This article analyzes the characteristics of single-mode fiber (SMF) components using graded-index-rod (GRIN-rod) lenses. The coupling efficiency of the SMF to GRIN-rod lens to SMF coupling system is derived in the general case. The problem is simplified by using the reciprocal field method. All solutions are in closed form. It is found that SMF position tolerance is about 3 μm; the angular tolerance is about 1°. The GRIN-rod lens position tolerance is much less critical while the angular tolerance is extremely small. These tolerances could be much less critical if the fiber is kept near the GRIN-rod lens axis.  相似文献

An optical fiber multi-function device consisting of a single gradient-index-rod lens and a multi-facet blazed reflection grating is proposed to simultaneously realize functions of wavelength demultiplexing and optical signal distribution in a multimode optical fiber transmission system. We analyzed the demultiplexing characteristics and the tolerance of optical components using the ray trace method. This device can realize not only low loss optical signal distribution but also offers improved demultiplexing characteristics in comparison with the previously proposed demultiplexer-multiposition switch. The following characteristics are expected from the design using commercially available optical components: a working band of 0.64–0.88 μm, channel separation of 34–36 nm, 3 dB bandwidth of 27–28 nm, channel cross-talk of less than - 40 dB and minimum excess insertion loss of 0.9–2.1 dB.  相似文献

A novel 0.98/1.55 μm dichroic coupler with high-extinction ratio and low insertion loss has been designed and implemented on LiNbO3 for Erbium-doped fiber amplifier applications. The design of dichroic coupler is based on a modified directional coupler structure with a single bend in each channel. Beam propagation method is used to analyze the coupler performance to get the optimal parameters for device design, such as channel width, titanium thickness, channel gap, and interaction length. Samples with the signal coupling ratio as high as 100% and pumping power ratio as high as 95% have been obtained.  相似文献

The power handling capability of high temperature superconducting (HTS) filters is limited due to current concentration at the edges of the superconducting films. This problem can be overcome by using ring resonator, which employs the edge current free and reduces the current concentration. However, this kind of filter has large size. In order to reduce the cost and size and increase the power handling capability, in this paper a HTS photonic bandgap (PBG) structure filter is developed. The proposed pass band filter with PBG structure exhibits center frequency 12.23 GHz, steepness (about 35 dB/GHz), bandwidth (−3 dB bandwidth is 0.045 GHz), and low insertion loss (about −0.5 dB), and can handle input power up to 1 W (this value was limited by the measurement instrument used in the experiment). The size is reduced by 25%, insertion loss reduced by 37.5%, and steeper roll-off of the filter is also obtained compared with that in published literature.  相似文献

提出了一种基于单准直透镜和光纤阵列的阵列准直器, 深入研究了此种方案的光路无胶和光路有胶的两种实现方式; 并基于高斯光束传输矩阵和q参数相关理论, 从理论上详细地计算、推导了各变量之间的关系, 并进行了模拟仿真及实验验证, 得到了理论和实验一致的结果. 对两种实现方式的结构及封装设计也进行了初步的摸索和实验, 并制作出了性能良好的阵列准直器. 理论和实验表明, 该方案具有易加工、低成本、易封装、性能优等特点, 也易于扩展成多维阵列准直器, 可为可重构光分插复用器系统和光交叉连接系统的发展提供强有力的器件支撑.  相似文献

We investigated the insertion and return losses of optical fiber connections with various air-filled gaps. Such gaps might occur when a fiber connection using physical contact unexpectedly fails, resulting in imperfect physical contact. The optical performance of these fiber connections depends on wavelength and gap size. We revealed that the measured optical performance of fiber connections with an imperfect physical contact, i.e., with an air-filled gap, might deteriorate to ~18 dB for insertion loss and 9.4 dB for return loss at worst.  相似文献

双尾纤相对位置的装配精度直接影响保偏双光纤准直器的保偏性能。研究和分析了双尾纤的装配精度对保偏准直器保偏性能的影响,并指出双尾纤端面"猫眼"的垂直度是主要影响因素。提出了一种保偏双尾纤装配精度的检测方法,检测系统主要由CCD摄像机、显微镜、图像采集卡和VC开发的检测处理软件等构成。还对系统中保偏双尾纤端面图像获取及图像预处理、检测光心"猫眼"坐标位置所采用的算法及"猫眼"垂直度的检测模型进行阐述,该系统检测精度优于0.5°。  相似文献

Structural model and design technique are proposed for a polymer directional coupler electro-optic switch with rib waveguides and push-pull electrodes, of which the electric field distribution is analyzed by the conformal transforming method and image method. In order to get the minimum mode loss and the minimum switching voltage, the parameters of the waveguide and electrode are optimized, such as the core with, core thickness, buffer layer between the core and the electrode, coupling gap between the waveguides, electrode thickness, electrode width and electrode gap. Switching Characteristics are analyzed, which include the output power, insertion loss, and crosstalk. To realize normal switching function, the fabrication error, spectrum shift, and coupling loss between a single mode fiber (SMF) and the waveguide are discussed. Simulation results show that the coupling length is 3082 μm, push-pull switching voltage is 2.14 V, insertion loss is less than 1.17 dB, and crosstalk is less than −30 dB for the designed device.  相似文献

The paper presents novel concepts of batch fabrication of micro-ball lens array technology integrated on the silicon-based wafer which can improve the appropriate distance for optical fiber coupling. The silicon-based optical coupling platform consists of a self-parking framework (including flat-topped mesa and intersection of two v-grooves) and micro-ball lens array for optical fiber coupling purposes. The structure of optical coupling platform is able to improve the distance between fiber and micro-ball lens and to increase coupling efficiency. Optical measurement reveals an insertion loss below 2.5 dB with wavelength 635 nm in singlemode fiber. The micro-ball lens array is batch fabricated by polymeric material and thick photoresist, and then bonded onto a flat-topped mesa that adjoins to the v-groove. The corner compensation offers a method to fabricate the flat-topped mesa in the intersection of two v-grooves. This fabrication process not only provides accurate coupling distance between fibers and micro-ball lens, but also reduces micro-assembly cost.This paper was originally presented at the 2001 International Conference (2nd Joint OSJ-SPIE Conference) on Optical Engineering for Sensing and Nanotechnology, ICOSN 2001 which was held June 6-8, 2001 at the Pacifico-Yokohama Conference Center, Yokohama, Japan.  相似文献

Fiber devices using polarization-maintaining fibers called PANDA fibers are presented. They are polarization-maintaining couplers and polarization-splitting couplers, optical isolators and optical circulators, and multi/demultiplexers designed for 1.3 μm wavelength. Crosstalk of-32 dB and excess loss of 0.03 dB for the polarization-maintaining coupler, and polarization-splitting ratio of 17 dB and excess loss of 0.5 dB for the polarization-splitting coupler have been fabricated by a fusion-elongation method. A fiber polarizer with the extinction ratio of more than 40 dB has been presented by using the difference of bending loss between the orthogonal modes in the PANDA fibers. Multi/demultiplexer with narrow band-pass of 1.4 nm utilizing combination of PANDA fiber polarization dispersion and the polarization-splitting coupler has been realized. An optical isolator consisting of fiber polarizers and a spherical YIG with a lens function and an optical circulator consisting of polarizing-splitting couplers and spherical YIGs have been achieved.  相似文献

Mode-matching and effective index methods are used to analyze single-mode operation of optical rib polymer waveguides. Their single-mode waveguiding conditions are determined. Single-mode rib waveguides fabricated from guest–host polyetherketone are presented. The estimated propagation loss of straight rib-waveguides is 0.7 dB/cm at 1.55 μm. Furthermore, by using the mode field-transfer matrix method, 2×2 and 4×4 polymer Mach–Zehnder interference switch operating at 1.55 μm wavelength has been designed based on optical multi-mode interference.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a novel interferometric technique for 3-D displacement measurement. The method is based on the analysis of the phase difference distribution measured when two coherent curved wavefronts originating from different locations interfere. Both the in-plane and out-of-plane displacements are found simultaneously from a single phase difference distribution. We find that our system could measure with an accuracy better than 1.5 μm for in-plane displacements and 36 μm for out-of-plane displacements over 1 mm range. This accuracy was limited by the output lens performance. Theoretical analysis reveals that sub-micron accuracy may be possible with more careful calibration.  相似文献

对光电子器件激光封装中光纤准直器的热致角度偏移进行了实验研究和理论分析.设计了一种新型的拱形焊接支承架,并对其热稳定性进行了测试.测试结果表明,在加载十个连续的温度循环周期后,其角度偏移为0.01°,而在同样的测试条件下,传统的鞍形支承架的角度偏移达到0.023°.采用非线性热—应力耦合有限元模型对封装结构中热应力的变化、残余应力的分布以及准直器角度偏移进行分析.理论分析结果与实验结果极好地吻合.进一步的理论计算得到新型拱形支承架的饱和热致角度偏移为0.043°,与传统鞍形支承架的0.065°相比得到了较大的降低.  相似文献

In this paper, we present our experimental study on the optical alignment tolerance between the couplings of single-mode fibers (SMFs) connected with a double-side irradiation-induced self-written waveguide (SWW). The study firstly focuses on the coupling of two SMFs and then on the two fiber arrays (FAs) for parallel optical communication. The SWW was formed in dye-dispersed epoxy materials by the photopolymerization technique. Rhodamine 6G dye was dispersed in epoxy, which is commonly used in the photonic packaging industry as a bonding adhesive. Using double-side irradiated SWW, we found the alignment tolerance for such optical interconnect to relax significantly. All the formed SWWs were evaluated in terms of optical loss. In our study, up to 4 µm misalignment tolerance was allowed for only 1 dB loss penalty. In addition, the optical interconnect formed by this technique was also able to tolerate up to ± 10 µm lateral shift with only 1 dB extra loss. The wavelength-dependent loss (from 1520 to 1610 nm) and polarization-dependent loss were less than 0.4 dB. The double-side irradiated SWW-induced couplings between two FAs also provided low optical loss. They were found to be less sensitive to temperature changes, and no significant distortion in the digital signal transmission test was observed. We believe that the findings are useful and applicable to other dye-dispersed epoxy material systems for relaxing the alignment tolerance of the optical interconnects in various photonic packaging situations.  相似文献

用光线追迹迭代法和解析法设计无球差非球面波导短程透镜的母线,用单点金刚石超精加工和凹面波导制备工艺,研制成孔径和有效孔径分别为8和6mm的LiNbO3导短程透镜.实验表明,器件在有效孔径内无球差;对4mm宽的输入平面波光束,焦点衍射光斑半宽度为4μm;透镜插入损耗为~1dB.  相似文献

介绍了两种可以增大单模光纤模场直径并出射准直平行光束的扩芯光纤(ECF)的原理和制作方法。分析了单模光纤熔接渐变折射率多模光纤法通过改变渐变折射率多模光纤的长度和自聚焦参量实现模场扩大缩小的原理,制作的扩芯光纤模场直径扩大到16.6μm,出射光束平行效果较好,轴向耦合容限比单模光纤扩大了近6倍。加热扩芯光纤则是通过控制加热温度和加热时间直接使单模光纤掺杂物质发生扩散,从而实现扩束和光束准直,模场直径达到15.4μm,横向、轴向耦合容限都比单模光纤有很大提高。因此扩芯光纤可以简化单模光纤的耦合对准过程,用来制作新型的单模光纤或掺铒光纤连接器,也可以用于其它光器件中与单模光纤的准直。  相似文献

In this work, the investigation of the interface states density and series resistance from capacitance–voltage (CV) and conductance–voltage (GV) characteristics in Au/SnO2/n-Si (MOS) structures prepared at various SnO2 layer thicknesses by spray deposition technique have been reported. It is fabricated five samples depending on deposition time. The thicknesses of SnO2 films obtained from the measurement of the oxide capacitance in the strong accumulation region for MOS Schottky diodes are 37, 79, 274, 401, and 446 Å, for D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5 samples, respectively. The CV and GV measurements of Au/SnO2/n-Si MOS structures are performed in the voltage range from −6 to +10 V and the frequency range from 500 Hz to 10 MHz at room temperature. It is observed that peaks in the forward CV characteristics appeared because of the series resistance. It has been seen that the value of the series resistance Rs of samples D1 (47 Ω), D2 (64 Ω), D3 (98 Ω), D4 (151 Ω), and D5 (163 Ω) increases with increasing the oxide layer thickness. The interface state density Dit ranges from 2.40×1013 cm−2 eV−1 for D1 sample to 2.73×1012 cm−2 eV−1 for D5 sample and increases with increasing the oxide layer thickness.  相似文献
