A vinyl ether bearing a carbonate side group (2‐oxo‐1,3‐dioxolan‐4‐yl‐methyl vinyl ether, GCVE) was synthesized and copolymerized with various commercially available fluoroolefins [chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE), hexafluoropropylene (HFP), and perfluoromethyl vinyl ether (PMVE)] by radical copolymerization initiated by tert‐butyl peroxypivalate. Although HFP, PMVE, and vinyl ether do not homopolymerize under radical conditions, they copolymerized easily yielding alternating poly(GCVE‐alt‐F‐alkene) copolymers. These alternating structures were confirmed by elemental analysis as well as 1H, 19F, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. All copolymers were obtained in good yield (73–85%), with molecular weights ranging from 3900 to 4600 g mol?1 and polydispersities below 2.0. Their thermogravimetric analyses under air showed decomposition temperatures at 10% weight loss (Td,10%) in the 284–330°C range. The HFP‐based copolymer exhibited a better thermal stability than those based on CTFE and PMVE. The glass transition temperatures were in the 15–65°C range. These original copolymers may find potential interest as polymer electrolytes in lithium ions batteries. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Segmented polymer networks with LCST‐behavior have been prepared by free radical initiated copolymerization of α,ω‐bis‐methacrylate terminated poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) with 2‐hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA) or butyl acrylate (BA). The PMVE bis‐macromonomers have been obtained via a semi‐continuous process by end‐capping the living cationic polymerization of methyl vinyl ether (MVE) with HEMA. The phase separation temperature can be varied by changing the PMVE/comonomer ratio. Incorporation of PMVE‐grafts in the hydrogels increases the rate of deswelling and improves the mechanical properties. The application of the segmented networks for thermo‐controllable solid phase extraction has been demonstrated by their thermosensitive adsorption behavior of toluene from a water solution.  相似文献

Highly crystalline poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) was produced in toluene in a temperature range of 0 to ?20°C. with the use of sulfuric acid–aluminum sulfate complex (SA catalyst). It was found from the NMR spectra that these polymers contained more than 50% of the triad isotactic fraction and the melting point of the unfractionated polymer was about 130°C. However, PMVE containing a large amount of the isotactic fraction was insoluble in nitromethane, so the triad tacticity of highly crystalline PMVE could not be quantitatively determined. The molecular weight of PMVE increased with increasing conversion and increasing polymerization temperature. This behavior is different from that in metal halide catalysts. Also, the stereoregularity of PMVE decreased with increasing monomer concentration. However, addition of a polar solvent and increasing the polymerization temperature had little effect on the stereoregularity of the polymer. The increase in the isotactic fraction at high catalyst concentration and the difference in the monomer composition in the copolymerization of methyl vinyl ether with 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether by SA catalyst from that obtained by BF3·O(C2H5)2 suggest that the absorption of MVE on a catalyst surface is an important step in the propagation step by SA catalyst. The fraction of the triad tacticity calculated from the enantiomorphic catalyst sites model8 coincided with the experimental results. This fact shows that the steric structure of the adding monomer is determined only by the nature of the catalyst irrespective of the nature of a growing chain end. It is concluded, on considering also the results of the previous paper, that completely different factors can control the steric structure of a polymer even for the same monomer when different catalysts are used.  相似文献

Segmented polymer networks containing poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) segments were prepared by free‐radical‐initiated copolymerization of PMVE‐α,ω‐dimethacrylate with styrene or 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). These networks were evaluated as thermo‐responsive solid‐phase extraction materials. Suspension‐derived polymer networks consisting of 80% of PMVE and 20% of HEMA adsorb toluene from an aqueous solution at 40°C and release the adsorbed toluene quantitatively at 20°C.  相似文献

Highly water soluble [60]fullerene (C60) end‐capped vinyl ether (VE) oligomers with well‐defined structure were synthesized by living cationic polymerization technique. The addition reaction between 1‐octynylfulleride anion and oligomeric cationic species of VEs with pendant acetoxyl or malonic ester functions afforded the precursor C60 end‐capped oligomers. The living VE oligomers were prepared by living cationic polymerization of diethyl 2‐(vinyloxy)ethylmalonate (VOEM) and 2‐acetoxyethyl vinyl ether (AcOVE) by the CH3CH(OR)Cl/ZnI2 [R = CH2CH2OCOCH3 and CH2CH2CH(COOEt)2, respectively] initiating system. The precursors were obtained as dark brown gummy solid in 33 and 72% yield for AcOVE and VOEM, respectively. UV‐vis and 13C NMR spectroscopy indicated the formation of 1,2‐disubstituted dihydrofullerene derivatives. Hydrolysis of the precursors proceeded quantitatively to give the water‐soluble C60 end‐capped oligomers having oligo(sodium 2‐vinyloxyethylmalonate) [oligo(VOEMNa)] and oligo(2‐hydroxyethyl vinyl ether) [oligo(HOVE)] moieties. Solubility measurements revealed the water‐soluble C60 end‐capped oligomer with oligo(VOEMNa) chain to have the excellent aqueous solubility compared to that of the water‐soluble C60 derivatives thus far known; the maximum solubility in water is 96.6 mg/mL, which corresponds to 25.9 mg/mL of the C60 moiety. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel fluorescent‐labeled amphiphilic random terpolymer is synthesized by controlled radical polymerization of a fluorescent molecular rotor monomer, 2‐cyano‐2‐[4‐vinyl(1,1′‐biphenyl)‐4′‐yl]vinyljulolidine, a hydrophilic monomer, poly (ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate, and a hydrophobic monomer, perfluorohexylethyl acrylate. Combined dynamic light scattering and fluorescence emission spectroscopy measurements are used to investigate its self‐assembly in water solution. Self‐assembled nanostructures with a hydrodynamic diameter size Dh of 4 ± 1 nm are detected due to the single‐chain folding of the terpolymer in unimer micelles. The fluorescence emission intensity of the terpolymer in water solution is found to be one order of magnitude higher than that in organic solvents, as a result of the preferential encapsulation of the julolidine co‐units in hydrophobic compartments of the unimer micelles. The temperature dependence of the self‐associative behavior of the amphiphilic terpolymer is also investigated and a critical temperature is identified at which a transition between single‐chain unimer micelles and multi‐chain aggregates (Dh = 400 ± 40 nm) reversibly takes place on heating–cooling cycles. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbon dioxide (CO2)‐responsive polymers have been gaining considerable interest because of their reactions with CO2, giving rise to gas‐switchable properties, which can easily be reversed by mild heating or purging with inert gases. Herein, the synthesis of a series of side‐chain amino acids (alanine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, tryptophan) appending poly(meth)acrylates carrying primary amine (? NH2) groups via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization method was reported. It was found that alanine, leucine, isoleucine containing polymers displayed solubility–insolubility transition behavior and their associated property changes (solution transmittance, electrical conductivity, pH, zeta potential, and hydrodynamic diameter) in water upon alternate bubbling of CO2/N2 at room temperature. Among the three CO2‐sensitive polymers only leucine based macromolecule was further chain extended with a thermoresponsive motif, di(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (DEGMMA), via RAFT polymerization. CO2‐tunable lower critical solution temperature and self‐assembling behavior of the diblock copolymer was carefully examined by UV–vis, 1H NMR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and field emission‐scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM) to establish dual thermo and gas‐tunable flip–flop micellizaion from the as‐synthesized block copolymer. Formation of polyammonium methacrylate bearing bicarbonate as counter anion is responsible for pendant primary amine containing polymer induced CO2‐responsiveness. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Various types of fluorine‐containing star‐shaped poly(vinyl ether)s were successfully synthesized by crosslinking reactions of living polymers based on living cationic polymerization. Star polymers with fluorinated arm chains were prepared by the reaction between a divinyl ether and living poly(vinyl ether)s with fluorine groups (C4F9, C6F13, and C8F17) at the side chain using cationogen/Et1.5AlCl1.5 in a fluorinated solvent (dichloropentafluoropropanes), giving star‐shaped fluorinated polymers in high yields with a relatively narrow molecular weight distribution. The concentration of living polymers for the crosslinking reaction and the molar feed ratio of a bifunctional vinyl ether to living polymers affected the yield and molecular weight of the star polymers. Star polymers with block arms were prepared by a linking reaction of living block copolymers of a fluorinated segment and a nonfluorinated segment. Heteroarm star‐shaped polymers containing two‐ or three‐arm species were synthesized using a mixture of different living polymer species for the reaction with a bifunctional vinyl ether. The obtained polymers underwent temperature‐induced solubility transitions in various organic solvents, and their concentrated solutions underwent sol–gel transitions, based on the solubility transition of a thermoresponsive fluorinated segment. Furthermore, a slight amount of fluorine groups were shown to be effective for physical gelation when those were located at the arm ends of a star polymer. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers containing poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate) (PPEGMEA) backbone and poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (P2VP) side chains were synthesized by successive single electron transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was first prepared by SET‐LRP of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate (PEGMEA) macromonomer using CuBr/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system. The obtained homopolymer then reacted with lithium diisopropylamide and 2‐chloropropionyl chloride at ?78 °C to afford PPEGMEA‐Cl macroinitiator. poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate)‐g‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) double hydrophilic graft copolymers were finally synthesized by. ATRP of 2‐vinylpyridine initiated by PPEGMEA‐Cl macroinitiator at 25 °C using CuCl/hexamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalytic system via the grafting‐ from strategy. The molecular weights of both the backbone and the side chains were controllable and the molecular weight distributions kept relatively narrow (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.40). pH‐Responsive micellization behavior was investigated by 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy and this kind of double hydrophilic graft copolymer aggregated to form micelles with P2VP‐core while pH of the aqueous solution was above 5.0. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(vinyl methyl ether) shows a lower critical solution temperature behavior in water. The dimension of the polymer molecules depends on the temperature. A thermo‐sensitive hydrogel was synthesized by irradiation of an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl methyl ether) with electron beam and γ‐rays. At high polymer concentration a bulk gel was formed. The structure of the gel in the dry, swollen and shrunken state was investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). It could be shown, that the gel synthesized by electron beam has a sponge‐like structure consisting of cavities (≈1 μm) separated from each other by a polymer layer full of holes (≈10 nm). The macroscopic gel is characterized by several techniques, e.g. determination of the Mc‐value by NMR‐relaxation measurements.  相似文献

Hydroxy‐terminated telechelic poly(vinyl ether)s with pendant oxyethylene chains were synthesized by the reaction of the CH3CH(OCOCH3)? O[CH2]4O? CH(OCOCH3)CH3/Et1.5AlCl1.5/THF‐based bifunctional living cationic polymers of 2‐methoxyethyl vinyl ether (MOVE), 2‐ethoxyethyl vinyl ether (EOVE), and 2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether (MOEOVE) with water and the subsequent reduction of the aldehyde polymer terminals with NaBH4. The obtained poly(vinyl ether) polyols were reacted with an equimolar amount of toluene diisocyanates [a mixture of 2,4‐ (80%) and 2,6‐ (20%) isomers] to give water‐soluble polyurethanes. The aqueous solutions of these polyurethanes caused thermally induced precipitation at a particular temperature depending on the sort of the thermosensitive poly(vinyl ether) segments containing oxyethylene side chains. These polyurethanes also function as polymeric surfactants, lowered the surface tension of their aqueous solutions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We synthesized an AB2‐type monomer, 4‐{4‐[di(4‐aminophenyl)methyl]phenoxy}phthalic acid, which contained one phthalic acid group and two aminophenyl functionalities. The direct self‐polycondensation of the AB2‐type monomer in the presence of triphenylphosphite as an activator afforded a hyperbranched poly(ether imide) with a large number of terminal amino groups. This polymer was characterized with 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy. The degree of branching of the hyperbranched poly(ether imide) was approximately 56%, as determined by a combination of model compound studies and an analysis of 1H NMR spectroscopy integration data. The terminal amino groups underwent functionalization readily. The solubility and thermal properties of the resulting polymers depended on the nature of the chain end groups. In addition, the hyperbranched poly(ether imide) was grafted with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS). Transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that the grafted POSS molecules aggregated to form a nanocomposite material. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel cyclic ether monomer 3‐{2‐[2‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy]ethoxy‐methyl}‐3′‐methyloxetane (HEMO) was prepared from the reaction of 3‐hydroxymethyl‐3′‐methyloxetane tosylate with triethylene glycol. The corresponding hyperbranched polyether (PHEMO) was synthesized using BF3·Et2O as initiator through cationic ring‐opening polymerization. The evidence from 1H and 13C NMR analyses revealed that the hyperbranched structure is constructed by the competition between two chain propagation mechanisms, i.e. active chain end and activated monomer mechanism. The terminal structure of PHEMO with a cyclic fragment was definitely detected by MALDI‐TOF measurement. A DSC test implied that the resulting polyether has excellent segment motion performance potentially beneficial for the ion transport of polymer electrolytes. Moreover, a TGA assay showed that this hyperbranched polymer possesses high thermostability as compared to its liquid counterpart. The ion conductivity was measured to reach 5.6 × 10?5 S/cm at room temperature and 6.3 × 10?4 S/cm at 80 °C after doped with LiTFSI at a ratio of Li:O = 0.05, presenting the promise to meet the practical requirement of lithium ion batteries for polymer electrolytes. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(2‐methoxyethyl vinyl ether)s with narrow molecular weight distributions and with perfectly defined end groups of varying hydrophobicities was successfully synthesized by base‐assisting living cationic polymerization. The end group was shown to greatly affect the temperature‐induced phase separation behavior of aqueous solutions (lower critical solution temperature‐type phase separation) or organic solutions (upper critical solution temperature‐type phase separation) of the polymers. The cloud points were also influenced largely by the molecular weight and concentration of the polymer. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Thermosensitive homopolymers and copolymers with hydroxy groups were synthesized via the living cationic polymerization of Si‐containing vinyl ethers. The cationic homopolymerization and copolymerization of five vinyl ethers with silyloxy groups, each with a different spacer length, were examined with a cationogen/Et1.5AlCl1.5 initiating system in the presence of an added base. When an appropriate base was added, the living cationic polymerization of Si‐containing monomers became feasible, giving polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions and various block copolymers. Subsequent desilylation gave well‐defined polyalcohols, in both water‐soluble and water‐insoluble forms. One of these polyalcohols, poly(4‐hydroxybutyl vinyl ether), underwent lower‐critical‐solution‐temperature‐type thermally induced phase separation in water at a critical temperature (TPS) of 42 °C. This phase separation was quite sensitive and reversible on heating and cooling. The phase separation also occurred sensitively with random copolymers of thermosensitive and hydrophilic or hydrophobic units, the TPS values of which in water could be controlled by the monomer feed ratio. The thermal responsiveness of this polyalcohol unit made it possible to prepare novel thermosensitive block and random copolymers consisting solely of alcohol units. One example prepared in this study was a 20 wt % aqueous solution of a diblock copolymer consisting of thermosensitive poly(4‐hydroxybutyl vinyl ether) and water‐soluble poly(2‐hydroxyethyl vinyl ether) segments, which transformed into a physical gel above 42 °C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers containing poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate] (PPEGMEA) backbone and poly[poly(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether methacrylate] (PPEGEEMA) side chains were synthesized by the combination of single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was first prepared by SET‐LRP of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate macromonomer using CuBr/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system. The obtained comb copolymer was treated with lithium diisopropylamide and 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide to give PPEGMEA‐Br macroinitiator. Finally, PPEGMEA‐g‐PPEGEEMA graft copolymers were synthesized by ATRP of poly(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether methacrylate macromonomer using PPEGMEA‐Br macroinitiator via the grafting‐from route. The molecular weights of both the backbone and the side chains were controllable and the molecular weight distributions kept narrow (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.20). The radical co‐ and terpolymerization of 4‐[(α,β,β‐trifluorovinyl)oxy]bromo benzene (TFVOBB) with 1,1‐difluoroethylene (or vinylidene fluoride, VDF, or VF2), hexafluoropropene (HFP), perfluoromethyl vinyl ether (PMVE), and chlorotrifluroroethylene (CTFE) is presented. Although TFVOBB could be thermocyclodimerized, it could not homopolymerize under radical initiation. TFVOBB could be copolymerized in solution under a radical initiator with VDF or CTFE comonomers, while its copolymerization with HFP or PMVE were unsuccessful. The terpolymerization of TFVOBB with VDF and HFP, or VDF and PMVE, or VDF and CTFE also led to original fluorinated terpolymers bearing bromoaromatic side‐groups. The conditions of co‐ and terpolymerization were optimized in terms of the nature of the radical initiators, and of the nature of solvents (fluorinated or nonhalogenated). Various monomer concentrations in the co‐ and terpolymers were assessed by 19F and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The thermal and physico chemical properties were also studied. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of copoly(aryl ether sulfone)s containing double‐decker‐shaped silsesquioxane (DDSQ) in the main chain was prepared. Toward this end, a novel diphenol polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane macromer was synthesized by hydrosilylation between 3,13‐dihydro octaphenyl double‐decker silsesquioxane (denoted dihydro DDSQ) and eugenol. The poly(aryl ether sulfone)s were synthesized from diphenol DDSQ, bisphenol A (BPA), and 4‐fluorophenyl sulfone using a one‐step high‐temperature solution method. By adjusting the ratio of diphenol DDSQ to BPA, copolymers with variable DDSQ content in the main chains were obtained. With increased DDSQ content in the main chain, the glass transition temperature decreased based on differential scanning calorimetry, and anti‐degradation was enhanced based on thermogravimetric analysis. Moreover, the dielectric constant κ of pure polymer (3.19 at 1 MHz) initially increased to 4.04 (DDSQ molar ratio = 10%), and then decreased to 2.68 at 1 MHz (DDSQ molar ratio = 100%). Crystallization behavior, solubility, and surface hydrophobicity were also investigated. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 780–788  相似文献

The degradative effects of γ-radiation on diethyl ether solutions of poly(alkyl vinyl ethers) under a variety of conditions were studied by polymer molecular weight measurements. Poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE), poly(ethyl vinyl ether) (PEVE), poly(isopropyl vinyl ether) (PIPVE), and poly(isobutyl vinyl ether) (PIBVE) exhibited similar degradative behavior, with G(SC) values between 0.3 and 0.9 scissions/100 eV at 0°C. Chemically polymerized and radiation-polymerized PEVE samples gave comparable results. Chain degradation was much more pronounced for samples of poly(tert-butyl vinyl ether) (PTBVE) which yielded a G(SC) value of 3.6 at 0°C. Degradation experiments conducted on PEVE in air resulted in significantly higher rates of scission: G(SC) = 5.6 scissions/100 eV at 0°C. Chain scission was not measurably influenced by changing the solvent from diethyl ether to di-isopropyl ether. Increased polymer concentration was found to reduce the rate of polymer degradation.  相似文献

The precise synthesis and variation in the thermoresponsive property based on the supramolecular assembly of a novel urea end‐functionalized poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) were studied. A series of PNIPAMs with different diphenylurea groups at the chain end (X? Ph? NH? CO? NH? Ph? trz? PNIPAM: X = H, OCH3, CH3, NO2, Cl, and CF3) were synthesized by using a combination of the atom transfer radical polymerization and the copper(I)‐catalyzed azide‐alkyne cycloaddition. The cloud point of the obtained polymers depended on the hydrogen‐bonding ability of the introduced urea group. The 1H NMR measurement suggested that the obtained PNIPAM assembled in water via the intermolecular hydrogen bonding by the terminal urea group. From the dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy measurements, the aggregated nanoparticles of the resulting polymer were directly observed in water at a temperature below its cloud point. The hydrogen‐bonding property of the chain end urea group was concluded to be involved in the aggregation of the PNIPAM in water, leading to the variation in its cloud point. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
