It is shown that multiple scattering of polarized light in a turbid medium can be represented as independent propagation of three basic modes: intensity and linearly and circularly polarized modes. Weak interaction between the basic modes can be described by perturbation theory and gives rise to “overtones” (additional polarization modes). Transport equations for the basic and additional modes are derived from a vector radiative transfer equation. Analytical solutions to these equations are found in the practically important cases of diffusive light propagation and small-angle multiple scattering. The results obtained are in good agreement with experimental and numerical results and provide an explanation for the experimentally observed difference in depolarization between linearly and circularly polarized waves.  相似文献

A consistent quantum theory of self-action and cross-interaction of coherent light pulses in a cubically nonlinear medium is developed by using the momentum operator of the field, which takes into account the inertial nonlinearity. Specific features of generation of the quadrature-squeezed states of light pulses are considered. The spectrum of fluctuations of a quadrature below the shot-noise level is analyzed as a function of the relaxation time of nonlinearity and the magnitude of nonlinear phase additions, related to the self-action and cross-interaction.  相似文献

Nonclassical polarization properties of a quantum field propagating through non-Kolmogorov turbulence are studied in a turbulent atmosphere paraxial channel. The analytic equation for the quantum degree of polarization of linearly polarized light is obtained. It is shown by numerical simulation that the polarization fluctuations of the quantum field are a function of the turbulent strength, the photon number, the propagation distance, the fractal constant α and the coherence length ρ0.  相似文献

Approximate analytical expressions for the intensities of the polarized components of light reflected from a disordered medium with large discrete particles (larger than the wavelength) have been derived with the use of the method of decoupling of the vector transfer equation that is based on separate treatment of basic and additional polarization modes. The results obtained provide the relation between the peak shape in the angular distribution of the backscattered radiation with a given polarization and the optical characteristics of the medium and are in good agreement with experimental data and numerical calculations.  相似文献

应用偏振光的量子理论和斯托克斯算符研究了无克尔媒质和存在克尔媒质情况下,光在与原子相互作用过程中偏振态的演化.研究了偏振光中斯托克斯参量的涨落及其压缩的非经典行为.偏振椭圆、量子光学中的偏振度和斯托克斯参量的信噪比也得到了讨论.结果表明斯托克斯参量及其涨落在时间演化中呈现出被调制的振荡,这些振荡表现出间歇地崩塌和恢复.在与原子的相互作用过程中,光的偏振椭圆不随时间变化,但偏振度却随时间出现振荡.克尔媒质对这些振荡演化有很大影响. 关键词: 斯托克斯算符 斯托克斯参量 量子偏振态 量子涨落  相似文献

The polarization properties of a monochromatic beam of light are ordinarily determined by three numbers, for example, the Stokes parameters. However, three numbers are no longer sufficient when intensity fluctuations in the polarized modes (or the correlation between them) are recorded. It is shown that in this case nine parameters, which can be arranged into 3×3 matrices, must be prescribed. The transformation properties of these matrices under polarization converters and the invariants of the matrices are analyzed. Specifically, the fourth-order polarization P 4 is introduced. Several examples are examined of light with “hidden” polarization—light which is not polarized in the ordinary sense (P 2=0) but is polarized in fourth order (P 4≠0)—as well as “polarization-squeezed” light in which the quantum fluctuations of the Stokes parameters are suppressed. It is shown that a lateral pressure applied to a circular single-mode optical waveguide changes the phase difference between two orthogonally polarized modes and thereby modulates the polarization state of light (elastooptic effect). The efficiency of polarization modulation is characterized by a strain-to-phase difference conversion factor as applied to polarization modes of the fiber. An expression relating the phase difference between the modes and the displacement of squeezing plates is obtained and checked in real experiments and numerically. The efficiency of conversion of lateral pressure to phase difference between the polarization modes is shown to be fairly high, on the order of 104 rad/(μm m).  相似文献

Quantum fluctuations of the fields for three-wave mixing in photorefractive media with drift nonlinearity and nonlocal response are investigated, using a semiclassical input-output theory. It is shown that quantum cor relation and anticorrelation among the three modes will change according to the relative intensity ratio and the direction of energy transfer between the signal and reference modes. The fluctuations in the intensity difference of the two signal modes can be reduced below the corresponding shot-noise level.  相似文献

Optical properties of cholesteric liquid crystals with a pitch larger than the wavelength of light are considered. Normal waves of the medium and the Green function of the electromagnetic field are analyzed. A general algorithm based on the application of the Kirchhoff method is proposed for calculating the scattered light intensity in media with a one-dimensional periodic structure. The WKB vector method is used for calculating the spatial correlation function of thermal fluctuations of the director. It is found that the transformation of two fluctuation modes takes place is some regions. The angular and polarization dependences of the intensity of light scattered from fluctuations of the director are calculated. It is found, in particular, that the intensity of scattering is a nonmonotonic function of the size of the system.  相似文献

A double quantum well affected by external alternating electric field with in- and out-of-plane components is studied. This field causes transitions between near-degenerate states located in different wells. The phototransitions are accompanied by the in-plane momentum nonconservation caused by the impurity scattering. We study the in-plane stationary current due to the lack of the in-plane symmetry of these indirect phototransitions. It is shown that the value and direction of the current are determined by the polarization of light. The linear and circular photogalvanic coefficients are found. When the photon energy approaches the distance between subbands these coefficients have their symmetric and antisymmetric resonance behaviors, respectively.  相似文献

A solid state quantum circuit where an ensemble of self-assembled quantum dots in a microdisk cavity served as long-lived quantum light memory, is investigated. It is shown that via laser coupling Raman process, the coherent transfer between the light field (qubits) and the ensemble spin states of the quantum dots can be efficient and fast. The coherence properties of the system are analyzed, which enables us to obtain a long coherence time.  相似文献

We demonstrate circularly polarized light emission from InAs quantum dots embedded in the waveguide region of a GaAs-based chiral nanostructure. The observed phenomenon originates due to a strong imbalance between left- and right-circularly polarized components of the vacuum field and results in a degree of polarization as high as 26% at room temperature. A strong circular anisotropy of the vacuum field modes inside the chiral nanostructure is visualized using numerical simulation. The results of the simulation agree well with experimental results.  相似文献

We consider the conditions of interference of totally polarized light beams of arbitrary polarization that allow one to measure their vector characteristics by means of optical heterodyning. It is shown that the intensity of a light beam resulted from the superposition of two plane totally polarized waves with arbitrary polarizations represents a sum of two interference patterns, each of them being the result of superposition of conamed components of an orthogonal expansion of the electric field of the total light wave. The possibility of electronic registration of information in real time is demonstrated.  相似文献

The polarization fluctuations of single-photon beam propagation through the slant path turbulent atmosphere are studied. The Stokes operators and the degree of polarization of single-photon beam in a turbulent atmosphere are obtained. It is shown by analytical calculations, that the quantum degree of polarization of linearly polarization light is a decrease function of the atmospheric turbulence strength and the propagation distance for lower detection photon number.  相似文献

Absorption of electromagnetic radiation by 2D electrons at the surface of a quantum sphere placed in a weak magnetic field is studied. It is shown that at low temperatures, the absorption curve exhibits four resonance peaks observed in the Faraday geometry (photon wave vector parallel to the magnetic field) and six peaks in the Voigt geometry (photon wave vector perpendicular to the magnetic field). In the particular case of the Voigt geometry, where the photon polarization vector is parallel to the magnetic field, the absorption curve exhibits only two resonance peaks. The shape, position, and intensity of the peaks are examined. It is shown that at temperatures close to zero, steps of two types appear in the absorption curve. One type of steps is associated with crossing of the μ-?ω level by the electron energy levels, while steps of the other type arise when electron energy levels cross the chemical potential μ.  相似文献

连续变量纠缠态由于其确定性产生、高效率的特点而被广泛应用于连续变量量子信息处理.在量子信息处理过程中纠缠态与量子信道发生相互作用而退相干,这是限制长距离量子信息发展的重要因素之一.光纤信道作为理想的量子信道,是目前连续变量量子信息研究关注的热点.本文利用Ⅱ类匹配的楔角极化磷酸氧钛钾晶体构成了三共振的非简并光学参量放大器,获得了8.3 dB的光通信波段1.5μm连续变量纠缠态光场.将产生的纠缠态光场注入单模光纤,其量子特性在传输距离达50 km后仍得到保持,纠缠度为0.21dB.该研究可为基于光纤的长距离连续变量量子信息研究提供有效的依据.  相似文献

A comparison of differently polarized Bessel vortex beams propagating through a uniaxial anisotropic slab is discussed in terms of the vector wave function expansions.The magnitude profiles of electric field components, the transformation of polarization modes, and the distributions of orbital angular momentum(OAM) states of the reflected and transmitted beams for different incident angles are numerically simulated.The results indicate that the magnitude profiles of electric field components for different polarization modes are distinct from each other and have a great dependence on the incident angle,thus the transformation of polarization modes which reflects the change of energy can be affected largely.As compared to the x and circular polarization incidences, the reflected and transmitted beams for the radial polarization incidence suffer the fewest transformation of polarization modes, showing a better energy invariance.The distributions of OAM states of the reflected and transmitted beams for different polarization modes are diverse as well, and the derived OAM states of the transmitted beam for radial polarization present a focusing effect, concentrating on the state between two predominant OAM states.  相似文献

Generalized Stokes vectors consisting of nine real parameters in terms of irreducible spherical and Cartesian tensor operators are considered to describe the 3D electromagnetic field. Vector and tensor polarization degrees are introduced to characterize the polarized beam. It is shown that the degree of a pure vector polarized light beam is less than 1, i.e., vector polarized light beam is only partially polarized. The geometrical interpretation of vector and tensor polarizations is presented.  相似文献
