preformed C4‐unit circumvents difficulties in product isolation and closing a C4‐ring at uranium. Complex 3 is an unprecedented example of an f‐element half‐sandwich cyclobutadienyl complex, and it is only the second example of an actinide‐cyclobutadienyl complex, the other being an inverse‐sandwich. The U?C distances are short (av. 2.513 Å), reflecting the formal 2? charge of the C4‐unit, and the SiMe3 groups are displaced from the C4‐plane, which we propose maximises U?C4 orbital overlap. DFT calculations identify two quasi‐degenerate U?C4 π‐bonds utilising the ψ2 and ψ3 molecular orbitals of the C4‐unit, but the potential δ‐bond using the ψ4 orbital is vacant.  相似文献

Herein, a unique coordination system that exhibits multiple chiral inversions and molecular dimerization in response to a subtle pH change is reported. Treatment of (Δ)2‐H3[Au3Co2(L ‐cys)6] (H3[ 1 a ]) with [Co3(aet)6](NO3)3 (aet=2‐aminoethanethiolate) in water at pH 7 gave a 1:1 complex salt of [Co3(aet)6]3+ and [ 1 a ]3?, retaining the AuI3CoIII2 structure and chiral configurations of [ 1 a ]3?. Similar treatment at pH 9 led to not only the inversion of all of the chiral CoIII and S centers but also the dimerization of [ 1 a ]3?, giving a 2:1 complex salt of [Co3(aet)6]3+ and (Λ)4(R)12‐[Au6Co4(L ‐cys)12]6? ([ 2 ]6?). When dissociated from [Co3(aet)6]3+ in solution, [ 2 ]6? was converted to (Λ)2(R)6‐[Au3Co2(L ‐cys)6]3? ([ 1 b ]3?) with retention of the chiral configurations.  相似文献

Homoleptic perhalophenyl derivatives of divalent nickel complexes with the general formula [NBu4]2[NiII (C6X5)4] [X=F ( 1 ), Cl ( 2 )] have been prepared by low‐temperature treatment of the halo‐complex precursor [NBu4]2[NiBr4] with the corresponding organolithium reagent LiC6X5. Compounds 1 and 2 are electrochemically related by reversible one‐electron exchange processes with the corresponding organometallate(III) compounds [NBu4][NiIII (C6X5)4] [X=F ( 3 ), Cl ( 4 )]. The potentials of the [NiIII (C6X5)4]?/[NiII (C6X5)4]2? couples are +0.07 and ?0.11 V for X=F or Cl, respectively. Compounds 3 and 4 have also been prepared and isolated in good yield by chemical oxidation of 1 or 2 with bromine or the amminium salt [N(C6H4Br‐4)3][SbCl6]. The [NiIII (C6X5)4]? species have SP‐4 structures in the salts 3 and 4 , as established by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction methods. The [NiII (C6F5)4]2? ion in the parent compound 1 has also been found to exhibit a rather similar SP‐4 structure. According to their SP‐4 geometry, the NiIII compounds (d7) behave as S=1/2 systems both at microscopic (EPR) and macroscopic levels (ac and dc magnetization measurements). The spin Hamiltonian parameters obtained from the analysis of the magnetic behavior of 3 and 4 within the framework of ligand field theory show that the unpaired electron is centered mainly on the metal atom, with >97 % estimated d contribution. Thermal decomposition of 3 and 4 proceeds with formation of the corresponding C6X5? C6X5 coupling compounds.  相似文献

Pseudoelement Compounds. XI. [1] Investigations on the Coordination Behaviour of Cyanamidonitrate [NO2NCN]? With the ionic, potentially ambidentate ligand cyanamidonitrate complexes of the types [MX(PPh3)3], [MX(PPh3)2]2 (M?CuI, AgI) and trans-[Pt(H)X(PPh3)2] (X??[NO2NCN]?) are introduced. The new compounds are characterized by 1H NMR, 31P NMR, and IR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of [Cu(NO2NCN)(PPh3)2]2 and [Ag(NO2NCN)(PPh3)2]2 are reported. In the complexes [MX(PPh3)3] and trans-[Pt(H)X(PPh3)2] cyanamidonitrate is unidentately coordinated through the nitrile group end-on. In the dimeric complexes [MX(PPh3)2]2 the anion acts bidentately as a bridging ligand. Surprisingly, both coordinative bonds are formed through nitrogen atoms of the NCN group.  相似文献

Nanoscale uranyl peroxide clusters containing UO22+ groups bonded through peroxide bridges to form polynuclear molecular species (polyoxometalates) exist both in solution and in the solid state. There is an extensive family of clusters containing 28 uranium atoms (U28 clusters), with an encapsulated anion in the center, for example, [UO2(O2)3?x(OH)x4?], [Nb(O2)43?], or [Ta(O2)43?]. The negative charge of these clusters is balanced by alkali ions, both encapsulated, and located exterior to the cluster. The present study reports measurement of enthalpy of formation for two such U28 compounds, one of which is uranyl centered and the other is peroxotantalate centered. The [(Ta(O2)4]‐centered U28 capsule is energetically more stable than the [(UO2)(O2)3]‐centered capsule. These data, along with our prior studies on other uranyl–peroxide solids, are used to explore the energy landscape and define thermochemical trends in alkali–uranyl–peroxide systems. It was suggested that the energetic role of charge‐balancing alkali ions and their electrostatic interactions with the negatively charged uranyl–peroxide species is the dominant factor in defining energetic stability. These experimental data were supported by DFT calculations, which agree that the [(Ta(O2)4]‐centered U28 capsule is more stable than the uranyl‐centered capsule. Moreover, the relative stability is controlled by the interactions of the encapsulated alkalis with the encapsulated anion. Thus, the role of alkali‐anion interactions was shown to be important at all length scales of uranyl–peroxide species: in both comparing clusters to clusters; and clusters to monomers or extended solids.  相似文献
