Suppose V is a vector space with dim V = p ≥ q ≥ ?0, and let T(V) denote the semigroup (under composition) of all linear transformations of V. For α ∈ T (V), let ker α and ran α denote the “kernel” and the “range” of α, and write n(α) = dim ker α and d(α) = codim ran α. In this article, we study the semigroups AM(p, q) = {α ∈ T(V):n(α) < q} and AE(p, q) = {α ∈ T(V):d(α) < q}. First, we determine whether they belong to the class of all semigroups whose sets of bi-ideals and quasi-ideals coincide. Then, for each semigroup, we describe its maximal regular subsemigroup, and we characterise its Green's relations and (two-sided) ideals. As a precursor to further work in this area,, we also determine all the maximal right simple subsemigroups of AM(p, q).  相似文献

Let n≥1 be a fixed integer, R a prime ring with its right Martindale quotient ring Q, C the extended centroid, and L a non-central Lie ideal of R. If F is a generalized skew derivation of R such that (F(x)F(y)?yx)n = 0 for all x,yL, then char(R) = 2 and R?M2(C), the ring of 2×2 matrices over C.  相似文献

Let V be an infinite-dimensional vector space, let n be a cardinal such that ?0 ≤ n ≤ dim V, and let AM(V, n) denote the semigroup consisting of all linear transformations of V whose nullity is less than n. In recent work, Mendes-Gonçalves and Sullivan studied the ideal structure of AM(V, n). Here, we do the same for a similarly-defined semigroup AM(X, q) of transformations defined on an infinite set X. Although our results are clearly comparable with those already obtained for AM(V, n), we show that the two semigroups are never isomorphic.  相似文献

Let R be a noncommutative prime ring and I a nonzero left ideal of R. Let g be a generalized derivation of R such that [g(r k ), r k ] n  = 0 for all r ∈ I, where k, n are fixed positive integers. Then there exists c ∈ U, the left Utumi quotient ring of R, such that g(x) = xc and I(c ? α) = 0 for a suitable α ∈ C. In particular we have that g(x) = α x, for all x ∈ I.  相似文献

Let R be a prime ring, L a noncentral Lie ideal of R, and a ∈ R. Set [x, y]1 = [x, y] = xy ? yx for x, y ∈ R and inductively [x, y]k = [[x, y]k?1, y] for k > 1. Suppose that δ is a nonzero σ-derivation of R such that a[δ(x), x]k = 0 for all x ∈ L, where σ is an automorphism of R and k is a fixed positive integer. Then a = 0 except when char R = 2 and R ? M2(F), the 2 × 2 matrix ring over a field F.  相似文献

In this paper we prove a quantitative form of Landis’ conjecture in the plane. Precisely, let W(z) be a measurable real vector-valued function and V(z) ≥0 be a real measurable scalar function, satisfying ‖W L (R 2) ≤ 1 and ‖V L (R 2) ≤ 1. Let u be a real solution of Δu ? ?(Wu) ? Vu = 0 in R 2. Assume that u(0) = 1 and |u(z)| ≤exp (C 0|z|). Then u satisfies inf |z 0| =R  sup |z?z 0| <1|u(z)| ≥exp (?CRlog R), where C depends on C 0. In addition to the case of the whole plane, we also establish a quantitative form of Landis’ conjecture defined in an exterior domain.  相似文献

Suppose that V is a finite faithful irreducible G-module where G is a finite solvable group of odd order. We prove if the action is quasi-primitive, then either F(G) is abelian or G has at least 212 regular orbits on V. As an application, we prove that when V is a finite faithful completely reducible G-module for a solvable group G of odd order, then there exists v ∈ V such that C G (v) ? F 2(G) (where F 2(G) is the 2nd ascending Fitting subgroup of G). We also generalize a result of Espuelas and Navarro. Let G be a group of odd order and let H be a Hall π-subgroup of G. Let V be a faithful G-module over a finite field of characteristic 2, then there exists v ∈ V such that C H (v) ? O π(G).  相似文献

Abstract

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic ≠2 and let G be a connected, reductive algebraic group with involution θ ∈ Aut(G). A (G, θ)-module is a rational G-module with a compatible action of θ. The purpose of this note is to classify the irreducible (G, θ)-modules.  相似文献

Coset diagrams defined for the transitive actions of PSL(2, Z) on projective line over a Galois field F p , PL(F p ), where p is prime, are used to obtain a formula for finding the number of subgroups of index p + 1 of the modular group PSL(2, Z). Some intransitive actions of PSL(2, Z) on PL(F p ) for some special values of θ, when θ ∈ F p , are also studied.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let A = A 0 ⊕ A 1 be an associative superalgebra over a commutative associative ring F, and let Z s (A) be its supercenter. An F-mapping f of A into itself is called supercentralizing on a subset S of A if [x, f(x)] s  ∈ Z s (A) for all x ∈ S. In this article, we prove a version of Posner's theorem for supercentralizing superderivations on prime superalgebras.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let k be a field, char k ≠ 2, F = k(x), D a biquaternion division algebra over k, and σ an orthogonal involution on D with nontrivial discriminant. We show that there exists a quadratic form ? ∈ I 2(F) such that dim ? = 8, [C(?)] = [D], and ? does not decompose into a direct sum of two forms similar to two-fold Pfister forms. This implies in particular that the field extension F(D)/F is not excellent. Also we prove that if A is a central simple K-algebra of degree 8 with an orthogonal involution σ, then σ is hyperbolic if and only if σ K(A) is hyperbolic. Finally, let σ be a decomposable orthogonal involution on the algebra M 2 m (K). In the case m ≤ 5 we give another proof of the fact that σ is a Pfister involution. If m ≥ 2 n?2 ? 2 and n ≥ 5, we show that q σ ∈ I n (K), where q σ is a quadratic form corresponding to σ. The last statement is founded on a deep result of Orlov et al. (2000) concerning generic splittings of quadratic forms.  相似文献

Let R be a prime ring, with no nonzero nil right ideal, Q the two-sided Martindale quotient ring of R, F a generalized derivation of R, L a noncommutative Lie ideal of R, and b ∈ Q. If, for any u, w ∈ L, there exists n = n(u, w) ≥1 such that (F(uw) ? bwu)n = 0, then one of the following statements holds:
  1. F = 0 and b = 0;

  2. R ? M2(K), the ring of 2 × 2 matrices over a field K, b2 = 0, and F(x) = ?bx, for all x ∈ R.

Abstract

Let L be a line bundle on a smooth curve C, which defines a birational morphism onto Φ(C) ? P r . We prove that, under suitable assumptions on L, which are satisfied by Castelnuovo's curves, a generic section in H 0(C, L 2) can be written as α2 + β2 + γ2, with α, β, γ ∈ H 0(C, L). If there are no quadrics of rank 3 containing Φ(C), this is true for any section. For canonical curves, this gives a non linear version of Noether's Theorem.  相似文献

Let f: V × V → F be a totally arbitrary bilinear form defined on a finite dimensional vector space V over a field F, and let L(f) be the subalgebra of 𝔤𝔩(V) of all skew-adjoint endomorphisms relative to f. Provided F is algebraically closed of characteristic not 2, we determine all f, up to equivalence, such that L(f) is reductive. As a consequence, we find, over an arbitrary field, necessary and sufficient conditions for L(f) to be simple, semisimple or isomorphic to 𝔰𝔩(n) for some n.  相似文献

The following question was raised by Bruce Richter. Let G be a planar, 3‐connected graph that is not a complete graph. Denoting by d(v) the degree of vertex v, is G L‐list colorable for every list assignment L with |L(v)| = min{d(v), 6} for all vV(G)? More generally, we ask for which pairs (r, k) the following question has an affirmative answer. Let r and k be the integers and let G be a K5‐minor‐free r‐connected graph that is not a Gallai tree (i.e. at least one block of G is neither a complete graph nor an odd cycle). Is G L‐list colorable for every list assignment L with |L(v)| = min{d(v), k} for all vV(G)? We investigate this question by considering the components of G[Sk], where Sk: = {vV(G)|d(v)8k} is the set of vertices with small degree in G. We are especially interested in the minimum distance d(Sk) in G between the components of G[Sk]. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 71:18–30, 2012  相似文献

Let 𝒜 be a ring, let ? be an 𝒜-bimodule, and let 𝒞 be the center of ?. A map F:𝒜 → ? is said to be range-inclusive if [F(x), 𝒜] ? [x, ?] for every x ∈ 𝒜. We show that if 𝒜 contains idempotents satisfying certain technical conditions (which we call wide idempotents), then every range-inclusive additive map F:𝒜 → ? is of the form F(x) = λx + μ(x) for some λ ∈ 𝒞 and μ:𝒜 → 𝒞. As a corollary we show that if 𝒜 is a prime ring containing an idempotent different from 0 and 1, then every range-inclusive additive map from 𝒜 into itself is commuting (i.e., [F(x), x] = 0 for every x ∈ 𝒜).  相似文献
