Full Ideals

Contractedness of 𝔪-primary integrally closed ideals played a central role in the development of Zariski's theory of integrally closed ideals in two-dimensional regular local rings (R, 𝔪). In such rings, the contracted 𝔪-primary ideals are known to be characterized by the property that I: 𝔪 = I: x for some x ∈ 𝔪 ?𝔪². We call the ideals with this property full ideals and compare this class of ideals with the classes of 𝔪-full ideals, basically full ideals, and contracted ideals in higher dimensional regular local rings. The 𝔪-full ideals are easily seen to be full. In this article, we find a sufficient condition for a full ideal to be 𝔪-full. We also show the equivalence of the properties full, 𝔪-full, contracted, integrally closed, and normal, for the class of parameter ideals. We then find a sufficient condition for a basically full parameter ideal to be full.     

Minimal Resolutions and the Homology of Matching and Chessboard Complexes

We generalize work of Lascoux and Józefiak-Pragacz-Weyman on Betti numbers for minimal free resolutions of ideals generated by 2 × 2 minors of generic matrices and generic symmetric matrices, respectively. Quotients of polynomial rings by these ideals are the classical Segre and quadratic Veronese subalgebras, and we compute the analogous Betti numbers for some natural modules over these Segre and quadratic Veronese subalgebras. Our motivation is two-fold: We immediately deduce from these results the irreducible decomposition for the symmetric group action on the rational homology of all chessboard complexes and complete graph matching complexes as studied by Björner, Lovasz, Vreica and ivaljevi. This follows from an old observation on Betti numbers of semigroup modules over semigroup rings described in terms of simplicial complexes. The class of modules over the Segre rings and quadratic Veronese rings which we consider is closed under the operation of taking canonical modules, and hence exposes a pleasant symmetry inherent in these Betti numbers.     

A Characterization of Cancellation Ideals

An ideal of a commutative ring with identity is called a cancellation ideal if whenever for ideals and of , then . We show that an ideal is a cancellation ideal if and only if is locally a regular principal ideal.

     

On n-Absorbing Ideals of Commutative Rings

Let R be a commutative ring with 1 ≠ 0 and n a positive integer. In this article, we study two generalizations of a prime ideal. A proper ideal I of R is called an n-absorbing (resp., strongly n-absorbing) ideal if whenever x ₁…x _n+1 ∈ I for x ₁,…, x _n+1 ∈ R (resp., I ₁…I _n+1 ? I for ideals I ₁,…, I _n+1 of R), then there are n of the x _i 's (resp., n of the I _i 's) whose product is in I. We investigate n-absorbing and strongly n-absorbing ideals, and we conjecture that these two concepts are equivalent. In particular, we study the stability of n-absorbing ideals with respect to various ring-theoretic constructions and study n-absorbing ideals in several classes of commutative rings. For example, in a Noetherian ring every proper ideal is an n-absorbing ideal for some positive integer n, and in a Prüfer domain, an ideal is an n-absorbing ideal for some positive integer n if and only if it is a product of prime ideals.     

Fuzzy Ideals and Fuzzy Interior Ideals in Ordered Semirings

The notions of fuzzy ideals and fuzzy interior ideals in ordered semirings are introduced and some of their characterizations are obtained through regularity criterion and with some operations on them.

Ideals of Some Matrix Rings

For a commutative ring K the conception of a strongly maximal ideal J was introduced by Kuzucuoglu and Levchuk in 2000. Denote by R_n(K,J) the ring of all n×n-matrices over K with elements from J on and above the main diagonal. Recent results on ideals of the ring R_n(K,J) for this case, ideals of the associated Lie ring and normal subgroups of the adjoint group are considered in this paper. Also ideals of R_n(K,J) for the case of an arbitrary associative ring K with the identity are investigated.     

Chorded complexes and a necessary condition for a monomial ideal to have a linear resolution

In this paper we extend one direction of Fröberg?s theorem on a combinatorial classification of quadratic monomial ideals with linear resolutions. We do this by generalizing the notion of a chordal graph to higher dimensions with the introduction of d-chorded and orientably-d-cycle-complete simplicial complexes. We show that a certain class of simplicial complexes, the d-dimensional trees, correspond to ideals having linear resolutions over fields of characteristic 2 and we also give a necessary combinatorial condition for a monomial ideal to be componentwise linear over all fields.

Congruences and Ideals of Effect Algebras

This paper is devoted to a general investigation of congruences and ideals in effect algebras. One of our main results is the existence of an order isomorphism between Riesz congruences and Riesz ideals. We also answer an open question of Dvureenskij and Pulmannová by showing that an ideal is a Riesz ideal if and only if it is closed under generalized Sasaki projections.     

Ideals with linear quotients

We study basic properties of monomial ideals with linear quotients. It is shown that if the monomial ideal I has linear quotients, then the squarefree part of I and each component of I as well as mI have linear quotients, where m is the graded maximal ideal of the polynomial ring. As an analogy to the Rearrangement Lemma of Björner and Wachs we also show that for a monomial ideal with linear quotients the admissible order of the generators can be chosen degree increasingly.     

On Standard Ideals

In the paper,we study a class of standard ideals which are more general than the m-primary standared ideals discussed in[2].We will prove an important equality concerning I-weak sequences;thus a generalization of the equality of [2] is established.
