Tuning the morphology, size and aspect ratio of free standing ZnO nanostructured arrays by a simple hydrothermal method is reported. Pre-coated ZnO seed layers of two different thicknesses (≈350 nm or 550 nm) were used as substrates to grow ZnO nanostructures for the study. Various parameters such as chemical ambience, pH of the solution, strength of the Zn2+ atoms and thickness of seed bed are varied to analyze their effects on the resultant ZnO nanostructures. Vertically oriented hexagonal nanorods, multi-angular nanorods, hexagonal diskette and popcorn-like nanostructures are obtained by altering the experimental parameters. All the produced nanostructures were analysed by X-ray powder diffraction analysis and found to be grown in the (002) orientation of wurtzite ZnO. The texture co-efficient of ZnO layer was improved by combining a thick seed layer with higher cationic strength. Surface morphological studies reveal various nanostructures such as nanorods, diskettes and popcorn-like structures based on various preparation conditions. The optical property of the closest packed nanorods array was recorded by UV-VIS spectrometry, and the band gap value simulated from the results reflect the near characteristic band gap of ZnO. The surface roughness profile taken from the Atomic Force Microscopy reveals a roughness of less than 320 nm.  相似文献

Various zinc precursors, such as zinc acetate, zinc nitrate, zinc sulfate, and zinc chloride, have been used to control the formation of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures onto aluminum substrate by chemical means. FESEM images of the ZnO nanostructures showed the formation of different morphologies, such as flakes, nanowalls, nanopetals, and nanodisks, when the nanostructures were synthesized using zinc acetate, zinc nitrate, zinc sulfate, and zinc chloride precursors, respectively. The TEM image of disk-like ZnO nanostructures formed using zinc chloride as a precursor revealed hexagonally shaped particles with an average diameter of 0.5 μm. Room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectra revealed a large quantity of surface oxygen defects in ZnO nanodisks grown from zinc chloride compared with those using other precursors. Furthermore, the ZnO nanostructures were evaluated for photocatalytic activity under ultraviolet (UV) light illumination. Nanostructures having a disk-like shape exhibited the highest photocatalytic performance (k = 0.027 min−1) for all the ZnO nanostructures studied. Improved photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanodisks was attributed to their large specific surface area (4.83 m2 g−1), surface oxygen defects, and super-hydrophilic nature of their surface, which is particularly suitable for dye adsorption.  相似文献

In this study, two different chemical solution methods were used to synthesize Zinc oxide nanostructures via a simple and fast microwave assisted method. Afterwards, the photocatalytic performances of the produced ZnO powders were investigated using methylene blue (MB) photodegradation with UV lamp irradiation. The obtained ZnO nanostructures showed spherical and flower-like morphologies. The average crystallite size of the flower-like and spherical nanostructures were determined to be about 55 nm and 28 nm, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), room temperature photoluminescence (RT-PL) and UV–vis analysis were used for characterization of the synthesized ZnO powders. Using BET N2-adsorption technique, the specific surface area of the flower-like and spherical ZnO nanostructures were found to be 22.9 m2/gr and 98 m2/gr, respectively. Both morphologies show similar band gap values. Finally, our results depict that the efficiency of photocatalytic performance in the Zinc oxide nanostructures with spherical morphology is greater than that found in the flower-like Zinc oxide nanostructures as well as bulk ZnO.  相似文献

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures have been synthesized by the implantation of ZnO molecular ions into SiO2 followed by high temperature thermal annealing. 35 keV ZnO? ions were implanted to a fluence of 5×1016 ions/cm2 into SiO2 at room temperature (RT). The implanted sample was annealed in an oxygen environment to allow the growth of ZnO precipitates. In the as-implanted sample, Zn nanoparticles up to 4.5 nm in diameter were observed and were distributed throughout the implanted depth in the SiO2. The highest concentration of Zn from the implantation was at a depth of 25 nm. During annealing, Zn diffused into the substrate and combined with oxygen to form ZnO. ZnO nanostructures thus formed had diameters up to 8 nm, embedded in SiO2. Donor-bound exciton (D, X), acceptor-bound exciton (A, X), and donor–acceptor-pair (DAP) transitions were observed in low temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements on an annealed sample. RT-PL measurement showed band-edge emission in the ultraviolet region with a full width at half maximum of 121 meV. Time-resolved PL measurements performed at 4 K revealed an excitonic lifetime of 160 ps.  相似文献

The local structure distortion, the spin Hamiltonian (SH) parameters, and the electric fine structure of the ground state for Mn2+(3d5) ion in ZnO crystals are systematically investigated, where spin--spin (SS), spin--other--orbit (SOO) and orbit--orbit (OO) magnetic interactions, besides the well-known spin--orbit (SO) coupling, are taken into account for the first time, by using the complete diagonalization method. The theoretical results of the second-order zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameter D, the fourth-order ZFS parameter (a-F), the Zeeman g-factors: g// and g, and the energy differences of the ground state: \delta1 and \delta2 for Mn2+ in Mn2+: ZnO are in good agreement with experimental measurements when the three O2- ions below the Mn2+ ion rotate by 1.085o away from the [111]-axis. Hence, the local structure distortion effect plays an important role in explaining the spectroscopic properties of Mn2+ ions in Mn2+: ZnO crystals. It is found for Mn2+ ions in Mn2+: ZnO crystals that although the SO mechanism is the most important one, the contributions to the SH parameters, made by other four mechanisms, i.e. SS, SOO, OO, and SO~SS~SOO~OO mechanisms, are significant and should not be omitted, especially for calculating ZFS parameter D.  相似文献

ZnO nanostructures, including nanowires, nanorods, and nanoneedles, have been deposited on GaAs substrates by the two-step chemical bath synthesis. It was demonstrated that the O2-plasma treatment of GaAs substrates prior to the sol?Cgel deposition of seed layers was essential to conformally grow the nanostructures instead of 2D ZnO bunches and grains on the seed layers. Via adjusting the growth time and concentration of precursors, nanostructures with different average diameter (26?C225?nm), length (0.98?C2.29???m), and density (1.9?C15.3?×?109?cm?2) can be obtained. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of ZnO nanostructure arrays grown on GaAs substrates by the two-step chemical bath synthesis. As an anti-reflection layer on GaAs-based solar cells, the array of ZnO nanoneedles with an average diameter of 125?nm, a moderate length of 2.29???m, and the distribution density of 9.8?×?109 cm?2 has increased the power conversion efficiency from 7.3 to 12.2?%, corresponding to a 67?% improvement.  相似文献

Developing efficient and cost-effective photoanode plays a vital role determining the photocurrent and photovoltage in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Here, we demonstrate DSSCs that achieve relatively high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) by using one-dimensional (1D) zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires and copper (II) oxide (CuO) nanorods hybrid nanostructures. CuO nanorod-based thin films were prepared by hydrothermal method and used as a blocking layer on top of the ZnO nanowires’ layer. The use of 1D ZnO nanowire/CuO nanorod hybrid nanostructures led to an exceptionally high photovoltaic performance of DSSCs with a remarkably high open-circuit voltage (0.764 V), short current density (14.76 mA/cm2 under AM1.5G conditions), and relatively high solar to power conversion efficiency (6.18%) . The enhancement of the solar to power conversion efficiency can be explained in terms of the lag effect of the interfacial recombination dynamics of CuO nanorod-blocking layer on ZnO nanowires. This work shows more economically feasible method to bring down the cost of the nano-hybrid cells and promises for the growth of other important materials to further enhance the solar to power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Gold colloid:ZnO nanostructures were prepared from Zn powder by using thermal oxidation technique on alumina substrates, then it was impregnated by gold colloid for comparative study. The gold colloid is the solution prepared by chemical reduction technique; it appeared red color for gold nanoparticle solution and yellow color for gold solution. The heating temperature and sintering time of thermal oxidation were 700 °C and 24 h, respectively under oxygen atmosphere. The structural characteristics of gold colloid:ZnO nanostructures and pure ZnO nanostructures were studied using filed emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). From FE-SEM images, the diameter and length of gold colloid:ZnO nanostructures and ZnO nanostructures were in the ranges of 100-500 nm and 2.0-7.0 μm, respectively. The ethanol sensing characteristics of gold colloid:ZnO nanostructures and ZnO nanostructures were observed from the resistance alteration under ethanol vapor atmosphere at concentrations of 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 ppm with the operating temperature of 260-360 °C. It was found that the sensitivity of sensor depends on the operating temperature and ethanol vapor concentrations. The sensitivity of gold colloid:ZnO nanostructures were improved with comparative pure ZnO nanostructures, while the optimum operating temperature was 300 °C. The mechanism analysis of sensor revealed that the oxygen species on the surface was O2−.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3-D) ZnO random-wall nanostructures and one-dimensional (1-D) ZnO nanorods were prepared on silicon substrates by a simple solid-vapour phase thermal sublimation technique. Optical pumped random lasing has been observed in the ZnO random-wall arrays with a threshold intensity of 0.38 MW/cm2 in the emission wavelength from 380 to 395 nm. The optical gain was attributed to the closed-loop scattering and light amplification of the ZnO random-wall. The experimental result suggests that the morphology of nanostructure is the key factor to effect random lasing.  相似文献

Single-crystal Eu3+-doped wurtzite ZnO micro- and nanowires were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition. The nanostructures grew via a self-catalytic mechanism on the walls of an alumina boat. The structure and properties of the doped ZnO were characterized using X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) methods. A 10-min synthesis yielded vertically grown nanowires of 50–400 nm in diameter and several micrometers long. The nanowires grew along the ±[0001] direction. The Eu3+ concentration in the nanowires was 0.8 at.%. The crystal structure and microstructure of were compared for Eu3+-doped and undoped ZnO. PL spectra showed a red shift in emission for Eu3+-doped (2.02 eV) compared to undoped ZnO nanowires (2.37 eV) due to Eu3+ intraionic transitions. Diffuse reflectance spectra revealed widening of the optical bandgap by 0.12 eV for Eu3+-doped compared to undoped ZnO to yield a value of 3.31 eV. Fourier-transform infrared spectra confirmed the presence of europium in the ZnO nanowires.  相似文献

ZnO nanostructures were prepared by thermal oxidation technique for applying as ethanol sensors and dye-sensitized solar cells. To improve sensitivity of the sensor based on ZnO nanostructures, gold doping was performed in ZnO nanostructures. Gold-doped with 0%, 5%, and 10% by weight were investigated. The improvement of sensor sensitivity toward ethanol due to gold doping was observed at entire operating temperature and ethanol concentration. The sensitivity up to 145 was obtained for 10% Au-doped ZnO sensor. This can be explained by an increase of the quantity of oxygen ion due to catalytic effect of gold. Also, it was found that oxygen ion species at the surface of the Au-doped ZnO sensor remained O2− as pure ZnO sensor. For dye-sensitized solar cell application, the dye-sensitized solar cell structure based on ZnO as a photoelectrode was FTO/ZnO/Eosin-Y/electrolyte/Pt counter electrode. ZnO with different morphologies of nanobelt, nano-tetrapod, and powder were investigated. It was found that DSSCs with ZnO powder showed higher photocurrent, photovoltage and overall energy conversion efficiencies than that of ZnO nanobelt and ZnO nano-tetrapod. The best results of DSSCs were the short circuit current (Jsc) of 1.25 mA/cm2, the open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.45 V, the fill factor (FF) of 0.65 and the overall energy conversion efficiency (η) of 0.68%.  相似文献

13C cross-polarization/magic-angle spinning (CP/MAS) solid-state NMR spectroscopy has been employed to analyze four vitamin D compounds, namely vitamin D3 (D3), vitamin D2 (D2), and the precursors ergosterol (Erg) and 7-dehydrocholesterol (7DHC). The 13C NMR spectrum of D3 displays a doublet pattern for each of the carbon atoms, while that of Erg contains both singlet and doublet patterns. In the cases of 7DHC and D2, the 13C spectra display various multiplet patterns, viz. singlets, doublets, triplets, and quartets. To overcome the signal overlap between the 13C resonances of protonated and unprotonated carbons, we have subjected these vitamin D compounds to 1D 1H-filtered 13C CP/MAS and {1H}/13C heteronuclear correlation (Hetcor) NMR experiments. As a result, assisted by solution NMR data, all of the 13C resonances have been successfully assigned to the respective carbon atoms of these vitamin D compounds. The 13C multiplets are interpreted due to the presence of s-cis and s-trans configurations in the α- and β-molecular conformers, consistent with computer molecular modeling determined by molecular dynamics and energy minimization calculations. To further characterize the ring conformations in D3, we have successfully extracted chemical shift tensor elements for the 13C doublets. It is demonstrated that 13C solid-state NMR spectroscopy provides a robust and high sensitive means of characterizing molecular conformations in vitamin D compounds.  相似文献

ZnO nanostructures are grown on Au-catalyzed Si substrates by vapour phase transport between 800 and 1150 C. Nanostructures grown at 800 C are mainly rod-like in structure with diameters of <200 nm. Increasing growth temperature yields combination growth modes with 2D structures (nanowalls/nanosheets) connecting 1D nanorods at intermediate temperatures and a 3D growth mode of foam-like appearance at the highest temperatures. The present work indicates that it may be possible to systematically control the morphology of ZnO nanostructures by varying the growth temperature.  相似文献

Novel lotiform ZnO nanostructures were synthesized on silicon substrate via simple thermal evaporation. The average diameter of the ZnO nanostructures is ∼1.5 μm. The lotiform-like ZnO structures were formed by nanorods arrays with the average diameter of 70 nm. The as-grown lotiform ZnO nanostructures have excellent field-emission properties such as the low turn-on field of 3.4 V/μm, and very high emission current density of 12.4 mA/cm2 at the field of 9.6 V/μm. These features make the lotiform-like ZnO nanostructures competitive candidates for field-emission-based displays. PACS 61.46.-w; 61.82.Rx; 78.67.-n; 73.63.Bd; 74.78.Na  相似文献

We investigated the influence of the ZnO coating on the properties of one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures of SnO2. We have employed X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy to characterize both as-synthesized and ZnO-coated products. We observed that deposition process of ZnO by using an atomic layer deposition technique resulted in the SnO2 core/ZnO shell structure. The photoluminescence of the ZnO-coated products exhibited broad bands in the UV and green region, suggesting a possible contribution of the emission from the ZnO outlayers.  相似文献

Self-assembled one-dimensional (1D) zinc oxide (ZnO) rods and three-dimensional (3D) cupric oxide (CuO) cubes like nanostructures with a mean crystallite size of approximately 33 and 32 nm were synthesized through chemical route in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) under mild synthesis conditions. The technique used for the synthesis of nanoparticles seems to be an efficient, inexpensive and easy method. X-Ray diffraction patterns confirmed well crystallinity and phase purity of the as prepared samples, followed by the compositional investigation using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The formation of ZnO nanorods and CuO nanocubes like structures were through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images. The mechanism and the formation factors of the self-assembly were discussed in detail. It was clearly observed from results that the concentration of precursors and PVP were important factors in the synthesis of self-assembly ZnO and CuO nanostructures. These self-assembly nanostructures maybe used as novel materials in various potential applications.  相似文献

Quasi-one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures, such as nanowires, nanobelts and nanorods, are the forefront materials for nanotechnology. To date, such nanostructures have been synthesized for a wide range of semiconductors and oxides, and they are potential building blocks for fabricating numerous nano-scale devices. 1D ZnO nanostructures, due to its unique semiconducting, piezoelectric, and bio-safe properties, have received wide attention. From structure point of view, a common characteristic of ZnO nanostructures is that they are mostly dislocation-free. However, planar and point defects do frequently exist in such nanostructures. The objective of this paper is to present detailed electron microscopy study about the structures of planar defects, such as stacking faults, twins, inversion domain walls that existed in 1D ZnO nanostructures. These planar defects are important for understanding the growth mechanism and relevant physical and possibly chemical properties of 1D ZnO nanostructures.  相似文献

ZnO nanorods, nanobelts, nanowires, and tetrapod nanowires were synthesized via thermal evaporation of Zn powder at temperatures in the range 550-600 °C under flow of Ar or Ar/O2 as carrier gas. Uniform ZnO nanowires with diameter 15-25 nm and tetrapod nanowires with diameter 30-50 nm were obtained by strictly controlling the evaporation process. Our experimental results revealed that the concentration of O2 in the carrier gas was a key factor to control the morphology of ZnO nanostructures. The gas sensors fabricated from quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) ZnO nanostructures exhibited a good performance. The sensor response to 500 ppm ethanol was up to about 5.3 at the operating temperature 300 °C. Both response and recovery times were less than 20 s. The gas-sensing mechanism of the ZnO nanostructures is also discussed and their potential application is indicated accordingly.  相似文献

Material property dependence on the OH/Zn2+ molar ratio of the precursor was investigated by varying the amount of NaOH during synthesis of ZnO. It was necessary to control the water content and temperature of the mixture to ensure the reproducibility. It was observed that the structural properties, particle size, photoluminescence intensity and wavelength of maximum intensity were influenced by the molar ratio of the precursor. The XRD spectra for ZnO nanoparticles show the entire peaks corresponding to the various planes of wurtzite ZnO, indicating a single phase. UV measurements show the absorption that comes from the ZnO nanoparticles in visible region. The absorption edge of these ZnO nanoparticles are shifted to higher energies and the determined band gap energies are blue shifted as the OH/Zn2 molar ration increases, due to the quantum confinement effects. The photoluminescence characterization of the ZnO nanostructures exhibited a broad emission band centred at green (600 nm) region for all molar ratios except for OH/Zn2+ = 1.7 where a second blue emission around 468 nm was also observed. The photoluminescence properties of ZnO nanoparticles were largely determined by the size and surface properties of the nanoparticles.  相似文献
