Let be an integer matrix, and assume that the convex hull of its columns is a simplex of dimension  not containing the origin. It is known that the semigroup ring is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if the rank of the GKZ hypergeometric system equals the normalized volume of for all complex parameters (Saito, 2002). Our refinement here shows that has rank strictly larger than the volume of if and only if lies in the Zariski closure (in  ) of all -graded degrees where the local cohomology is nonzero. We conjecture that the same statement holds even when is not a simplex.

A formulation is given for the spectral transformation of the generalized eigenvalue problem through the decomposition of the second-order differential operators. This allows us to construct some Laurent biorthogonal polynomial systems with gaps in the degree of the polynomial sequence. These correspond to an exceptional-type extension of the orthogonal polynomials, as an extension of the Laurent biorthogonal polynomials. Specifically, we construct the exceptional extension of the Hendriksen–van Rossum polynomials, which are biorthogonal analogs of the classical orthogonal polynomials. Similar to the cases of exceptional extensions of classical orthogonal polynomials, both state-deletion and state-addition occur.  相似文献

Spectral factorization of Laurent polynomials   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We analyse the performance of five numerical methods for factoring a Laurent polynomial, which is positive on the unit circle, as the modulus squared of a real algebraic polynomial. It is found that there is a wide disparity between the methods, and all but one of the methods are significantly influenced by the variation in magnitude of the coefficients of the Laurent polynomial, by the closeness of the zeros of this polynomial to the unit circle, and by the spacing of these zeros. Duistermaat and van der Kallen show that there is no nontrivial complex Laurent polynomial all of whose powers have a zero constant term. Inspired by this, Sturmfels poses two questions: Do the constant terms of a generic Laurent polynomial form a regular sequence? If so, then what is the degree of the associated zero-dimensional ideal? In this note, we prove that the Eulerian numbers provide the answer to the second question. The proof involves reinterpreting the problem in terms of toric geometry.  相似文献

In the paper [J. Ritt, Prime and composite polynomials, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 23 (1922) 51-66] Ritt constructed the theory of functional decompositions of polynomials with complex coefficients. In particular, he described explicitly polynomial solutions of the functional equation f(p(z))=g(q(z)). In this paper we study the equation above in the case where f,g,p,q are holomorphic functions on compact Riemann surfaces. We also construct a self-contained theory of functional decompositions of rational functions with at most two poles generalizing the Ritt theory. In particular, we give new proofs of the theorems of Ritt and of the theorem of Bilu and Tichy.  相似文献

Recently Dritschel proved that any positive multivariate Laurent polynomial can be factorized into a sum of square magnitudes of polynomials. We first give another proof of the Dritschel theorem. Our proof is based on the univariate matrix Fejér–Riesz theorem. Then we discuss a computational method to find approximates of polynomial matrix factorization. Some numerical examples will be shown. Finally we discuss how to compute nonnegative Laurent polynomial factorizations in the multivariate setting.  相似文献

We show that it is undecidable for finite sets S of upper triangular (4×4)-matrices over Z[x,x−1] whether or not all elements in the semigroup generated by S have a nonzero constant term in some of the Laurent polynomials of the first row. Matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the theory of Toda-like integrable systems are connected using the Gauss–Borel factorization of two, left and a right, Cantero–Morales–Velázquez block moment matrices, which are constructed using a quasi-definite matrix measure. A block Gauss–Borel factorization problem of these moment matrices leads to two sets of biorthogonal matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials and matrix Szeg? polynomials, which can be expressed in terms of Schur complements of bordered truncations of the block moment matrix. The corresponding block extension of the Christoffel–Darboux theory is derived. Deformations of the quasi-definite matrix measure leading to integrable systems of Toda type are studied. The integrable theory is given in this matrix scenario; wave and adjoint wave functions, Lax and Zakharov–Shabat equations, bilinear equations and discrete flows — connected with Darboux transformations. We generalize the integrable flows of the Cafasso's matrix extension of the Toeplitz lattice for the Verblunsky coefficients of Szeg? polynomials. An analysis of the Miwa shifts allows for the finding of interesting connections between Christoffel–Darboux kernels and Miwa shifts of the matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials.  相似文献

In [3] certain Laurent polynomials of 2F1 genus were called “Jacobi Laurent polynomials”. These Laurent polynomials belong to systems which are orthogonal with respect to a moment sequence ((a)n/(c)n)nεℤ where a, c are certain real numbers. Together with their confluent forms, belonging to systems which are orthogonal with respect to 1/(c)n)nεℤ respectively ((a)n)nεℤ, these Laurent polynomials will be called “classical”. The main purpose of this paper is to determine all the simple (see section 1) orthogonal systems of Laurent polynomials of which the members satisfy certain second order differential equations with polynomial coefficients, analogously to the well known characterization of S. On the space, , of Laurent polynomials (L-polynomials) we consider a linear functional which is positive definite on (0, ) and is defined in terms of a given bisequence, { k } . Two sequences of orthogonal L-polynomials, {Q n (z) 0 and , are constructed which span in the order {1,z –1,z,z –2,z 2,...} and {1,z,z –1,z 2,z –2,...} respectively. Associated sequences of L-polynomials {P n (z) 0 , and are introduced and we define rational functions , wherew is a fixed positive number. The partial fraction decomposition and integral representation of,M n (z, w) are given and correspondence of {M n (z, w)} is discussed. We get additional solutions to the strong Stieltjes moment problem from subsequences of {M n (z, w)}. Let C be a chain complex of finitely generated free modules over a commutative Laurent polynomial ring Ls in s indeterminates. Given a group homomorphism p:Zs?Zt we let p!(C)=C?LsLt denote the resulting induced complex over the Laurent polynomial ring Lt in t indeterminates. We prove that the Betti number jump loci, that is, the sets of those homomorphisms p such that bk(p!(C))>bk(C), have a surprisingly simple structure. We allow non-unital commutative rings of coefficients, and work with a notion of Betti numbers that generalises both the usual one for integral domains, and the analogous concept involving McCoy ranks in case of unital commutative rings.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the strong Hamburger moment problem (SHMP): For a given double sequence of real numbers C = {cn}?∞, does there exist a real-valued, bounded, non-decreasing function ψ on (?∞, ∞) with infinitely many points of increase such that for every integer n, cn = ∝?∞ (?t)n(t)? Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such a function ψ are given in terms of the positivity of certain Hankel determinants associated with C. Our approach is made through the study of orthogonal (and quasi-orthogonal) Laurent polynomials (referred to here as L-polynomials) and closely related Gaussian-type quadrature formulas. In the proof of sufficiency an inner product for L-polynomials is defined in terms of the given double sequence C. Since orthogonal L-polynomials are believed to be of interest in themselves, some examples of specific systems are considered.  相似文献

A Toeplitz determinant whose entries are described by a q-analogue of the Narayana polynomials is evaluated by means of Laurent biorthogonal polynomials which allow of a combinatorial interpretation in terms of Schröder paths. As an application, a new proof is given to the Aztec diamond theorem by Elkies, Kuperberg, Larsen and Propp concerning domino tilings of the Aztec diamonds.
